Moved my website and podcast xml - what to do with iTunes

Hello All
I really need some help.
I published two episodes of a podcast using Feeder some time back. Now I have moved my website and all its files over to a new server.
Since the move I have published another episode, which has uploaded OK, but iTunes still just shows the older episodes.
So far, I have edited the .xml in the old location with the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag and pinged it successfully, but things have remained the same.
It is weird, I am so technically minded, run my own tech website, but just cannot get this sorted.
Any help would be appreciated.

It will take a while for iTunes to update its own database, which is why it is important to leave your old feed up for a couple of weeks prior to completely disabling it.
Ping the feed does show your old feed url, however, when subscribing the iTunes client is picking up on the <itunes:new-feed-url> and updating its url (you can see it when choosing the option to show the description of the feed)...so your subscribers should be getting the new feed and content as well. Keep in mind that the iTunes database is just a matchmaker...it caches a copy of your xml to provide to first time subscribers so as to provide a starting point and the feed url...once they subscribe their iTunes client goes out and grabs the latest copy of your feed from the URL you provided to iTunes and subsequently the URL in the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag.
Bottom line...it's working, iTunes is just being a little slow on its own.

I used to be able to play music and podcasts in a single playlist (with iTunes DJ), but now can't seem to do this. Is there a way around this with iTunes 11?

You are freaken genius! Apple should update their instructions on how to give playlists, because the old way no longer works. And people tend to give gifts around this time of year. Anyway, mahalo niu loa (thank you very much)!

• Moved User Home Folder to External - What to do with iTunes settings?

I used these instructions to move my User Home Folder off Mac hard drive and onto an external hard drive http://mac.tutsplus.com/tutorials/os-x/relocate-your-home-folder-to-another-driv e-or-volume. Do I need to go into advanced settings of iTunes and change the location to the external or do I just keep the location the same as before the move via these instructions?

OK. The following should clear up your particular scenario. I strongly recommend you backup the whole iTunes folder to another drive first. When you're happy everything is tidy and working properly you can make a backup of the "clean" library before deleting the backup of the "duplicated" one.
In iTunes > Preferences > Advanced turn off both the Keep... & Copy... options.
Use File > Add Folder to Library... to add in the media folder, this ensures iTunes is connected to both copies of the files.
Create a new smart playlist with the rule Location is on this computer.
3a. Select the new smart playlist
Hold down Option and then click View > Display Exact Duplicate items.
Sort the list by Date Added
Select everything that you've just added with today's date, then press Option-Delete to remove from the library, send to the trash when asked
Use View > Show All Items and then Option > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to reveal any remaining duplicates.
If needed, sort by Name and keep one of each repeat group, using Option-Delete to remove any dupes
In iTunes > Preferences > Advanced turn on both the Keep... & Copy... options to clean up all the trailing " 1"s

• Can anyone tell me the difference between the rss.xml and podcast.xml?

I have the Podcast maker program. Can anyone tell me the difference between the rss.xml and podcast.xml? How do they differ? What do I use each of them for? Where should I put them in my directory?

Podcast Maker sets up your podcast from media files you enter into it; you enter the summary and description. It then publishes to your iDisk or other server, and in the process created the podcast.xml file which you can submit to iTunes.
It doesn't create an rss.xml file: it sounds as if you are also creating the podcast in iWeb, which does. This has the advantage of creating a web page; it will also create the rss.xml file.
Both are valid - of course if there are any differences between the version in Podcast Maker and the version in iWeb then the xml files will be different. But basically you seem to be creating two versions of the same podcast - if you are making it in iWeb then the Podcast maker version is really redundant (though I prefer it for podcast creation). If you want to go on using both I should use the podcast.xml feed it creates.

The startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the disk needs repairing, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.

• I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down???

I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down or what? I need to download some things and update some apps...

I've been getting the same message for like an hour now. Since everything was working fine a few hours ago, and nothing changed on my end before it stopped working, I'm guessing it's something on Apple's end. They probably already know about it by now, and are hopefully working on fixing it, so there's probably not much we can do but wait for them to fix it.

• How to manage Music Videos and Podcasts of my iPod manually in iTune?

Can anyone tell me how to manage Music Videos and Podcasts of my iPod manually in iTune? Because I can't see the Music Videos and the Podcast section in iTune under Device when my iPod is connected to my computer. Thanks

iTunes doesn't have a separate *Music Videos* section. In iTunes these are just part of the main Music library. To manually drag a music video to yout iPod drag it onto the iPod or a compatible playlist. To remove, look for it in Music on the iPod and delete.
I think podcasts only work properly when placed on the iPod via the sync tabs. If you manually drag and drop then the files may get treated as general audio & video files.

• Hello. After updating my Ipad2 to Ios5 Ive missed some Apps( pages and numbers). What's wrong with my device? Thanx

Hello. After updating my Ipad2 to Ios5 Ive missed some Apps( pages and numbers). What's wrong with my device? Thanx

Were the apps on your computer's iTunes when you started the update process ?
As long as the apps are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . If you download them to your computer's iTunes you could then try restoring to your backup and see if that restores them and their settings/content - a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings, so for the restore to work fully iTunes needs access to the apps so that it can restore them.

• I have apparently wiped out my iPhone 4 contacts list, my apps, and my photos, etc. by syncing with iTunes. Is there any way to restore what I had?

I have apparently wiped out my iPhone 4 contacts list, my apps, and my photos when I synced with iTunes. Maybe I clicked the wrong button, but I just wanted to download the photos from my phone to my computer. Is there any way to restore my previous information?

Did you sync to itunes from a different computer than the one you normally sync to?
syncing to itunes doesn't just wipe out all your data.
If you have a backup of your phone you can restore to that backup.

• What is wrong with itunes. it says itunes store is not available. try back later.

iTunes in Windows is difficult to uninstall.
I found this for you in an older thread (read carefully before you start):

Resolution
Note that the following procedure involves a registry edit. Back up your registry prior to proceeding.
(1) Do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related software components as per the instructions in the following document (but do not attempt to reinstall iTunes just yet):
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
(2) Launch Regedit as an administrator. In your Start Search field, type regedit. Right-click on the Regedit entry that comes up and select "Run as administrator" as per the following screenshot:
(3) In the left-hand pane of Regedit, click the triangle next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to expand its contents.
(4) Expand the contents of SOFTWARE
(5) Expand the contents of Microsoft
(6) Expand the contents of Windows
(7) Expand the contents of CurrentVersion
(8) Expand the contents of Installer
(9) Expand the contents of UserData
(10) Expand the contents of S-1-5-18
(11) Right-click on Components and select "Permissions" as per the following screenshot:
(12) In the "Permissions for Components" screen that comes up, click the Advanced button:
(13) In the "Advanced Security Settings for Components" screen that comes up, click the "Owner" tab.
(14) In the "Owner" tab, check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects tickbox, select "Administrators" and click Apply:
(14a) If (after clicking Apply) you receive a "Registry Editor could not set owner on the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys" message, click OK:
(15) Click OK in the "Advanced Security Settings for Components" screen.
(16) Click OK in the "Permissions for Components" screen.
(17) Quit out of Regedit.
(18) Try installing iTunes using the latest version of the iTunes installer downloaded from the Apple website:

• Podcast List view not updated with iTunes 11.3.1.2

Podcast List view not updated with iTunes 11.3.1.2
Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1 / Intel-i7 2.40 GHz / 8GB RAM / 64-bit
iTunes 11.3.1.2
After refreshing my Podcast list, some Podcasts with new episodes do not display the "Unplayed" blue dot.
If the podcast "folder" is expanded by clicking the triangle, the new episodes are shown with a "Unplayed" blue dot.
A new episode is shown in the My Podcast view, with the correct number of new episodes.
The new episodes are displayed in the All Unplayed view.
I've tried deleting all episodes and downloading new episodes from the iTunes Store.
I've tried Unsubscribing and deleting the podcast, then Subscribing again from the iTunes Store.
Neither attempt resolved the issue.
I've seen this issue for a while, and was disappointed to find no change with the iTunes 11.3.1.2 update.

it finally worked; got my Rush 24/7 downloaded, and it finally found my iPhone after switching from the USB 4 port Hub to a dedicated USB 2.0 slot on my laptop.

• HT1386 I'm overseas and need to sync my iphone with itunes but I don't have my computer. How can I sync it to my friends computer without losing my music and data?

I'm overseas and need to sync my iphone with itunes but I don't have my computer. How can I sync it to my friends computer without losing my music and data?

Why do you need to sync your iPhone with iTunes - for what purpose?
You can transfer iTunes content and photos from one computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first with a warning message provided beforehand indicating this will occur.

• What's up with iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit? Makes my PC run like a 286 on Windows 3.11.

What's up with iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit? So slow and draggy. Makes my high end PC with multi-core processor and video card run like a 286. Even did this after doing a fresh install of the operating system with the latest version of iTunes.
No other software does this on my machine. There has to be some crazy issue causing this.

Try this,
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
