I've currently started a new build using the following equipment:
    Coolermaster COSMOS 1000
    MSI P45 Platinum
    Intel Quad Q9550 Processor
    2 x 2gb OCZ Memory
Sapphire ATI 4790 HD 1gb Graphics Card
    PC Cooling 750W Silencer PSU
Wired everything up, connected all the connectors.  When I go to power up the system, I get a Red LED 3 but no fans or anything spins up.  Switched out for a known good power supply and received the same problem.  Not sure where to go from here?

    Hi,
take the board out of the case to test it on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration (CPU, one memory stick, video card, Keyboard and power connectors, nothing else).  Make sure every kind of connection (front panel etc. to the case is removed).
Then clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU and try to power-Up the board.  Try both of the following methods to power-up the system:
    1. use the little red onboard-power-on-button (make sure you don't confuse it with the reset button)
    2. shorten the two pins of the board's pin header that are usually hooked up to the case's power-on button with a screwdriver

i'm sure the hole for the cmos clear button in the i/o shield is the problem. the button is pressed by the i/o shield and your pc won't start.
    a well known problem.
I remember reading about this issue before I built my P45 Platinum system. I made sure during the build that the button was not being pressed by the i/o shield.

Manually set the memory clock speed to DDR3-1066 for testing and see what happens.

  • MSI NEO2 Platinum, problem with mouse Genius PS2 optical

    Hello,
I have a MSI NEO2 Platinum motherboard with a mouse Genius optical PS2. When the S.O. init the mouse is not detected, I unplug and plug again the PS2 port and the mouse work perfectly ! ... The mouse is working perfectly, I test it in another PC, the problem is the motherboard !
The same situation is on Windows XP Professional and Linux Ubuntu 5.10.
Please help me, thanks for your attention !
    Raúl.

    Raúl,
The PS2 slot is NOT a hot plug! If you remove and reinstall it while there is power to the mobo you stand a very good chance of destroying the PS2 Slot.
    Take Care,
    Richard

I have even tried to manually change the switches on the board to 166 instead of 133..
    Can somebody please help??
I tried doing everything in the BIOS.

Still does not work. Any ideas from users who have faced similar problems are welcome.
Meanwhile in a private message I have been accused of spamming all P45 threads. This is atrocious! Please guys, I am not here on behalf of MSI's business rivals to create a ruckus. I have spent my hard earned money on the board and am now facing problems. I hoped to gain sympathetic answers from fellow users, instead of biased accusations. Let me mention here that I have seen seven P45 problem threads on page no. 1 alone of this forum. I responded only to two of them, because my problems were similar.
So if you have any ideas to resolve my difficulty, please tell me about them. This is going to be my last MSI purchase. But that should deter fellow users from helping me out. You are not working for MSI after all!

  • MSI neo2 platinum problem, forced to reset BIOS everytime I turn on the PSU

I just got my neo2 platinum mobo. Everytime I switch it ON all the led's at the back (diagnostic) turn red/orange and never turn green.
I have to reset the bios everytime to get it to post successfully. (bios is the original bios, no flashes done)
    Processor: 3000+ (939)
Anyone else have this problem? what causes it?
[update] the bios version is 1.3 which is the latest on the msi website
    System Specs..
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 90nm (socket 939)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    1 GB Kingston HyperX DDR 400 CS2
    SBlive
    Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB MEM
    Logitech MX510
1x80GB WD HDD with 8MB cache
1x120GB WD HDD with 8MB cache
    Lite-On 48x CD-RW
    NEC 16X DVD RW Drive
RAIDMAX Black Aluminum Gaming Case with 6 case fans and 420W PSU

I think the power supply may be the problem
Once you reset the bios you don't need the amps to spin up the drives, as they are already spinning, saving you about 3 amps I bet. If the newer bios doesn't help, try unplugging half those case fans, the non boot drive, and take the cd's out of you optical drives so they dont spin up, then try cold booting your box a couple times. If it works you know you need a new power supply.
If it doesn't perhaps you've got a grounding problem? Are you positive that nothing metal is touching your motherboard where it shouldn't? If that isn't it, Id  assume the cmos never really clears, and then take the battery out of the motherboard for a good hour while the power supply is unplugged, then give it another shot. I've seen a bunch of DFI boards do weird stuff like that before, the exact same thing actually. Nvidia has a few odd issues with the nforce chipsets and the cmos.
Oh, since you asked, 3000+ is 1.8 ghz. It will probably run at 2.4ghz easy (1.4 volts), thats a 90nm chip

  • MSI P45 Platinum Problems

    Hi.
I am trying to overclock, currently I'm in windows at 4Ghz on my E8500, I know its stable for that as its second hand and tested, the problem is, these GTL ref settings are confusing, even touching them and then saving and exiting bios results in no screen and a row or 4 RED LED's, turning the PC off and then back on solves that but it seems to happen now and again if I say restart windows as it loops and gets to the Bios screen, well its supposed to, it does not due to the red LED's.
Now I am hoping its because I'm simply not overclocking correctly, The Bios baffled me!, I had a Gigabyte P35C DS3R before with an E6600 and the bios was so much more simple.
I have disabled everything from the green power functions, spred spectrum, EIST speedstep etc....
    Voltage settings are as follows:
    CPU - 1.3325
    DRAM - 2.004
    MCH - 1.304
    VTT - 1.30V
    ICH Auto
    CPU Multiplyer is at 9.5X
    FSB is at 425Mhz - 1700QP.
Now if I go into the bios, save and exit, every time the screen never comes back on, it goes to 4 red LED's, now I know in the book that means CPU is damaged but it really is not, I'm hoping I just have the wrong mix of voltages, but I still can get into Windows, just not out of the Bios without turning the PC off due to 4 RED LED's..
Any help would be aprechiated, thanks.
I looked on google but seems not many info on this mobo.
Its a big trouble at the moment to overclock though
*EDIT**, Very sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum, could a mod please move it?
    Thanks

I dont know if I need to tweak the GTL Ref settings?
Leave these GTL Ref settings on AUTO if you don't know what to do with them.  Do some reading on the technical background first as this is not the most basic stuff:

As far as I know "Multi-Step OC-Booster" is disabled.
You may want to try Mode 1 & Mode 2 and see what happens:
Mode 1-Entering OS then OC to setting level; No OC during H/W booting
Mode 2-OC some percantage during H/W booting, and then entering OS to OC to setting level

odd really its supposed to be able to do 4Ghz at 1.32V this
Says who? What are you basing this assumption on?

  • Looking for Bios for MSI 945P Platinum (MS-7176) Version 1.00

Since the msi site doesn´t let me download the original bios of my motherboard, I was wondering if anyone knew how to download the original bios for this motherboard, or should I just make a backup of my current bios and that´s it?

    Quote
because my computer reports that it has version 6 since the last update last year
There is no such thing as "version 6" for your board.  Whatever info your looking at that tells you something about "version 6" has most likely nothing to do with your actual BIOS Version.  Version 6 probably indicates the AWARD BIOS Code Base used for the BIOS (and if that is the case, it will be version 6 for all BIOS Releases for your board).
On the Post Screen, look for the string "W7176IMS Vx.y".  The numbers that you will see in the place of X and Y indicate your current BIOS Version.

And suddenly it started acting weird lately.
A BIOS does not suddenly become faulty and start acting weird.  If whatever problems you have started to occur only recently and not right after the BIOS Update, these are most probably not BIOS issues.  I strongly suggest to leave the BIOS alone for now (well, find out which version you currently have) and explain the weirdnesses you are facing in more detail.  Looks like they are caused by something else.  Please also provide full system specs. Read the >>Posting Guide<< first.

And yes, the liveupdate utility just doesn´t work
Great. It should not be used for BIOS Update anyway because it tends to crash and thereby render systems useless.

  • Msi dka platinum problems with hdd discs

Hello.I got the board for a year now and lately im facing problems with the hdd`s.I have 3 new discs installed on but quite often they disappear completely causing windows(vista 64)to freeze.I asume that the sata controller is faulty. The problem seems to get fixed whenever i change the positions of the sata cables but after a while comes back.Does anyone else facing a similar problem?I ll install the latest bios version to see if things gets better.
    Thanks

    Sava?
    did you solve this problem?
Im really sorry for making over a year to answer :bonk:but the problem is still there.I have now two hdds(the third one is not functioning with the other two ones on:worship:.I have checked my hdds one hunded times without finding a single error.I changed the PSU with a 750watt corsair but still no light .Ive learn to live with it.Whenever my pc refuses to boot(the bios  doesnt recognize the discs)i open the case and disconnect the  hd im using for storage, boot into windows, shut down the pc,reconnect the other one, boot again and voila!!!! Everything works fine for 3 to 5 days in a row until the nightmare returns.I sent the board back to the store for rma but they didnt find anythin wrong.
The only possitive is that i havent had any  "freezing" experience inside the windows for  a long time now.My pc works flawlessly with one hd so im willing to keep it till summer.

    hi...
my english is lack so i'll make it slow
i just bought the msi 945p platinum with intel dual 805d.
    unfortunally, i cant o/c the system ..
the bios got no update on msi website so i see it is the latest bios .
i know that the 805d can be o/c to 3.2 without any over voltage ...as concidered to other motherboards .just by increasing the fsb to 166.
i am kind of newbie in the terms of o/c .
i tried to make some adjustments in the corecenter software but the system freezes or get quickly unstable.
i cant make the fsb on bios ,higher then 165 .default is 133 by the range.
i put over voltage to the memory ->1.9v .default is 1.8 , and put the fsb to 165...but the system didnt post .

    I also have a D805 and an 945P platinum.
In fact i manage a 3.3 GHZ stable overclock by using these:
    In BIOS cell menu:
    CPU ratio unlock-unlock
Memory function sub-menu - Enter, then
    DRAM timing - AUTO (!!!!)
    System memory frequency - auto
    D.O.T.3 Step0 setting - disabled
Auto Detect PCI clock - Enabled
    Spread Spectrum - Disabled
CPU fsb frequency - 165 (THIS IS THE MAX THAT MOBO PERMITS AND IT PISSES ME OFF)
    PCI-e frequency - 115
CPU voltage - 1.21V (1 step up from normal)
    Memory voltage - 1.8V
    AGP/PCI voltage - 1.5V
I have to say that i use a ZALMAN 9550 heatsink and a pair of OCZ DDR2/667 dual channel. CPU temp as BIOS shows is 42C
Also, memory is not overclocked at all !!!
    PSU is a TAGAN 500W
I am sure that i could go up to 3.6-3.8 GHZ with a board that is more "overclocking" oriented.....
But alas...i have no other problems (so far) from it
    thanks for the post
exact vallues are very helpful even  though ıt ıs not mathematıcal ıssue ...

  • 945P Platinum IDE 2 & IDE 3 works in PIO MODE?

Hello there, I just Bought MSI 945P Platinum M/B and Intel Pentium 4 D @2,8Ghz with 1Ghz RAM, 80GB SATA2, 4 CDRW drives (PATA) where 2 of them I plug in to IDE1 slot(known as RAID, but i configured it to IDE function in BIOS) and the others are in IDE2 slot. I used winxp with the all M/B driver installed, everything's seems ok in device manager, the problem is when I use nero for burning with multiple recorder activated, the windows then going extremely slow in any response even with the mouse movement that it seems windows is running out of system memory. Then I check the device manager and I found that IDE2 run in PIO Mode, IDE1 run in UDMA Mode2.
It didn't make any changes when I used IDE3 slot, it run in PIO MODE either.
How Can I configured The IDE2 & IDE3 to works in DMA mode? I've try any combination in BIOS Setup... it didn't work??
HELP, any advice would be appreciated THX...

PCI Bus Mastering already enabled since the 1st time I configured the bios, I'm using 2 pieces thermaltake IDE round Cable that plugged in to IDE 2 & 3, IDE 1 using cable that came with the board. I'm using 4 LiteOn PATA Writers and Seagate 80Gb SATA2 HDD plugged in SATA1 port.
1st configuration, 2 writers are in IDE 1 & the others are in IDE 2
2nd configuration, 2 writers are in IDE 1 & the others are in IDE 3
3rd configuration, 2 writers are in IDE 2 & the others are in IDE 3
All above configuration make the same result, IDE 2 & 3 Won't run in DMA mode
I've try to switch the thermaltake cable to IDE1 and it's work fine (DMA still on).
It doesn' t matter how I configured the BIOS (SATA to combine, enhanced, or AUTO) IDE2&3 still in PIO Mode.
