Just to recap. 1 ram stick is working in dimm 1. 2 sticks are working in dimm 1 and dimm 5 together. When i put the other two sticks in dimm 5 and dimm 7 i get no POST. I observe the cpu pins. Everything seems good. My friend as the exact same motherboard, processor and ram kit and the ram works. He has a Thermaltake power supply 875watts. So can the power supply we not enough ?
How did you manage to put 2 sticks in slot 5?
We already know one stick in slot 1 works.
We also know 2 sticks in slots 1 and 5 work.
And we even know that all 4 sticks in slots 1 3 5 and 7 do not work.
Now try to focus.
Take out all memory sticks.
Put one known good stick (that works in slot 1 or 5) and put it in slot 3. Does this work?
Now move the memory stick from slot 3 to slot 7. Does this work?

  • MSI X99A SLI PLUS PC CANT BOOT

Hello. I just bought new PC. But after setting up everything, pc cant boot. It just keeps restarting after 1 second. My system:
    MTB: MSI X99A SLI PLUS
CPU: Intel 5820K + Corsair H80i Hydro Series
PSU: Corsair 650 Watt Bronze Cert.

install drivers from MSI web instead:
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/X99S-SLI-PLUS.html#down-driver&Win8.1 64
which are the most recent one, USB 3.0 2014-11-28   Version   V4.90A
I have version 6.1.7600.4903, I'm not sure where MSI is pulling that v4.90A version number, but the .inf for the VIA USB 3.0 controller / hub is reporting a different version number.
Regardless of that, the driver provided from the website has already been installed. Before I swapped USB ports on my webcam I put that driver in. I am still having weird issues with my USB devices (specifically putting USB 2 devices in USB 3 ports I think).

Command Center will not save the value after a reboot...here what msi FAQ says
"Command Center will automatically reset the modified values to default value to prevent system from stability issues due to inappropriate modifications made."
Oh that explains it hehe. Kinda pointless to even put that feature into the Command Center then, but whatever

You should use either BIOS or OC Genie from BIOS for any OC. Other than that (software) is not recommended and usually not stable.
I'd like to help with OC, but I've no experience with neither OC or X99 boards.
Think I found a solution. It seems more stable to do a OC using the boot strap. But I've decided not to OC anything as of this moment, since something in my system is causing digital signal noise (checked with DPC latency checker).  Even after almost disabling all components in the device manager (at least those possible), the signal noise is still there. I think it might be caused by the motherboard.

  • MSI X99 SLI PLUS Memory Issue

    Guys,
When I try to do Quad Channel DDR4, the system will not post. Currently, I have an 8GB Sticks in Slot 1, 3, 5. When I place a stick into slot 7, the system won't post. If I remove one from 3 or 1, it will post. Currently able to use 24GB/32GB. I opened a support case and they told me to re-seat my CPU and check my power supply... not impressed. I see BIOS .162 floating around the forum not sure if that would help.
Also to note, I have moved the DIMMs around to different sockets, I had one that showed up in socket 3 as 4GB, swapped socket 5 and 3, both now show 8GB.

It's on the compatibility list, may not be compatibility problem...
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/X99S-SLI-PLUS.html#support-mem
Try clear CMOS, if it still have problem...
You can also try to flash to BIOS 1.62 to see if help or not.
Are you able to try on another motherboard, or borrow another DDR4 to test if defect mem-slots?
I have taken the following steps:
    1. Upgrade BIOS to 1.5
    2. Reset BIOS to Default State
    3. Reset CMOS
    4. Moved the DIMMs to different slots, including the one I cannot place in the system since it won't post with a 4th DIMM.
As noted, for some time, I was not able to get more than 20GB to show up in the BIOS, only after re-seating and moving DIMMs around was it finally able to see 3 x 8GB sticks. Are you able to give me the errata for the 162 BIOS as well as the "Fix/Change" list I'm all for giving it a shot, just want to know what I'm getting into.

  • MSI x99 SLI Plus Unstable

I just finished building my new PC with the following specs:
    MSI x99 SLI Plus
    I7-5820K
    16GB Corsair LPX 2666-15 Ram
    Evga GTX 980 SC
    Evga G2 SN 850W
I have been experiencing system instability. I updated the bios to the  latest 1.3 firmware. XMP Profile 1 enabled.
My PC randomly freezes unable to recognize keyboard or mouse inputs. I must hard reset at which time it reboots normally.
I ran Memtest86+ & it returned 8 errors during the first pass on test 6. Memtest86+ would also freeze during testing. I subsequently ran Windows Memory Test for 10 passes with no errors or freezes. I ran Memtest86 with all 12 logical cores in parallel for 25 passes with no errors or freezes. I reran Memtest86+ and have not been able to replicate the errors or freezing.
Today the PC froze & rebooted on its own. It was as if the power was being tripped as it would die turn on die turn on and then finally booted to a blank screen. The strangest part was that the on-board motherboard reset wouldn't work. I pressed the switch and nothing happened. I was able to reset the PC via the front panel switch. When the PC rebooted it displayed an error message about an overclock instability. I HAVE NEVER OVERCLOCKED the CPU! The only change to the bios was enabling XMP. The problem is very random and intermittent. Is it the Motherboard or RAM?

I upgraded my PC  a month ago with this bundle
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-023-OG&groupid=2833&catid=2512
which has the same MB/CPU combo and have been experiencing similar problems regarding stability. I've updated the BIOS to 1.3 and have run the Windows memory test without error.
I've tried several OC methods - the Overclockers UK setting, OC Genie and my own modest OC which involved just changing the CPU ratio to 38.
The Overclockers OC has never run successfully while the other two seem to run for one session OK but when I switch off then restart I get the 'Overclock instability' message.
It seems to run OK at the default setting though booting up can sometimes be problematic with it freezing intermittently at the MSI Logo page or at the Windows screen just before the animated logo starts.
Resetting then either solves the problem or produces the Windows error screen and selecting  'Start Windows normally' solves the problem.
BIOS B which I have never updated seems to run without issue.
I'm reaching the conclusion that this MB is inherently unstable at anything other than default settings.

  • MSI X99S SLI PLUS boot error A2

I upgraded my PC two weeks ago with the  MSI X99S SLI PLUS, an i7 5820, an M.2 SATA SSD and 16Gb of DDR4
I have no problem booting up with the second BIOS (B) but booting into the primary BIOS (A) goes as follows:
Codes 99, 0C, B4, 9c and A2 appear in sequence at which point it freezes
I reset and it goes through the above but gets to the MSI screen where again it freezes (pressing DEL or F11 on the menu screen has no effect)
Reset again and it gets to the Windows screen and freezes before the animated logo starts.
'A' BIOS is updated to 1.2 and uses the Overclockers UK 3.8 overclock profile
'B' BIOS is at stock (1.0 and 3.3GHz)
I did get BIOS A to work for 2 days but after shutting down the PC it failed to boot the next time I switched it on (nothing had been changed either software or hardware).
I understand that A2 indicates a SATA error but I don't understand why BIOS 'B' works OK if that is the case. Surely a hardware error would cause both BIOS to fail.
I haven't yet tried clearing the CMOS as presumably that would delete the Overclockers UK overclock profile. But should that be my next step?
I should mention that under 'Devices and Printers' there is an error indicated at 'PCI bus 0, device 17, function 0' - 'The drivers for this unidentified device are not installed. (Code 28)' Running the Update failed to find a driver for this device (whatever it might be)
The only PCI device that I have attached is the GPU (GTX680OC) which has the latest driver installed.

Regarding Profile that OC has made for you: I believe BIOS is same/similar to Z87/Z97 and you can save profile to USB. But in addition I would just use pen+paper and write down all the OC info they have change (i.e. voltages, RAM timings etc) to be able to revert this if you would clear CMOS.
Also if you could specify more accurately what speeds are RAM currently at, and what is their "stock" speeds sold as (e.g "I have 4x4 Corsair 1600MHz but I run them @1866MHz).
What is the GPU make? MSI/ASUS/EVGA? I suggest you contact this brand regarding possible vBIOS update.
Try using BIOS A while having only Keyboard and Mouse attached. So other USB devices disconnected.
You can safely clear CMOS of B since there's no profile on it right? >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Also I would contact OC'ers since it's their responsibility to make sure OC profile is stable and safe. Apparently they are meant to test the system for stability. And ask if in case you lose your OC profile, if they will be able to provide info (or BIOS saved file) so you can get it back.
Is this whole system made by them, or you have added something (e.g. SSD or M2 drive) ?

  • MSI X99 SLI Plus - Blue Screen at Log In

After my $2000 computer died, I rebuilt using a new MSI x99 SLI plus motherboard, 5820k cpu, and ddr4 2600 for $1100.
    It has been 18 days.
I was questioning the motherboard since the beginning since USB devices seemed to go in and out as if they were being plugged in in the middle of working, but I got around most of the problems by not allowing the PC to go into sleep mode.
This morning I wake up and go to check my email and the computer does a wake-up that is different. The bios screen comes up and then I see "resuming windows..." It gets to the log in screen and I enter my credentials. A few seconds later blue screen and reboot.
I try safe mode - log in, blue screen, reboot
I try system restore to a week ago - log in, blue screen, reboot
The store is not going to take any components back, they have a 15 day return policy and it has been 18 days. Nice!
I am not sure whether or not I can really say it is the motherboard. Maybe it is the GPU, who knows?
Anyone know of a way that I can get the details of that blue screen when I cannot even log into safe mode to look?
What kind of troubleshooting would you try?
I am ready to swallow a shotgun.

a roll back may have fixed it but it just depends when it was last updated! - i mean when was the last time that image you where trying to roll back to last updated was it before your problem started?
Everything was working as of 4:00am Central Time Today (11/7/12).
Blue Screens after log in started as of 9:30am Central Time Today.
There has been no windows update between 4:00am and 9:30am today that I am aware of.
The rollback to restore point was to 11/4/14, which would go well beyond any update if one did occur, which it couldn't without my clicking the install updates button manually.
There was no new hardware installed and no new driver updates done between yesterday and today. I played a few games and went to bed :p
    Quote from: badboy2k on 08-November-14, 06:39:33
a blue screen when windows trys to start is usually it running the drive in the wrong mode: enter your BIOS - go to settings - advanced - integrated Perifirals - SATA mode (see if that is in AHCI mode)
I'll double check the BIOS in a bit when I get home from work, but again, I don't see how the BIOS setting would change all by themselves, unless there was a power outage or surge. Neither of those occurred.
I think all signs are pointing to hardware failure. Either the motherboard, GPU, or RAM.
I'll do a memory test and if that doesn't shed light, a reinstall of Windows, if that doesn't fix it, I'm RMAing.

  • MSI x99s SLI Plus USB 3.0 Issues

    Hi All,
Having issues with my MSI x99s SLI Plus - I recently purchased a Netgear A6210 (Network Adapter; supports USB 3.0); when plugging it into the USB 3.0 ports (I've tried all the USB 3.0 ports) on the back, the device goes into a constant disconnect/reconnect loop (not the network, the actual device, as if I'm physically removing and connecting it), sometimes 3-4 times, always at least once. It does eventually stop and then the device proceeds to work as normal, however, this does not happen on the USB 2.0 ports. I've tried to rule out the A6210 by plugging it into another computer (USB 3.0) and it works fine. I have all the latest drivers (the board is only 2 days old) for both the MOBO (latest BIOS v1.8) and A6210... its strange, anyone see anything like this?
    Specs:
    MSI x99s SLI Plus
    i7-5820k
    4GB Crucial Ballistix
    GTX 980

It sounds like an issue with the motherboard firmware in some way.
I would contact MSI directly about the issue.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
As a side note, I looked on Netgear's forums, and it really appears that there is quite a bit of problems with the A6200 line of network adapters......

  • X99A SLI plus and M.2 not showing up in the BIOS

I just put together my new computer and I'm having trouble with the BIOS settings. When I attempt to set the M.2 as the primary boot drive it doesn't show up as an option. In the system status screen the M.2 / SATA port 5 is saying not present. I verified the SSD I have is on the supported list for this motherboard and have tried removing and reinstalling the drive with no success. Currently the drive shows up in windows when booting off a different hard drive. Does anyone have any idea what is going on with my build?
    X99A SLI PLUS (CLICK 4 BIOS v1.7)
    Intel i7-5820K
    Corsair Vengeance DDR4 4x8GB @ 2666MHZ
Kingston HyperX Predator SHPM2280P2 240GB (Drive in question)
Evea 660 (going to be replaced when the 980 arrives)
    BIOS settings:
    Peg 1-2 Auto
    M.2 Source link in auto
M.2 PCH strap in M.2 PCH PCIe

Windows doesn't recognize it as a bootable drive so it can't be installed on it currently.
Under the BBS section in the BIOS only the other three SATA drives are showing up, not the M2.
I think the BIOS is just not recognizing that there is a drive in the M2 slot for some reason although it is recognized by windows when I boot using a SATA drive.

  • MSI X99 SLI Plus - Won't Post

    I've got:
    Motherboard: MSI X99 SLI Plus
    Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX
It's a new build and I can't get it to post. When I try to turn it on, a red LED located next to the 24 pin ATX power connector comes on and will not go off until I cut the power at the Power Supply. I can't find anything online concerning the red LED. Is it some overvoltage protection? An issue with the memory? I'm at a loss trying to diagnose this. Please see the images below:

    Hello.
I'm having the exact same issue.
My computer was running with no issues for over 1 month and today when i tried to start it this exact issue happened.
The lights on the rest of the motherboard are working (CMOS, Power, OC Genie) but it won't post.
I have tried to reset the CMOS, re-seated and tried various configurations for the RAM, tried both BIOS and OC Genie on and off and the issue remains.
Could this be a PSU issue? If so, would the remaining lights work?
Anyone else had this issue and how did you fix it?
    Thank you in advance!
