Hi:
See if performing each of Resolution Steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 from the link below restores functionality to the DVD drive.
One of them normally will.

  • Burned dvd has sound when played on computer, silent in dvd player

I have a file from final cut express. The dvd's burned just fine using idvd 06. When I try to burn a dvd with idvd 08, the sound is present when I play the dvd on the computer's dvd player, and on the portable dvd player, the dvd is silent in the jvc dvd player. I read in the help topics that older dvd players might not play home burned discs, which seems ridiculous - I didn't have this problem with 06. Is there a preference I'm missing? The file, video + audio, is 670 mb. I've tried making an image file and burning a disc with that (by dragging the file onto the disc - is that how to burn an image file?) - the picture looks fine, the audio is still missing. I'm using maxell discs, and have tried "best performance" burn quality.
    thanks in advance -

After looking at my post yesterday, I can see it was a bit harsh, sorry! We all have ways of doing things, it just that in my experience after wasting considerable time and money, trouble shooting over the years, the suggestion of a once a year install, has really reduced issues with my up-time.
If you look at it this way, Apple always releses a new OS once a year, so for me, its a good time to freshen up the OS an clean out any issues I've had with the functionality of the Mac.
A good example was this last upgrade to FCP Studio. If any of the old preferences from FCP or DVD SP were left behind, many people, (here) had issues with performance, or a working system at all and yes for many tossing the preferences helped. For me, the 3 hours of doing a freash install, was worth a full years up-time, (but that's my preference) but as you pointed out, many times not nessary.
PDTV, again, I apoligize for the poor way I posted and I do respect your opinion on this matter, I however do have a different approch to this, due to time I had wasted in the past. I hope you can respect mine and others approch to this.
Again, I meant you no disrespect. I hope you accept my apology.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • Problems with IDVD not properly playing on my tv's dvd player

I made a movie in iMovie using the scrapbook theme.  I produced a DVD on iDVD.  The DVD will not play on my televsion's DVD player properly.  Part of the picture is missing. Any help?

    Hi
iDVD 6 has two levels of qualities.
    • Best Quality (movies up to 120 min) - slightly lower quality than - se below
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min) - Highest quality on final DVD
    in iDVD’08 there is even a Pro-Quality (120 min) - very good.
If You need to press in more - You lose quality - even worse than VHS.
    • Then You need another program to do the .mpeg2 code eg Roxio Toast™
or COSTLY - Copressor (part of FinalCut Studio bundle) Here You should
be able to squees in about 4h on a SL DVD. BUT still quality is reduced.

  • NEW Satellite A505 - Blu-ray won't play on WinDVD or Toshiba DVD player

I purchased a Satellite A505 (Windows 7) with a Blu-ray disc player that was pre-loaded with WinDVD, Toshiba DVD player, and one other player (?) - all this software was added 12/21/2009 (by the manufacturer). When I put in a Blu-ray disc WinDVD stops responding and I have to start the task manager to "end task." The Toshiba player says "media not supported." I used the recommended compatibility settings (Windows XP) and it says "incompatible application." I tried using a Sony Vaio w/ Blu-ray and had no problems with the same disc using WinDVD. I don't know what's wrong (and I'm not super tech savvy) - my settings, my drivers, my hardware... ???
I also downloaded the free trial of Corel's WinDVD 2010 and it wouldn't play on that either...
*Note - my model number is A505-S6012 but I can't find this as an existing model on any of the Toshiba sites. It was delivered to the store around 1/4/10, so it's brand new. The A505-S6990 has most of the same features though.

    jacuielaura,
I had the exact same issue with the Win DVD BD that was preloaded on my A505-S6014 when I purchased it. I myself also downloaded the Win DVD 2010 free trial and it did not work. Reason being is that they are only allowing people to trial the DVD version of Win DVD 2010 and not the Win DVD BD 2010. I also tried Cyberlink's PowerDVD and it worked but it digitized terribly. So I uninstalled both trials and went to support.toshiba.com and found what I needed to fix it.
I recommend you uninstall the original Win DVD BD version you have and any trial editions you downloaded and follow what I have listed below to fix your problem.
This is only a recommendation. Uninstall and install software at your own risk. If this fix doesn't work for you then you will have to call Toshiba and request a disc to reinstall your original software you uninstalled.
This is how I fixed mine:
Go to Support > Download > then choose your category (Laptop) then your Family (Satellite) then you're model #(A505-6012). Or you can just enter S6012 in the search box and it should bring up a list of all Laptop models with S6012 in them. Choose yours and click Go.
Now from the two drop down lists choose which Operating system: (Windows 7 64 bit) should be what you have, then choose Blu-Ray in the 2nd drop down list.
Download and SAVE these files to your desktop or My Downloads folder so you do not have to search for them again after you reboot.
You should now see this listed:
WinDVD BD for Toshiba for Windows 7 (32/64)(v8.0; 11-05-2009; 176.1M)
Also you will need to download the (Intel Management Engine Interface driver) which is listed in the drop down list under Utility (2nd page):
Intel Management Engine Interface for Windows XP/7 (32/64)(v6.0.0.1184; 10-08-2009; 6.39M)
Reboot after each installation even if it doesnt tell you to.
After both downloads have been installed and the OS is completely loaded again, insert a Blu-Ray disc and hopefully it should automatically play.
P.S. When playing Blu-Ray's I turn my power management to Performance. This may also help.
    Good luck!

  • DVD will play on MacBook not on DVD player

I burned a slideshow with music using iDVD. On the MacBook it plays fine. On the dvd player the music is clear, but the pictures scroll vertically on the screen like on old film projector. I decreased the burnspeed to 1x with no effect. I am using DVD+R and they work fine when my wife burns things on her PC.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
When iDVD starts to behave funny then it usually is corruption to this file that's
    the cause.
    This is very common.
    • Quit iDVD
    • Locate it at - Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and it is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
    • Move it to desktop - or trash it
    • iDVD will make a new error less one at next start-up of iDVD
To set up a new user account and log into this does the same - but discards
lot's of other eventually faulty ref. files.

  • Im making a photo slide show using imovie. how will i make a dvd copy that can play in both pc and dvd player.  i dont have an idvd anymore. m using a mbp early 2011 osx 10.8.5

im making a photo slide show using imovie. how will i make a dvd copy that can play in both pc and dvd player.  i dont have an idvd anymore. m using a mbp early 2011 osx 10.8.5.
after making the photo slide show, i clicked share>export movie.  after which i burned using toast. the file became a .mov.  i tried playing it in my mac and it worked. my fear now is will it also play in a regular dvd?... i read from google that mov files won't run in dvd players.  what format should i convert it to so it'll play in a dvd player.  can you suggest a faster way i can burn my projects for it takes me almost an hour to export.  im going to make 28 slideshows for my kids in school. *=( if i need to do this process 28 times, i may not be able to finish it on time.  please suggest a software or an alternative as to how i should do this... m more comfortable using imovie than iphoto.  thanks and i hope to hear from someone soon *=j

Thank you QuickTimeKirk...used toast to burn project... my project was in .mov, i tried to play it a dvd player, it did play... will try again tomorrow using another dvd player just to be sure it'll will really work with dvd players.  thank you again for your reply *=)

  • DVD Movies won't play after 10.4.10 / DVD Player 4.6.1 Updates...

CDs will boot fine, blank DVDs will mount fine, but when I insert a DVD movie; the drive won't mount and the DVD player will not play my discs. I currently have a Pioneer DVR-109 installed in my PowerPC G5. Any information or help please.

    SOME GOOD NEWS!
IT DEFINITELY IS A TIGER ISSUE... here's a little workaround... although in a tricky way, i got my commercial dvd's to finally play. do the following and let me know if it will work for you as well.
    -insert a movie dvd (commercial)
-when told that the disc is not readable and prompted to eject or ignore hit ignore
-you will not see the disc mount on your desktop
-open vlc and hit play. choose "disc" for destination and hit okay (don't try with apple's dvd player, IT WILL NOT WORK)
-you will now see the movie title in your playlist, select it and play it... it works!!
good luck and until we find a permanent fix we can still watch movies on our macs! BTW, i used vlc 0.8.6c for this test on 10.4.10. incase you're not familiar with vlc, it's a free video player and you can download it from number of places on the internet.

  • I have been looking for a solution for making my videos capable of playing on anything such as: DVD player, Mac, PC, etc.

I have been looking for a solution for making my videos capable of playing on anything such as: DVD player, Mac, PC, etc. I have not found a format that will play with all of these. Is there a format, software, or do you encode it? I am new to production. I can make a video and make it work for a certain thing just not all.

There is no such thing as universal format and that is that. You are looking for the magic pearl that doesn't exist and rather than waste your time on a futile search, it would be better to actually read up on the various formats and their limitations, including how playback devices may or may not support this and that.

  • Isymphony 19" LCD tv with built in dvd player

I just setup my Isymphony tv with built in dvd player. I put in multiple dvd's in the player and all came back saying they were bad discs even though they were fine. Any advice on the issue?

THe dvd player sounds like it is malfunctioning...
The problems with combo untis like yours is once the disc player dies, it really isn't cost effective to repair them.

  • Can videos from my dropbox be played on sony blu ray dvd player BDP S580?

can videos from my dropbox be played on sony blu ray dvd player BDP S580?

Hello ptsotsos, thank you for your message. Welcome to SONY Community!
Unfortunately the Blu-ray disc player cannot play videos from dropbox. When the Internet video device is connected to an active network connection, you can browse web sites or surf the Internet. However, the built-in browser is not designed to replace the web browsing functionality of a computer.
NOTE: Web pages may not display correctly and some web functions such as downloading or saving Internet content may not work properly.
    Hopefully this post helps you!

  • Does the new imac come with a cd/dvd player/burner?

Does the new imac come with a cd/dvd player/burner?

It's $80.00. You can buy other externals for less, I think, but only the Apple one will work with Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows and any other applications that will only work with an "internal" optical drive.
If this isn't important for you, then explore less expensive alternatives. Check out OWC for example.

  • Sound Distortion playing DVDs with Audigy2 Va

Last time I have problems playing DVD movies on my computer: The sound is distorted
by scratches like an old vinyl. I am using a SB Audigy 2 on Win XP. I have tried several software DVD players, reinstalled the old drivers from CD and cleanly installed teh newest drivers via internet auto update. I also tried to update my VIA chipset drivers, deactivated several background programs etc.
I found out that disabling the sound acceleration in DXDiag removes the sound distortion but then the sound (speech, effects) within a movie are extremly quiet compared to the music.
Another thing: First I deinstalled completely the software and drivers from my audigy to replace it with new ones. Then I had to notice that the new Audio Control Center does not support the option to send bass-frequencies to my subwoofer. I could set the speakers to 5. but had no chance to get my subwoofer working. At the moment I have status quo by using new drivers, but my old creative applications for configurating my speakers.

Ijust checked the preferences, go to Disc Setup and on the bottom in the Audio section, check off the box that says "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression" see if that helps.

  • Having sound distortions in games with M-Audio Revolution 7.1

I'm having sound distortion problems with a couple of games. I think this started a few OS X updates ago, but not sure which one. Two known games are Quake 3 and Quake 4. When I run either of them, the sound is deep and distorted.
I'm sure an update of OS X broke m-audio's revolution driver. I currently have driver version 1.4.1. I only have distortions when sending sound output to my sound card. Sound sent to internal speaker comes out fine. I also tried with a freshly created user and freshly reinstalled driver & prefs. Same problem.
I've tried M-Audio's site with no luck for solutions. It's been a year or so since they have updated it.
Is anyone else having similar experiences with their M-Audio Revolutions?
