I have the same problem with XFX HD5770 XT 1 GB on my P965 Platinum mainboard. I have tried 1.8 bios and 1.93b with no result.
I have contacted the support and hope for a new bios update. That must be the problem ?

And here is the answer from MSI Costumer Service:
    Dear Daniel Granér,
Thanks for contacting msi technical support team! Regarding your issue, this mainboard doesn't support ATI 5770 card. So please change other VGA card to use.

  • P965 Platinum memory latency settings problem

When I overclock the FSB of my P965 Platinum with C2D E6400, I get problems with the memory latecy settings. My memory is specified as 667MHz 5-5-5-15 2T, but when I enter these latencies in the bios, CPU-Z and Sandra both say I have 3-5-5-15 1T. Which is of course out of spec and gives system instability unless I raise the memory voltage quite a bit above spec.
So does anyone have an idea why this might be? Is it a bug of the bios (ver 1.3) or are CPU-Z and Sandra both mis-reporting the value? In the latter case, why can I get rid of the instability by raising ram voltage??
    Thanks for any help
    /Mattias
PS The disable speedspep switch in the bios dosn't seem to have any effect. The multiplier still switches down from 8 to 6 when the CPU is idle. Anyone elso who has the same problem?

The CAS Latency issue is known and it is possibly being addressed by MSI technicians. Please refer to this thread, CAS Latency is in the list of desired fixes for a new BIOS release. For the time being, switch memory timing to SPD instead of Manual in your BIOS and it should be set to CAS Latency 5...
Memory voltage: at certain settings memory chips require a certain amount of power. The default voltage for DDR2 is 1.9v, so in other words DDR2-667 5-5-5-15 is the best your memory chips can do at the default DDR2 voltage, that's why your memory is rated as it is. Raising the voltage enables you to run above rated speed, you simply let the memory chips use more power. There are limits of course...
Disable Speedstep: please refer to this thread, should help you disable Speedstep.

  • P965 Platinum, memory support

I was looking at the manual of the MSI P965 Platinum (pdf from the MSI website) and I noticed this memory speed support table:
Does this mean I can't use PC2-4200 (DDR2-533) in this board in combination with a Core 2 Duo (FSB 1066)?
Also, is this a chipset limitation or one of the motherboard?  I looked at the P965 datasheet and I didn't find anything that seemed to cause this limitation, but I'm not experienced enough in these matters to rule anything out...

In MSI P965 Platinum User Manual written:
    Quote
    - 4 DDRII DIMMs (DDRII 800 supports up to 4 GB, DDRII 667/ 533
    support up to 8 GB, 240pin / 1.8V)
Why MSI P965 Platinum is supporting only 4 GB RAM if you use DDRII 800 memory?
MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition supports up to 8 GB RAM if you use DDRII 800 memory. Compare

  • P965 Platinum - memory troubles

I completed the following system over the weekend:
    P965 Platinum w/ 1.2 BIOS
    Core 2 Duo E6400
    Corsair Twin 2GB 800MHz 4-4-4-12
    Rosewill 550w PSU
    eVGA 7600GT
I checked the BIOS and verified that the memory is recognized as 800MHz.  However, it is currently running at 5-5-5-18 timings at 1.9v.  I am able to change the timings to 4-4-4-12, but then the system does not boot (stuck on extended memory test).
I checked with Corsair, and their documentation states that the 4-4-4-12 timings are achieved at 2.1v.  Unfortunately, the BIOS will not allow me to change the memory voltage.  The number is grayed out.
How can I fix this?  I installed Duo Core Center to try to adjust it from there, but it will not run...I get the "This application has caused an error and must be closed..." message when I try to start it.  I reinstalled it with the same problem both times.

First of all, Run a memtest86 session for each memory stick seperately , one of the sticks may be broken ... you never know...
Quote from: EricT on 20-December-06, 11:08:30
OK, I adjusted the voltage to 2.1v.  Then I disabled SPD and set the timings to 4-4-4-12.  I rebooted, and it crashed while loading windows.
Try a little more voltage if the bios allows you to, 2.2 or 2.3Volt - It IS a budget motherboard, and budget boards tend to give less real voltage then what you selected.
Quote from: EricT on 20-December-06, 11:08:30
I went back to the BIOS and enabled SPD, leaving the voltage at 2.1V, and CPU-Z is showing the timings as 5-5-5-18 like before.  Frequency 400MHz, 2:3 ratio.  It is also reporting Channels # Single.  This should be dual-channel memory right?
The SPD tab in CPU-Z tells me that each module has 400 MHz frequency with timings 4-4-4-12.  Now I'm confused.
Might have something to do with having both sticks in single channel - Since there are 2 memory sticks in one channel it might automatically loosen timings for that channel...
Quote from: EricT on 20-December-06, 11:08:30
Another thing, if I put modules in slots 1 and 3, the system hangs at memory initialization.  I can only get it to run if I use slots 1 and 2.  I believe this is why I'm in single channel mode?
    Yes...
Quote from: EricT on 20-December-06, 11:08:30
Can someone help me get this memory running optimally?  I spent the extra money to get CAS 4 memory, but apparently I am not getting that performance.
Core 2 Does not really benefit all that much from tight timings, you are confusing with athlon64 wich like tight timings ...
http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=472 This article shows that core2 does not really benefit a lot from expensive high end memory.

  • MSI P965 Platinum networking issues

Hi there. I'm having a really annoying issue with my dsl connection. It started 2 months ago and I didn't find a solution yet. 4 months ago I've built a new pc with vista ultimate 64bit. 2-3 weeks later on, this strange problem with my internet connection came up. Even thought I was currently connected, I couldn't access the internet at all. In the 'network & sharing centre there were 2 networks: Local Area Connection & Unidentified Network. At the begining, by disabling my connection and enabling it again the problem was resolved. But later on, having this problem again and again, disabling and enabling the connection didn't work. I also switched off the dsl modem but it didn't work either. I even unistalled/reinstalled & updated my ethernet card drivers but with no luck. So the only way to get my connection working was to format and do a fresh installation of vista. I'm suspecting the realtek ethernet. I'm still having this issue and I really can't affort of doing another format. A friend of mine has the same mobo and vista ultimate 64bit but he never had such a problem. Any suggestions?
    My computer specs:
    Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit
MSI P965 Platinum (ethernet card: realtek)
    Intel Core 2 duo E6700
    MSI 8800GTX OC Edition
    2gb DDR2-800mhz Super Talent
    Corsair 620W SLI Ready
    adsl modem b-focus

I think this is due to configurations of your modem and your network card.
You can give your friend a trial with your DSL modem and see if the problem exist.

Please read this topic. It's a bunch of info, but it will tell you a lot about this board. Your DRAM is not the issue at hand, BIOS 1.2 is. Flash 1.51 beta to overclock stable. CAS Latency 4 is not an option in the current BIOS versions, it gets set to 3. So for the time being it's either CAS 5 or CAS 3.

  • P45 Platinum memory issue(s)

I've experienced some trouble getting my Corsair DOMINATOR TWIN2X-2048-8500C5DF G ver 1.1 memory modules to work as intended, ie at 1066 MHz
(PCB ver 1.1 , E8400 at stock speed)
BIOS ver 1.0 would not POST correctly, hanging at "Memory detection Test"
After reading alot in Phily7 thread (same issues), I decided to try BIOS ver 1.1b5
Some improvements. POST is now ok, and no need to manually reset CMOS everytime I've fiddled with the memory settings
Tried DRAM voltages up to 2.196 Volts, but still the MB only recognises and threat them as 800MHz (Corairs home page says ver 1.X @2.2V, ver 2.X @2.1V)
Tried to adjust the FSB/DRAM to 1333/1066, which causes the MB to reset itself until it says "The previous performance..."
Tried by advice of "Jack the Newbie" to adjust memory timings to 5-5-5-18, Spread Spectrum disable and tRFC=53, which also ended up with " The previous.."
    Everest (trial version 4.5) read memory timings to @ 400 MHz   5-5-5-18  (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 23-51-3-6-3-3  (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)
    Any suggestion would be appricited?
    (Sorry for rusty english...)

Yup, the thread was about getting all 4 memory modules up to 1066.
    I'm now running 4Gigs(2*2) of Corsair DOMINATOR 6400CL4 at 2.1V - flawlessly :-)
The 8500 modules are on hold until a new BIOS is aviable, I don't wanne waste anymore time trying to make them work for now.
    Thanx for all replies

  • 965 Platinum - Memory issues

For some strangely odd reason my 965 platinum board does not read memory placed in dimm slots 1 and 2, but only reads memory in slots 3 /4
    Non oc'd
I originally used  G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory  which worked fine since Friday in slots 1 and 3 then out of the blue my computer just decided to not boot anymore.  After trouble shooting every component inside the CPU in another system, It seems that the memory has failed.  So I purchase a cheap 1g kingston ddr2 533 stick to be sure.  I have the same problems trying to boot with the memory in dimm slots 1 and 2 but the kingston stick boots when in slots 3 and 4.
Is it possible that 2 memory slots could be damaged on my motherboard without effecting the others?
Since I Rma'd the g.skill memory when the new sticks come in could they work in slots 3/4?
Why won't the 1g kingston stick work in slots 1/2?
How can I troubleshoot possible dmg dimm slot?
    My system specs are:
    650w Antec trio
    e6600 - stock cooling
    Geforce 7600gt
    thermaltake soprano case
    3x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320g - Raid 0
    G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
    MSI P965 platinum

Well, the only way to test is to get 2 sets of different RAMs to test out slot 1 and 2. If both RAMs are not detected, then I would recommend to RMA the board.
The damages may be due to shortings within the board. I would suggest that you check the contacts between the board and the chassis, especially the standoffs.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum Memory Issues

I have two Super Talent 512 DDR PC3200/400MHZ Memory Modules and attempting to use them as dual channel. I am getting some funny behaviour however. In windows mode, whenever I try to do something memory intensive the machine crashes and reboots. Normally I would say that this is an issue with a bad chip, run memtest86 and determine which chip is bad. Well the results are a bit strange. When ever I run memtest with both modules in either banks 0 and 1 or 2 and 3 (dual channel configuration) I get memory errors. I then test each module separately in bank 1 and get no errors. Do I have a setting wrong somewhere? Could this possibly be incompatible ram?
Can someone please enlighten me as to why this might be happening? If its a settings issue it would be helpful to know where and how I should set this. If it is a compatibility issue it would be very helpful to know what brands of memory people have used successfully for dual channel so that I don't get stuck with this problem again.
Thank you very much for any assistance anyone can offer.
    Channon

Did you purchase the RAM from a 'chain' retailer? - like Best Buy or Circuit City, etc.?  If so it is most likely dual-channel RAM.  Now if you got them from your local 'junk peddler dealer' (that's what I call them) and the RAM chips were not sealed in a manufacturer's package, with their name on it, then you may have gotten screwed.
You can try installing one stick in slot 1 and the other in slot 3.  That should set the system to single-channel mode.  See if it runs okay and then run Memtest again.  If the test passes then you've got yourself a set of 'fake' dual DDR. :(
If you got them at Best Buy (or whatever) that is a large store with a good replacement policy, you should have no trouble exchanging the RAM for a new set... and MAKE SURE THE PACKAGE SAYS DUAL-CHANNEL.
Now on the other hand... if they came from a local computer shop, take them back to where you got them, shove them in the guy's face... tell him he's a liar and will replace your RAM with the correct sticks.  If he refuses you can always shove each chip into his eye sockets to get your revenge.

I would really appreciate it if someone got an answer to this.
Otherwise, if it cant be fixed, id rather change the mainboard then sell the memory I bought, I have never had so much trouble with memory on a board at all.
Also, I would like to get a confirm that BIOS 07.00T is the latest one. At least it says I got that version in dxdiag. I used the MSI Live Update 3 and it said I have the latest Bios.
I am also trying to get memtest to work but I cant actually. I dont know why, tried to download from http://www.memtest.org/ but when it comes to extracting the files it just gives me a folder in which a new zip. file is... when trying to extract that one it gives me an empty folder. I am not very good at these things but I guess I need to boot my comp up with it somehow.
    Thanks for any replies

Alright, I got the rest of my stuff listed. I don't think there's anything wrong with the memory because it's perfectly fine running at 800mhz when the FSB is 400, and I tested it not too long ago when building the system for my q6600. As for the slots, I have tried slots 1&3, slots 2&4, and all slots full with roughly the same results.
Now that I think about it, it's more likely the board causing me to FAIL than the memory itself. There's no reason the memory should have problems running at 800 or below regardless of what I have the FSB set at. I did stumble across a post saying that this board doesn't like memory not on the compatibility list when overclocking, and I don't think the patriot is on the list. Any ideas on if corsair dominator could run on this board at its rated 1066 speed? Also, do you still think I should update from the p04 bios?

I dont' know what people say but one thing is clear: MSI 965 Platinum is JUNK!!
The only cpu which could be clocked is p4 3Ghz. I've clocked it to 3800, bios ver 1.4
with bios 1.5 1.6 system reset at 3500.  1.7 was ok again.
Next cpu E2140 cloked from 1600 to 2144+corecell=>2270. note that sistem won't boot if fsb higher than 268 in bios (ver 1.5 1.6 1.7 1.8) but could be clocked if DOT activated.
Next cpu E6750 clocked from 2.66 to 2.98  FSB 366. with fsb higher than 370 sistem reset, also with DOT i see higher instability.
OT: i read on this forum that MSI told us that this board is for gamers/not overcloking ))))
well then, why the F*** put PLATINUM? it's the same S*** like NEO but 60E more..for what?
So my friends, i ordered an ASUS(i don't like brand but i like quality), i'm sad 'cause i've used MSI since 815E but now even P35 Platinum with rev1.1 is not more than a BULK, JUNK (look how poor clocking is).
