I would like to connect my Ipad 2 wirelessly via 3G with a wireless rooter. The Ipad does not have a slot for a card, so it will have to connect to the rooter via bluetooth. Is this possible? If so, where can I buy such a rooter? Many thanks! Ina

I'm not really understanding what you want. You mention all 3 types of connections: wireless, 3G and bluetooth, but I'm not clear on what you want to do. What the router is supposed to do, and why do you think it would need to connect via bluetooth?
I'm thinking you want to buy a Mifi type device that will allow you to connect to a cellular network and then connect the iPad to that device via the Wifi network the Mifi produces.
    Is that so?

  • Suggestions for express card/cingular

I'm looking for the best options for an express card/34 for macbook pro that will work with Cingular service (only available service option for offshore in the Gulf of Mexico region).
I see that Cingular will soon be offering a GT Max 3.6 express card, but specifications only list for windows operating systems?

Also found the very pricey Novatel Wireless Merlin XU870 3G HSDPA 3.6/7.2 Mbps ExpressCard ($399) - but know nothing yet about it's support for mac.

Any feedback from users who've found a successful express card option for cingular wireless service and the macbook would be welcome.
    Thanks!

  • Best slot for raid card

got a sata highpoint raid card coming
any advise on best pci slot for raid
im assuming 4 but what are you lot using

i have proven this time and time again to a many a people.  i do not know why others have had this problem.  i have had the sb live, usb, and the nic steering the same irq.  not one single problem, audio hiccup (pops, cracks), nor problem with throughput.  this was in win98 and me.
seriously, although i do agree in allocating in the order of priority. scsi, nics, soundcards, etc-thats my zen . if you get my point.  although i have seen good credible people i know that handle hardware correctly and they have had a minor problem with a p.o.s. periph, but they noted usually fixed with a new driver.  sound blasters work well, contrary what many have said, steering irq's with another periph-i have done it for years, literally.  this is also with systems i have built for my friends and family.
agp1, pci1, pci2, pci3 unless there are integrated features for the motherboard always have their own interrupt lines.  obviously though if you are going to use agp1 you are not going to want to use pci1 if you dont want to steer the interrupt.  pci4, 5, 6 always have a duped interrupt line like agp1 and pci1.
it really doesnt matter. specially with an os that will allow the usage of the apic.  if that was the case then there would be a lot of servers in this world that are more fu**ed up than you think.

  • Instructions for opening a Satellite Z930 with a slot for SIM card

    Hello,
I have a Satellite Z930 which I would like to open in order to replace the original SSD with one having a higher capacity.
    The thread http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=279122
    was very helpful.
But my PC has a SIM card slot on the right side (side opposite to the microphone and the headphone)
Even after taking off all the 14 screws (including the torx one right in the center), the back cover can not be lifted up on the side of the SIM card slot. Something is holding it back.
Has anyone in the community already succeeded in removing the back cover for this confiuration ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Randy, Thanks anyway for your time.
After hesitating a bit, I finally decided to remove the SIM tray completely (since that was what was preventing the backcover from coming off).
When you pull at the tray (it is plastic and gray in color and opposite to the audio and video outlets), it does not come off completely when you pull it out normally to maximum (as when inserting a SIM card). You have to frankly tug and pull hard and the plastic tray comes out (just take care not to break it, whch shouldn't happen since the tray is supple and flexible).
Once the tray is out, the back cover comes off (like explained in several videos on the net, especially a good one mentioned by Randy).
Now, I could replace the original factory 128Gb SSD with a 480 Gb disk from mushkin (Atlas mSATA SSD).
This disk from mushkin is just about the right size to go into the Z930, a bit more bigger and it would not have fitted !
Hope this is useful to others.

All X61 models have the moulding in the body shell for a SIM slot, but they don't all have a SIM reader or antennas installed, let alone a 3G card.
Your 7666-B4G config shows as this....
    L7700(1.8GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel X3100, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 8c Li-Ion, WinVista Business
... so, IMO, its unlikely it is WWAN-ready at any level.
My 7676-3PM came in this config:
    T7100(1.8GHz), 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel X3100, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Fingerprint reader, 8c Li-Ion, WinVista Business
... and its very definitely not WWAN ready.
    Cheers,

  • Which PCIe slot for gphx card?

    Hey all:
I have had a problem with my mac pro 2006 rebooting spontaneously. I thought it must be the graphics card and finally pulled the graphics card out and left the mac pro on for a while to see if it would reboot. It didn't. It was solid. No graphics card = no problems, so I assumed it was the graphics card.
So, I decided to swap out my x1900 with a 4870. It's rebooting. I guess this has to do with power to the logic board or something. I have no idea, but I'm super frustrated since this thing isn't under warranty.
I decided to put the graphics card (the new 4870) in the 2nd to bottom PCI slot, rather than the bottom slot. I got a message on startup from the PCI Expansion Slot Utility: http://twitpic.com/2k2jeh
So, things seem to be stable (but I am not counting on it). Is my 4870 not running at full speed in the second slot? I'm not an expert in how the PCI slots are set up, and I'm trying to understand.
    I decided to swap

    I found this : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2838
Slot two is 1x + 16x rather than "slot - one" which is just x16... so since slot two has that extra x1 I guess the 4870 cannot perform to its fullest, but pretty close?
I have a suspicion that something in the PCIe slot 1 chain may be broken?... like the power or something? I'm going to lower my fan speed down from 1800 RPM and see if it blows up. It probably will.
Anyone think I just need a new Power Supply, or maybe a new logic board?... how much do those things run? And if I call in on an unsupported system what sort of pricing is it for replacement parts like this? Bad?

  • Best Slot for sound card

Hello.I have a simple question about my sound card.
I have Msi Z97 gaming 5 and Creative sound blaster z.My graphic card is N660 Gaming 2GD5/OC. I was wonder what is best PCI-X slot to add the card.
In the upper place or down?

personally I would use the upper x1 slot so the heat off the sound card isn't being pulled into the Graphics cards cooler increasing its temperature a little but that's just me.

  • USB Adapter for Express Card??

I have a Verizon ExpressCard (PC770) that I use with my Dell laptop. Is there an adapter that will allow me to use it through my USB port on my MacBook?

To the best of my knowledge, no. That card appears to be PCI-based and the existing USB ExpressCard adapters will only work with USB-based ExpressCards.
    Regards.

  • Express Card 34

Does anyone know if an adaptor exists to adapt a Compact Flash card into the Express Card 34 slot on a MBP? If not how about CF to Firewire or USB?

There is an adapter by Delkin Devices called the eFilm express card 34 compact flash adapter. Cost = $60 I haven't ever tried it so I can't comment on how well it works but there is one out there if you want to use the EC 34 slot for CF card reader.
But what I use is a typical Sandisk Compact flash card reader via USB2. It's a lot cheaper and the speeds are fast enough. My CF use is for digital photography. Got mine at Best Buy, I believe. You can also, of course, buy a firewire CF reader for the speed of transfer only, if that is very important to you, but the cost for those is expensive too.
Also, the CF adapter for express card 34, I am pretty sure that it is NOT flush with the mac book pro when inserted, so it will stick out there a ways, so it wouldn't probably be an adapter you'd want to leave installed if you move your laptop around a lot. That was the reason I decided to stick with the USB2 CF reader.
    Hope the info helps.
    Regards.

  • Workaround for the missing express card slot on the 15"

I was ready to click the buy now button for the new 15 inch and then realized that there is not an express card slot. I know there is one in the 17 inch, but that is out of my price range and try using it while flying coach.
Anyway I edit film and video. I use the express slot for ingestion of P2 data and estata cards, not to mention a Matrox MXO2.
Question: How are users with the 15 inch going to get data input speeds higher than FW400. You can edit HD, but it barks at you.
Since the only port that is open is the ethernet, can someone invent an adapter that will allow the ethernet jack to be the input for devices? I am just asking for speculation. I also assume that the SD card slot can only be used for SD. I would be afraid to have anything other than an SD card sticking out of the MAC.
Anyway, I will try to look for the last generation 15 inch and can get the new 17inch, but since I hook my current 15 inch up to an external monitor and use it for rough editing in the field, I would really love to have a 15 inch that can do what I need.
    Cheers.

What I did was just got a refurbished model. Really the new version is not really upgraded from the last version in any significant manner. They moved the product line around a bit, and changed a connection. As a Mac "Genuis" told me, 1 nice thing about the refurbs is that the unit has been looked over carefully before its sent out. You'll save a few hundred dollars and you can get a 2.66 or even a 2.53 or 2.4 with the express slot and everything else pretty much the same, oops, hmmm except for the 8GB ram, that's actually a big feature. However, many say the 15's will take 6GB though not officially supported by Apple. Anyways, it's a way to get a computer with the express slot and save some money. Just a thought:)

    Hi Jessica,
No, the SD slot will not work, you need an ExpressCard/34 slot.
I do not know if it works with cameras, but with two or more HDs, if the first one has two FW ports, you can "daisy chain" one or more additional HDs from it.

  • Sat Pro M70-113: Express Card slot - What for?

    Hi,
can anybody tell me what is the use of express card slot on my sat pro m70-113,like what hardware can i connect to it for expansion..
    Thanks..

    Hi
This new expansion Express Card slot for notebooks has two sizes: Express Card/34 and Express Card/54, whose widths will be 34 mm (1/8) and 54 mm, respectively. Both are 75 mm long and 5 mm thick. The idea is the same of the PCCard, only that by using serial communication instead the parallel one, it uses less pins (only 26 pins, against 68 pins in the PC Card) and that permits the manufacture of smaller expansion boards.
