Moved my folder

Hi all firstly I am on iphoto vers 2 and have never really used it other than to let it import from my camera but I'm thinking of trying to get into it a bit more ... do I really need to spend £50 to get vers 6 ? Also ... I moved at sometime my pictures folder when I was having a clean up .. I have now put it back in what I think is the right place ie users\my name (the one with the little house icon)\pictures\iPhoto Library and then in there I have several folders ... this is how I've organised my pics ... should I have done this organising in iphoto ?... and if I want to ... when I open up iphoto get a no pictures message do you want to find ... when I navigate to the folder it won't allow me to click 'open' ... then if I try and creat a new library ... how do I 'import' the pictures into it ?
many thanks for your time ... Roger

Hi roger,
It is hard for me to remember version 2 as I don't think it used it much back then (no digital camera).
It was a big no no to put your own folders in there.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto and have it create a new library for you.
Now you need to navigate through the old library on the desktop and figure out which folders of images you manually put in there and which folder of images contain the imports from your camera. You want to only import the images from your camera, not the folders that contain the thumbnail images.
Take a look at how version 5 library looks in the Finder and tell me if you have the Year/Month/Day folders in your library.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.
If you can, send me screenshots of what your library looks like in the finder (similar to the screenshots I have) My email is in my profile.

  • Moving a folder to a subfolder?

    Hi all,
Maybe my question is really basic, but I just can't find a solution.
I have created a folder in the main Power BI site on Office365. Now I'd like to move this folder into another folder.
    How can I do this?
    Regards,
    Pascal

Hi Pascal, moving a folder is supported at the level of SharePoint itself. One of the easy options is to open the document library in explorer and simply move the folder to the right position in the document library. (see below how you get to it in SPO).
BTW, you can see also the following movie

  • After moving a folder to an external drive i can still see the images even with the external drive off

I have moved a folder with a lot of subfolders onto an external drive but when I disconnect the external drive I can still view them in Lightroom. I thought this took them off my Mac Book Drive.

The previews that LR makes for itself are small and their size can be set in Preferences. The default is around 1600 pixels wide and it should be set to the size closest to your monitor resolution.
Another feature that might interest you is the ability to make Smart Previews, either at import or later. The SP is a 2560 pixels wide DNG, whereas the normal preview is a jpg, and as such can act as a surrogate for the Raw file and can be edited in place of it when the external drive is offline. When the drive is reconnected, the edits are associated with the original.

  • Moved itunes folder to external drive and now lost playlists

To free space on my hard drive, I moved the folder to my external drive. Now, I successfully can access my music library, but my playlists aren't listed and I can't figure out how to get them/point to them. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

polydorus, you are my hero. I launched itunes with the shift key down and was able to select the library on the external drive. I would not have thought of that. Thanks so much.
shockme, I found changed the folder name under the advanced tab wasn't enough. I used File>Import and imported the music from the external drive no problem.
mlevin, I was really scared deleted the original file too. I checked several times that the exact number of bytes were moved in case I wanted to go back. Change the music location, do the import, fix the playlists and get all going and then I assume you can delete the contents in the music folder like I did. Then I did a defrag to clean things up. Good luck!

I'm new to Logic Express, and just starting my initial setup. What's the smartest way to move all my song folders to an external hard drive. I tried just dragging and dropping it which moved the folder, but when I try to save any new work it doesn't automatically like to the external drive. Sorry for the silly question I'm just getting started.

  • IPod won't sync anymore after moving itunes folder

I just got a laptop and want to be able to transfer all my music from iTunes and iPod from the desktop to the new computer. I wasn't ready to do it completely but read that I needed to move the iTunes folder to a shared folder so that I could access it with my laptop via my network. I did not realize what the results would be however! When I docked my iPod to the desktop this morning, I noticed that my iPod was empty after it had updated. All 4000+ songs/podcasts gone! Ack! I noticed that iTunes seems to be ok, all the songs are there, except they all have an exclamation point next to them. Re-docking and trying to sync does not work. The music won't transfer. I put the folder back into the my documents folder but nothing changed. Even system restore didn't help. I am desperate. I am even willing to forget the idea of putting everything on the laptop if I can just get things to how they were. When I clicked on the exclamation point in iTunes it said the original file could not be found. I would hate to have to load each cd in again. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

First I'll explain whats happened. when you moved the folder to a shared folder, then tried to update the iPod it wiped it out because iTUnes had no songs in it. All music shared over a network will not update to iPod, the songs have to be on the PCs harddrive.
What you need to do first is place the folder on the "Old" PC back to its default location in the "My MUisc" folder. It gets confusing because theres 2 iTUnes folders, one is named "iTUnes" the other is inside this one named "iTunes Music". So the "iTUnes" folder needs to be in the "My Music FOlder and the "iTUnes Music" one needs to be in the "Itunes" folder.
Once you have placed it back open iTUnes and make sure all the ! marks beside the songs are gone. DON'T UPDATE YOUR IPOD!!!! Since its already blank, you can use the whole iPOd harddrive to transfer the songs over. Hold down the shift and Ctrl keys. While holding them down connect the iPod let iTUnes open, and when it list the ipod, let go of the keys. this will stop an auto update from happening.
Now rightclick ipod in iTUnes, hit options, select "Manual Update". Now your iPod will be set to transfer. go here and follow the directions for moving the whole iTUnes library and songs to your new laptop. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Once everything is transfered over you can rightclick the ipod and set it back to auto update or whatever you had it on and uncheck "Enable Disk Use"
I also see you have a toshiba laptop, iPOd has issues with some toshibas so this artical may also be of help if you have troble getting the laptop to see your iPod http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836

  • Yesterday I moved a folder from my portable drive to the desktop of a computer called B3. The folder

Yesterday I moved a folder from my portable drive to the desktop of a computer called B3. The folder contained four tiff files and 16 PSD image files that I had been Photoshoping for two weeks. I dragged the folder into bridge for a quick look. Most of the fliles had been processed in Lightroom 4. When I opened the first image in PS all of the layers were gone and the image looked like it had never had anything done to it. All of the PSD images opened with the same result, no layers, weeks of work gone. I took the portable drive and plugged it into my labtop. All of the layers were there. What happened? there was no older version of the file on the drive.

Actually that would not have had any impact. When I processed the files in Lightroom there was a software glitch and they would not open as PSD 's inPs they appeared as raw files in PS. Yes I know how to set preferences. Ok to get around that one I exported my files as PSD into a folder. After I always opened them from the folder so I don't see how the XMP files could be an issue. Also remember for two weeks I had been working using the same procedure with out any trouble@bdentonphoto: RT @Patrick_Baz: @patrickwitty: Brutal, important frontpage of the @guardiannews, heartbreaking photo from the massacre in Houla, #Syria http://t.co/7411qhUf

  • So I made a mistake (moved a folder)

So I made a mistake. I moved a folder from my HD to my Shared folder by drag and drop. But when I looked in the target Shared folder, only the files in the root directory was copied. The subfolders also appeared there, but they were EMTPY! Where are my files? They aren't in the original HD folder (because I moved it). They aren't in the target folder. Getting desperate for help (sorry, I just bought my first Mac and brought up with PC so possibly a simple stupid question)!

Click on the Desktop, CMD+F, enter iTunes Music, click on File name, and see what pops up. If nothing, launch the Terminal app in /Applications/Utilities/, type in this command, and hit the return key:
    *locate "iTunes Music"*
If nothing pops up, rebuild the locate database, using this command:
    *sudo /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb*
copy/paste it into the Terminal window, hit the return key, at the Password: prompt, carefully type in your admin password because nothing shows up on the screen, and hit the enter key. This will take 15-30 minutes. After you get the prompt back, run the above locate command again.

    Hi voyant
I would put the Users folder back... moving it will cause a lot of issues with applications.
Instead you can just copy individual files/folders from C:\Users\your_username\Documents,Pictures,Music.... to your D drive to save space on C.

  • So I made a mistake (moved iTunes folder)

I have two users on my iMac and discussed with the Mac Store's Genius Bar how to share the iTunes library between the users. I made the mistake of 'moving' the iTunes folder to the Shared folder with drag and drop, and since then I can't see any of my iTunes music (files). The music (iTunes) files are clearly still on my hard drive somewhere, but how do i "find" them again? (I used to be PC user so I'm a bit thick!) Happy for help!

Thanks Chris. I'm sorry it didn't work. First task is to find the files themselves, because when I moved the folder the files didn't move with it; the iTunes/iTunes Music folder in Shared is now completely empty. And when I look in the iTunes/iTunes Music folder on my original HD it is ALSO empty. Once I have found the music files (that used to be in my iTunes/iTunes Music folder, then I guess I can use your tip. But I am not there yet. I suspect this is a Mac OS issue. Any other ideas (getting desperate since I had quite a lot of music stored...)?

  • TA23205 moved iwork folder to applications and now iwork doesn't work

My iwork is not moving as I stupidly moved the folder to the desktop. I moved it back to download where it was but still nothing. Neith Pages or keynote work.
How do I get it back.
Can I simply restore my computer to the a time before I moved the folder?

Delete all traces of iWork and reinstall using the original install disc or install from the App Store depending how you purchased iWork originally.

  • Moved iTunes Folder isn't Located

Ok, so I needed to free-up some space on my main drive, so I copied the 20GB iTunes Music folder to my external drive, then used iTunes/Preferences/Advanced to set that as "iTunes Music Folder" location. Deleted the original folder from my main drive. Now iTunes can't locate the moved folder ?? And yes, the external drive is switched on and plugged in. Any suggestions?

When you change your iTunes/Preferences/Advanced to change thes "iTunes Music Folder" location, you are only telling iTunes where to put any FUTURE additions to your library. All current iTunes items are still accessed from their current locations. Since you deleted those files and iTunes is still looking in the old spot, it can not find them.
Try this. Copy the iTunes folder to the external drive. Now stick the iTunes Music folder you already copied over there back into the iTunes folder. Now open iTunes using these instructions...

  • Error while relocating ("filename" couldn't be moved to "Folder".) "(null)"

I am trying to relocate all my referenced files from my HD to a NAS.
For a number of images I get the error :
Error while relocating ("filename" couldn't be moved to "Folder".) "(null)"
I have been checking the Aperture Log and found things like:
Jan  5 22:03:37 big-mac.fritz.box Aperture[730]: could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate on destination file descriptor: Invalid argument: Invalid argument
    Jan  5 22:03:37 big-mac kernel[0]: Aperture[730] Unable to quarantine `/Volumes/imacjan/Pictures/Aperture_Ref_Files/Fotoos_Jan/2012/2012 Diversen/evelien.jpg': 22 (error suppressed)
Jan  5 22:03:37 big-mac.fritz.box Aperture[730]: could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms on destination file descriptor: Invalid argument: Invalid argument
Jan  5 22:03:37 big-mac.fritz.box Aperture[730]: error processing extended attributes: Invalid argument
From here I dived into the xattr "thing".
Apparently Mac OSX is setting extra attributes on files, besided the normal UNIX attributes.
So I opened a Terminal session and gave the command:
    xattr /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
    which resulted in:
    com.apple.FinderInfo
    com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate
    com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms
Then I did my normal :
    ls -l /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
    which resulted in :
    -rw-r--r--@ 1 imacjan  staff  39963 Dec 25  2011 /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced Files/Fotoos Jan/2012/2012 Diversen/evelien.jpg
Looked quite normal to me, accept for the "@". Apperently thay is the sign that there are extended attributes
    So then I gave:
    ls -l -@ /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
    Which resulted in:
    -rw-r--r--@ 1 imacjan  staff  39963 Dec 25  2011 /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced Files/Fotoos Jan/2012/2012 Diversen/evelien.jpg
              com.apple.FinderInfo             32
              com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate             53
              com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms            156
Quetion 1 : does anybody know where I can find what value 32 for com.apple.FinderInfo means ? And for the other extra attributes?
Next, I suspected the values of the extra attributes were preventing Aperture from relocating the imagel.
    So I proceeded with :
    xattr -c /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
I went back to Aperture and now the relocating went fine.
It seems that all the images that my Aperture cannot relocate, are images that I downloaded from internet (sometimes nicked from a Facebook page, sometimes otherwise) and then imported into Aperture.
I can manipulate them, I can export a version, I just cannot export the original file and thus I cannot reloctate them either.
Question 2 : Is this normal behavior, or is this a bug in Aperture and should I file a bugreport?
Question 3 : Is it save for me to use the "attr -c" command to clear all extra attributes?
    Thanks in advance
    Jan

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks.
My HD is a "normal" HD, so I guess it's HFS+. (According to Disk Utility it is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The NAS is WD MyBook Live Duo. I just plugged into my Time Machine.
I am relocating using Aperture "relocate originals for project" under the File tab.
Ahh, thanks for the answer to question 1.
Yes, I am trying to relocate them, but tried different things to find the problem.
And the problem seems to be that when an image gets an extra attribute (when it's downloaded from the internet, when it is comes from a mail message) then Aperture seems not to be able to move the file.
I.e. Aperture presumeably asks the Finder or kernel to perform this task, and this then fails because of the extra attirbutes that were set.
I now found a way of manually removing the extra attributes, but that is a pain.
    Think of this normal workflow:
    - someone sends me an email containing images
    - I move the images to my Desktop
    - I then import the images into Aperture
    - I then decide to relocate my images for that project to my NAS
Then is when this problem occurs.
So I just tried to relocate to another place on my HD.
    That works fine.
I looked again at the error message.
And it says "could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate on destination file descriptor" .
So, yes, it seems like it has to do with the NAS not supporting setting the extra attributes.
And as long as there are no extra attributes on an image, there is no problem.
(Not completely true, but I have another thread about that)
Thanks Frank, I have to digest this a bit.

  • Error Message - Moving a Folder

Please help! I just tried to move a folder from my portable hard drive to my MacBook Pro desktop. Therefore, I used the following key combination: "Command + C" and "Option + Command + V". For some reason an error message appears, and I am not able to continue the moving process. I attached the error message as a photo to this question. The Trash actually seems to be completely empty. Nothing seems to be in the trash, and I am not able to remove the error message. When I click "OK" nothing happens. Additional I still can not move the actual file to my MacBook Pro desktop.
Please let me know what to do. Thank you very much for your help.

You can try and find the locked items and unlock them.
Get info (CMD+i), under "General", there's a "locked" checkbox.
Copy and paste is an odd way to move files, but if it works. I'd still rather drag and drop. But maybe that's showing my age (that was not an option until recently).

  • Can only submit task to Custom destination. Caused by moved Users folder?

I recently installed my Final Cut Studio 2 on a new Mac Pro. We've installed the system with multiple users.
Everything works fine except Compressor. We were not able to submit any rendering tasks. After checking the batch monitor I noticed some errors being thrown. It looked like a permissions problem.
After creating a Custom Destination that points explicitly to some folder in the user's home folder, and using that as the default target destination, compressor submits without problems.
Is it possible that the problem is caused by moving the Users home folder to another disk? The system disk is 128Gb SSD. I didn't want my data files to be on that system disk, so I moved them to a RAID.
Any idea on how I can solve this?

If the RAID is connected directly to your workstation, you should be able to Ignore Ownership on that volume. (Look in the info window in the Finder)
It is recommended to use an external drive/RAID for scratch disks and exporting destinations.
