MOVED: Trying to overclock 1055T CPU...

After realizing something.. this CPU batch can't handle high NB frequencies.  After dropping the multi to x6 and 286 being the current FSB, this processor is chomping on numbers like a champ.  Anything over 2Ghz on the HT link or NB really screwed things up for me.  Weird thing though.. after changing the voltages to 1.4V, the CPU voltage according to CPU-Z state it fluctuates to 1.42V even.  I know the maximum is 1.475 for this chip but I would like to keep temps as low as possible to keep this overclock.  The RAm being 1333mhz ddr3 dual channel modules (2x2GB), it's actually able to hold 1525 (286x1:2.66) mhz ddr3 quite nicely at stock volts.   The ht link and NB freq is at 1716 mhz.  The batch I have is 1030FPMW.

I try to OC my CPU but here's the dilemma:
I only use DDR3-1333 Dual channel memory from OCZ (it's in a 2x2GB kit populating slots 1 and 2 on my 890fxa-gd70 mobo).  When setting the multiplier on the RAM to ANYTHING above or BELOW 1/3.33, I get errors when running prime95 instantly.  In my experience (please, tell me if I'm WRONG) the AMD motherboards don't like increased or decreased RAM multipliers being edited from the setting listed above.  Are there any settings I can toggle or tinker around with in my motherboard's BIOS that would stabilize the multiplier so that I can drop the multi and keep the DRAM speeds closer to spec?  If prime95 fails instantly on all threads, but at stock is fine with all the same hardware in the computer, all I can blame it on is the RAM multiplier.  Any advice you folks can share so that I can get this proc to 4.0 ghz?  I am still waiting on my g.skill ddr3-1800 sticks to come back from RMA.

I did it, I wasn't using the right keys.
Dose anyone know where I can find fan settings in MSI bios? My system might be set to quiet mode and I'd like to change that.
Someone recently told me "Also check in bios that the spot the pump cord is hooked to is set to something like performance mode or high mode" Does anyone know where this options is?
    Thanks

I appreciate the two replies I got although I haven't had time to try and implement any of them.  As for the BIOS and drivers, they are all the latest including chipset.  As for my speed goal, I don't really know, I haven't thought about that.  I just wanted to try and overclock this CPU, I mean it is bad right out of the box but of course my son plays WOW on this rig and wants to see what it will do and so do I to a much smaller degree.  I don't know why he is so excited to see what it will do, he already owns people in WOW as he has absolutely no lagging what so ever and runs circles around people, they are dead before they even know they have been hit.  Anyway, I will be attempting this OC this weekend and will try to do some reading in the links you have provided which I greatly appreciate.  I have to admit I thought the OC process would be much easier on this MB due to some of the reading I have done and due to the claims of MSI.  Don't get me wrong, this is a great MB and is more stable than anyother MB I have ever owned.  As a matter of fact, I have built 7 systems around the board for family, friends, and customers and all have been very happy with it.  I especially like the warranty and support that MSI provides, they also build boards that are comparable to ASUS boards but at a much more reasonable price in my opinion.  Thanks once again for the replies and I hope I can get this thing OC'd and I am especially interested to see how high it will go at stable settings.  I will report this weekend.

polishedcar are you overclocking in bios ?
where are you getting stuck at with your fsb ?
what are your voltages at for your current overclock ?
Yes, I'm overclocking in BIOS. Not quite sure what you mean by your second part, but basically I can up to 1333.33 FSB and then after that if I boot up it still reads as 1333.33 FSB, but the BIOS says the correct FSB that I overclocked to. I reverted back to 1333.33 FSB (3GHz with Q6600) for now so I don't have the voltages for the higher overclocks, 3GHz runs fine and stable though.
    I don't think it's software and I'm 90% sure EIST is disabled.
EDIT: I seemed to have fixed it! I disabled "Spread Spectrum" and it worked! As a test, I tried 1350 FSB and CPU-Z reads it correctly.

Ok, to start there will be no laughing concerning this issue!  I am a retired engineer of over 30 years and I have never overclocked one system.  I have built over 200 for family, friends, and customers but never overclocked one of them.  Here is what I am working with:
    Intel i7 970
    MSI X58 Pro-E
    24 GB Kingston RAM
4 x Intel 240 GB SSD in RAID config
    WD 2 TB Data Drive
Corsair HD 50 in push/pull config
2 x MSI GTX 560's in SLI config currently turned off
    Rocketfish Modular 900 Watt PSU
    Sony 32 inch Monitor
    Windows 7 Pro
I have tried changing a couple of things and all it did was crash, HELP!

  • Help! Can't overclock via CPU Ratio (multiplier) with K7T266 Pro (MS-6380)?

I have a Athlon 1.2 GHz (266 MHz FSB) that I'm trying to overclock via the clock multiplier on my K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) mobo.
Right now the CPU ratio is set to Auto in the Hardware Monitor in the BIOS, but I know that it's using a clock multiplier of 9 (9 x 133 Mhz = 1197 Mhz, which is about 1.2 Ghz)
The only way that I can overclock this CPU is by increasing the FSB above 133 MHz.  That works, but I'd like to avoid that as the USB no longer works when the FSB is past 138 MHz (i.e. I can't OC higher than 1242 MHz through the FSB)
If I set the clock multiplier above 9 (ex: 9.5, 10, etc.) nothing happens.  I reboot and my CPU is still at 1.2 GHz.  Its as if I can't OC by increasing the CPU ratio.  I'd like to set it to 10 and run at 1.33 GHz but I can't.  Why is that?
If I lower my CPU ratio below 9, then the computer freezes up totally at bootup and I have to clear the CMOS to get it working again.
    THANKS!

    Hi,
You need to unloack the CPU, search google for closing L1 Bridges, then you can set it to anything you want

Did you reset your CMOS after the BIOS changes with the power cord removed? Which BIOS are you currently running?
    What is your memory configuration?
You have to accept that the P45 chipset only supports either DDR2-800 or DDR3-1066, anything above that is OC, which means that there is no guarantee that it will work with any amount of certainty/stability above the standard design specifications.
Also refer to the Intel specs regarding the P45 chipset here: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/p45/p45-overview.htm

  • Last time I overclocked a CPU Lynnfield had just been released!

I desperately need someone to hold my hand and help me overclock my new system as the last time I overclocked a CPU was when Lynnfield and the P55 chipset had just been released. Incidentally that was using my old MSI P55-GD80 (awesome board).
    New PC spec -
    MB - MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming
    CPU - i5-4670K
Memory - Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" 4*4GB 1600MHz
    Cooling - Corsair H100
    Case - Corsair 600T SE
    PSU - Corsair HX+ 750
All I've done so far is increase Vcore to 1.25V, change the multiplier to x45 and enabled XMP for the memory.
Anything past that is beyond my know how and all this talk of BCLK, PLL, CPU cache etc just makes my head hurt but explained properly I'm confident I could get to grips with it all.
Any help to get the most out of this cpu and motherboard would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds good to me if your getting [email protected] vcore... Wish I could use such small amount of voltage to be stable, I require about 1.44 at that speed for stability.

  • !!!!!I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MY CPU. BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY AMD ATHLON XP-MOBILE

    My configuration is this:
    Mainboard: MSI K7N2-DELTA2-FSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2500+ 1855MHZ
    Video Card: CAPTIVA Nvidia 6600GT 128MB 128bit
Hard disk: Internal Maxtor DiamonMax 10 300GB S-ATA 16MB Buffer
Audio Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Live 5.1 24bit
    Power Supply: 400WATT
    DVD drive: LG 16X
SO I OVERCLOCK MY CPU UNTIL 3200+ (2200mhz), AND IF I WANT TO OVERCLOCK MORE DURING "POST", BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE NEW VALUE (ES: FSB 200  / X11.5  = 2300mhz . DOESN'T RECOGNIZE).
PLEASE HELP ME OR CAN YOU TELL ME HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM???
    THANKS A LOT. BYE

Please furnish us some more info concerning the memory you are using and power output of the 3.3v - 5v -12v rails of your power supply along with the name of its manufacturer.
Some mobile cpus start up with a lower multiplier and then go to the bios to use the preset settings in the bios.  If the cpu can't start with the bios settings, it remains at its start up values.  Your mobile may not be able to run at a multiplier of 11.5 with a 200fsb.  Drop its fsb back to 166 (stock fsb 133) and see if you can run it at its rated multiplier of 14.  That will equal 2324mhz.
Overclocking is finding a balance between the fsb and the multiplier that allows you to get the most stable speed out of the cpu.
You also have not mentioned what vcore voltage that you are using or the temps.
The memory that I'm using are : V-Data 512x2 MB DDR CL 2,5
    The power supply is 400watt chassis, 3,3V, 12V, 5V.
I tell you that with the mainboard ASUS I did't have this problem with the multiplier because I put 11.5 x 200Fsb.

    Clear cmos.
Enter bios and load optimised defaults.
    Exit.
Re-enter bios and change user settings to your liking; ensure usb stuff is enabled.
    Save and exit.
    Shutdown and change keyboards.
    Report back.
I tried what you mentioned above several times and sometimes boot up would work without the PS2 keyboard, sometimes it would not. Clearing the CMOS never worked on this board. I pressed the clear CMOS button (with power cable disconnected) and it did nothing. I also upgraded to the 1.2 bios and that seemed to reduce the frequency of the "overclocking has failed" bootup failures, but it was still present. Also, with the 1.2 bios, I seemed to have more bootup hangs (raid, etc.) once I did get through the initial posting process.
    Power Supply Specs:
Antec Truepower 2.0 (480 Watt) - Haven't had an issue with thie PSU in my previous SLI setup.
    +5: 38A
    +12(1): 18A
    +12(2): 18A
    +3.3A: 30A
    -12: 1.0A
    +5: 2.0A
But at this point, it is a lost cause because the board is now toast (where is the PB and J!!!!). I left the PS2 keyboard connected, installed windows, installed some testing software, and did some performance checking, heard a "sizzling" sound from around the capacitors between the cpu socket and the rear board connetors, a quick burnt electrical smell, and the system powered off. Now the board won't power on. I checked the CPU, memory and cards and thankfully they are ok. So it appears the board is toast. I have already requested an RMA.
The first board I got was DOA, and now this board had issues from the first time I powered it on. It just seems like the K9N Diamond boards have some serious quality issues. I read the NewEgg reviews for this board and there are quite a few reviewers having DOA/posting type issues.

    hey,
I noticed this in your sig...."Custom liquid cooling driven by Apogee Drive Block/Pump, Coolit System CPU Eliminator Mod/Tecs and pump, TT T2MG Radiator"
I have a coolit eliminator that I plan on ripping apart fairly soon....from reading your sig and looking at your avatar it seems you have almost an identical cooling setup to what I'm about to do
few questions I have for ya:
    -what pump are you using?
-what kind of temps do you get with it?
-do you have some more pictures?
-my eliminator is still installed on my current system(squeals like a pig all day long tho) so I haven't had a chance to really examine it closely,Do they come apart fairly easy and will I need any rare screwdrivers or tools? (eg.like Nintendo Wiis tri-wing screws)
I'm thinkin of getting another eliminator (my friend has 1 w/ a broken pump he might sell me real cheap) and plumbing them both together than adding a rad and reservoir with a more powerful pump.
    nice system
edit:I don't mean to hijack your thread (I thought I PMed this lol)...pm me back if ya prefer
Thanks for not wanting to even though did Jack me just the same .
Please respond only to the with overclocking suggestions if you don't have a MSI P45 Diamond and if you do please share your settings in the afore mentioned format.
youeffsee, I would be more than glad to share info and pic's.  Please pm me because I don't appear to have those privileges yet or too unfamiliar with site and haven't fiqured out how to.

PirateDog, thanks for the advice but that didn't change anything.
I believe I have found the problem with low Gflops in IBT. It appears to be the RAM, I have run a benchmark called Passmark Performance Test 8 and it is showing my memory is only performing at half of what it was in my P8P67 and I beleieve that this can account for the GFlops being cut in half as well. The memory I have is 16GB of Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B. I have made sure that it is being detected as dual channel through CPU-Z and even tried pulling a pair just to see how it would run with just two sticks and no change. I have ordered some new RAM, 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A771ZWI/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item. If anyone knows if there is a setting in the BIOS that would cause this kind of behavior please let me know or if there is some other way to test how the RAM is truly performing.
