Moved some files not LR won't startb up

I've moved several files to different folders and now I can't get Lightroom to start--well, it starts but the spinning beach ball won't let me do anything whatsoever. Frozen fast on the library page and Lightroom is not responding.
I've trashed everything connected to LR (prefs, all files in home and root, everything that has the name), even redownloaded it and reinstalled but same thing.
I'll be buying it but what if the same thing happens when I install it for real?
Please help ASAP-- I have 1 day left on my trial and have to do some printing tonight!
iMac Power PC G5 OS10.4.9, 1.5 GB SDRAM, 2GHz

I'm answering my own question, in case there are others out there who have the same problem.
I finally found my library databases. I had trashed the cache and thought that was it but after re-reading the original Read Me (the beta's) I found the bug report method, where we were asked to send Adobe a copy of the database file. So after dumping that, no more start up problems. (it is called Lightroom Library.aglib, and is located by default in ~/Pictures/
Lightroom on Mac and by default in the Documents and Settings\My Pictures\Lightroom folder on Windows).
Thanks for your patience if you are still reading this.
Have to go--printing to do before my trial runs out at midnight!~

  • Disc Burner. Why are some files not readable or writeable?

    Hello,
I am trying to backup my friends computer files on a beige G3 (233 MHz). I am burning about 6 DVDs of AIF music files. Most of the files are about 30 - 40 Megs in size. Often I receive error messages on particular files that read:
"The operation cannot be completed because some data cannot be read or written.
    (Error code - 36)"
Followed by the choices: "Stop" or "Continue".
I have a bad feeling that my startup disk is too small but I am not sure.
Most of the files work fine. However some of the files cause disc burner to not be able to use them in the disc image before I burn. Why would this be?
    Here are the specifications:
Computer: beige G3 with two hard drives (one SCSI and one ATA hard drive) and a Pioneer DVR-110D DVD writer which is Apple supported (Apple system profiler indicates Apple supported on this DVD writer). My blank DVD disks are Sony Vermatim DVD-R (1 - 16x speed support). Although I think my beige G3 only writes them at about 2 or 4x.
I am using OS 10.1.5. My startup disk which has OS 10.1.5 in it is a 4 GIG SCSI disk. Is this big enough for a startup disk (for creating 4.5 GIG DVDs)? My files are on the second hard drive which is a 40 GIG ATA disk.
I have a bad feeling that my OSX startup drive is too small for disk burning - it is only 4 GIGs in total and OSX Disc burner (Disc copy) is first making a disk image on my startup volume before it burns it. Perhaps that disk image is too large for the startup volume. Is there any way I could ask OSX to put this disk image on the second larger hard drive instead (not the startup drive?).
Here is my process (I hope I am doing this right - I am new at this):
    1. I first insert a blank DVD-R
    2. A message pops up asking my if I would like to create a blank disc image for this disk (I think this is the typical Disk Copy utility window. I say "yes" and give it a name and choose the "DVD-R or DVD-RAM" option. (I am not sure if there are other important settings to choose here or better settings to use but I guessed the other options that seemed obvious. A blank disk image is created with an icon that looks like a DVD disk.
    3. Then I drag my chosen files to this blank disc image. It takes about 30 minutes to copy over. Thats when I receive the error message that some files couldn't be "read or written". The other files work fine but it would be nice if they all worked.
Why would some files not be readable or writeable?
    4. Then I choose file/burn in the top menu and the DVD is created. This takes another 20 - 30 minutes. At the very end of the process another message pops up saying:
"Sorry the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -28)" Followed by an "OK" button.
However all the files that made it onto the final DVD are fine - its just that its not all of the ones I originally chose in the first step when dragging to create the disk image.
Am I doing this the right way?
Why are some files not "readable or writeable" as it indicates in the error message?
Is my 4 GIG startup disk too small for this? or are the music files possibly corrupt? or could there be some other possible problem?
    Thanks

To follow up, I have some good news. After following your advice Kappy, it now works very well Thanks! Instead of using the 4 GIG volume for the OS, I am now using an 8 GIG partition on an 80 GIG drive. So now the OS has some room to operate. No disk errors occured on my first DVD
Now there was one problem. The second DVD burned gave me an error. I am not sure why but I am going to guess that because I had to installed the OS onto an 8 GIG partition maybe the OS needs to be rebooted in between disk burns because although 8 GIGs is certainly greater than the 4 GIGs I gave it last time, it still isn't a lot of space - maybe just enough to do one DVD at a time. Thats only a guess. So I rebooted to see if that clears the system out ready for the next DVD and I am trying to burn the second DVD again. If I remember I will report back. In any case, yes, this seems to be working. I hope this second DVD burns well too.
    Thanks Kappy

  • Some files not previewing in Bridge CS4, only showing icons

This is not new but I finally got to the point where I'm bothered enough to write. I'm browsing folders that have Illustrator, Photoshop, and .tif files, and some files preview, and some just show the icon of the file type. What needs to happen for me to be able to preview ALL the files in the folder I'm browsing? b.t.w., it's not just this folder - it's happened before with other folders and there seems to be no sense to it - some folders I browse everything shows up, others only some files preview and others are as described above. Thanks for any advice...

I would go to tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder.  Let the thumbs rebuild and see how it acts.  It is best not to start a new action until the spinning wheel in lower right corner stops to indicate it is finished.

  • Why is there an alert as to some files not syncing when it looks alike everything is synced?

I see a red exclamation point and a notification that some files did not sync, but it looks like everything did sync.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that did not clear up the condition.  I did have to add a "Creative Cloud Files"  folder… Could that be the issue?  Why wasn't it there when the program loaded?

What files? What system? What else? You need to be more specific.

  • Some files not seen by import tool

Some, but not all, of my JPG files created by Photomatix HDR are not being seen by the LR 4.1 import tool eventhough I can see and view them in the Windows 7 file system and viewer.
LR just does not see them but they are there.  I tried closing Photomatix, LR and even rebooting figuring it could be Photomatix not releasing a lock on the file but that does not work.
This is not an infrequent problem.  It happens to about 20% of the images I create with Photomatix.
I am not using the export LR plugin

Below are screen shots.  If you look carefully you will see that the following files are not visible in the LR import tool at all.  They are not greyed, checked or unchecked.  Just not visible.
    blackbird.jpg, F-117 and B-1.jpg, USAF B-17.jpg, USAF F-22a.jpg, USAF F-82g.jpg, USAF FS-454.jpg, USAF Missing Man 3.jpg
I am happy to upload the files if you give me a suggestion for a file sharing service.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Some files not showing up in iPhoto

I used the Grand Perspective app on my iPhoto library package to find large video files I could reduce to save space. In the process, I've found some files that are in the package but aren't displayed in iPhoto. If I do a search for the file in iPhoto, nothing comes up. Any ideas what might be going on? I'm using version 9.5.1

  • Upgrade PSE 9 to LR  3.3 -- some files not supported

i just upgraded my PSE 9 catalog to LR 3.3. Upgrade seemed to go fine,  but afterward LR said it "added 20,000 photos but 11 were in a format  this is not supported."  Any idea how to figure out what photos (or  perhaps videos) those were?

sounds like a great idea, but i converted from PSE 9 and my understanding is that psedbtool doesn't work with it?
Oops, yes, that's correct. A couple of people have asked for the psedbtool source to see if they could make it work with PSE 9, but I haven't heard back their results.
    A couple more suggestions:
    - Use my Any File plugin to start importing all files from whatever root folder you keep your pics in -- browse to the root folder, click Choose Selected, and the list of all files under the chosen folder that aren't in the LR catalog will be displayed.  You can copy and paste that list.  (Don't click Import to complete the import.)
    http://www.johnrellis.com/lightroom/anyfile.htm
    - Add a dummy keyword to all the photos in your LR catalog, and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File. This will have the side effect of changing the date-modified of every file in your catalog. In a command prompt, type this command:
    dir /b /od /s /tw root-pictures-folder > allfiles.txt
This will list in "allfiles.txt" all files within your root pictures folder, in ascending order of date-modified -- the files not in the LR catalog will be at the top.
    - Use the LR/Transporter plugin to list all the files in your LR catalog.  Use the "dir" command above in a command prompt (without the /od switch) to list all the files in your root pictures folder.  Use Word, Excel, or a Unix/Linux "diff" command to find the files that are in one list but not the other.

  • Moved Library some files not found, what next?

Just moved my Library and renamed it. Tested it and conclude that 30% of my music files seemed to reside in 2nd Library which I removed (after backing up). These files can no longer be found by iTunes. I can restore the backup and try to locate the files, but that would return me to a double library files structure whic I would like to avoid.
So my question is: How do I best consolidate my library?
    Is this right?:
    1) Restore backup Library to New disk and Folder location (i.e. physically add the files to the structure)
    2) Locate the files by trying to play again and opting to locate when prompted.
    OR
Use the consolidate function once I have restored.
(I donlt quite understand what the consolidate function does - though it sounds like its just the right tool)
Thanks for any advise on this before I proceed...
P.S. Yes I did opt not to consolidate during the move process when prompted by the iTunes system. That may have been a mistake...

It's probably easier to just drag them back into your itunes library, and delete the references to the ones from the C: drive.
Otherwise you will have to locate each song's new path.
As you've discovered, it's a bad idea to move file locations outside of itunes. It stores the absolute path to each file, so if it changes, it can't find it.

  • Latest iTunes update moved some (but not all) Music Videos to Film catalogue.

iTunes has moved 1 of my music videos (Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.) to Films so now it appears in my film list instead of my music list. It had somehow changed some of the detils to match one of the films in my Films list (Simon Peggs 'Paul') including it's name (at first I though it had just replaced Pauls image with one from the Gorrilaz song).
Going into the Get Info menu option to change file types from Film to Music Video is impossible as the 'media kind' dropbox is set to 'Film' and greyed out.
I've tried deleting and re-downloading it from iTunes but it puts it in the same place. Any ideas how to get this to move back to the music list?
I've noticed that a lot (although, not all) of the music that I've purchased through iTunes is now duplicated (with a cloud download icon) and was wondering if it was related to this?

  • OCR works without issue on some files, not others?

    Acrobat 10.1.1
While working with converting presentation slides to OCR and exporting them I am only able to get some PDFs to properly OCR. I am using the same process though it seems it simply won't take on some while it does others.
Tools > Recognize Text > In this file > (Default settings) Ok
and yet I get different outcomes.
Is it possible that background colors/type color/font etc. are conflicting with the OCR process? Again keep in mind these are presentation slides that have been converted into PDFs that I am attempting to OCR for export into Word.
    Thanks.

Most of the time you would not be able to OCR such documents because they are not pure graphics. OCR in Acrobat can only be done on pure graphics. If there is else on the page, OCR will not work. A work around is to save the document as a TIFF and then import all the TIFF files produced into a new PDF and run OCR on that. Be careful to use a high enough resolution, the other aspect than can cause OCR to fail (there is a minimum resolution -- 200 or 300 dpi).

  • SOLVED: Some files not being picked up with File: protocol

    Hello all,
I'm doing some testing of the B2B server on a laptop and seeing some weird behaviour. I have the B2B server set up much like the 850 inbound scenario for the tutorial, except that I am using AS2 over generic exchange with a FILE: transport server. I have "Shoppers" set up as the remote trading partner.
Now for the weirdness. If I put a file in the incoming directory called "ACME_850_4010_1_12345.edi" (it's the one I used for the tutorial, it is picked up fine by the B2B server; it errors out (as expected) because I don't have a trading partner called "ACME" in my setup. However, if I drop a file in the incoming directory called "Shoppers_850_4010_1_12345.edi" with the same exact content as the ACME file - the B2B server never picks up the file to process it. The other weird thing - after putting the Shoppers file in the directory, the B2B server just stops picking up files from that directory altogether until I restart the B2B server.
    Any ideas?
DOH - files were not exactly the same. Missing carriage return at the end of the file. Adding it seems to have solved the issue.
    Best regards,
    John

    Hello John,
Trading Partner identification by default is based on the Exchange protocol and in your case of Generic Exchange , it is based on name of the file or the Directory name depending on the following property.
    Property:           oracle.tip.adapter.b2b.allTPInOneDirectory
    Type:           boolean
    Default Value:      false
    Description:
If set to true, enables the identification of all files dropped into a particular directory with the trading partner name identified by the directory name: Example: E:\Partners\Acme
The default is to identity each file by prefixing the file with the Trading Partner name Example: Acme_orders.xml
To debug this issue, please enable transport trace and go through the log.

  • File not compatible- won't open in CS 5

I have an image that I opened from Lightroom into PS CS5- it opened as a NEF (raw) file. I worked on it and saved it several times while working on it as a PSD. Now, when I go to open that PSD (from my external hard drive), it says that the file is not compatible with my version of PS. (It's the version I used to create the file.) Background: I tried updating Camera Raw last week, but it said that I first had to update PS Manager and something happened where that wouldn't update, so I gave up. I'm on a MAC version 10.6.6

By the way, Peter, I had meant to note. In the other thread you cited, you say:
    >
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread:  0  Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
    >
This kind of crash at that location often means a bad font, or so I've been told.
This is actually an incredibly common failure, and it is much much more generic than bad fonts. It could be caused by bad fonts, but it could be caused by almost anything.
This indicaets a program has tried to defeference a pointer whose value is zero. That is, some function was passed a reference to some part of the program's memory (typically pointing to some data structure. It could be a number, a string, an TexttFrame, another function, a file, really anyting), and instead of that reference being an address, it was zero. And the function didn't check to see if thie address was valid, it just tried to read from address zero. Which, under many operating systems, including OSX, generates a trap and causes a crash.
So it's necessary to look at the stack trace to see what function generated the error. And that function was probably called be some other function by anothre function etc., and the fault is probably further upstream. If, e.g., the IDML export code calls the system's fprintf() function with a null pointer, the crash might be in fprintf(), but it would be the fault of the IDML export code.
Sometimes the faulting address might be more unique. Like if the pointer not zero but say, 3. There probably aren't too many cases where a pointer gets initialized to 3 by accident, so it might usually be the same thing. But address zero is incredibly common. (So are fun ones like 0xdeadbeef and 0xfafababe and 0xcafecafe).
Cheers. I wonder what happened with bizcomm...

  • Consolidate library only moving some files

I tried consolidating an iTunes Library to a new folder on an external drive, but it is only copying over about 1/3 of the files that are in the iTunes Music folder on my internal drive. How can I correct this situation? Please help, this is urgent.

When you copied everything back it should have been as it was before.
Now it sounds like you have two issues - it only copies 1/3 of the files when you tell it to consolidate,
and it is asking you to find some of the files.
The path you set in prefs only effects where new stuff you import will go.
itunes is too stupid to look there for missing files all by itself.
A long standing problem IMO. itunes knows where files are when
they are first imported to the library, after that all bets are off if you move files around.
What I don't understand is why when you copy the original files back to
where they were before that things do not work. This has worked for me when I had to restore from
a backup when the primary disk failed. Try this, start itunes
by double clicking the itunes library file you copied back to the
    internal disk.
Sorry I could not be more help. To be honest I think you might be screwed and have to start over. I think you may have changed more than one thing at once in a panic to get things working again.
    Good luck
