I've done the burn-in test for about 15 hrs with no problem, but then when i stopped it, i tried to open IE, and the comp crashed, so its not a load problem. the rig always POSTs, thats not a problem. I have not run MEMTEST, but i've tried other ram, with the same problem. I've also tried different vid cards, such as a Radeon 7000, a 9600 pro, and a nVidia mx440, all of which worked flawlessly. Now in the bios, i have the AGP Fast write set to Off, the aperature set to 256mb, and the  VLink 8x support is disabled (therefore set to 4x). The primary graphics adapter is set to AGP. The AGP Frequency is set to the default, and so is the voltage. ALSO, when i was talkin with MSI, then sent me an updated bios. the bios file says 3.36, but in the actual bios, it says 3.31. is this anything to worry about? I have not done driver clean, or used the Omega drivers yet, but i will do that now. Please reply if you can help or if you need more information.
1) why set fast write to off?  mine is on.
2) why set the aperature so much higher than the available onboard ram on the 9700?

  • RESOLUTION: GNB MAX and Radeon 9700 Crashes

I had various lock-ups, crashes and "Windows detected and recovered from a device failure" error messages with my GNB MAX motherboard and Radeon 9700 and they are now fixed.
I was able to receive a beta version of an upcoming set of drivers from ATI and they did the trick!!
Just wanted to give you all some hope.
    Hang in there!

Oops, I spoke too soon.  I think FastWrites is on (I remember turning it off before on previous drivers and noticing a big slow down that is not present now) but there isn't a SmartGart tab appearing in my ATI control panel any more.  I checked Advanced - Options - Details and yes, 8X is on.
How can I verify that FastWrites is on without the SmartGart tab?

  • MSI K7T266PRO2-RU and Radeon 9700 (non-pro)

    Hi!
    I'm thinking of upgrading to a Radeon 9700 non-pro,
and just thought I'd check this forum to see
if there are any compatibility issues between
my K7T266PRO2-RU and Radeon 9700 (like
    there were between GF4mx).
    If someone has a similar setup (k7t266pro2 w. 9700PRO/non-pro)
I would like to hear of your experience with this.
    I appreciate your help.

    Hi,
I can't remember any problems with it, as long as you make sure the powersupply can handle it.

  • K8T Neo2 socket 939 and Sempron??

I just got a K8T Neo2 board in my hands, it's a socket 939 board... You knew that..
A sticker on the box says that it supports AMD Sempron CPU, my thought is HOW?  I've only seen Semprons with Socket A and Socket 754, never a 939.
Any info at all on this?
    Anders.

Hmm.. No matter how I try to figure out that thought, I can't see the solution?  If I headed a large corp. and bought 200+ mobos to use with Sempron and I couldn't assemble them, I'd probably strangle the closest MSI representative..  The worst part is that I can't find ANYTHING about this, not inside the box, not on AMD's site and not on MSI's site.  Only that damned label on the mobo box..

The Venice core will be supported by the K8T neo2 shortly, I'm convinced about that, since Asus (I'm sorry to mention them) are supporting it already, with the same bios.
Even ECS published Venice-ready BIOS updates...

  • KT4 Ultra and Radeon 9700 Pro

Ok I have a question. So it seems there is an issue with this particular card and the KT4 Ultra. So what in the $#%@ brand and model 8x agp card did MSI use to test the 8x function of this board? I thought the 9700 pro was the only 8x card out right now? If its not why wasn't it tested by them??? I hope this will be fixed by a bios update, but not for me, for the others out there, as for me, I am taking this back and I'm getting an Epox board, I heard Asus has similair problems but Epox 8x board works. Very sad that I had to spend hours trying to figure this out and it wasn't even my error.

ATI has already stated (about 2 weeks ago) that a problem does exist with the Radeon 9700 and certain 8x AGP boards. You can RMA the board and it will either be replaced or the BIOS will be flashed at no charge to you. Go to http://www.ati.com and send them an email.

  • 648Max and Radeon 9700 - Im confused

I just installed a Radeon 9700 pro. I was getting a beep sequence when booting and it would go no further. I would just restart the computer and it would come up fine.
Everying appears to work fine after that but I do not like things to work any other way than perfect.
I looked into these boards and have been reading alot about this issue and so I checked my versions.
    I seem to have A revision 1.0 Motherboard and a revision 1.1 Radeon 9700pro(D33011).
Should I talk to MSI and ATI about replacing them?

i had boot problems with this combo when i first bought them. msi asked me when i purchased the MB and asked for a number on the box tht shows what month it was made.  if it was made last september they had a issue with 9700 and the board and they rma''d the board and everything works fine now.
dont know if that would be your fix though but i would suggest talking to them.
other than that make sure your using bios 1.1 or 1.3 (heard 1.2 was problematic for 9700) and that your power supply is adequet.
      Edit:
just saw you had rev 1.1 of the 9700. that rev has had boot issues with agp 8 MB's.  so if the problem i described doesnt fit yours(not made in sept) you might talk to ati about getting a rev 1.3 or higher.   i had to get the 1.3 when i was using a via agp8 board and people on Rage3d had problems with the same issues on the sis 648 boards also.

Hi again - and thanks for your help .... the memory I have is GEIL PC3200 DDR400 (they have blue heatsinks)and I had 2 x 256 and 2x512 ... the reason for this was when I originally built this system I bought 2 x 256 (unmatched but the same - they didn't sell themn matched then - very little difference in the serial nos ....4000194 and 4000180) .. then I upgraded the memory by getting 2 x 512 (couldn't afford 2x1Gig) ... and these are matched SN5014693 -came as a pack of two in a DULA CHANNEL MEMORY box.
I very quickly discovered that you couldn't just put the 2x512 in 1 and 2 and 2x256 in 3 and 4 .... so I had them as 2 x 512 in 1 and 3 and the 2x256s in 2 and 4 and they ran at 166 in dual channel mode.... no probs.... the BIOS automatically set the timings ... they ran at 2.5-6-3-3 when I had 2 sticks of 2x256 ... and I guess the 2x512s would as well, but with all 4 it winds the bus down to 166 and alters the timigs to 3 -?-?-? .. all I can remember is that it was 3 for RAS/CAS (?) ... and if you woork it out 3 cycles at 166 is faster than 2.5 at 200 ...
Anyway ... does that help - do you think I need to boost the memory voltage a bit from 2.5v?
Stability to me is related to whether or not games will play - in 2D it was fine - it was with the 3D of gaming with the new 7800GS I bought as the other part of the upgrade - I thought the combination would make a half-decent games machine for a while to come - benchmarks wouldn't run and half-life 2 without locking up and MOHPA locked up ...but TRL, FEAR, Quake 4 all run fine.
    Thanks again
    JLP

    About the exclamation marks:
Goto Device Manager -> View -> Show hidden devices (enable)
Goto the multimedia-section (where the exclamation marks are) and uninstall all devices marked with an exclamation mark LEAVE THE OTHERS!
==> Note: if you see two of the same installed devices of which one is installed wrongly (excl. mark) and the other is grayed out, uninstall them both. Note to leave all other things, like codecs, alone. If you don't, you ruin your Windows <==
Now, reboot Windows and when the hardware install wizard pops up, cancel that and install the audio drivers manually.
Then the JAUD-pin header: open your case. The JAUD pins are at the bottom left of your board. JAUD1 should be printed next to it. It looks like this:
    o o o x o
    o o o o o
The x is the place where a pin is missing. now, both pins next to that one should be connected with a jumper
    o o | o |
    o o | o |
The two | show the pins to be connected.

  • [Athlon64] K8T NEO2-F motherboard and memory problem. Please help :(

I just recently built my first computer and everything seemed to be working fine.  However, my two RAM chips had corrupt memory sectors so I had to replace them.  Upon buying 4x256mb chips to replace the 2x512mb chips, I discover that 1 & 2 DIMM slots worked and the 3 & 4 DIMM slots do not.  When i try to put RAM chips in there (which work when put in slots 1 & 2) the computer will not even start up. I've tried diff. combinations of slots, even using the old chips (which work but causes programs to crash occationally). But nothing seems to make DIMM slots 3 & 4 to work.  Any ideas?  Thanks for the help.

How about giving complete specs. I am pretty sure I have an answer that will fix you up but I want to know which CPU core you have and what Bios your running. Those are the two important things on this issues at the moment but save us all trouble and do a complete set of specs for your signature. and then we will help you.

  • K8T Neo2(MS-6702E) BIOS HELP

Okay, I really could have avoided this problem if I did this the correct way, and followed a few rules... but I guess I have to learn the hard way sometimes.
I wanted to do a BIOS flash cause it was outdated, and I thought it might make my system more stable and stop freezing up.  (Problem #1 right there, don't flash if system is unstable)  Well  I went and downloaded the BIOS flasher and the BIOS ROM and put them onto a floppy.  (Problem #2, some people say that flashing from a floppy is suicide) So I started the BIOS flash and it erased my current bios, but then it came up to a error. The error was a "data read error on drive A:".  So I took a different floppy and put the BIOS Flasher and the BIOS ROM on to another floppy and tried it again.  Still did the same thing.  So I had the option to ignore the error, and I did.  It gave me the error all the way through the programming of the ROM.  It said that the ROM Programming completed, but it was not programmed correctly.  So, I decided what the hell, I'll try to restart my system... (Problem #3, Whoops)  So now I'm stuck here, and my PC won't do anything but sit there.  What are my Options?

One of the function keys like F10 or F12 I can't remember which may read a floppy for a Bios load. It got me out of a spot once.
First make darn sure the floppy is good... Format it frech and do a chkdsk/f on it to check all sectors and fix any error. Then get a fresh download of the Bios. Make sure that Floppy drive is still good or better yet pick up a new one and use it. Sounds like either the floppy or the drive in your case was junk. Then start the machine with the new FD in place and kit those keys and see if it won't read it. If it does then your good... If not the click on the supprt link at the top of the forum and get an RMA...
Oh ya... If you have a Clawhammer, Newcastle or Winchester stay away from the version 9.x bios's They are only and I do mean ONLY for the newer cores.
