MOVED: MSI P6N Diamond OC Problems

My temps are very good, actually, with a zalman 9700 led and arctic silver grease.  26 C idle and ~35 C at load with stock 2.4 ghz speed.
I'm pretty sure the mobo is the source of the problem.  It doesn't seem like to like setting my corsair pc8500 at its rated 1066mhz either.

I am having a really hard time overclocking on this board past 1150 fsb 9x on a Q6600 processor.
I'm pretty sure the speedstep is giving me a problem, but the C1E option is nowhere to be found in the bios (1.0).  CPUZ constantly shows the processor downstepping to 1.6ghz on a 8x multiplier.  The C1E option is clearly labeled in the manual but it definitely not in the actual bios.  What's up with this?
    Bios 1.1 was even worse.

  • MSI P6N Diamond Driver Probl

I recently was one of the brave few to order a MSI P6N Diamond motherboard. This board is only few months old if that, and of course all the drivers and bios for this board are buggy. One thing I should note about this board is if you disable the IDE controller, your cpu voltage will shoot up to .7 volts( stock is .3) and if your lucky , fry your brand new E6600 chip. (NOT COOL)?Besides that fun I will get to the point. I could of cared less about the onboard X-FI , but with PCI slots going by by and no one is making any PCIexpress sound cards (that I am aware of). I sorta figured well shoot, now I am stuck with this sound card.
At first, I was , wait its a creative labs sound blaster X-FI, those are those new ones that seem really cool (NOT). I wont lie, in games it sounds million times better then my old Audigy did, no more pops or cracks (5 year old card) the EAX effects sound more life like, 5. channels works cleaner. I was like "way-a-go creative!"? Then the problems started.
I loaded up my favorite program Fruityloo
    ps.
After looking over the sound properties , I notice there was no ASIO cards to be found? Hmm.... Could? naa, no ASIO on a creative labs sound card? At first I thought I must of time warp back to the Li've! days, shoot at least I could use KX drivers make that baby work great!? This time I was left in the dark ?No problem, I will just goto creative.com and download the new drivers, forget those MSI drivers came with the board, I would rather use the manufactures drivers instead anyhow (creative). WRONG!! "setup could not find any supported devices in your system"?... Figures ?So i tryed to boot leg the drivers and force them to work , naa that wont work. So I am guessing Creative WILL NOT support this sound card because they didnt install it on to the motherboard, MSI did, they are the ones who do the driver support, go bug them! (as i would figure). MSI says "well we use there drivers off there site and make them work with our boards, they are up-to-date!" I dont know , this sucks, is there a way i can rip off the X-fi chip on my motherboard and get a refund, heck shoot me over a audigy 2 at least those work 'ok'....
?Besides that ASIO problem, I notice FEAR Combat will BSOD and sometimes say a file called "t3filt.sys" was involved, funny that file comes up as a "Sensaura" file? I have no clue what thats all about, I know this if I disable the onboard sound card from the BIOS, the system runs 00% stable, I enable it, game will randomly crash....
I do know what a computer is and how to get drivers working, but I would almost bet my problem is the driver, and not the hardware (I hope). Sean-

so how bad is it's does this mean iam SOL or what, i just got done reading one of those other threads on here about the X-FI extreme audio scam, I guess iam right up in there with the rest guys. I cant jerry rig the drivers at all, is there any third party drivers that will work? What can one do?If it comes down to it I will litterly desolider the x-fi chip off the board, no sence in having it on there if iam not going to use it?Probley snap it in half when iam done and mail it back to creative. • P6N Diamond (space problem w/X-Fi cooler height)

Hi guys, I'm using an outdated mobo (MSI P6N Diamond). Since I'm having problems with the CPU temperature, I decided to replace the cooler coming by default with the processor, so I bought a Thermaltake Blue Orb II.
The problem is the new cooler wont fit on the processor, unless I remove the X-Fi cooler (so this thread is essencially a coolers issue ) because the space available for this huge cooler is not enough because the X-Fi cooler height.
So I wonder... what would be the consequences of removing the X-Fi cooler, if I don't use this sound card. I've disabled it in the BIOS, and I'm using an old PCI sound card.
    Let me know your opinions...
PD: Do you know why this mobo was left behind so fast by MSI.

Roger that, gurpz thanks for that clarification plus your suggestion about the Zalman cooler. I'm going right now to check it in the web.
Do you have 1 of those? I'm asking this cause I'd like to be extra sure this time it will fit the available space, and avoid falling twice in the same mistake.

  • MSI P6N Diamond and very slow BIOS menus

I'm having problems with my new setup. My setup is as follows:
MSI P6N Diamond with 1.1 bios update
    2 x OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2P800R22GK
XION Supernova XON 600W Power Supply
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (not overclocked yet, having problems whenever I change settings)
EVGA  GeForce 8800GTS 640MB Video Card
I'm running Vista 32bit fine as far as I can tell, everything is pretty snappy and other programs are running fine, but the machine is very slow to post and running the bios menus is a painful process as it takes about 2-4 seconds to switch selections. I tried running the board with 1 stick of ram in slot 1, with slots 1 & 3 and all 4 and it made no difference. I had a USB card reader plugged in and then removing it seemed to make a difference for a while, the BIOS menus ran as I expected, very snappy. Also anytime I switch the CPU clock from automatic to manual the computer won't post and i have to reset the bios
Anyone have a clue what could be causing this slowness and my inability to overclock the cpu?

I will be getting the Q6600 in 1 week, :D.  The new G0 stepping as well :D. I'm excited.
Are you using XP or Vista? I have had no distortion or pops with my sound.  Although, from what I hear the drivers for XP or much more polished than those for Vista.  This is a Creative issue, and not an MSI issue.  Lots of people are having problems with Vista with the standalone Creative cards as well.
I overclocked my E6700 to about 3.5Ghz, and hit a temp wall based on my ambient temps.  I probably could have gone higher if it was cooler in the room that houses the computer.  Although, the temps have dropped dramatically after the AS5 has cured, probably could get it pushed up a bit higher.  Hopefully I don't have problems with it when the Q6600 comes in.
If you got the older B3 stepping version, it will run a bit hotter and will be much harder to OC to higher speeds because of this.  I've found the P6N Diamond to be very OC friendly and like all the options it gives.  The only thing I don't like is the adjustment of the Vcore lists the # above stock, instead of the absolute #. Sometimes the Vcore it auto assigns isn't 100% correct I've heard so it'd be nice to know what that auto value is.  The Vcore reading you can read in the monitor section fluctuates a hair in each direction of 1.3 for me when at stock, so I assume it was 1.3 stock.

  • MSI P6N Diamond - Flashing the BIOS

    hi all,
I am using a MSI P6N Diamond motherboard. I have gone several years without a problem.
However, recently, I decided to upgrade from 4GB of RAM to 8GB of RAM. I confirmed with Crucial that the memory I was purchasing was guaranteed to be compatible with the existing RAM.
To that end, I flashed the BIOS to the latest version using the MSI Utility program and followed the instructions. The operation was a success.
However, after doing this I noticed that occasionally I will get a "blue screen" when Windows is about to boot. At first I thought it might be a faulty RAM module, so I removed all memory sticks except one which I have been using for years. I know that RAM module is not faulty but I ran memtest86+ to be sure and it did not report any problems. But the blue screen problem still occurs.
The blue screen doesn't occur every time, but it is rather easy to reproduce. I will likely see it at least once on every 4-5 reboots. I can't read anything because it flies by too fast.
Has anyone ever heard of such a thing when updating the BIOS on a P6N motherboard? How can I get additional information on the blue screen?

Can you provide a screenshot of your CPU-Z memory and SPD tabs.
Note: I currently have all 8GB of RAM installed.

At this stage I would recommend you flash back to the BIOS that you were running previously with success.
I would like to save this as a last resort if possible. I know that this is a risky procedure. Do I need v1.3 in order to support 8GB of RAM?
Quote from: Bernhard on 23-September-11, 11:11:46
What are the error codes of your BSODs. Bottom tight of your task bar is a little flag, left click on it and open the Action Centre. At the top of the dialog you will see Security and Maintenance. Expand the Maintenance option. Select an option called "View reliability history". Now you can click on all the red crossed items in the date/timeline and then then View the technical detail, which should include the BSOD codes wherever there are any.
I'm not sure if Vista Home Premium is different, but I don't see a flag in bottom right of the task bar. However, if I right click My Computer->Manage there is a Reliability and Performance->Reliability Monitor. I believe this is equivalent to what you are referring to, as it shows the red crossed items and shows application/hardware failures, etc. Here is a screenshot of that:
    http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/2452/reliability.jpg
The problem is that it doesn't show any of the red crossed items for this issue. I have seen at least 4 or 5 of them on 9/22 but nothing is listed on that date. When this blue screen occurs, it seems to occur as soon as the "Microsoft Windows" screen appears while booting. It will show the black Microsoft Windows loading screen and the loading bar and blue screen almost immediately. Is it possible that the problem occurs too soon for it to appear here?
EDIT: I should also note that I have reformatted and reinstalled Windows but the problem persists.
Another odd issue just occurred to me but I'm not sure if it's related. After reinstalling Windows, I would get a "New Hardware found" popup box for the onboard Creative sound. I installed the Creative sound driver, but I would still get the "New Hardware found" box for the onboard Creative sound after rebooting. It looks like that problem has gone away, though.

  • Any News (MSI) P6N Diamond (680i) SLI Motherboard

Any one know about the release of  (MSI) P6N Diamond (680i) SLI Motherboard

    Quote
honestly, if it's not for SLI, I think I'll wait for ATI, ops, AMD RD600 chipset mobo instead.
I complete agree with that.  Just getting bored with the Opteron system. I have an insider I am getting a e6600 from for 1/2 price this week, so I was looking at boards.  Think I want to try the 680i over the 975, and while the RD600 looks like it will be a winner it's still a ways out.
MSI had stated end of December for the P6N and that time is upon us.
Honestly after the last purchase I swore I would never buy another MSI, but I kind of crave pain that way, after about a year of mods on this current board, and emails with the MSI BIOS crew I think the K8N SLI was the 2nd best Nforce 4 board made out there.  Plus it gives me another forum area to read here beside the Nvidia, and overclocking sections.

  • Is MSI P6N Diamond supports EPP(Memory)

I got this  CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-8500C5D 1066MHz  and it has EPP (Sli ready ram). On CPUid SPD, i see JEDEC1(266), JEDEC2(400) and EPP(533).
On default setting for the bios it registered as 800Mhz only using JEDEC2 5-5-5-18 (1.8v).
The memory specification says 5-5-5-15 (2.1v)
Is the board MSI P6N Diamond supports EPP?
I googled it and it s clearly says that Nvidia nForce SLI Boards/Corsair supports EPP and highly recommended for stability.
Anyways i manually set the memory to its specification.

i set it to EPP settings manualy 5-5-5-15-22-2t 2.1 v..
boards with true EPP settings http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/FoxconnC51XEM2AA/7.html
"One interesting note about EPP is that when using above-800 MHz EPP memory with the EPP option enabled in the BIOS, the BIOS will automatically adjust all the necessary bus clocks, multipliers, and voltages to yield memory clock speeds as close to the maximum rated clocks of the DIMM as possible"
I think the P6N diamond doesnt have the feature using  EPP.
Even if i use auto timings on the memory, it doesnt match all the timings for SPP/JEDEC (esp on my old ocz pc2-6400 800mhz rams)

I have just put together a new system and cannot get any sound out from the speakers. Tried several reinstall of windows and sound drivers but no joy. Any help would be appreciated.

open up the audio app for the x-fi located on the bottom right.  Go into settings and make sure you have the setting disabled that automatically recognizes that you have headphones plugged in.  And make sure the speaker settings are set to speakers and not headphones.  Worked for me when I couldn't get sound when I plugged it in on the back. Odd yess but worked for me.

  • P6N Diamond New Problem: Second HDD Randomly Starts/Stops Since recent Update

    Howdy All,
Continuing problems with the P5N Diamond.
    This one's new.
Previously I had the same problem as many others with the cold boot issue. Somehow, someway, it just stopped: cold boot or not, one day it just started booting fine....go figure.
However, I recently (about 3 weeks ago) did the MSI live update that included something or other pertaining to the E-SATA....support for it or something to that end. Although I don't use the E-SATA, I installed it thinking I might at some point and since installing it, I have discovered a new problem: my second drives (in RAID 0) just opens/closes randomly. It seems to mostly occur when operating demanding programs: gaming, watching a video, that sort of thing.
Everytime it does this, it takes me to desktop and asks me what program I want to use to open the program......which when I do, is nothing more than my second (D drive) HDDs in RAID 0. I then get the yellow pop up message in the bottom toolbar from Windows saying it's experienced a write failure problem. It hasn't done any damage that I can tell and I've lost nothing, but being taken to desktop perpetually is a major issue. This problem is driving me absolutely up the wall. No sooner than I start to do something and wham.....I'm at desktop being asked what program I want to use to open up the second HDDs. I've also tried just leaving it open but to no avail: it just randomly continues to open and close.
I have my O/S on the C drive and 2 more HDDs in RAID O for back up on ports 6 & 7. Since doing the MSI update that included the E-SATA whatever, this new problem almost prevents the computer from being usable: certainly nothing in gaming is possible along with anything that requires uninterruption.
    Here's my system:
    M/B: P6N Diamond
    CPU: E6850
    RAM: Corsair XMS PC-8500, 2 x 1 gig
    HDD: 1- WD 150 Raptor
    HDD: 2- WD 5000AAKS in Raid 0
    Vid Card: EVGA 8800GTX
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 750 Silencer
    ODD: Sony DRU 830A
    FDD: Sony Floppy
    Misc: Scythe fans x 5
    O/S: XP Pro w/ SP2
    Running BIOS 1.2
So, being fairly certain the MSI update created the problem, my question is, how do I undo the MSI's most recent update to remove it? When I go into Add/Remove Programs, nothing is listed there. I'm not sure this is the source of the problem but I do know I didn't have it beforehand.
I'd greatly appreciate any help with this....even any ideas. While I have some computer knowledge, I'm not as tech savvy as most here, but this problem is, apart from driving me up a wall, making the computer almost unusable. FYI, I haven't done a System Restore because I've installed several things since and don't want to lose them if I can isolate the problem, but I will if that's what you all recommend.
Again, sorry for what may be a noobish question, but I'm not sure where else to go. After dealing with MSI's tech support, I'd rather talk to a wall.
    Thanks greatly.
    Pepper1

    Mark,
Forgive me for asking, but I am a bit confused. Is your "cold boot issue" now solved? If so, do you think that the new drives are the key?

Quote from: MarkJohnson on 17-December-07, 14:21:23
    Sorry for late post.
After setting up the HW RAID (2500YS) for booting the system still cold boots.  strangely this time the reset (Ctrl+Alt+Del) doesn't seem to work.  I must of did it two dozen times and it would never clear.  I then just powered off after the other 2 drives on the nvidia SATA cleared and seen the HD LED light up and stay on for a few seconds(seems stuck on the 4723 checks of the drive) and then powered down and powered right back up with no cold boot issue.  It has worked this way every time for the last week or so and I tested it like 20 or so times(3-4 times a day).  These drives are listed as being compatible after the firmware update (and I did that already) so I guess it is either the MB BIOS needs updating or it's the way the nvidia chipset runs this setup is wacky.  This is assuming the 4723 HD compatibility list is correct.
here's a summary of the drives so far.
36GB Raptors (old revision) - can take forever to boot properly and corrupted my disk in 3 days of testing (scrambled my directory structure)
105GB Raptors - Just reset(Ctrl+Alt+Del) 1-4 times after the HD LED goes solid for a few seconds.  worked for two months no errors.
250GB Caviar RE(2500YS) - have to power off (power button) when HD LED goes solid.  so far no problems for a week.
80 GB SATA II Hitachi Deskstar (HDS728080PLA380 - May 2005) - same as 150 GB Raptors, just a reset or four, only did a days worth of testing with no errors.
well, I was hoping for those 2500YS to work properly.  Now it makes it really hard to track the problems with so many different errors and 3 different places it can go wrong 4723/nvidia/msi/HD Manufacturer.  wait, that's 4.  Oh boy!
Hopefully this gets resolved soon.  I've already had to move this MB to my secondary system, and for other reasons than this.  I didn't mind hitting the reset button to get this to run.  I get the feeling that MSI has abandoned this board on us.  with the new P7N being released it will be even harder to get anyone to mess with this thing.

  • MSI K9N DIAMOND boot problems

    Hi.
I have given the main PC sig below to my son. And I now have / building
    MSI K9N DIAMOND AM2 nvidia nForce 590 SLI 8channel audio DDR2 ATX
    Corsair 1GB DDR2-6400 128Mx64 non-ECC 240 DIMM unbuffered 5-5-5-12
    AMD 2x 5600 cpu
I have kept the PSU, wifi card.
(will update when up and running.)
When I put his harddrive (SATA) into his new PC it saw it straight away and booted into xp,without having to reinstall . Great.
I put my drive into the new AM2 board and I get three beeps (I read that's the USBs)
Then it either just hangs on a black screen or if i enable raid it tries then the BSOD  code 0x0000007E which i believe is just a standard error message.
The D-bracket has 4 green lights...
does anyone know why I cant just boot up my drive like i could with my sons, is it because i'm switching to AM2 from 939?
When I enter the raid setup (F10) it can see the drive but next to where it says bootable drive  which is normally a yes or a no it has N/A and I cannot change it.
I belive it is a raid/ driver problem I'm thinking its the AM2 upgrade.
I did not get any floppy raid drivers with my mo/bo.
If I reinstalled Xp would I need to install raid drivers during setup? (F6)
    I have clears cmos
    Many thanks for any help.

    hello
I plugged my sons drive into my K9N Diamond and it is saying the same thing in the raid setup   (F10) .....When you have the option to set as the bootable drive
Quote "set as boot drive N/A"
It can see the drive OK, I can delete array and rebuild it
Is there something in the bios that I need to tick or untick/ enable for it to boot from the drive?
    any help would be great.

  • MSI P6N SLI sound problem under windows 7

    Hi all!
I have an MSI P6N SLI mainboard and I have installed win7 ultimate x64 to get a look on that OS. Everything works fine expect one thing: I have no sound. I tried to install manually the realtek sound driver but no changes. When I check the Volume Control Options then neither the Speakers nor the Realtek Digital Output checked (but the speaker is plugged in).
However I have sound under Linux.
Could someone help me? (and sorry if I have missed the topic which resolves this problem if there is any)

    Hi everyone,
hope it's ok to refresh this thread - I did not want to open up a new one, because this one matches my problem perfectly - but my speakers are plugged-in the right way
I'm running Win7 64 on the MSI P6N SLI (not v2 no Platinum) and am unable to install the sounddriver (well not correct - I did install the driver). The upgrade advisor said all green (under Win XP 32) and the MSI-Driver-Page propagates Win7 32/64 is supported for the SoundCard of my Board.
The driver installs just fine, but the device won't come out of "I have a problem"-state - always telling me "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" (I event tried installing the driver manually with pointing the win-hardware-setup-routine to the driver-directory) - still no use - I removed and rebootet serveral times...
Hope anybody has a solution for this problem (I'm taking the posts above as a "this has to work"-basis so i'm not ready to give up and go out there and buy a new soundcard )
Thanks in advance for any hint.

I have problem with ram frequency.
I have MSI P6N SLI PLATINIUM and OCZ 2x2GB 800MHz CL5  but in bios I see that my ram runs in 667 MHz. Because I have 800MHz ram, so it shouldn't be default 800MHz and not 667MHz? What I have to do to show bios that I have 800MHz ram?
