MOVED: MSI vr330x vga problem

Hi again,
Have you tried updating to Win XP Service Pack 1 yet?
Else, you may want to try this weird method as some gave a shot and the problem's solved, but not to everyone...
Boot up using the the cards that work, next, shutdown com(do not un-install drivers), put in the Leadtek card, boot up and see if there's the original 16bit colors with 800 by 600 res screen while starting up windows, if it does, try installing the drivers for WinXP/2000 by manually selecting the location as XP has a problem in detecting XP's VGA drivers, restart and see if problem persists.
All the Best... :D!!!

  • MSI 865PE VGA problem wrong color

I have just purchased a new motherboard, the MSI 865PE Neo2-FIS2R. Now all the colours on the screen are wrong. Example: In a window in Windows XP, the white has turned black and the text is still black. All other colours are wired. I have updated the BIOS and drives for the motherboard and the VGA card and nothing seems to help. I have then tried to change the VGA card to my old Geforce 2 and it worked perfect. I used to have the Winfast card working with a Soltek SL-75FRN-L motherboard and it worked perfect. What can the problem be and how do I solve it,
    does any one know??

    RAID drivers on a floppy
I think the problem here is not so much the "right" procedure.  The question is, if he has been using the proper drivers for the onboard RAID Controller in the first place.
The product page for this board:
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=133&prod_no=678
... mentions a Promise 20378 RAID controller.  However, the only RAID Drivers offered in the Driver Download Section are for an Adaptec RAID Controller (which will of course not work with a Promise Chipset).

That bios didn't fix the multiplier issue. It's already flashed...
I was thinking that you have missing MP.
"I haven't tested every possible fsb setting but I don't want to, I just want to run my cpu at the 8x multiplier "
What's the problem to do that?

You don't need to upgrade your VGA card, the maximum resolution is determined by the display device (monitor) connected to it.

Still does not work. Any ideas from users who have faced similar problems are welcome.
Meanwhile in a private message I have been accused of spamming all P45 threads. This is atrocious! Please guys, I am not here on behalf of MSI's business rivals to create a ruckus. I have spent my hard earned money on the board and am now facing problems. I hoped to gain sympathetic answers from fellow users, instead of biased accusations. Let me mention here that I have seen seven P45 problem threads on page no. 1 alone of this forum. I responded only to two of them, because my problems were similar.
So if you have any ideas to resolve my difficulty, please tell me about them. This is going to be my last MSI purchase. But that should deter fellow users from helping me out. You are not working for MSI after all!

What system are you trying to install and what drivers are you using?
VR330 only supports Windows XP and Vista 32 bits.
If the problem starts after you reflow the video chip of your graphics, then there may be some problem with the graphics.
Make sure you're using the supported OS and the driver version, if the problem still remains, then I'd suggested you send the unit for a check at the service center.

well the system had been working for 1 year. This trouble occurred 2 days ago, when I've tried to increase memory speed
Well, isn't that how it always happens, when stuff breaks? It works for a year and then suddenly, it doesn't?
    Quote
when I've tried to increase memory speed
As I said: possibly northbridge (memory controller/PCI-E interface) related.

If I remove all memory sticks I hear 3 bips in a row but nothing else (the pc is stuck at the black screen).
That still sounds normal.  The system fails to initialize the memory (since there is no module installed) and halts during the first step of memory initialization.  The same thing would happen on any other system.
Your problem starts once you insert RAM.  Since you don't get any beeps, the system seems to start memory initialization, but gets stuck in the process, or during one of the checkpoints after that.
I don't think there is a solution to this.  Something broke.

So, with the 9600XT card installed, when you switch on your PC, you see the BIOS POST screen/logo, then the Windows loading screen, then your screen goes black?
Yes! The first time I installed the 9600XT Windows loaded normally. After I restarted it goes like you said - screen goes black after Windows loading screen, but hard disk keeps working like it continued loading Windows.

Can you boot into Windows Safe Mode? Press F8 (or tap a few times) before the Windows loading screen appears, to show the Windows startup menu.
If you can boot into Safe Mode, uninstall the Via Unichrome display drivers, and then restart. Can Windows start up normally then?
If not, boot again into Safe Mode, and install the ATI display drivers. Then restart. Does it work then?
I tried ALL that three weeks ago. It didn't help. Yea also I reinstalled OS a week ago and when it should have entered Windows for the first time after instalation it did the same - put monitor into hibernation mode. Then I came here. So the next thing I'm gonna do is clearing CMOS like NovJoe suggested me. But somehow I feel it won't help either. It's girlfriend's pc so I need to go to her place again to do this. It started to annoy me. So I'm gonna do this and then maybe if it doesn't work I should flash the BIOS. I've never done that so I'm a bit hesitant and after reading all BIOS topics here... Thanks for your help!

What is the native resolution of that monitor? You say the monitor is 17.1", but according to search results its a 20" widescreen monitor?
Yes it's Samsung T200 20" widescreen monitor. Though report the program generated says it's 17.1" which is strange.
In Device Manager it stands T200 which is correct. T200 max res. is 1680x1050. With onboard VGA i can run only 1280x1024 and it doesn't have DVI output.

Well lets trace back the steps. It started happening at the time you added the 480.
I don't want to be a pessimist, but there is the possibility that an overload on the PSU may have caused a problem on the 12V circuit of the PSU causing other damage on the 12V board input circuits.
but how motherboard could be damaged, this psu ocz fatal1ty 550w is about 1,5 year old, and its sufficient to turn on it gtx 480, even pc didn't turn on when i changed on gtx 480.

I had similar problems. I resolved them removing all pci cards and battery also. Turn pc on without any cards on pci slots until windows boots.
Don't forget to adjust your system time. When windows boot normally I shut down the computer and put all the cards on pci slots. That procedure resolve my problems.
I suspect of the version of my bios. Recently I upgrade my bios version to the 1.E version avaiable on the MSI site.
I hope that you can fix your problem.

I also use cpuid hwmonitor to check temps n volts 12 vlt rail is at 12.05 during load. The gpu load temps on the lightning nvr exceed 72c at stock and 76c with the oc. Should I get a new mobo? Compatibility issue? I was looking at a asrock 990fx extreme 3 as this would allow me to upgrade my CPU later if I choose. I am on my current main pc bc bulldozer didn't grab me. Some benches r less than the x6s, my two 6970s perform btr than a single 7970 for my needs and the only increase I would see is if I got two 7970s that's way to much coin n would be bottlenecked by my current CPU I'm sure. Any ideas? I'm at a loss

Looks like he's pointing to this capacitor or resistor, whichever it is.
If everything works OK I wouldn't worry about it. Test your LAN/internet on it good and if it's OK your lucky.
    Yes, this is the component!
To the Internet I am connected via USB Wifi.
When I disable LAN in BIOS, the circuit further powered by electricity? (For sure I would like it shut down)
It certainly belongs to network card?
