Moved pictures to trash.Have I lost everything?
I was trying to tidy my computer and create more space by deleting loads of files I no longer needed. At the time, I didn't realise that the iphoto heart and brain was kept in 'pictures' and moved all pictures content to trash, thinking it was just copies of pictures I already had in iphoto (4). When I realised what I'd done, I moved the stuff back out of trash and into pictures again. I can't move it into iphoto. I've tried to import pictures back in and the blue stripy line just keeps striping and it says 'working'. I can't open any of the libraries. I've lost about 3,000 images. i can't even begin to describe how sick I feel. It's like I've just crashed a new car.
And no I didn't back up. And I know it's stupid. Will iphoto even work again?
If you've moved subfolders out of the iPhoto Library folder, then you will have created a bit of a mess, but it's not entirely fatal. At worst, you'll lose keyword and album associations.
Drag everything back inside the iPhoto Library folder (in the Pictures folder). Now start iPhoto while holding the option+shift keys until you're asked to confirm that you want to rebuild the photo library. Then click "Save" in the subsequent dialog, and go have a snack. When you come back, iPhoto should have at least sorted out your original images.

Pictures are not saved to iCloud, they can be synced to PhotoStream.
PhotoStream is accessible from other iDevices and the AppleTV.
If the device had been used as desigend, pictures taken with the device would have been regularly copied off the device to a computer. -
Yosemite will not upload on my MacPro, says I have to verify or repair, but when I do - it fails on that too. Am now stuck with a computer that doesn't work ! Have I lost everything ?

Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using. FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in. This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly. By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you. Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

I have never done this before and understood that I needed to update my operating system - being told I needed to via apps. I plugged my iphone in and now it is saying it needs to be restored to factory settings. Have I lost all my photos and videos!!

with itune open go to edit - preference - devices - and see if there is any backups.

i down loaded my photos from my iphone onto my compuyrt then attempted to upgrade to ios on my iphone then sync my phone and computer. now everything is wiped off my phone the itunes and usb visual is on my phonr and it is not recognized on my computer if any one knows how to resore this please let me know thank you
Thank you this helped. I am not very knowledgable about all this but I was able to get the phone restored. I got everything back but my iPod. I thought I was just updating but what happened was my phone was wiped out and the lates iPhone software was installed.

Help! Have I lost everything on my Iphone 4S?
I just updated my macbook itunes, and then plugged my iphone (4s) into it and backed everything up onto itunes (but not icloud) it made me update to ios 8... which I did...
then I think I must've accidentally reset the phone because now it's trying to make me set up the iphone from scratch. On my phone on the 'set up iphone' bit it gives the options to set up as a new phone (which obviously I don't want!!!) or to restore from icloud backup or itunes backup. Obviously I can't do icloud because I haven't backed it up recently, and to be honest I don't even know really know what icloud is/means/how to back up.
But I tried Itunes backup and connected it to itunes but can't work out how to get my old data and information onto my phone. It says at the top 'syncing with Julia's Iphone' then comes up with an error thing saying 'Itunes could not back up the iphone as it has not been set up yet'... is there a way/how do I restore all my old information/apps/contacts/messages/photos etc or have I utterly BUGGERED it all up?!? Am I looking in the wrong place??First: In iTunes, go to Preferences, Devices tab, and and check the box to not sync automatically.
Next: Set up the phone as a new phone, but DO NOT SYNC. Then, after it is set up, connect it to iTunes again (or leave it connected) and click Restore Backup in iTunes. -
I definitely backed up my iphone 4 which was on iOS6 to my laptop. I then lost my iphone and have got a replacement which was already on iOS7. I have tried to restore the backup I made before I went away and I the most recent backup I have is from may last year! Where are all the backups I have made? I need some of the apps and info which is on this backup. I have checked C:\Users\James\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup but there are only 6 folders in there.
In iTunes, on your computer, in the menu on the right is a "Purchased" option. Music is the default I believe and you can download it all or select whichever you want.

Please can someone help me? I updated and synced my phone this evening on i tunes, but something has gone horribly wrong. Not only have I lost everything on my phone, but i tunes will not let me restore it to factory settings. Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. I accidentally hit restore and lost everything
My laptop battery died in the middle of me doing an update. Once I restarted comp I was told to hit restore due to error in itunes. I hit restore and then did the update. I have now lost EVERYTHING (music, #'s, pics, videos and calendar entries)! Need help trying to figure out how to get all my info back!!!!!
Hello. I have the same problem too. I cracked my old iphone 4s and got a new one, same 4s. Today I decided to charge my phone on my laptop and when itunes came up I accidentially hit restore. It restored all the old apps and pictures and others onto my new iphone and I lost all the new pictures, apps, data entries. My icloud was off too. How do I get all these back?

Hi guys, little bit scared here, I'm worried I've lost everything on my eMac... I'll tell you what's happened...
Just woke it from sleep to find that it wasnt displaying a mouse pointer. So, I shut down using the power button at the side.
Press the power button again to wake it up, goes into a plain grey screen - no apple, no spinning status circle.
This screen stays for a while but nothing happens.
So I shut down again using the power button.
Tried to start up again, same plain grey screen. I give it a little longer this time, and eventually I get a little blue folder with a flashing question mark (?) and square smiling face macintosh logo.
OK, so now I'm really worried. Have I lost everything? Whats happening? How do I turn it off from this screen? I'm currently using my housemate's laptop and will be online for a while so any help people can give ASAP, well you'd rank in my list of favourite people ever really. I'm very confused! Help! If Disk Utility reports errors but can't repair them, you'll need a third-party utility:

If you have access to another Mac, you can try booting the problem Mac in Firewire Target Disk Mode to recover your files.
If nothing else is working, you can resort to an Archive and Install. Don't try this if Disk Utility is reporting unrepairable drive errors --- trying to put a new OS on a suspect hard drive is asking for more trouble. Zeroing the hard drive from the Installer's Disk Utility and reinstalling everything from scratch would map out bad disk sectors but wipes out any data you don't have backup up, so try Disk Utility and if needed Disk Warrior first. -
I have iphoto 08 version 7.1.5. I copied photos from recent - last import into albums. I then deleted the photos and emptied the trash. Today all the albums are empty and the photos are nowhere in the library. Have I lost them all?

This is the most frustrating site and instructions. I got locked out of my iTouch and had to do a system restore. I followed the directions for having never synced with itunes directions, as I inheireted this itouch from my dad and when I tryed to sync before it looked like I would wipe out everything on it, which I DID NOT want to do. Now, after following the directions, I have wiped out everything that was on it, pictures, songs,...is there anyway to restore what was on the itouch?
Looking at those directions I am not seeing the device in itunes. Here is what I followed from: iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode under if you have never synced your device with itunes.
"Connecting the device may result in this error message: "iTunes could not connect to the [device] because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the [device] before it can be used with iTunes."
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device."

So I followed these directions and in step number 5 it was uploading (I believe) for about 30 minutes. When that was over there was no other directions and the device was still locked. So I repeated the steps. This time it restored the device, but when I get on it, I lost all music and pictures, along with a few apps. The apps are no big deal as they were free downloads, so I can redo those with no problems. Trying to follow your directions above and clicking through the links, my main problem is that I have no devices showing in itunes. I just down loaded it today, so it is the latest version. So what now? -

I have updated my iPad and lost everything because my only option on iTunes was to update and restore. The update was very strange because I pressed install, I had enough space for the update and I agreed to the terms and conditions. My iPad turned to a black page with a picture of connecting to iTunes, I couldn't get it off my screen even when I plugged it into iTunes. to update and restore my iPad was my only option and if I plugged my iPad out my screen would still say plug into iTunes. You should be able to see all your Purchased Music in your iTunes Account and you can download that Music to your iPhone during a Sync. First step look under Purchases in iTunes.
