  • MOVED: K8 Diamond Plus Issues

This topic has been moved to AMD64 nVidia Based board.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=99169.0

Thanks for the replies.  If the drivers are not essential at the initial stage then that's fine with me - I should be able to install any drivers required from within Windows, which is as I first thought.  This leads me then to the main issue I am experiencing.
Once I've got into Windows and loaded on the nForce4 chipset drivers the system becomes extremely unstable.  The longest it can stay operational is about an hour before a brief BSOD followed by an immediate reboot.  This can happen whether I am at the machine or away with it locked, but it always happens.  When I get back into Windows, the OLA tells me an 'unknown device driver' is causing the issue - but nothing more than that.
I've run Eurosoft's PC-Check over all my hardware (outside of Windows), which reports all components are 100% error-free.  I am using the latest nForce drivers from MSI, as well as the latest BIOS (1.20).  Am using the latest Catalyst drivers from nVidia.  All Microsoft updates are applied.  My hardware is as follows:
    MSI K8 Diamond Plus (new)
    AMD64 X2 4400+
    2x 1GB Crucial Ballistix PC4000
    Crucial Radeon x1900xtx (new)
    Soundblaster Audigy LS
    Seagate Barracuda 120GB SATA
    Seagate Barracuda 200GB SATA
    BenQ DVD-RW
    QTechnology 560W PSU (36A on 2x12V) (new)
I really am out of ideas now having been troubleshooting this for over a week with no success.  I have been in discussion with Crucial as at first I thought the memory was at fault, but all diagnostics say otherwise - it's only in Windows that the problems arise.
I'd really appreciate any assistance or suggestions anybody may have here...
    Thank you.

I know this board can reach 300+ by reviews by Tom's Hardware. But I was wondering how I could get my FSB up there? I can't seem to get past the hurtle at 270. Anything above this will make the system fail to start up and I have to clear the BIOS again.
I lowered the HT to the equivalent of 3X, and CPU Multiplier to 8X using a venice core 3500+. I even tried adding voltage to the HT. I'm wondering if I'm missing something in this equation that stops me from getting 300+ FSB? The overclockable items are too many and unexplained.
If someone could spread some light on what else needs to be done, please tell me.
    My system is as follows.
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 3500+ Venice
    OCZ DDR600 Platinum Elite
    520 OCZ Powerstream

    Hi dude,
I have the similar problem as well.  Sounds like you are in the bad shape, but yeah, try to loose your RAM settings.  First, all settings auto seem to be good, but it's actually not the case.  You have to set TRC and TRFC as higher than 12 and 14.  I am seeting those to be 14, 18, and it seems to be working great.  It will be better to set the burst length as 4 beats.  I don't like this board coz I can't set the drive length to be weak instead of normal detected by the Windows.  My system can post, but I got problems of playing 3D demos and games, which looks like it's the problem of motherboard.  Not mature enough.
    My rig:
    AMD Athlon64 3700+ @ 2.7GHz
OCZ Platinum Elite DDR600 2.5-4-4-10 Dual Channel
    Leadtek PX6800GT @ 425/1200 at 2nd PCIe slot

  • K8N Diamond Plus- bios freeze & question about temp/voltage monitor

A weird issue I had right after I setup my mobo last night was that I could not access the "PC Health" portion of the bios.  If I tried selecting it, it would just freeze.  Is this a known issue?  I'm hoping a bios update may solve this one.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I was mostly just asking if this was a known issue, so I guess "no" is all the answer I need...  Now, what would be my best solution?  I am assuming bios update, is there anything else that I should consider?
But if it helps, as I said its a brand new build, so I'm running the default bios. 1.00.  My other components are:  Silverstone Zeus 560w, 2GB of G.Skill pc4000, Raptor 74gb, 7900gtx, Opteron 165.
Also, since my other thread was locked (I figured seperating two different topics would make it easier for people to respond to specific questions, I apologize,) here's my other question pasted:
"I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-
I am getting temps of about 31C idle, 41C load.  Nice temps yes, but I'm not sure how accurate those are.  That means that it is idling at 86F in a room that was probably in the high 70's, maybe 80.  Seems a little too good to be true, but then again, I am used to Intel's furnace-like temps
Its the voltage reading that has me a bit more concerned though.  Corecenter is reading my +5v as 5.36v, and my +12v as 12.28v.  The +3.3v is reading about spot-on at 3.33v.  I'm hoping that someone else who has this motherboard can tell me this- are the readings in Corecenter for this motherboard generally accurate, and should I be concerned about this?"
Thanks for any help you can give.  No sig yet because I just registered an hour ago, I'll work on it.

  • K8N Diamond Plus BIOS problems

Hi , just replaced my lanpartyUT sli-dr expert with K8N Diamond Plus mobo and having problems allready :D
    Just finished overclocking and now running at (250 x 11 x 800mhz x 1.300v+0.2v x dram/fsb 1/1 x 2.80v)
    Memory timings --> (3,7,14,3,2,8,2,2,1,3,200mhz(15.6us),1,16x,7x,7ns,5ns,0clk,DiCC:enabled,1T,8beats,reduce 00%... ...)
The problem is "BOOT" related... System is PRIME95 stable , but still when trying to "restart windows" or "reset" the system wont BOOT !!?
When i shutdown and then power up, the system boots perfectly !? What can cause this kind of behaviour :/
I have OC:d quite many systems , but this is new even to me

The windows core program shows htt link 1000mhz exact. Memory settings are all "manually" adjusted. Cpu vcore is 1.300 & extra voltage 0.2v=1.5v.
All ECC options are disabled.Hdd:s adjusted manually. Should i rise the (NB) voltage , or does that have anything to do with this !? Maybe not at 250fsb only :D Cool & quiet is disabled naturally :/ All fan controls disabled , connected directly to psu. No D.O.T,s or anything automatic overclocking enabled. The (L cache & data cache scrubs) are strange to me, so those are disabled. After flashed bios , enabled boot sector protection. All the mobo power connectors are in use (24pin+8pin+4pin) Could it be that the memory modules should be used on ports 3 & 4 (now on 1 & 2) ??

  • K8N Diamond Plus. Which PCI slot for Adaptec 39320

    Hi
I understand the Orange slot is not sharing resources with the other PCI slots.
Would this be best for my RAID card (its a 64bit RAID card going into a 32bit slot) or would it not work at all?
    thanks
    Charker

    Charker,
You will have to contact MSI Tech Support on that one, that question has crossed my mind to whether that is a full function PCI slot or not.  It is the only open PCI slot if you have a Graphics Card in the Secondary x16 slot.  If it is full function PCI slot, the only thing I know of that stop you using your 64-bit Controller in it are two Caps that may get in the way of the card over hang.
    Burmo,
You should know your subject before you make comments like that on the Forum.  Most all PCI 64-bit I/O cards will auto sense the slot type they are plugged into and adjust the interface to fit the slot capabilities.  Only problems using a 64-bit PCI card in a 32-bit PCI slot is you loss interface bandwidth and there maybe physical components mounted behind the 32-bit slot that will not allow the PCI 64-bit card to be inserted.
Luckily I have communicated with Charker enough, that I do not think you statement would have steed him wrong, but someone with a low level of computer knowledge, you could have cost him/her a lot of money.  Those Controller cards he is talking about cost two or three times what the Diamond Plus motherboard costs.  Next time research you answers before you make it, if you not sure and if you do not know do not comment.

  • K8N Diamond Plus BIOS Bootmanager?

On my old DFI Nforce3 board I had a feature that was really handy. At boot I could hit escape and then choose the drive I want to boot from in a quick popup menu. Does the K8N Diamond Plus have a simmular feature? I find this to be very usefull becasue I dual boot x64 and x32 winxp and not having to deal with software bootmanagers was really nice. Honestly it was the only nice thing that DFI board had

  • K8N Diamond Plus BIOS Beep

Is it normal for the BIOS to beep once when the system starts up?  I thought when I built it, it never beeped but after I got it settled in my room it beeps upon starting it up with the BIOS screen still showing.  Help!  Thanks in advanced.

I unplugged all of my USB connections and it didn't beep when it started up.  However, I have found a very peculiar quark.  I have a Logitech G15 Keyboard and when I start up my computer with it plugged in, it will cause the BIOS to give me the initial one beep saying I have USBs connected, but then I receive what sounds like a long followed by 2 short.  It's so weird.  It only does it when my keyboard is plugged in.  You guys ever hear of this?  Is there a fix for this?  Update BIOS maybe?
. . . . . just as Zuidema is stating about,  ..... i too, have those kybrd's; i have fixed my system's from these beep's >>>>> i just unplugged the "speaker's" from both system's and now i have no more of those irritating beep's to deal with at boot up.............but this is only " my " way of a fix for my system's..... ............

  • KN8 Diamond Plus BIOS, here are my settings that seem stable, Ideas Anyone?

So, has anyone figured out exactly what the following settings could/would/should be?   I know what they do, I just don't know why some of them should be soft settings or why some of them should ever change (NB-SB-CPU hypertransport for one)
But nonetheless, here's what I set, and it seems to be stable.  When I got all these set, SLI seemed to settle down and start working consistently with the EVGA 7800GT CO N517 cards.   Before these settings, most games crashed with SLI on, ran fine with it off....who knows

I agree with Apple Renegade on the Spread Spectrum settings. I remember reading that Spread Spectrum can conflict with wireless devices when you've got an 802.11 rig.

Put all the "Spread spectrum" stuff on disabled. U don't need it. The option is there cus of possible interference with radio's and cell phones nearby.

  • Wheres this K8N Diamond Plus bios V1.16?

I have a copy and am using it, it does not do to many thing up front, but there are a few changes I BIOS parameters, but it still set the memory module default in correctly, at lest it does for my memory.  Also, some random unexplained error messages no longer pop up during boot.  In addition, my system is running solid.
Send me a personal message with your e-mail address and I will send you a copy.  V1.16 comes with no grantee it will do any thing for you

  • DIAMOND PLUS BIOS

When do you think we'll get one??

I do not think they have one, I have been sent BIOS upgrades V1.16 and V1.18 to try and fix problems I have and V1.16 did not do much of anything that I have noticed and V1.18, if you set "MCT Timing Mode" to "Manual" the computer will not boot, until you clear the BIOS.
I complained about the BIOS default voltage setting for my memory modules was outside of the manufactures spec and they answered if the default voltage out of specification for the memory I should not use the memory in the MS-7220.  I know this an error, in the BIOS, because if you set the voltage manually, to any voltage setting within spec, the BIOS indicates it is a safe voltage to use with current installed memory.  Nevertheless, answer was not that the BIOS correct, not correct or we know will correct the problem. Their answer was not to use the memory, if the BIOS setting were in error.  Corsair lists the memory as one of preferred modules in the list of compatible memory for the MS-7220.
I beginning to think there is nobody home are MSI Tech Support, if you know what I mean.
