MOVED: MSI Neo2 FX, AMD 939 RAM question

This topic has been moved to Retired motherboards.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=154853.0

Why is it fine?,
Yes, your maths are OK. But:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8N-Neo2-FX.html#?div=Detail
Look at the table of the details (it's the same as in my manual).
According to that table, my RAM configuration should not be 400Mhz, but 333Mhz.
And something else:
The DIMMS are 2 Kingston and 2 Corsair. All modules have the same click speeds and are double sided. So, should I enter them as:
Kingston (Green), Corsair (purple), Kingston (Green), Corsair (Purple), or as:
Kingston (Green), Kingston (Purple), Corsair(Green), Corsair (Purple)

  • MSI Neo2 FX, AMD 939 RAM question

    Hi to all,
I have an old Athlon 64 on the MSI Neo2 FX with the nvidia chipset.
According to the MB manual, I could install 4 DIMM (Double sided) and have a DDR333, Dual Channel.
But, in my case, I have 4 DIMMS (Double sided), which BIOS POST reports that runs at 200Mhz, not 333, in dual channel 128bit mode.
BIOS options, seems not to change and I would not like to change the FSB from 200 to 333.
    Any ideas?

  • MSI Neo2 865PE and SCSI Controller Question

    Hi All,
Im new here so be easy on me
Anyways im currently building a new system P4 System based on the new 800FSB, i have all the parts ready, ie. CPU, DDR400 RAM, Case, Adaptec SCSI Controller, HDD etc etc, but believe it or not i havent purchased a motherboard yet. The reason being i want to get clarification that my setup will actually work with the motherboard before i go out and buy it. WHAT SETUP you ask, please read on
Now the reason im posting here is because from what i can see on the internet this is a really top notch board (best performer in the recent THG test) so naturally its one of the boards im considering.
Now to the my QUESTION: I want to use my SCSI drive connected to the Adaptec as the OS drive and boot from it. However my main concern is that the Neo2 865PE wont let me boot of the SCSI Hard Disk attached to the Adaptec SCSI 21960 controller. Ive been told that certain motherboards eg. ASUS wont detect a SCSI controller on boot up because it will only detect the onboard RAID controller as the SCSI controller, therefore not letting you use the SCSI disk at the boot device.
Can anyone ease my mind and tell me the MSI 865 Neo2 will let me do what i intend??? ie. Boot of SCSI disk.
    Any response/comments is appreciated
    Cheers

    Hi Domino,
Thanyou for testing the setup out for me.....
When you tested it did you have your onboard Intel S-ATA RAID controller enabled? because i believe this is where the problem will eventuate, when you enable the m/b's ONBOARD RAID controllers.
    Cheers

*** I don't want to open another topic so I'll post here  ***
Can anyone please recommend a 2x1GB kit compatible with MS-7220 and runs in at least DDR-500 mode?
I'm about to complete my rig and I don't know what RAM to buy.
    My options are:
*** GSkill F1-4000BIU2-2GBHV PC4000 3-3-2-8 (Dual Channel) 2048MB kit (2x1024MB) dual channel pack *** NOT in my country
    *** GSkill F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ PC4000(DDR500) 3-4-4-8 (Dual channel) Samsung / 2048MB kit (2x1024MB) dual channel pack
    *** Corsair TWINX2048-4000PT 2048 MB DDR / 500 MHz / 3-4-4-8
    *** Corsair TWINX2048-4400PRO 2048 MB DDR / 550 MHz / 3-4-4-8
I heard that there are some problems with the BIOS on MS-7220. Will I be able to run the memory at DDR-500? On what BIOS version?
    Thanks!

  • Msi 790GX-G65 and "EB" Ram question....

    Hiya All,
Q: could it be that "OCZ DDR3 ram p3 1600 EB 2GK" won't work with a MSI 790GX-G65 mobo because of the "EB" (enhancend Bandwidth) ? ? ?
can't find anything on EB in the manual or on the net concerning the MSI 790GX-G65 mobo
System freezes randomly, sometimes during start up sometimes after an hour.
all temps are okay and nothing is OC-ed.
    got ati 4870 gfx card.
    550 W power suply.
    cpu: AMD phenom2 x3 720 black edition
thanks to any one willing to look into this matter
    Bassman404
p.s. asking this for a friend so hard to give more info than this atm

    thanks for your quick reply
The PSU is a HKC USP5550
and forgot to mention that the ram is running on 1333 MHz not 1600MHz.(not trying to run it higher than 1333 MHz atm)
i'm wondering if the "enhancend bandwidth" could be the cause of the system freezing?
or in other words do i have the wrong RAM?
    and thanks allready

"Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.  After that load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS."
    1. after that INTEL EIST is Enabled and now default cpu voltages 1.22v ,and i can set from 1.24 to 2.0125v..and  there is no AUTO mode...(auto mode only in memory voltage and VTT voltage)
    2. and after intel eist is enabled i can set cpu clock ratio this option is disabled.....
    3. and i still cannot set cpu voltage to 1.14 1.15 1.16 1.17 1.18 1.19 1.20
4 when intel eist is disabled default cpu voltages is 1.500v but all utilities like CPUZ show 1.135 cpu voltages its ok , but when EIST is enabled default voltages are 1.22v and all utilities show that tempreture is 1.200v...its not ok...
or if i dont want to overclock my cpu i must set eist disabled ? and if i want to overclock cpu i must set eist enabled...and after that set cpu voltages to 1.2v or more...yes or no? ;/ and why if eist enabled clock ratio option is disabled? only way its manually set fsb clock,or its should be like that?

VDroop set to 100% is all you are going to get. 1.344v's should get you about 44-46X on the cores on 'Auto'. The voltage goes down from there with the lower VDroop settings. With CPU V. set to 'Auto', you get power saving, soon as the CPU V. is taken out of 'Auto', you lose it. No, the CPU speed may lower, but the voltage going to it will not.
VDroop is not a true offset feature like can be found on other brands of boards. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162779.0
Most folks around the industry recognize 1.350v's as the recommended limit for socket 2011 CPU's, so 1.344v's is fairly close to that anyway.
So when i set the voltage and the cpu multiplier i loose power saving features right?
    Thanks for the reply

  • MSI H67MA-E35-B3 & some ram questions

    Hi, I'm still here!
I recently bought a MSI H67MA-E35-B3 to build a fanless miniPC for testing hardware (fans, ssd, sound card),
but I have some doubts about ram:
I know thant this mobo support two unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 1066/1333 DRAM, 16GB Max..
    well, can I use a CORSAIR Vengeance WhitePC3-12800 (1600MHz) — 1.35V 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9W)?
that is; can  the card bring down (during the star-up bios) the ram fron 1600Mhz to 1333Mhz which is the maximum rate allowable by MSI?
ddr3 must be unbufferd (not registered), but can they be ECC...is this correct?

Quote from: Bernhard on 03-September-11, 21:33:06
My suggestion is that you stick to standard 1,5V modules.
You can also ask MSI technical if the 1,35V modules are at all supported by the BIOS. >>How to contact MSI.<<
Check if your BIOS DRAM voltage range even allows setting a voltage of 1,35V.
Normally if the RAM SPD profiles are standard, the BIOS will default to 1333.
    MSI H67MA-E35-B3 can support 1.35vram!!!
I try it with ddr3 g.skill 1333 eco 1.35vram  (from my other 775 system with MSI P45 Diamond  ), and they worked great!
    Quote from: HU16E on 04-September-11, 02:30:27
Try not to confuse 'standard' with 'rating'. The Corsairs you have are 'rated' 1600, but most likely are overclocked, in this case undervolted, (undertimed for 1600 speed) 1333 chips. I checked the Corsair Website, & the RAM you have purchased does have SPD programming to default to DDR3 1333, 9 9 9 24. The difference is they have a 1.35v's. Again, Sandy Bridge is designed for DRAM V. 1.50v's + or - 0.075v's. That is why I recommended the other Corsair kit. I am pretty sure the RAM you currently have will properly default to the 1333 & 9 9 9 24, but the 1.35v's setting may cause a problem. As Bernhard has mentioned, the system may not be able to lower the DRAM V. to 1.35v's, I have never tried it to find out. The other scenario is the DRAM V. will default to 1.50v's at startup & work fine. Then, manual reduction of the DRAM V. could be attempted.
I've not bought the corsair ram ..
If the 1600 ddr3 worked under at 1333 could be that they would not work at 1.35volt, but at 1.5volt standard value

  • MSI-KM2M Combo-L (6738) Ram Question

Can this motherboard support pc2700 ram.  Everywhere I go I see that people use PC2100 even when trying to buy some that's what they show will work on this motherboard.  In the booklet though it says it can support pc2700, but I have been having problems with it.  I have two 512MB Sticks PC2700 333, they each work fine by themselves and each of the two ddr slots are good.  I am running windows xp and everytime I turn on the comp with both in, it will start up and then before it goes to the desktop it will restart.  Sometimes it says I am missing a config file in windows32.  I know that you have to update your bios for winx9 and winME, but I am using xp and it should be able to support both of them.  I do not know if this board has problems with pc2700.  Any help would be apprieciated.

I find the same problem with 2 512MB DDR DIMMS.   Seems to hang in NT and blue screen.  Don't know what that guy is talking about voltage settings in bios when my bios has no such settings to adjust DDR voltage.
Very odd problem.  If I put SDRAM in the motherboard it works fine.  But not 2 512MD ddrs?  Go figure.  Anyone know the answer to this?  Is this a bios bug?

  • MSI 975x Powerup edition and ram question

I am thinking on upgrading my ram on the board mentioned above I have 2GB or corsair which works fine anyone here know if I add another 2GB does it need to be corsair or could I use something like kingston or kingmax or whatever? Or does it need to be the exact same corsair ram. In the past this wasn't an issue but this board is extremely fussy.
I am wondering if it would affect dual channel operation. The corsair ram is about 100 dollars more for 2GB not a big deal I just don't feel like driving to another city to get it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Take care,
    Bob

you should get all 4 sticks the SAME model name. If you get different sets of pairs, it's more likely they will run into issue. However, in most case, they still can run just good enough. But if you're going into overclocking, you will hit the bottleneck easier compared to 4 same sticks.

  • MSI Neo2 Plat wont work!

Hey guys, recently bought all new parts for a computer:
MSI Neo2 Platinum Socket 939 Mobo
    AMD 3500+ 939 not proccess .013 micron i think?
    WD 160GB 8mb SATA HD
    Leadtek Gforce 6800GT 256mb AGP8x
    Corsair XMS Extreme 1gb (512 x 2)
ok so I put all the things together and try to start the computer. At the first screen where it shows the VGA bios info its all in symbols and in different colors and I cant read anything and when it goes to the MSI Neo2 Platinum Edition Screen I cant see it well either. It then goes onto Verifying DMI Pool Data... and hangs there. All 4 leds are on, for the D bracket thing. Everything is in symbols and I cannot read anything nor enter bios. HELP PLZ!
PS. Turns out I can enter bios but there are black square spots all over the place preventing me from actively reading the bios settings and such.

Sounds like a faulty video card to me.
Try using a spare video card for testing.
But don't test with one that is too old. I believe this mobo only suports video cards that use the 1.5V standard. Usually any AGP 4X or better will do.

The Venice core will be supported by the K8T neo2 shortly, I'm convinced about that, since Asus (I'm sorry to mention them) are supporting it already, with the same bios.
Even ECS published Venice-ready BIOS updates...
