  • Can I use the MSI Gaming App OC settings in Afterburner then uninstall Gaming Ap

    Hello all,
I finally bought an MSI GTX 760 TF OC Gaming Edition GPU last week. Unfortunately the OC isn't programmed into the BIOS and to get the highest Factory OC I need to use the MSI Gaming App. The problem is it does not start with Windows or remember your last Clock Selection.
I know Afterburner can start with Windows and apply your last selected profile.
    So can I......
    1. Open Gaming App and select OC.
Open GPU-Z and see how much the Clock Speed has increased.
     Restore the default Clock (Gaming).
Open Afterburner and apply the same increase to the clock value as the Gaming App gave me.
    Save the profile.
Tick the 'Start with Windows' box.
     Uninstall the Gaming App.
    2. Will the above effectively apply the same OC as the gaming App and therfore make the Gaming App obsolete?
    3. Also I've read on some forums that Afterburner will only OC the MSI card if the gaming App is installed. I'm away from home so cannot test any of this. Maybe this was the case with the original version of the gaming app. can anyone confirm?
    4. Also I've read people reporting that once the OC has been applied it is locked at this high clock and doesn't downclock when idle. From what I've seen the Gaming App does downclock depending on GPU demand. As does Afterburner. Can anyone confirm?
I don't know why MSI did things this way. It's a Gaming Edition card so there should be a way of applying the factory OC and leaving it set that way. The Gaming App is a nice simple little tool but as a bare minimum they should let us start it with Windows and automatically apply the last selected Clock profile.
Dragging the shortcut into the start-up folder doesn't work for me. And even if it did, the last profile selection is not remembered.
To be honest, the Gaming App is ideal for me but only if I can set it and forget it. There should be a box (like there is in Afterburner) that starts the Gaming App when Windows starts and applies the last Clock profile selected.
Now that would be simple. Afterburner is great and gives you lots of control. But I just want the OC that MSI have created. It should be set at BIOS level for a so-called OC Gaming Edition card.
From the official Afterburner Guide on this forum....
"Another thing which needs to be kept in mind is that maximum clockrates for the latest GeForce GTX7xx Gaming requires running >>Gaming APP<<. Switch to Gaming Mode (N770 TF 2GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 770 GAMING)) or OC Mode (N780 TF 3GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 780 GAMING)) to allow maximum boost clockrates."
    Many thanks in advance,

Sure you can set these settings (clock rate etc) in afterburner and you should be good to go. Just for stability, run a benchmark. It should be same OC as Gaming App applies, but GApp might change voltages (never used it so not sure).
Afterburner works with ANY brand's card. However MSI Gaming App not.
However if you change settings in Nvidia control panel in : 3D settings -> Global Settings -> Power management mode -> change from Adaptive to Prefer max performance. After this card will neved downclock even at idle.

  • MSI R48R4870-T2D1G-OC video card and the MSI K9A2 Platinum

I recently bought the new video card for my system the R4870-T2D1G-OC.
MSI stated that the power cord for the video is not a required, and the MSI board has its own connection for power to the video.
When I tried installing the new card all I get is a series of beeps, as if there is not video card installed. BEfore I send it back and replace it with another I would like to verify that it does not require the power connector and that perhaps I need to do something special before I repalce the card.
I have always used the MSI mainboards and never had a problem till now.

The system boots and I see the dos screen, then it goes black
You mean you see the BIOS logo / POST screen, and then nothing? So the card is working then, no beeps?

I have replaced the power supply and loaded the drivers supplied by MSI. Now I have no video.
Can you elaborate, as I don't know how you can install drivers if you're not getting any display? ???

What can be done to get the APPROPRIATE drivers for windos Vista, or do I need to install the 3rd party software to get the ATI cards to work.

  • USB device plug and the MagSafe port

    Hello,
I accidentally got an USB plug too close to the MagSafe port and the magnet pulled it in. It of course didn't fit, but I was wondering if the magnet could have caused any type of serious damage that might show up in the long term. The device in question is my Microsoft Natural Wireless Mouse. Shortly after the incident a dialog box popped up and told me my wireless device signal had been compromised (I don't remember the exact wording), but I restarted and everything is fine now.
Could the MagSafe magnet cause any kind of electro-static that might be harmful?
    Just wondering, and thanks.

*"Could the MagSafe magnet cause any kind of electro-static that might be harmful?"*
If it did, I'm sure Apple wouldn't make it.

  • Overclocking and the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

    Hi everyone,
I wanna overclock my system. But, I've experienced several problems.
Problem one: When i try to set my memory timings manual (3-3-3-8)
in the BIOS, CPU-Z, Everest etc shows CL2.5.... instead of the CL3.0 that I've selected in the BIOS.
The second problem: When i raise the front side bus to 200MHz FSB, and doing the same with the memory speed (200MHz, 1:1 Synchronous with the CPU..)
I get many BSOD's in Windows... So I've tried to raise the RAS#to CAS# delay to 4, the same for #RAS Precharge (also 4) and the Cycle Time (TRAS) at 11.
But this also doesn't work... The memory voltage is already at 2.7V, and it can't get higher...
How can i get this board working on a FSB of 400MHz (200) ? On my previous board (KT600) I've reached the 2.31 Ghz without problems, totally stable.
    Anyhelp will be appreciated.
For my specifications, see my signature.
Edit: Oh, i see that i have placed my topic in the wrong place, sorry for that.

Thanks for above suggestions. But, as I said before,  i can't change the CAS Latency of my memory... When i set the CAS to 3 in the bios, it stays at 2.5.... (checked with CPU-Z, Everest, CPUID) Is this a known bios-issue?
And my memory is designed to run at 200Mhz CL3.0-3-3-8.... I guess that's the thing that causes the instability... is that possible?
And before i flash my bios, I'd like to know if this solves my problem. As i said before, on my previous motherboard, i ran 210Mhz without a problem... totally stable..
    Thanks.

"When i set the CAS to 3 in the bios, it stays at 2.5.... (checked with CPU-Z, Everest, CPUID) Is this a known bios-issue?"
possible, with newest or modded should work normal.(never had similar issue) also underpowered memory stick can cause instability, with modded BIOS should be able to setup mem. vcore to 2.8V which is arround 2.76V(mobo is undervolted), also your Kingston required at least 2.75V to work property at ranked speed with default timings.
"When i set the CAS to 3 in the bios, it stays at 2.5....And my memory is designed to run at 200Mhz CL3.0-3-3-8.... I guess that's the thing that causes the instability... is that possible?"
    yes its possible.
"And before i flash my bios, I'd like to know if this solves my problem. As i said before, on my previous motherboard, i ran 210Mhz without a problem... totally stable.."
your prevision mobo is much different.
    follow this tips:
go into BIOS and Enable "Super Stability Mode", setup "FSB:RAM" Ratio in 1:1, setup "CPU Interface" to Normal,
    apply memory timings as follow:
    CAS: 3
    TRCD: 3
    TRP: 3
    TRAS: 9
    and memory vcore(Voltage) to 2.8V.
get a copy of Memtest86 and create bootable diskette or cd-rom(can be found on memtest site), boot from diskette, when memtest started select and use test number 5 only, that can be done via this keyboard shortcuts from a memtest ("c","1","3","5") ensure you can loop/pass test 20 times without errors.
post back results if there errors come report how much per pass is it. if there are errors go back into BIOS and start pull back FSB by 10Mhz (etc: apply 190FSB) and re-test with memtest. Ensure you have DIMM1 is filled with memory stick(close to CPU socket).
post back results. also check memory sticks individually to ensure there is no malfunction/defective stick.
also single/dual CH differences on Nforce2 is around 1%.

try >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed
    Tried that, didn't work.
Unseated each RAM stick, didn't work.
Removed the CPU, cleaned off the thermal grease, reseated it, replaced grease and heatsink. Didn't work.
Literally unplugged and replugged everything in one by one and none of it fixed the problem. Still receive error code 67.
Have no damn idea what the heck is going on.

  • Radeon 9x00s and the MSI K7N2

I just got a Radeon 9600 Pro yesterday, I had a half day of problems getting it to run and thought it must be something wrong with my MSI board.  I had already updated to BIOS 3.7 and had no problem getting it to POST, the only problems came after the drivers were installed.  I'd looked around here thinking it was a compatibliity problem and found no joy.
Well depsite my concerns this didn't turn out to be a board related issue (otherwise I would have added this to the sticky thread).  Just for future reference if you have:  "Memory usage set to Adjust for best performance of: System cache", in the advanced performance settings of WinXP system properties, you will get "delayed write errors" during windows boot-up and often won't be able to have Windows completely load (this is a problem with the drivers and AGP allocation and decent sized HDDs, from what I understand).  This was driving me nuts yesterday, mostly because I assumed it was an nForce2/MSI problem,  rather than something that could be taken care of as easily as changing the radio button over to Programs, from System Cache.
Gosh this is a great card for the money.  Personally, despite having done it many times, I hate ordering hardware on the internet (the waiting is the hardest part), so I was thrilled I was actually able to pick up this card on sale at CompUSA for $169, which is pretty competitive with the online prices for a "built by ATI/retail" card.
Go get yourselves one and enjoy it with your MSI board.  I got the last one they had at my local store though :D

This is the first instance where my tendency to over-tweak nearly got me screwed.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who's changed this setting.  Anyways if someone comes here with a similar problem and searches for "delayed write timing" they'll find an answer.
    Thanks inglo,
I was just curious as to why it was set that way and what the benifit was.
    Glad your up and running!

  • Moving object in colour and the rest in black and white

    Is this possible in FCPX?

YYes. Use a color mask in color corrections. Select the color and in the color board use Outsude and pull the Saturation down to zero.
