do you mean I have to enable XMS ?
Actually, it's not likely a mainboard overload at all, it's probably the CPU IMC having the problem. Enable of X.M.P. is the last thing you want to do. If the RAM has to be set in this manner, it is not programmed to properly default at the platform's designed specifications. BIOS revisions dealing with compatibility are being worked on to make up for this RAM manipulation.
My apology to the OP in advance for the next comments. Some here at the forum have been advised before, that having to set X.M.P. to get the RAM to work properly (having to OC it) is a wrong way to go about it. The platform must first be able to run at stock/auto/default with no issues 'first', then venturing off to more exotic settings later if desired. This 'forcing' of non spec 'rated' RAM & programming is purely product marketing tactics. As mentioned, with four sticks of RAM, the CPU IMC may require an increase of DRAM V. Here is the official specifications from the current Intel data. This data is not really open to debate. For those that have issue with it, take it up with Intel!

  • Bios and memory problem with a P67A-GD80‏

Hi, I'm experiencing 2 problems with this board and I have not yet install an OS in it
first problem : in the bios if I go in the section Green Power, the system froze, I have to press reset to reboot
second problem : if I install 2 stick of memory in the blue slot, it work fine
if I remove them and place them in the black slot, it work fine
if I place 4 sticks at the same time, the system crash and reboot and make a loop
here the stick I try : Patriot PVV34G1600LLR 4 of them
    G Skill F3-12800cl9q-16GBRL  4 of them
I see that new version of BIOS is supose to fix some problem with compatibility of memory, the problem is the way the board shut down when I put 4 stick, it's like the board is overload the led don't act like when you press the resset, they kind dim before the board crash
thanks and sorry for my english , I must add that it's more than 25 years I build computer I build around 3 a week, I have never RMA one motheboard until now.

  • Intel Z68 Sandy Bridge chipset and SSD caching....

For those of us considering a move to the Sandy Bridge/Z68 platform, we will eventually need to sort out whether to take advantage of the chipset's ability to "improve" ONE hard drive with a smallish (64GB or less) SSD.
Results I have seen indicate read speeds considerably slower than an SSD drive alone but acceptably improved performance over a bare hard drive. It seems like a promising situation. Capacity of a TB hard drive with read speeds nicely bumped upwards.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/z68-express-lucidlogix-virtu-ssd-caching,2888.html
Question: If a user followed Harm's and other's suggestions in setting up a basic 3- or 4-drive computer, which drive should take the cheapo SSD?
    Thoughts:
    1) Assume the Z68 platform is loaded with all 16GB of memory that the four-slot Socket 1155 motherboard can typically accept. Would CS5 or 5.5 load enough program data into RAM to render placing the SSD on the OS drive for editing with Premiere minimally beneficial? Or would it simply make sense to put the SSD on the OS drive for so many other reasons that it's a no-brainer?
    2) If it's a close call, which other drive should get the SSD? If I understand correctly, this hybrid drive won't write data all that much better. The improvement will primarily be on reads. And on that, random access reads, not sustained throughput. This is especially the case with cheaper 40GB-ish SSD's. (Some one please verify this.) Most Sandy Bridge users opting for the lower end, 20 PCI-e lanes platform won't be big-time power users. (You guys are waiting for the Socket 2011 platform.) Many of us will be getting our footage from DSLR or other AVCHD sources. AVCHD is so compressed that a single drive can supply more than enough layers for the Joe Blow amateur editor.
Unless we use Cineform NeoScene to lighten the load on the CPU, which will result in a much larger bitstream coming off the media drive for each layer, Would it make sense to help out a single drive in this situation? Or would it be universally better to set up a simple 2-disk RAID 0? Paying $65 for second drive and taking advantage of motherboard RAID 0 would seem to be a better solution if the media drive can't keep up.
For any situation, if the media drive(s) is already fast enough, would caching the media drive offer many benefits? I'm under the impression that feeding Premiere with footage is a sequential read situation, not a random access deal. Isn't the strength of an SSD in random access reads, and wouldn't the best usage be to place it on a disk that primarily is used by Premiere in random access data fetching?
    3) Good grief. If it doesn't go on the OS or primary media drive supplying footage, where else? Projects disk? Scratch drive?
    4) Might the most useful thing be to avoid setting up a RAID while getting some of the speed benefits a RAID 0 offers? Many casual users can build a straightforward computer but have never set up a RAID array, even a 2-disk RAID 0.
40GB SSD's are under $100 now. I suspect a lot of people will use this feature of the Z68, if the hybrid drive isn't hard to set up and is reliable. I'm curious how the Premiere crowd will make use of this feature, and will it make a palpable difference on a relatively simple editing rig? No Areca RAID cards and only 16GB memory. Nothing more than 3 or 4 single drives.

Frankly I don't see how an inexpensive SSD would help the "caching" for editing with Premiere CS5, since a typical 7200 rpm 1TB drive can perform substained writes at about 2x what a typical small SSD does.
Premiere CS5 continues to beg for lots of drives!
    Jim
(one of the few "believers" in SSDs on this forum - and my "belief" is for OS and programs, not for input, media, caching, etc.)

  • Question regarding all the x58 Pro-e and memory problems

I've notice a serious amount of issues when it comes to people not seeing all of their RAM or not getting triple-channel status.
Before I even post my issue, I was wondering if there is a general fix for everyone experiencing these problems, because it seems I'm have the exact same issue as everyone else.

Oh well. Its basically like I said - its the same problem most other people are having. I have 6 GB of DDR3 RAM but only 4 GB ever shows up. And it shows in Dual channel mode, when everything should be triple channel 3 x 2GB. First, here are the specs for my system, which was just recently purchased.
Model of the motherboard: MSI X58 Pro-E LGA
    Model of the memory: G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit
Model of the CPU: Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz LGA 1366 130W
Model of the GPU:  SAPPHIRE TOXIC 100282TXSR Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
Model of the HDD:  Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
    Model of the PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V
Type of Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I have tried everything. I've updated the BIOS, I've tested each stick, I've even RMA'd the board itself, but to no avail. I have 3 sticks of RAM in each of the DIMM_A slots. Each stick is 2 GB each, but the POST never counts more than 4 GBs. I've tried adding in the sticks each one at a time in different slots; in different combinations, but nothing is working. I know the sticks work and I know the board is reading them because they show up in Memory-Z in the BIOS and in fact, in a 3rd party program called Speccy, it shows 6GB! But it still says they're running Dual channel mode.
Here is the current BIOS I am running as shown in the POST output and model of the memory as shown on the sticker AND the model of the motherboard itself:
    BIOS: A7522IMS V8.10 030910
    RAM MODEL NUMBER: F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ | DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24 1.5v | PC3-10666 2GBX3 | 10060840076833
    MOBO MODEL NUMBER: MS-7522 | VER: 3.1
Those are exactly what are printed on the label/sticker letter-for-letter.

Buy the correct RAM, don't bend any CPU socket pins, install the sticks in the correct slots, don't buy into the RAM makers claims of 'rated' performance.
You're either implying that I've incompetently bent a socket pin when I installed the CPU, placed the RAM in DIMM slots they don't belong or need to trash the $200 RAM I've just purchased.
Ok, assuming that ISN'T the case, what exactly are you suggesting thats supposed to be of help? You say "Buy the correct RAM" but you don't tell me what the 'correct' RAM is.

  • Gpu, Psu, Bios, or Memory Problem?? HELP!!

    Continous problem arises again.
My Visiontek Geforce 3 Ti-200 still continously studders in heavy graphic
applications, such as Quake 3 and Divx. I have stated this problem before
with little luck fixing the problem. A complete format and installation of
Windows XP, nForce motherboard drivers 2.00, then the latest 43.xx Detonator
drivers has been done, with the problem still arising after installing Quake
3 (the next application after the GPU drivers) and testing the new
installation. In my findings, the most recent change of hardware specs is
the new CPU, a AMD Thoroughbred A XP1800, which after installation, make my
system function worse than with my old 1.2 Duron. The studderring of the
graphics and a new bug in the BIOS keeping me from changing the clock
spectrum is a few of the occurances. The BIOS bug only happens when i try
to change the clock spectrum to anything other than disabled, then i will
save and the system will freeze at the post screen, this has never happened
before with the 3.00 BIOS and the Duron. Another occurance is when i load
High Performance setting and set the Memeory clock to 2 clocks instead of
default 2.5, Quake 3 will load very slowly, and the studderring is no more a
heartbeat like studder, but every 30 seconds the game will freeze for about
5 to 30 seconds, then continue. Repeating this until I exit the program. I
had upgraded the BIOS to allow the T-bred chip, which may have borked my
motherboard and/or my AGP. I have used the Geforce Tweaker with good
results in overall GPU performance. I can tell when I change settings that
my FPS in games have increased/decreased. I believe this may be a
global/software problem and hopefully not a RAM/PSU/GPU/CPU problem.

Its the memory, last thing i would of thought of.  Not that its bad or anything.  I did memtest overnight with no problems and no errors with both sticks in but i recieved a message on a forum to try one stick earlier, I took out the newest chip and the problem went away.
Is there something wrogn with the 2.00 twin bank memory controllers??  Can I install only the memory controlelrs from the 2.03 update, if so how? Everything else is stable and fast in my machine now... too bad I have to lose half my memory...

  • Mouse and memory problems (975X Pl pe)

    First Hello,
this is my first post here, hope you can help me
    PC configuration in my signature
    OK. Here goes
    1.   And most annoying problem – mouse problem (A4tech NB-90 mouse, connected to usb)
Mouse stops working, randomly (maybe once every month). It’s happening when booting windows. Mouse doesn’t work, actually all the led’s are blinking but it’s not recognized by windows. Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn’t work (nothing happens). Rebooting windows doesn’t help (still not working).
Solution to my problems is to shutdown the computer and disconnect  the power cable from my PC, then reconnect it again and start the PC all over again. NOW it’s working!! WT ?
I tested mouse (3 months) on the other pc and it works OK there, so he is not  the problem.
o yea, I formated hdd, and installed fresh windows and still no luck.
    2.   Memory problem on 800MHz – I think this is because of incompatibility with motherboard or too weak psu
By default (motherboard)memory works on 667MHz. (and with this setup everything is fine)
The problem starts when I put it on 800MHz in bios – than system becomes instable (random reboots)
    a.   Memory tested with memtest at 667MHz (both and than separate modules, 4 hours each test) -> NO ERRORS
    b.   Memory tested with memtest at 800MHz (both and than separate modules) -> Never saw so much errors in my life  :(
I doubt I’ll solve this problem (except buying new memory modules), but you guys know more than me so I’ll let you decide.
and yeah, sorry for my bad English!
    Thanks
    Bas

  • KT4VL CPU and Memory problems

I have a KT4VL that I updated to BIOS version 1.60 with the liveupdate feature (I really like that by the way).  Anyway, I have two problems with the board.  I have a AMD 1700+ XP 1.47Ghz/266 CPU.  The manual and your website says I should change the CPU FSB Clock under Frequency/Voltage control to 133 for that CPU.  When I do, the system locks (corrupted a file and forced a reinstall of XP that was a pain). I've repeated that and when I change it back to 100Mhz, it doesn't lock. The web site says to change the CPU ratio to 11 with the 133 setting which I did but the system still locks/reboots suddenly.  I even tried changing the Spread Spectrum setting from the 25% default to none but it still crashes.
The second issue is that I have a PC3200 DDR 256MB DIMM (Samsung
K4H560838D-TCC4) that is specifically listed in the manual as a recommended DIMM.  However, if I put it as the only DIMM in the system, it doesn't POST or boot and gives 3 Long Beeps.  The D bracket indicates that it's a memory problem.  I exchanged the DIMM for the new one to make sure I just didn't get a bad one but it has the same behavior with the new one.  When I put it in with a PC2700 DIMM I have, it doesn't boot or beep.  It just sits there.
What BIOS settings do I need to put to support my CPU and memory correctly?

    Bas,
Ok, I'll try 1.7.  You think that will fix the memory problem?
The power supply is an AMD approved 350W power supply so I don't think that's it.  I'll double check the cooling setup (it's a volcano so it oughta be good) but cooling could definitely be it.
The only thing I need you to verify for me is the BIOS settings...Will the AUTO setting work for the PC3200?  Or do I need to specify it?  And for the CPU, the FSB should be 133 and the ratio 11?  Any other changes?  Should I mess with the spread spectrum settings?
I guess I'd like to verify what my bios settings should be to support my CPU and memory.
Lastly, will I be able to use both my pc3200 and my pc2700 DIMM at the same time?
Thanks so much for your time and help.

  • JPA @Lob annotation and memory problem

    Hi.
Is there any way to overcome the memory problem with @Lob types?
FetchType.LAZY means lazy as it spelled. Am I right?
And it doesn't mean any stream handling of big sized lobs. For lobs are so big that my physical memory can't hold it.
    @Entity public class Parent implements Serializable {
@Lob private byte[] big; // what can I do if it is to big to hold in memory?
}Is there any standard way for this problem?
I found that openejb serves *@Persistent* annotation for InputStream/Reader for this purpose.
But I want to know if there is another way for more portability.
    You know what?
I heard from a JPA spec guy that this problem (maybe it's not a problem) won't even be considered in next version. (2.0?)
    How horrible...
Is it can be a good think that split the Lob column into a OneToMany children?
This is the best output, for now, from my head.
    @Entity public class Parent implements Serializable {
        @OneToMany private Collection<Child> children;
    @Entity public class Child implements Serializable {
@Lob private byte[] chopped; // small enough to fit into memory
    }

If the Lob is too big for your memory, then you are best off handling whatever processing you need to do on it through raw JDBC. If your only interested on the first n bytes, then you could probably map to something like this using a view the truncate the lob, and map your class to the view instead of the table.
You should also be able to define your variable as Blob or Clob and get the locator directly. But the locator is tied to the connection, so will not be usable after the connection is returned to the pool. I'm not sure how such a lob could be model if it can't be read into memory, perhaps as some special JPA Lob type that can return a stream on the data by re-querying the lob from the db.
What exactly to you want to do with the lob?

  • New Intel Sandy Bridge benchmarks and overclocking results! 4.7Ghz!!!

    http://www.gamingaccess.com/Hardware/news/26688/New_Intel_Sandy_Bridge_benchmarks_and_overclocking_results!_47Ghz!!!
Intel Sandy Bridge promises to deliver GPU quality graphics included in the CPU. However, these graphics are not going to compete directly with mid-range or high-range GPUs, but they will finally allow Intel (which quite honestly, sucks) to enter the graphic market. Finally, laptop users won't have crappy graphic and everyone should have at least decent graphic out of the box.
After 15 years, finally I can consider this question "Do you have a graphics card?" a thing of the past. CPU should include a decent GPU right out of the box, and gamers will continue to buy their fancy Nvidia or ATI mid-range and high-end products, or even combine them in CrossFireX, SLI, or even Mix+Match using Hydra.
The Chinese website http://www.inpai.com.cn has published a review that shows that there is little to no benefit in Intel Sandy Bridge if you compare the famous Intel Core i7 875k with the new Intel Core i7 2600k
However, they were able to reach 4.7Ghz, so I don't see why they are so disappointed with Intel. Anyway, here is what they had to say about the new Intel Core i7 2600k
    Conclusion
As far as overclocking is concerned, the Core i7 2600K processor reached a not so impressive 4.7GHz which is a disappointment amongst overclockers since they were the only one who's gonna pay for this CPU

Disconnect that Seagate hard drive and see if you have any problems still. Looks like that drive could be failing though. A failing hard drive can certainly cause problems on start-up.

Sorry to hear your woes there msx58m, sometimes things just don't as planned nice and shiny out of the box.
Strange how you were having trouble with the RAM as I thought it would have defaulted to 1066MHz or 1333MHz out of the box and 1.5~1.6V should have sufficed. A rule of thumb, always set your RAM manually including the voltage. As for the original BIOS problem... you'll probably find that the BIOS didn't recognise the 975 processor until the distributor updated the BIOS to a later release - this isn't anything new. 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing but you could have saved some of that grief by reading up on the pinned topics on this site and other website resources regarding memory voltages and timings.
Yes, Vista & Win7 and more demanding than XP (I found Vista the most demanding of the three) and it's reflected in the overclocks I could achieve across the platforms.
