Moved to tiger - now gui won't correct save changes to main.cf

one of my it guys setup a brand new box running tiger server and migrated all of the mailboxes over to it
the problem is that if for example I go into the gui and change the "always_bcc" address feature in the gui, it does'nt update it in the main.cf file
I've tried using a stock main.cf file and it still doesn't work
i tried deleting all of the custom stuff at the bottom of main.cf and resave from the gui and always_bcc is never saved in there even though there is a value for it in the gui
I had to go into main.cf.default and set the postfix default from always_bcc= nothing to contain the address i want it to go to
but the problem here is that I can't seem to trust the gui to save changes
I've tried repairing permissions, it still doesn't work
so now I can't trust the gui at all. what could possibly be causing this?

At our school we have always relied on editing the main.cf manually and not 'trusting' Server Admin to make the correct changes.
Open a Terminal shell, sudo pico /private/etc/postfix/main.cf

What happens when you try to change them?
Try:
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Moved catalog and now LR won't open it by default. Help?

I'm running LR2 (I know, first step, UPGRADE!), but in the meantime, I had to move my catalog because my drive got full. Under the Backup dialog box I chose the new location. But when I just click on the LR icon to open the program it opens with the default C: drive catalog location that it first installed with. Then I open the specific catalog from in the program and relaunch it. I have LR set to bring the dialog box everytime I start LR since I don't use it everyday. So I back it up when the dialog comes up and when it's done it goes right back to the default catalog with none of my library in there. Why do I have to keep opening the catalog manually?? It's driving me insane at this point. Can someone provide some tips please?? Thanks.

Double-click the moved catalog and Lr will open with it.
But in fact, you did not move the catalog at all. you made a backup of your catalog, and that is what you should do.
But making a backup catalog does not mean that Lr now opens with the backup catalog.
Having a backup means that there are now 2 catalogs: the "working" catalog and the backup catalog. If you had only one (1) catalog, you wouldn't have a backup.
Lr still opens and works with your "working" catalog. That is normal and expected.
If you want to move your "working" catalog do this:
Close Lr. In your OS (Mac Finder / Win Explorer) move (not copy!) the catalog to a different location. Then double-click the moved catalog and Lr will open with it and will use the new location as "working" catalog. But I recommend that you do not put your "working" catalog on the same drive as the "backup" catalog. If that drive fails, you have neither a "working" nor a "backup" catalog. Not good!
But I wonder why you would say your drive got full. Usually the catalog doesn't fill a drive, but your photos are.
Moving the catalog doesn't move your photos.
What you don't know, maybe, is that the catalog and the photos don't have to be on the same drive. So you can leave your catalog on the C-drive and have your photos somewhere else.
If you want to move your photos, you best do this in Lr. If you do it in your OS, you will have to re-link the photos and image folders.

Moved MS Office now Word won't open

Bought a ibook G4 just to learn Mac. When I get familiar with Mac, I intend to covert completely from PC. My problem began when I added MS Word to the dock by dragging the icon. It worked fine the first time I opened it. Now it doesn't open. The error message declares that it cannot access the library. It also says that Word was moved from its original folder. Further, MS Office appears to be "stuck" on my desktop. I was trying ti add it to the dock as well, but I must have made a wrong move. I've tried moving it to other folders, but it does not appear to want to move. In PC, this would be called a shortcut and I would simply delete it. On Mac, this appears to be an application that I inadvertently moved from its proper location. Can anyone tell me how to undo what ever it was I did.

Upgraded Panther to Tiger: now Mail won't download email from Sympatico

Hi there,
If someone wouldn't mind advising... I just ugraded my wife's powerbook from Panther to Tiger (10.4.9)... and even though her email settings are still the same (incoming server, outgoing server, etc.), Mail won't collect her email from the Sympatico site.
Do I have to get rid of her Mail prefs and re-boot? Or something? (if it's the former, which prefs exactly, and where are they?).

You can always delete your account from Mail and re-create it... There are 2 kinds of account settings for a Sympatico account:
The "old ones" that have the same settings since Sympatico started 10 years ago:
Username: b1**##
Password: access password
Incoming mail (POP3): pop6.sympatico.ca
Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp1.sympatico.ca
Port server 25 for Outgoing (SMTP)
Port server 110 for Incoming (POP3)
The other Sympatico e-mail is the enhance one with MSN. The settings are differents and the authentification is different. Any new Sympatico accounts since June 2004 are on that new plaform:
Username: [email protected]
Password: e-mail password
Incoming mail (POP3): pophm.sympatico.ca
Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtphm.sympatico.ca
Verify that your server is set to requires anthentiation with agin your Sympatico e-mail and Sympatico password;
Both servers, Outgoing and Incoming, require a secure connection (SSL)
If you are not sure witch is what try to login online at: http://www.sympaticomail.sympatico.ca it will tell you if can upgrade to new enhance e-mail or if you sign in like a Hotmail account if you are already enhance.

MOVED: Updated Bios, Now Overclocking Won't Work

Tried changing the ratio and vcore in the Control Center without any Bios changes, it changed and saved, 4.5 ghz with 1.310v . Then my pc went to blue screen. What would stop the overclocking in this set up:
Enabled: Internal PLL Overvoltage, Execute Disable Bit, Intel Virtualization Tech
Disabled: Limit CPUID Maximum, Power Technology, C1E Support, Overspeed Protection, Spread Spectrum
Also Turbo enabled.

My apple store got switched to American, I'm Canadian and now it won't let me change it back how do I do it, and its not my apple I.D. That is Canadian my App Store isn't.

Why won't pages save changes?

I have written a large (240 page document) in pages. It contains text and graphics. The problem is that when I edit and make changes, the changes do not get saved, even though Pages appears to be saving. This occurs even when I type Save As and then ask the program to replace the existing file. If I type an entirely new file name, the changes are saved. What gives!

welcome to the Pages Discussions. Have a look at the document in a Finder window and do a "command"+"i" shortcut on it. In the second section of the appearing info window at the bottom there is a checkbox for "Protected". Is it checked? If yes, uncheck it. Or what do you see for the access privilegs at the bottom of the info window? Make sure you have the correct access privilegs for the file. To change the privilegs you need an admin password (if your account have no admin rights).

Why won't iTunes save changes to my music library?

It seems like every time I update my music library (i.e. add ratings and such), it resorts to the default the next day (i.e. ratings are lost and changes are restored). Can anyone explain why iTunes won't let me make changes in my music library?

It could be several things but we need fuller information. If I go into a doctor and just say I have a cough it could be an allergy, it could be dusty, it could be flu, it could be cancer... If I say it only happens when I work in a bakery that provides a clue. If I say I also have a fever that provides more information.
Is this only happening with purchases from the iTunes Store? Possibly something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both). I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself). There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time.

You can't use your account's balance for gifting, you can only use a credit card - your balance can only be used to buy content for yourself. Until you pay what you owe iTunes then you won't be able to download any items from the store on that account.

What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

Well, for FCP to see this file structure and recognize it, you need to download the Canon XF Log and Transfer plugin...

Meaning that they didn't back up the full card structure? Lordy...very few shooters do this and it is maddening. If you don't have the full card structure, even with the plugin, FCP cannot log and transfer.

I tried just about everything and finally brought my Ipod touch to the apple store. The tech installed ios 4.3.5 but still no WIFI. He recommended a $149 exchange - not really a bad deal with a new battery and 90 day warranty, but I thought I'd try again.
The "solution" was bizarre. On YouTube was a fix involving taking the motherboard out and heating the wifi components with a heat gun.
I did not like that idea, but another involved turning it off, putting it in the freezer for five minutes and restarting. It worked! I must admit the fix does not work reliably, so I may still go for the exchange. Still, I am now convinced that it is a hardware problem. i remember back in the old days, TV repairmen sprayed a suspected bad resistor with Freon. The chilled component would work long enough to identify what needed replacement. Perhaps something similar is happening here.
For anyone wanting to try this, I found it more convenient to place the back of my ipod on a frozen cold pack until the wifi is restored. It seems to happen when condensation forms on the face. I used a towel to wipe off the moisture so as not to add to the problem.
