Bernard, Froggy and flobelex, much appreciated.  Can I ask if your answers remain the same in concern the G3 board as they did for the B3?
My reply would still be similar to Reply #2. Since you do have a 'G3', one benefit would be the ability to run a PCI-E 3.0 graphics card to it's full potential. Even PCI-E 3.0 is not all that superior in performance to earlier PCI-E 2.0 revisions. I have both, a GD80(G3) with a Sandy CPU and Ivy BIOS, and one with an Ivy. Rather than go into all the details, they both suck as far as I am concerned, with the Ivy CPU rig being the worse! The Ivy UEFI/BIOS's IMO are not ready for prime time. Even with two PCI-E 3.0 GTX680 cards in SLI, my eyes don't see any real world visual benefit over them running at PCI-E 2.0 on the other mainboard.
Soon as an ironclad user level procedure is developed that I can restore both primary and secondary chips back to Sandy BIOS's and ME7, I will do so. The Ivy CPU will be sold off. Performance wise, the 2700k is a kickbutt CPU compared to an Ivy on a 6 series chipset mainboard!

  • Updating the Z68A-GD80 (B3) bios to use ivybridge cpu

    Hi,
I bought the Z68A-GD80 (B3) board without realising that the ivybridge cpu's were only around the corner.  Anyway I thought there would be a large price gap between the sandybridge and ivybridge cpu prices, how wrong could you be.
I haven't built the rig yet as I was waiting for a bios update to accommodate the jump to an ivybridge cpu and to make sure the board could support a ivybridge i5 3570K cpu model.
As there is only a 10 to 18 pound gap between the two cpu models is there any reason not to go for the ivybridge version?  Also does the updated bios work properly?
    Many thanks.....John

  • Z68a-GD80 b3 bios fail ?

    Hi,
i recently bricked my p67a-gd65 b3 via bios flash (both bios corrupted), and i got the z68a-gd80 b3 in return from msi,
now i do need to say when i first turned on my pc i immediately noticed the blue bios light was flashing, so i knew the first bios had failed and its now running on the second bios.
So i figured, lets update the bios, and i downloaded the latest bios version 20.1. And so i booted into dos, started to update Intel ME and then it flashed the backup bios.... then it automaticly rebooted and the infinite bootcycle maraton began... everything powers on for 1 sec and it dies, powers on for 1 sec and it dies.. etc et, there are no blue bios lights on when powering on so i thing the bios is partly corrupted, enough to NOT boot, but also enough to not turn on the bios lights on the mobo anyone got any idea ? i really don´t want to rma the board cuz i just got it like a few days, and the RMA proces of the p67a/gd65 took almost 2 months :(
    Thanks in advance!

  • Z68A-GD80 (B3) Bios problem

    Hello experts,
I want to build up a new machine. So I bought the mainboard Z68A-GD80 and an Intel 3570k. This cpu was not supported from start of the mainboard but the seller told me that he updated BIOS to the newest version before selling the board and he ran it successfully with this BIOS. So I installed all componenets and what happened:
    - The dual bios LED tells me that primary bios failes.
    - CPU phase led showing phase 10 after switching on power and then changing to phase 2
    - Screen is dark
    - I dont have a case speaker so I cannot hear beeping
What do you suggest du do now?
    Thanks so much!!
    Florian

The CPU phase lights are first at ten then at two is nominal. Those aren't going to tell you what's wrong unless none of them are on.
If you kept the power disconnected from a power source, grounded yourself before touching the circuitry, carefully put the CPU in, put in compatible RAM in correct slots, then all of the PSU connectors attached securely to the motherboard connectors, double checked the heatsync is attached securely, then connected the power cord, then powered on the computer. If BIOS doesn't appear on the monitor, go back to the sales person.
The heatsync is very important, if the thermal compound isn't carefully applied, or the heatsync itself incorrectly attached; the computer will not boot.

  • How do I set EFI mode in Z68A-GD80-B3 BIOS?

I am trying to install Windows 7 64-bit onto a Seagate 3TB drive on a brand-new MSI Z68A-GD80-B3 motherboard but Windows keeps insisting on using an MBR style partition. When I connected the drive to another computer and used the Seagate utility to create a GPT partition, Windows refuses to install to it because it thinks the BIOS is in BIOS mode and not EFI mode.
There is a complicated guide to force the EFI installer bootstrap here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=184349 but having to do all this seems ridiculous for a motherboard UEFI BIOS that is advertised as having 3TB+ support.
So where is the setting (as I have seen on some other motherboards) that tells the bootable DVD/USB device that the BIOS is EFI and not legacy? Thanks!

Putting the system into RAID mode wasn't too bad since I was only experimenting with the setup anyway. However, after doing some research on how to use the EFI console it appears it is currently not possible to boot into a GPT disk when the ICH controller it set to RAID mode.  :(
I tried wiping the drive, I tried installing the GPT boot and then installing Windows to it. Interestingly, the error message isn't a showstopper - it is merely a warning unlike the other error messages. If you click on the GPT partition and say install Windows will indeed go ahead and install to it. But when the BIOS tries to boot to it, it cannot. My investigation with EFI console shows that when the controller is in RAID mode the hard drive doesn't even show up in the list of available devices in the console. Also when using the console to list the available EFI drivers, they only have 2 IDE drivers (one Intel, one Marvell) and 2 AHCI drivers (same deal) - no RAID.
Furthermore, we appear to no be alone. I also have a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 for evaluation and it too has the same problem, both confirmed by my own tests and a message thread much like this one that states the EFI BIOS manufacturers have not written the EFI RAID driver for the Sandy Bridge architecture yet.    (I don't know if this is true for any other mobo manufacturers besides MSI and Gigabyte.)
Anyway, I'm giving up for now on GPT and have formatted the 3TB drive as MBR. I am then using a special driver from Seagate that makes the remaining space appear as a separate drive. I suppose it would still be possible to combine this space if one were to create a spanning volume in Windows or Linux and combine the real 2TB volume with the virtual drive that contains the remaining space. But I'm going to just leave it as a separate volume.
The only troubling thing is when or if MSI finally releases a BIOS with an EFI RAID driver I'll feel compelled to format the whole system as GPT and start again. *grumblegrumble*

  • How to update  the restricted rows that were selcted using fetch

    Hi
I have to fetch  one row at a time from my staging table using JDBC Sender Adapter,  which is configured against AS400 DB2 and push it to R/3.
The select  SQL looks like this in JDBC Sender Adapter
         <b>select  jedata, oxruns from fxjrnep2 where oxsts=' '   fetch first 1 rows only</b>
                                       and
    update sql is
         <b>update suplib.FXJRNEP2 set OXSTS='SUC' where OXSTS=' ' </b>
The problem here is my select gets one row, which is what i want, but my update actually updates all the rows that satisfied the where condition oxsts=' ' instead of one.
I couldn't  use <b>fetch first 1 rows only</b> at the end of the update sql to update the selected row. DB2 does not allow  fetch in update sql.
Can anyone suggest solution here or recommend alternative?
    Best Regards
    Venkat

check for update query where u can club the select stmt u had used with udpate like:
update suplib.FXJRNEP2 set OXSTS='SUC' where OXSTS = (select jedata, oxruns from fxjrnep2 where oxsts=' ' fetch first 1 rows only
just need to try combinations of this type.
if still this is not working use a bpm and get all the records where OXSTS is null and process record one by one within a block

All you can do is try a full cmos clear w/ a bare bones set-up. What you should have done when you saw the blinking light was enable multi bios update in bios to recover the bad bios.
Probably the simplest thing to do is bring the board to a computer shop with an SPI programmer. It will probably cost around $50-$75 to get this fixed.

  • MSI Z68A-GD80 B3 bios problem :(

Hi... I've got a very strange problem with my motherboard. The bios diode is blinking (I know that it means my first bios has failed). But I tried fixing method from topic with GD65 and it didn't work. Any ideas?

Remove the PSU power cord, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS, reset making sure to enable BIOS update again, save & exit, & then see if the chip LED stops flashing.

  • Connecting my ssd on the Z68A-GD80 (G3)

Hi, I know that it seems a dumb question but should I be connecting my ssd to any sata or is there a sequence like memory slots.  I ask this as I had problems with the drives being recognized when connecting to sata 1/2 (the white ones).  Also is there a sequence when using the ssd as a caching drive along with an ordinary hard drive?

    Hi,
Thanks for the answers but can you tell me if I need a special sata cable for sata3 or can I use ordinary sata connection cables?
    Regards John
P.S I only ask as it is the first time that I purchased a motherboard with sata3 capabilities.
