MOVED: P6N Diamond Overclock Help

Brinbane,,my e6750 runs all day at 3600mhz.  However, I have learned from experience that every CPU is different, I had a 630 that overclocked better than a 670 CPU...it's a crap shoot at best.   Also, just wondering if Vista is less tolerant than WinXP for overclocking?  I have CPU-Zd to 3800, but it's not stable due to my budget memory.  The 680 boards have always been decent overclockers, but an Intel board will almost always reach higher bus speeds than a Nvidia board....but, we do have SLI..!!     If Intel ever comes out with the Skulltrail board, I'd buy it..two processors (ala server board) and Nvidia 100 chipsets for SLI..woohoo.!!

    Bomberh,
My bad...was thinking of the P6N Diamond..the P7N Diamond does NOT have the VTT option in Cell Menu.  Just for info, I had .500 volts on my e6750 on stock air cooling and it posted 3600mhz and the CPU temp in bios never exceeded 32 deg C.  So, what you have to do is raise the voltage to the CPU to give it a little "oomphh" to get into post and the OS.  Your Arctic cooler should be able to handle it..try 1333, increase voltage in cell menu to .375 and see what happens?  Up to .500 volts with a good air cooler w/adequate heat paste should be quite safe.  You should always stop in bios to check the Hardware Monitor and record what the CPU and System temps are when O/Cing...if you see a steadily increasing temperature you will have plenty of time to pull the plug..lol.  Keep us posted.  Like Aaron said..it's all about trial and error.

    Clear cmos.
Enter bios and load optimised defaults.
    Exit.
Re-enter bios and change user settings to your liking; ensure usb stuff is enabled.
    Save and exit.
    Shutdown and change keyboards.
    Report back.
I tried what you mentioned above several times and sometimes boot up would work without the PS2 keyboard, sometimes it would not. Clearing the CMOS never worked on this board. I pressed the clear CMOS button (with power cable disconnected) and it did nothing. I also upgraded to the 1.2 bios and that seemed to reduce the frequency of the "overclocking has failed" bootup failures, but it was still present. Also, with the 1.2 bios, I seemed to have more bootup hangs (raid, etc.) once I did get through the initial posting process.
    Power Supply Specs:
Antec Truepower 2.0 (480 Watt) - Haven't had an issue with thie PSU in my previous SLI setup.
    +5: 38A
    +12(1): 18A
    +12(2): 18A
    +3.3A: 30A
    -12: 1.0A
    +5: 2.0A
But at this point, it is a lost cause because the board is now toast (where is the PB and J!!!!). I left the PS2 keyboard connected, installed windows, installed some testing software, and did some performance checking, heard a "sizzling" sound from around the capacitors between the cpu socket and the rear board connetors, a quick burnt electrical smell, and the system powered off. Now the board won't power on. I checked the CPU, memory and cards and thankfully they are ok. So it appears the board is toast. I have already requested an RMA.
The first board I got was DOA, and now this board had issues from the first time I powered it on. It just seems like the K9N Diamond boards have some serious quality issues. I read the NewEgg reviews for this board and there are quite a few reviewers having DOA/posting type issues.

    hey,
I noticed this in your sig...."Custom liquid cooling driven by Apogee Drive Block/Pump, Coolit System CPU Eliminator Mod/Tecs and pump, TT T2MG Radiator"
I have a coolit eliminator that I plan on ripping apart fairly soon....from reading your sig and looking at your avatar it seems you have almost an identical cooling setup to what I'm about to do
few questions I have for ya:
    -what pump are you using?
-what kind of temps do you get with it?
-do you have some more pictures?
-my eliminator is still installed on my current system(squeals like a pig all day long tho) so I haven't had a chance to really examine it closely,Do they come apart fairly easy and will I need any rare screwdrivers or tools? (eg.like Nintendo Wiis tri-wing screws)
I'm thinkin of getting another eliminator (my friend has 1 w/ a broken pump he might sell me real cheap) and plumbing them both together than adding a rad and reservoir with a more powerful pump.
    nice system
edit:I don't mean to hijack your thread (I thought I PMed this lol)...pm me back if ya prefer
Thanks for not wanting to even though did Jack me just the same .
Please respond only to the with overclocking suggestions if you don't have a MSI P45 Diamond and if you do please share your settings in the afore mentioned format.
youeffsee, I would be more than glad to share info and pic's.  Please pm me because I don't appear to have those privileges yet or too unfamiliar with site and haven't fiqured out how to.

alright ill try the FSB VTT Voltage but i have no idea what the safe zones or signals that it needs to be higher are.  Sorry, ive done overclocking before but ive never had to pump up the voltage of my FSB so im a bit nervous. should i try one notch and then check for stability then try again?
once i get some stability like say an hour or two of orthos, how will i know if an error or hard lock is because it needs more FSB VTT or if it needs CPU voltage?
(edit) i have a zalman cpu cooler (thought i said that in op) dont remember the model, its huge, its copper and has a 110mm fan. its freaking enormous, i cant imagine a larger cpu cooler fitting in a mid tower.

     "5.2ghz"
No way will you get that speed with any AMD CPU, it just 'ain't gonna happen. Even with Intel which OC higher than AMD you need dry ice , phase change and other such exotic cooling solutions to get over 5GHz.
What do you have other than a motherboard? How do you expect any help if that's the only information you provide?

Do you have Real Temp & CPU-Z utilities? Real Temp will have the VID of your CPU. CPU-Z will show your CPU voltage & other useful info. When running stock, what does CPU-Z say the CPU Volts are? In bios Cell Menu, CPU V. is in increments of added voltage, as an example, if your CPU is at 1.24, & you want 1.36, change the Cell Menu CPU V. setting to +0.12.
SPP = 1.4 (This looks like a NB V. setting)
MCP = 1.55 (This looks like a SB V. setting)
In 'Advanced Bios Features' - 'Chipset Features', disable HPET. In bios 'Cell Menu', 'System Clock Mode' - 'Manual' (set desired settings accordingly) , 'D.O.T.' - disable, 'Spread Spectrum' - disable.
Use the Forum Search Button on P7N2 threads if you haven't yet. There should be some useful info that will help.

    Inside,
I had similar issues when I first installed Vista and I don't think it installed correctly as it is...
One thing I noticed was that the Memory in particular is undervolted with this board if the bios is set to auto. Make sure you manually set the voltage to your RAM manufacturers voltage. Do the same thing with the timings and speed...
I had everything set to auto at first and I couldn't even get Vista to unpack 100% until I manually set things...
I need to reinstall windows I think because my installation is still messed up as I didn't change the timings until I started getting BSOD on first boot... Try it let us know if it works.

Replace all normal capacitors with Solid ones...
Change the power layout for a more stable output
Replace the bios chip and configuration with one from a Asus P5B
Now you officially own an MSI P5B
    Happy soldering
No, really, until MSI can put out a decent BIOS for your board, there isn't much you can do my friend

Well I used these settings I found on another forum and it wouldn't even post:
    BCLK: 125
    Multiplier: 37
Memory is set to 1666Mhz with 9-9-9-27
    Vcore: 1.36v
    VTT CPU Voltage: 1.125v
    Second VTTCPU: Auto
    CPUVCCSA Voltage: Auto
DRAM Voltage on both Channels: 1.5
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.81250
    CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled
Tried backing down the multiplier a few but still no luck
While it may seem that if it works for one set, that is not always the case. A simple duplication will not always yield the desired result. Why dont you try leaving the blck at 100 and the blck strap at Auto 1st, set your RAM to its rated speed and enable XMP. Also 1.36v should be more than sufficient for 4.625Mhz, however, every chip is different and you may just need more. You need to provide more details as HU16E stated though there are still too many settings that you may have changed that are hindering your results.

Good question....the Northbridge fan is mainly used for those using watercooling on the CPU.  If you're using the stock or aftermarket air cooler on the CPU...the displaced air from the CPU fan is sufficient to cool the Northbridge heat sink.  For those who dont like the loud NB fan...simply replace it with a standard 40mm cooling fan with a lower speed or decibel rating.  As far as SLI is concerned, running SLI should only increase your case temperature a tad due to the extra card generating heat, if you have a decent case fan, you wont even detect any difference.

    Hi,
I have all of my ram slots filled (4x1gb corsair dominator), the memory runs ok with a clock speed of 800mhz, as long as the timings are set to auto and the voltage is 2.05 - 2.1, with these settings the memory runs fine upto a clock speed of 866mhz, anything above the 866mhz starts to give me errors. Even though they pass memory test programs, if I am running games like Supreme Commander and try to save after a few hours of play and a large number of units etc. the PC will BSOD.
What is strange is that if u set the ram at 800mhz, sometimes the post screen registers different values (i.e. on some boots I will get 797mhz etc). Other than that it ran ok with a 800mhz clock speed.
