MOVED: My 3700 SD Ocing progress

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
My 3700 SD Ocing progress

1. No, the pressure should not damage the core. Remember that the IHS transfer any pressure you put on it to the core, so even with it you put pressure on it. The difference is that without it, you can put pressure on it so that the pressure is not applied flat on the core, and that can crack the core.
2. Overvolting is always a tricky question when it comes to semi-conductors. And there is no easy reply to say; Yes it will be damaged, or No it will not be damaged. What my experience and knowledge in the area of electronics tell me though is this; Overvoltage on semi-conducturs take away time from the amount of time the circuits have to "live". It may be much (causing the circuits to die much faster) and it may be very little. But it will shorten the life-span of the circuit. The question is if it matters. If your chip is reduced to live only 2 years instead of 10, does that matter? perhaps not, perhaps. It all depends on wheter or not you are prepared to purchase a new CPU when this one goes.
As for the temperature. Low temperatures help semi-conducturs survive over-voltage longer. So lower temperatures means that you prolong the life of the circuits. But it does not guarantee that the chip does not suffer from an "early" death. On the reverse end of the spectrum, high temperatures make semi-conductors more suceptible to damage from over-voltage. In general, "safe" over-voltage is usually around +5% to +10% of the default drive voltage.

Ok guys,  I removed the IHS and i put 4 neoprene pads at the corner of the PCB... At 2.8Ghz, my temps from before were around 45C idle, and 52C load.....Now that i have my IHS removed, my temps dropped to 33-34C idle and 41C load !!! amazing eh? I was scared sh*tless when i was removing the IHS and when i had to adjust the pressure on the core....but i did it.. So now, here are my results so far
    1) AMD 3700 SD @ 2.95Ghz using Swiftech watercooling @ 40C idle and 46C load (using sisoft sandra burn in test) with 1.57V.
    2) OCZ DDR400 EL platinum Rev 2.0  2x512MB @ 295Mhz @ 2.5-3-5-3 @ 275V
    3)Sapphire X800XT PE @ 520/560 @ 32C-33C idle and 40C load....
I am still running 25 loops of sisandra soft to make sure it is stable..
    I have 2 questions guys
1)I removed the IHS and my temps drop alot.. If i do not touch my CPU waterblock and do not add any more pressure on to it and i do not oc past its limit, will my CPU eventually be damaged in the future? What im trying to say is that will the sustain pressure on the core itself cause damage to the cpu in the future??
    2) Will increasing the vcore still be harmful to your cpu if your temps are still low?? My temps are less than 50C at 1.57V... Can i pump in more voltage as long as my voltage is below 50C ?
Thanks for all your help, i will keep you guys updated

Words around OC cummunity is that you should be safe with the vcore upto 1.65v with proper cooling .
Temps , not sure . It will depend on current running vcore and frequency i guess , but in my own experiments I had a setup/test with 55C during load
and it ran stresstesting fine with a 500mhz overclock.
The compound AMD use inside between the core and the IHS - looks like it's not great and becomes a variable OCers
    should take into consideration .
It also seems that the result of the assembly and the inside compound amount is varying fram cpu to cpu
giving some higher load temps than others . Becomes very visbale when OCing with more freq and vcore .
There is another alternative to removing the IHS completely that some have been using with good results .
Lapping it shiny on-top . Taking it off and redo the inside by using AS5 mixed with a little bit adhesive . Then set/glue the IHS back on .

  • Problem in transferring data from iPad 2 to iPad Air

I just got a new iPad Air. I naturally wanted to transfer as much of the data as possible from my old iPad 2 (then to wipe the old iPad and pass it on).
I read all the advice on line about changing.
I did full and successful back ups of the iPad 2 to iTunes and to the cloud (I've always done regular backups throughout).
Upon starting the new iPad Air, I selected it to download the saved iPad 2 backup to my new platform.
Unfortunately, I found that whilst some data has been copied across to the new platform, some hasn't.
I think that all my music has been moved ok.
However, whilst my apps also seem to have been moved....the progress that I have made within the apps is totally missing. It's as if all the games etc are starting from the very beginning. Is this how it must be?
Also, a few of the screenshots and photos have appeared on the new iPad but the vast majority are absent.
My Google mail account is showing in the new iPad but not my other 3 mail accounts though this isn't a big problem as I can easily add the missing accounts.
It's very frustrating as I had made huge progress with some games (over 3 to 4 years) and my pictures are important to me.
Did I do something fundamentally wrong?
    Is it recoverable?
I spent a lot of money to upgrade my iPad, and I currently wonder whether it was a mistake. At the moment I feel like I will need to retain the old and the new iPads which wasn't really part of the plan.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Regards.

    Hello,
First.  You cannot transfer game progress from device to device.  As far as I know, no games do that, unless it's a game like Words with Friends, etc.
Are your photos in the iCloud?  You can download them that way.  Another option is by using a third party software to upload to your computer, and then upload to your new iPad Air.  I've used a program that does this because I've had a lot of different device and it's a one time payment but the software is always free to update.  You can back up literally everything and is faster than an iTunes backup.
You didn't do anything wrong.  If there are pictures you want, you can always imessage them to yourself. Lol, if it's not a ton.  But like I said, a third part software is the easiest and fastest.  If you google it you would find some software.
Or upload the photos to a site like photobucket and then you can download the whole album.
    Just a few alternatives.

  • HELP! Extremely Worried for Film Project (lost files) (please read urgent)

Okay so here is the dilemma-
Here I am tonight, plugging away at the editing process for a short film that I filmed in California back in February, and have had various other film producers and buddies filming at random times out there since. I had all of my footage on a WD Storage drive (this included pretty much all of the video files), and I had already imported all of the files into premiere and was about to begin editing the footage with them. Suddenly, I noticed that I was going low in memory space on my hard drive that I was working on, so I saved my Premiere File, then selected it, dropped it over into the WD Storage Drive that also contained all the footage from the film, and clicked on it to open it from there. However, when I opened the premiere file this time, it asked me to located "MVI_6104.mov", the first .mov file out of 400 that I had in there... and I couldn't find it. I looked for the source files in the new hard drive I'd just moved my premiere file into (where they just were at), i looked for them in my old hard drive, and in the three additional hard drives I have sitting next to my Mac... but the files had simply vanished without a trace. I checked the trash, nothing, and I havent deleted any files all night. They're simply gone, and I've hand combed every inch of every hard drive... will someone please help me? Without this footage I am dead and I am willing to get it back at all costs. Already ran a few of the free data recovery scans, but to no avail.. they picked up nothing. I literally have no idea what happened and I am currently having a panic attack. Thank you so much for your time and I really hope you can help me find an answer.
    Thanks.
    -Colin

    @JudeCotter-
The files used to be in a clearly marked folder on my hard drive labelled "Death Rides The Apocalypse Source Files" (the name of the film). I've searched every hard drive I own for the files and nothing. I can't find even a trace of them existing in the first place. The entire folder that used to be there is gone along with the files! Very strange.
    @shooternz-
Thanks. I searched the external drive first with data deletion recovery services, then by myself and I hand combed through all of the folders and video files. I even specifically searched the drive for file names in case I missed something, but nothing. I run OS X 10.6.8, and Premiere Pro CS5.5 The original source files were on the external hard drive with a tetrabyte of space that I attempted to move the PPro project onto, but now their original folders, names, files and everything have literally vanished. The project file doesn't matter since I just started editing but I lost all of the footage in there. The external hard drive still has around 765.3 GB of space left so I doubt I killed it simply moving a project over , but you never know. It was odd, when I moved it, the "Move In Progress" window with the twisting progress bar flashed for a second that it was to move 186.5 GB (which would accurately be around the amount of footage we had), but suddenly flashed and just moved it over in a second. Maybe this will shed some light. I'm extremely confused and worried. Thank you.

  • Workflow in reply dependent on parent field values

We have a key existing process which could be described as a member of one organization sends a work request to a different organization. The first organization has a manager assigned to this job. The second organization assigns a lead engineer to the job. These two people negotiate a target completion date. Throughout this the job moves through various workflow states. In a number of cases after the job is in progress, circumstances change that might require the target to be renegotiated. However for the sake of various metrics, the original target has to be maintained and the job cannot be moved out of the in-progress state.
This process was implemented using the SiteScape forum product about 7 years ago. The way we dealt with this issue in forum was to have a custom reply type to revise the target date. That reply type has its own workflow which uses a workflow question to which both the manager and the lead engineer respond. Those people are designated in the parent record.
When implementing this in Vibe, it appears that although it looks like you can designate those fields as the responders in the workflow, it does not work. I am assuming that it is because there is no way for the system to know that it is supposed to be those field values in the parent record.
I suppose that it would be possible to re-engineer this process in some way that might be more compatible but then I would be left with over 30 thousand records of critical importance that could not be migrated to a new Vibe based system.
What I really need is a way to tell the system that these values are on the parent record.
Any thoughts or help doing this would be appreciated.

  • Can someone explain Scan mode to me?

I'm just looking for a little help. I have just taken a production coordinator role and part of my job is to export broadcast quality movies as well as send different formats to clients to check. Today my boss told me to export a clip in DV Pal and make it "progressive". So, in the options I found the scan mode drop down had a choice of "interlaced" or "progressive" and I therefore chose the latter.
I just wondered what the reason was for choosing "progressive" over "Interlaced"?
I know this probably sounds like a dumb question to a lot of you, but my boss is not the most helpful, informative of men so I am kind of trying to learn as I go.
So, if anyone can offer any advice regarding this or even tips about codecs and exporting, that'd be really great.
    Many thanks.

Think of every horizontal line of pixels on your screen as a different line.
Progressive: scans one line at a time moving downwards
Interlaced: scans every odd line moving downwards, then every even line moving downwards.
Pretty much progressive provides a better picture, but interlaced can raise the framerate. The problem with interlaces is that videos can end up looking ugly and stripe-y.
If this doesn't make sense, maybe this video can help:

Is there any way by which i can have a image moving in a Progressbar(instead of rectangle moving) in case of indeterminate progress bar???
    please help...

Are you by any chance working on an Adjustment Layer?
Try using Enhance -> Adjust Color -> Replace Color instead.
If it still doesnt work try resetting the preferences.

  • Using the same itunes account for two users on the same macbook pro

Hi all.  I purchased a macbook pro in september (which I have absolutely adore), but because my semester was so jam packed with work, I wasn't able to take it in for my data transfer until the Christmas season.  Everything was transferred correctly, but for some reason the transfer leaves me with two different users on the same macbook.  I don't really have any problem with this, except I want to access the music from the "old user" with the new user that I have been using since I purchased the macbook.  Is there any way that I can move my music from one user to another?  Bear in mind that I only have one itunes account, and almost all of this music was purchased legally through itunes (I had some old cd's that I transferred back when I first bought the original macbook back in 07).  Thank you!

I'm assuming that you want to get both your purchased music AND your ripped CD's back into the New iTunes Library.  If you use iCloud to re-download all your purchased music, TV, apps and books you wont get your CD's or movies back; and you'll use up a lot of internet bandwidth and time to re-download everything.  So, I'm going to give you a way to get the music and everything else off the hard drive into your new iTunes Library.
But, I need some clarification here.  I'm assuming that you recently used Migration Assistant to move your old Mac's user account to the new Mac, so when you turn on the new Mac you have a choice to log in as either the "Old_User" or the "New_User", or something like that.  And both user acounts are using the same iTunes music store Apple ID, right?
And, I'm assuming that you have both accounts set up with your iCloud or MobileMe information, so they have the same info in the contacts, calandars, bookmarks, and notes.  If you didn't use iCloud to load this info to the new user, then importing your old contacts, calendars, bookmarks and such will require an extra few steps, and is a different process entirely (composed of exporting the data from each of those apps while logged in as the Old User, and then importing them while logged in as the New User).
I'm assuming that the main differences in the two accounts will be that your old documents, old downloads, old email, old iPhoto and old iTunes library are not merged with the new ones, right? Apples Migration Assistant would have merged the Mac Apps folder and copied over all the Shared Users documents if it was done right. I'm also assuming that you kept your old iTunes Library in your Old User account and not in the Shared Users folder, right?
If that's the case, first decide which account will become the primary account that you you will use all the time from this point forward.  You may want to choose the account that has the most recent work that you have done with the computer over the past semester since it's set up the way you like it, or the account that has the largest amount of data and history that you don't want to move.  The next step will be done by first logging into whichever account you wont be using in the future (except to access old info that can't be moved).
If you are happy with how it's working now and just want to move your old documents, photos, and music over to the new account, then it seems to me that it would help things if you first log in as your "Old User" name" and move (or copy) your old documents, downloads, iPhoto Library, and iTunes library to the Shared Users folder.
I would basically move everything important in the Old User's home folder to the Shared Users folder, keeping the files in the proper subfolders like "Music" "iTunes" "Pictures" "Movies" "Documents" "Downloads" etc...  However, if your New iTunes Library or New iPhoto Library and such are already in the Shared User's folder, make sure you don't replace them with the old ones, by renaming the old ones first (maybe add the word "old" to the name.
Mind you, when you have moved everything, and you log out of the Old User acount, and then log in as the New User, you will usually have to enter any administrator's User name and password whenever you want to make changes to those old documents while logged in as the New User.  Before going forward you should first change the User Permissions of those files to let the New User "own" them, so it will stop asking you for a name and password every time you want to access them in the future.
EVERYTHING from this point forward assumes that you are now logged in as the New User, and you should not ever need to log in as the Old User, except to access your old email archives or old Keychain Access to find stored passwords (which I think are stored in the Old User's "Library" folder which is invisible and inaccessable in Lion).  I don't know how to merge old saved emails or keychain passwords into the new account (mobile me can sync the keychains or mail rules/accounts, but iCloud can't, and mobile me doesn't sync the actual emails that were downloaded since 2007).
First, to change the "Sharing & Permissions" to the New User just select "Get Info" for any old document or enclosing folder that need their permissions changed to the New User, click on the little lock icon at the bottom right of the Get Info Window, authenticate with any Administrator's Name and Password, and click okay.  If it shows your New User name as "Read Only" change that to "Read and Write".  If your New User name is not in the list, click the "+" icon on the bottom left and select the New User name, and set it for Read and Write.  Sometimes you have to do this "+" user step more than once to get it to stick.
Then, after your New User name shows it's set for "Read & Write", with your New User name still selected, click on the little "cog-wheel" icon next to the +/- buttons, and choose "Apply to Enclosed Items".  The computer could take a long while to finish changing the permissions if there are a lot of files in the folder you changed, so be patient.  When it's done you should "own" all the files in that old folder as the new user.  You are now ready to proceed with importing the old music into the New iTunes library.
First launch iTunes (still as the New User), and go to File > Preferences > Advanced.  Make sure iTunes is set to "keep itunes media folder organized" and "copy filkes to itunes media folder".  Click okay.  It may open a small window showing that things are being moved and organized, with a progress bar, and then it's done.  It wont do that if you are already organized and copied.
At this point, you could simply locate your old iTunes music folder in the Finder and drag the Finder folder onto the open iTunes app window and let go of the trackpad button when the cursor changes to a green "+" sign, and it will import and copy everything into the new iTunes Library.  When it's done you can delete the old Music folder in the Finder (not in iTunes).  However, you may not have enough hard drive space to make the copies, and it will be much slower than if you move the files in the finder before you import them.  You may still have duplicates of your ripped music that you added to the new iTunes Library, and can delete those from within iTunes.
My step to get the old music to show up in the New iTunes Library by moving them instead of copying them will be done in a particular way, that will avoid having the entire old music folder left behind to take up space on your hard drive, and it will make the import process significantly faster.  You are basically going to use the Finder to move the old music folder into the New iTunes Media folder, but you need to do it in such a ways as to not overwrite the new stuff.
So, before you move your old iTunes Music folder into the new iTunes media folder, rename the old Music folder with the word "old" in it, then move that folder into your current iTunes Media folder.  Move it, don't copy it.  If the Mac forces you to copy it, once it's done you can delete the old music's original folder, after you confirm it's all there in the copied folder.  This sometimes happens when you move files from Shared Users that you haven't changed the ownership properly before the move.  Now when you drag the old music folder onto the iTunes App window, since the files are already in the iTunes Media Folder it will not copy the files but will simply move them around and organize them inside the new iTunes Music folder.
You can repeat these steps with the old Movies, TV shows, Apps and Books, or whatever you want to move to the new iTunes Music Library.
I don't know how to "merge" the old iPhoto Library with the new one, but when you click on iPhoto in the dock while holding down the option key while you click, it will let you choose which iPhoto Library to open.  From a dialog box you can choose the old one, which you copied to the Shared Users folder earlier.  It's possible that a similar technique of dragging the old iPhoto library older on top of the iPhoto App window would import things, but you'd need to research that first.
I wish I had more time to proof-read this answer, but I have to go to a meeting, but can check back later for questions.

  • My itunes in my i phone will not shuffle my music lists ?

my music list does not shuffle despite trying multiple times and resetting iphone.

Hi there I just upgraded my phone and kept having this problem on and off whilst in the gym and finding it very frustrating. I managed to fix it as follows :
After pressing shuffle and discovering that the same song keeps repeating, look at the top of the screen just below the part where there is a moving scale which depicts the progression of the song.
On the right you should see a smaller version of the shuffle symbol
On the left you should see a curved arrow.
If this arrow has a number one printed on it this means it will just keep repeating the same song over and over.
If you press it the "one" should disappear leaving just a curved arrow and you should find that the shuffle works again.
I think I must just have been randomly knocking it when tucking it in my pocket and it took me a while to work out what I had been doing.
Hope this works for others! (It might be why re-sinking ultimately works- because this also effectively resets the repeat function?)

  • Safari Status Bar, no information while loading page

This isn't new and I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere but I looked and didn't find an obvious answer.  In past versions (?) Safari's status bar at the bottom of the browser window used to show information about page loading progress while the page was attempting to load.  Items like
x out of y items complete (or loaded or something like that)
    used to be displayed...
Now, and for some time now, nothing...  Why???
Now, there is nothing but the blue progress bar that moves left to right in the URL box while the page is loading...  As long as it's moving, then I can say progress is happening...  However, often the blue bar stops for quite a long time and by habit I still find myself looking down to the status bar to see what it says and it says nothing...
Again, this isn't new now but I'm just now getting curios enough to ask about it...
Am I doing something wrong or do I need to take some addtional steps to get useful information out of the status bar???
What's up with the Safari Status Bar???
    thanks...

But what about when a page is loading and the blue progress bar in the URL window stalls.  Anytime that happens I look down to the status bar and where it used to offer useful information, now it offers nothing.  What happened to that???  Is there anyway to get info on a seemingly stalled load of a page???
    thanks...  bob...

  • OS X Mavericks just says "downloading"

So, I'm downloading OS X mavericks on my mac and it's working no problem.  It's about half way done downloading.  However, when I go to download it on my girlfriends mac from the mac app store, it just shows the little icon as "downloading" and the loading bar not moving at all (whereas mine is moving and it shows the progress of the download in terms of how many GB's are left).  Anyone know how to fix this?

Did you see the link i posted previously for Mavericks requirements?
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
Make sure there's ernough free space to install Mavericks.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop on in the Finder sidebar then click Get Info.
Make sure there's never less than 15% free disk space.
5Mbps download? Just so you are aware, if it at some point you need to repair the startup disk or restore OS X that requires using OS X Recovery. OS X Recovery requires a broadband (high speed connection) as noted here.  With Mavericks installed, the disk cannot be repaired using your original install disc.
5Mbps... the 8GB download will probably time out before it can finish. Contact your iSP for upgrade options.

Are you using WiFi? if you are this will take a long time, switching to a wired connection will go much faster but as you have started I would not change now.
