MOVED: Overclocking Mpower Max Z87 i7 4770k Help

Here you go. New UEFI/BIOS version seems to have improved what can be achieved on pure Auto settings. It was stable all the way to 45X on Auto, but no significant performance benefit was noted.
Next 2 images, idle, and the second one is the full load test running IBT.
Next is IBT at 43X and then 47X. Note the slight decline in performance.
43X and 2666 is definately ideal with this particular setup. During the IBT test, one core did go a bit past the recommended 72C maximum, but for regular real world stress, it's doubtful it will ever get that hot under sustained load. All of those fancy settings this particular board has with this CPU exemplar in my opinion, for the most part, are pretty much useless using conventional cooling solutions.
Added: Just played some AC III and Metro 2034 with no problems. All seems very stable. Too bad I can't keep it.

Overclocking Mpower Max Z87 i7 4770k Help
I can only hit 4.3 Ghz with 1.248vcore.. gets hot too.. lower to mid 80s on full load prime 95 with kraken x60. Temps got noticeably hotter with new bios 1.6 actually. I even cleaned off the old paste and used noctua nht-1 just in case it was the paste but it wasn't. Weird.
My chip is a Malaysia Batch L315 =(
This sucks.. Anyone with better success with same batch? or maybe some helpful tips?

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172963.0What is the S/N of the 760?
We will need to update the Vbios for GOP support most likely.
The most recent MPOWER bios I just posted here as well. >>BIOSes<< -
Since yesterday i have the following problem with my pc.
i'm using a gigabyte gtx780 windforce 3x oc als peg and for now its not working anymore. if i am turning on the computer only the fans are working and video display is only possible through the igd, even when its deactivated in bios. all other components seem to work normal, but led debug code ist showing 04 which means "power on southbridge initialization".
so i changed the gtx 780 to my old msi gtx570 twin frozr III and everything seems to work normal for now, but if i am looking into the device manager there's an exclamation mark indicating that the msi mpower max z87 isn't recognized properly and only shown as unknown device.
so, what does that mean? is there a problem with the psu, mb or the gtx780
my system specs are:
Core i7 4770k
MSI Mpower Max Z87 Bios V.1.2
Gigabyte Geforce GTX780 Windforce 3x OC
16 GB Corsair Vengeance 2133 Mhz
Corsair HX850
Windows 8 Pro x64
Edit: The exclamation mark problem disappeared after installing the intel smart connect utility.Quote from: flobelix on 26-July-13, 18:08:12
Reseat the cpu and check socket for bent pins. If none to be found uninstall current vga driver in safemode using >>Driver Fusion<<. After reboot with the GTX570 install latest Nvidia driver (no beta!).
reseated cpu and found some bent pins. rebent them with precision tools, and for now, everything, even the gtx780, seems to work normal. will try some decent oc to check if there are any problems left because of the bent cpu pins. -
Hi!
I bought MSI Mpower Max Z87 with I7-4790K. Is It i7-4790k work out the box on a Z87 board?
My Rig is:
MSI Mpower Max Z87
I7 - 4790K
Watercooler Corsair H100i
MSI gtx 770 4gb oc
Corsair dominator platinum 16gb 2400mhz
PSU Corsair AXi 1200i
I finished the assembly, but when I start my computer stay on but not send signal for monitor.
I don't know if is a problem from bios or videocard.
Does anybody can help me?
Best Regards,
JLuisYou just updated bios but without a proper ME update (done with correct fpt flash) that is useless. I prepared an appropiate archive for you. Follow the below exactly:
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7815IMS_190.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip -
Z87 mpower max and intel 4770k
hi everyone may i know is it worth to enable the oc geniune for my z87 mpower max motherboard? is there any effects if i enable? (motherboard dies faster or something?)
awaiting for your reply.Overclocking entails essentially to increase the CPU core clock above those that the manufacturer designed it for.
This process entails increasing nominal values which are in essence controls that are part and parcel of the motherboard. After all the motherboard is designed and built in accordance with the CPU manufacturers control specifications. Oc'ing also entails increasing memory speeds beyond the JEDEC standard. Components of the board also have to apply higher values to support the higher power demands of an overclocked CPU. i.e. the Mosfets amongst others.
The OC Genie is a "one stop" method that does it for you (works most of the time) and it takes due consideration of the max design values. In theory it should not affect the durability of the components. In reality it may. You could compare it to a car's engine. The manufacturer has a red line limitation for the engine RPM. Running at or just below the red line should thus be OK. It will probably last a reasonable time if operated that way, but logic tells me that it probably wont last as long as the sam engine being used within its maximum power and torque curve.
The question is, how long do you want your PC to last? With the ever new technology being released, the general user probably renews his PC every 3 to 5 years. So its a matter of deciding if you are prepared to take the risk and hope it lasts for the envisaged lifespan. -
MSI MPOWER MAX Z87 - RAID failure after BIOS update (settings reset)
I use the integrated intel RAID controller to create a 2 disk RAID-0 6TB (2x3TB), but everytime I update the BIOS, there is a RAID failure.
It does not matter if I use Live Update or the Update BIOS+ME option of the BIOS menu. All settings are lost, and after the boot the RAID controller is deactivated due to that. I go to BIOS right after the auto-reboot and re-enter my settings (RAID instead of AHCI), but the intel controller only sees 1 disk as a RAID member. Recovery option is not active when I enter the controller options (control+I). I always need to delete and recreate the RAID, which of course loses all data.
Very frustrating!
Am I doing the update wrong? I know I did it once and settings were not reset, my RAID was kept intact, but I believe it was only 1 time of 4 or 5 updates I did to my MPOWER MAX.Hi, thanks for trying to help!
- I use Windows 8.1.
- My vga does not support UEFI so I use... legacy mode? (I'm not that familiar with BIOS->UEFI yet, sorry.)
- According to Intel RST, the RAID HDDs are on ports 2 and 3.
- This time the update was from 1.80 to 1.90.
1.70 to 1.80 also resulted in the same problem, but I used LiveUpdate.
For previous updates, I don't remember but I sometimes I used LiveUpdate, sometimes the BIOS feature.
I'm pretty sure that only once the RAID was kept intact, and I don't remember the versions or method I used, but I believe I used the BIOS method (don't know if needed BIOS+ME or not), not LiveUpdate. -

hi all,
i'm new in the field of overclocking and have just received my new rig, currently i'm wondering a couple of things:
-firstly im currently at a multiplier of 43x and a core voltage of 1.2 the only other thing i changed was that i turned off the xmp option
can someone give me an idea of a next step? my highest temperature during a AIDA64 test is 77 degrees celsius.
-secondly, can someone give me an opinion on the quality of my chip? i'm reading all kinds of articles on good chips that need low voltages to run high clocks and i'm wondering if someone can give me an estimate on where i stand in the food chain?
thanks in advance! Here you go. New UEFI/BIOS version seems to have improved what can be achieved on pure Auto settings. It was stable all the way to 45X on Auto, but no significant performance benefit was noted.

Z87 MPOWER MAX - A Hobbyist's Perspective
First impressions are how well built this board really is. PCB is thick and sturdy, heavy duty top to bottom, side to side. The mainboard looks to be able to handle anything that can be tossed at it, but the biggest problem is the heat the CPU generates. That's not the board's fault. Zalman CNPS9900B-Max is used, and it does a great job considering the circumstances.
As with any review, benchmarks and results may not be the same as what others may experience. Graphics cards used are middle of the road, but they did ok. Was too lazy to pull a GTX 680 to test with.
Test configuration;

Z87 MPower Max Command Center Hang on Start
Yes, yet another thread on this issue. My situation is slightly different than the other threads.
System
MSI MPower Max Z87 motherboard
i7-4770k
32GB G Skill 2400 RAM
Intel 335 Series 180GB SSD
2X BFG 260 GTX graphics cards in SLI
Windows 7 Professional x64
BIOS V1.3
Background
I assembled my system this past Saturday. I installed the latest drivers from the MSI web site and ran the auto update application which updated a few drivers that appear to not be available for download directly from the site. I also installed all the 250+ latest updates for Windows 7.
After installing and updating the drivers, OS and MSI applications Command Center worked. I even used the OC Genie in Command Center just to give it a try. I turned the OC Genie off, restarted then decided to play around with the RAM disk. This is when things started to go wrong.
At first, the RAM disk worked great. I got incredible performance using a 16 GB RAM disk when I loaded games on it. I set a backup file for the RAM disk and for it to backup during shutdown and every 30 minutes. The next time I restarted I noticed that the software that I set to auto-load to the RAM disk was not there. Command Center failed to start so I could not change any of the settings. I rebooted a couple times to try to get into Command Center and could not get back in. The RAM disk was still being set at boot so half of my RAM was used by the RAM disk whether I wanted it or not. I uninstalled Command Center to get rid of the RAM disk. That worked as the RAM disk was gone when I rebooted. I reinstalled Command Center but it still fails to start.
I am guessing that there must be some registry entries that are causing Command Center to hang. It does not make any sense that a new installation of Command Center should hang when the previous version was working.
Are there any registry changes that I need to find to "fix" this problem? No luck with the reinstall. Looks like it might be .NET related. I have a feeling that a recent .NET patch might have broken something.
