    Hey guys, i recently overclocked my amd 64 3500 cpu to 2.4ghz (from 2.2ghz) i was wondering if any could tell me how high i can get this cpu up to using the msi k8n platinum sli mobo.
    At the moment the cpu's temp goes to 40-45 oC.
    If i can overclock the cpu some more, can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to overclock it as i'm computer newbie.
    i'm using the standard amd heatsink and fan so i know that will comprimise the potentail of the cpu's overclocking capability, as i heard that some people managed to get their cpu up to 3.ghz with a high quality fan, so i was just wondering if anyone can tell me how high i can get my cpu frequency with a standard fan as i really don't want to risk damaging the cpu if i go overboard.

    P.S Does anyone come across any green flashing lights while playing their games when the high performance settings mode is set to optimized in bios settings mode??

    It can't run @100%, generally accepted load Target is 80% of Maximum.
    5) Enter PSU Specs by rail. The spreadsheet will then indicate wether the PSU is acceptable.

    The Spreadsheet uses US/UK Formating & so does not conform to European conention eg 1.56 US/UK to 1,56 Europe. To get round this European users should:-

    This is an update of the pre 2003 version.
    THe major change is the addition of a Component Detail section below the Main screen similar to that found in the 2003
    version.
    Without VBA the lists used in the 2003 version using Data verificartion cannot be dynamically updated. So the Component Detail section in this version allows the user to enter data for specific components themselves.
    This means that you have thae ability of getting a fairly accurate estimate of power usage using the default power settings, which will be adequate for troubleshooting PSU Issues or helping to choose a new supply.  By entering custom data a very accurate model can be created.
    The accuracy basically revolves around how average is an an average(ok whats the SD for statisticians) This is best shown with an example. This is the List in the 2003 version all of which can be specifcally selected. in this version only a single value can be selected :-

    So to take an extreme example if using 2 Generic Pata drives the default will understate consumption etc.,
    To set up Cusytom user data:-
    1) Enter Description
    2) Select component Category using the row list selector & choosing:-
    GFX   Graphics Card
    CPUF   CPU Fan
    FAN   Fans
    CD   Dvd/CD
    HD   Hard Drives
    PCI   PCI/PCI-E
    This ensures that the component is added to the relevent category in the summary sheet.
    2) Enter the Watts used for the component (Normal running/Load) 3.3v,5v,12v.
    3) Enter Number of the component used.
    4) Optional Select Variable load %
    As in the previous version you can use the default values However the entry point has now moved from the main form to the summary section of the component detail section. Just enter the number of items against each category.

    The Variable load % for default components are in the orange user cells in Column L of the summary sheet as b4.

    There is no AMD64 3400 939 CPU - see AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Model Numbers and Feature Comparison
    754 CPu are single channel compatable withK8N Neo Platinum
    939 CPu are Dual channel. compatable with K8N Neo4 Platinum

  • Advice needed from those who use after action to create shared directories.

    Hello.
    I am needing help from those that have successfully implemented an AD after create script to make shares and give the permissions.
    I am using rmtshare.exe and cacls.
    I am seeing the error string "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done" being returned by cacls.
    The only way I can explain this is that the cacls command is executed by the gateway before the AD has replicated the AD account just created to all DCs and Fileservers in the domain.
    Question is... have people out there with successful implementations used a delay e.g. sleep.exe between making the home directory and issuing cacls?
    If so, what delay is best.. 5 10 15 45 60 seconds???
    please respond. this is driving me crazy!

    The Gateway service process is definitely running as an administrator.
    I put a delay of 60 seconds between the rmtshare.exe call and the cacls call.
    This worked. Just that its a crazy way of doing things.
    In anycase how can IdM know that an AD account it has just created on the domain controller has successfully been replicated around the whole AD domain?

  • MSI P35 Platinum - No fans so no additional Cooling Needed?

    Hello,
    With the idea of supporting a quiet but powerful system, I had intended to buy the MSI 875X Platinum, but I just saw the new passively cooled MSI P35 Platinum.    Can I really get by using the MSI P35 Platinum with no fans or additional cooling, running:
    -Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe Processor 2.4GHz, 1066FSB
    -4GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 DDR2-800
    -MSI GeForce 8600 GTS NX8600GTS-T2D256EZ-HD Video Card
    -Zalman ZM600-HP HeatPipe Cooled 600w PSU
    I won't be overclocking; I'd just like an updated, quiet system with power to spare; will be used for photoshop.
    Any other comments?  Thx.

    For those who don't know the Antec P180/P182 has the PSU in a separate chamber at the bottom of the case so it can chuck the cpu's heat straight out of two 120mm fans in top and rear.   There is also a 3rd 120mm fan in lower chamber blowing onto the PSU.   All three Antec fans are fitted with HI-Med-Low switches.  I find Low to be good.
    120mm fans push a decent amount of air on low RPM and are much quieter than 90mm.
    There is room to fit two more of your own fans on the Upper HD cage.   One to draw air in from the front of the case and one that blows straight on the graphics card.  If you use both at once it creates a wind tunnel but means you cannot use it for hard drives.  Although you could just fit the front fan and have it blow across your HD.   I have my disks in the lower chamber to keep their heat away from the motherboard, and have done the wind tunnel option.
    If I could change one thing I would have bought slower RPM  or adjustable extra fans because they are louder than the built in Antec fans.
    Hope this makes sense lol.
    To be honest, you don't really need the extra fans if silence is more important, but my room is very warm and I plan to overclock.

  • MSI DKA790GX Platinum and AM3 CPU - BIOS Update

    Hi,
    I am going to upgrade my current computer from an older AMD socket 939 setup to an AMD Phenom II based system
    I am thinking of the MSI DKA790GX Platinum motherboard and AMD Phenom II X3 720 (Black edition) CPU (AM2+ Motherboard and AM3 CPU), but I need to clear up the BIOS update for AM3 issue before buying the components.
    The motherboard advertisement states that the BIOS has to be upgraded to support AM3 CPU
    My issue is this: I do not have an AM2/AM2+ CPU, and I am looking to jump right into buying an AM3 CPU - so will the unit power-up/POST with the combination of the newer AM3 CPU and older BIOS to allow me to update the BIOS using either FDD or Bootable USB Pen in a DOS environment?
    Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this? Any help on this would be appreciated

I also have to manually bump up the voltage, as well as timings and ratio for 1066.  But, my Mushkin ram plugged in and booted with no problems, but I did have to bump up the voltage and tighten up the timings even at 800.
    Interesting (Abut BIOS version 1.74). I guess it is not yet available for downloads.
    So now Intel CPU's have the memory controller on the die (just like AMD). So does this prove as an advantageous concept? I expect Intel to implement better memory management than AMD. AMD drops speed when all 4 memory banks are occupied... what is the use of utilizing max RAM capability if memory controller cannot sustain the max RAM speed?
    I may agree with you on the concept that motherboard should support the lowest (RAM) denominator...
    However if someone uses lower than 1066 MHz sticks, system should detect accordingly, and when 1066 sticks are used, auto-detect as 1066... I still do not see the issue here. On former nVidia based boards like my MSI K9A Platinum SLI (with an AMD X2 CPU), 800 MHz modules are detected as 800 on auto, no need to manually tweak anything in BIOS. I still have to see an nVidia EPP profile enabled board which is claimed to auto detect 1066 MHz capable memory sticks by default.
    On my system it is also the same... I have to up the RAM voltage to 2.2V (otherwise system is not stable), as well as setting up the timings and of course the RAM/FSB speed ratio to 1:2.66.
    I am running currently 4 chips of OCZ platinum 2 GHZ (for a total of 8 GB RAM, for 64 bit Vista and Linux). Also with mine (as we know Phenom II does not support 4 sticks of 1066 MHz) it drops to 800 MHz. As well as, I needed to bump the voltage to 2.2 V... otherwise in the middle of operation, system reboots. We know what this is about, dont we ?

  • MSI K8N Neo Pl. needs BIOS upgrade BAD!

    Some bugs i have sinds I use this mobo:
    *SB Audigy2 ZS: All installed but no go: xp manager says I need up to date firmware/bios but I used the latest bios (1.10) and drivers.
    *Hercules Oc 3D tweaker: install gives continue auto reboot!!!
    needs save mode to uninstall.
    *PSU has only 2.25V on the 12V line???? alarm on MSI alert4 and MBM5, report on SiSoftware Sandra!!!
    In bios itselve the 12V line seems normal (12.21V)
    *As for 3D mark? 3DM01 as 3DM03 has less marks (400 points) than my XP2500+ @2.2Gig (XP3200+)!!!
    *Sometimes a weard sound coming from mobo, like a car with bad breaks.
    And this gets realy annoying!!!
    *The onboard sound is just sad, cracking sound of realy bad quality.
    Is the K8N NEO now bad?  
    Well........no, but MSI realy needs a bios update verry BAD!!!!!
    Bios used on positive reviews: bios 1.13.
    Latest on line bios: bios 1.10.........huhmmmm?    
    Are there onther people having the same or other problems with this board?

    Max OC i get is 2100MHz, lol OMG.
    No use going up with Vcore, its nog go all the way.
    This CPU go's @ 2400MHz with no prob on a ASUS K8V Deluxe at stock.
    MEM is corsair 1024MB XMS PC3200LL.
    Seems there is nothing working on this mobo at all like it has to.
    Temps are wrong, OC sucks, not stabel at all, strange sounds coming out of mobo, bad sound from onboad sound, bad support, bad NB cooling, backplate glued on the mobo.......and so on......
    I have never had any problems with any MSI boards in the past.. Since I am system builder (maksys.biz) I test tons of motherboards yearly.. I am very happy with MSI's performance compared to other boards (asus, gigabyte, epox, etc).  A few times I needed to contact MSI to fix a few RMA problems and they were prompt to get back to me and take care of my problems.  I am currently using a MSI K8N Plat board. No problems.. Excellent performance.. I am sorry you feel the way you do about MSI and wish the best for you.

  • P7N platinum sli and qx9650 overclock issues

    Hey all,
    Just wondering if someone could help me with overclocking my qx9650 on my P7N platinum sli.
    I have tried throwing all kinds of voltages at the cpu, fsb, and nb and I still can't run stable for over a few seconds. I thought it might be due to a fsb hole and have tried a range from 1550-1650. My goal is to get it at 400mhz(1600 in bios) and get a 5:4 ratio with my ram at 1000.  I tried updating to the p06 performance bios from ami 1.3 and still can't get it stable. I don't want to end up frying my board. I got it to run stable at 350 for an hour in prime 95 but would really like to achieve 1600.  at 350x8.5 for 1500 my temps did not get above 54c under full load
    I am not looking for a huge oc, just get to 9x400 for a 3.6 ghz clock speed for 24/7 use. I ran prime 95 for 5 hours with everything at stock so I know it is not a bad cpu, ram, mobo. I also ran memtest86+ at stock and every test passed. I have d.o.t disabled, eist disabled, and spread spectrum disabled.
    Memory timings right now are 5-5-5-18-2T at 2.1v and memtest+ passed with those settings at speed 800mhz.
    any suggestions would be great

    just wanted to let everyone know that i got it stable at 3.75ghz for 26 hours in prime 95. Don't know why but it still won't boot from 1550-1650 (must be a FSB hole or something) so i just put it at 1500(375) with a 10 multiplier and ram at 1000 for a 3:4 fsb:ram ratio.

  • Overclocking a Core i7 920 with X58 Platinum: Advice needed!

    Just got my Core i7 920 and I would like to see how far I can take it with the hardware that I have. Although I've read countless overclocking articles over the years (mainly on Tom's Hardware), this is actually going to be my first time doing it. So I guess this makes me a n00b.... 
    So, here is my hardware setup:
    CM Storm Scout Case
    Intel Core i7 920
    MSI X58 Platinum
    Coolit Systems Domino CPU Water Cooling System
    G.SKILL 6GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24
    ASUS GeForce 9500GT Top
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB
    PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W
    I've already tried fiddling around the BIOS and also tried the DIP switches on the MOBO (tried the 166 settings). At this point I'm guessing I'll have to turn off some options in the BIOS or something because CPU-Z is reporting different Core Speed, multiplier and QPI Link every 2 second.
    For the record, I'm not necessarily trying to break 4Ghz with this overclock... just wanna take advantage of this 920 and the CoolIt Domino; anything stable between 3.2 and 3.8GHz and I'm happy

    Depends on the type of blue screen you get.
    The way I under stand it is if the errors end with 124 ie   0x0000124 this is most likely QPI related.
    This is taken from the evga forums and I am only posting as a reference..  The Credit belongs to Freemortal at evga. Not everythign applies to the MSI boards but the important ones do.
    This guide is an attempt to assemble as much info about the various i7 voltages you can change in the BIOS.  I can't do it alone though.  This community has a wealth of information on the subject.  Please post what you know and I'll add it to the first post here.  Please make it as concise as possible.
    If you believe any of this information to be inaccurate, let me know.
    NOTE: This guide is applies specifically to the "EVGA X58 SLI" motherboard released in 2008. Most of this info also applies to other X58 motherboards as well but some labels and tolerances may be different depending on the make.  This guide assumes you use a high quality, after-market heatsink and fan.  Do not raise voltages with the stock cooler!
    THE VOLTAGES
    Caution: The voltage you set is not necessarily the voltage you get.  Furthermore the voltage you read is not necessarily accurate either.  The Eleet utility (along with any other software monitoring utility) will simply report what the motherboard tells it to report.  When measured independently, these readings are close, but not entirely accurate.
    VCore (default: 1.28125v, Intel's max 1.375v, VCore over 1.50v on air cooling is risky)
      What it does:
        Sets max voltage to the CPU cores. (if Vdroop is disabled, it will set the min voltage instead)  The i7 doesn't need much voltage at speeds under 3.8ghz.   (For example, I can get 3.8ghz on 1.275 vcore)  Beyond that the voltage requirements climb sharply.
      When to raise VCore:
        * BSOD 101 "Clock Interrupt not received from Secondary Processor"
        * LinX produces errors that are very
        * LinX errors happen within 1 min of LinX
        * LinX produces BSOD within the first minute
      You know VCore is too high when:
        * CPU cores approach a peak of 85c on full load
        * It is unknown how higher voltages may impact the life of the CPU
    CPU VTT Voltage (default: 1.1V (+0mV in BIOS) Intel's max 1.35 (+250mV)
    What it does:
        VTT connects the cores with the memory.  Raising VTT helps keep a system stable at higher QPI rate.  Since QPI is calculated from bclk: the higher the bclk the more VTT voltage you will need.  VTT is also called "QPI/DRAM Core" on other motherboards,
        Prevent CPU damage: VTT voltage must be within 0.5V of VDimm. Vdimm can fluctuate by as much as 0.05V from settings so you may want VTT within 0.45V of VDimm for that extra margin of safety.  Example: if Vdimm is 1.65V, then VTT must be at least 1.20V.
      When to raise CPU VTT Voltage:
        * BSOD 124 "general hardware failure"
        * LinX errors happen only after 10 min or more
        * LinX hangs but does not BSOD
        * LinX reboots without BSOD
      You know CPU VTT Voltage is too high when:
        * Most users try and stay below 1.45V (+350V) for 24/7 use without additional direct cooling.
        * The motherboard doesn't read the temp so you may need an IR thermometer to be sure you are not pushing VTT too far. 
    CPU PLL VCore (default: 1.800V, spec range: 1.65V-1.89V)
    What it does:
        Keeps CPU clock in-sync with bclk.
      When to raise CPU PLL VCore:
        * May help with stability while increasing the bclk or CPU multiplier.(or may make it worse)
        * May help with stability past 210 bclk if you observe that during runtime the QPI Link (found in E-Leet) bounces too much.
        * Not a commonly raised.  May actually cause instability.  Test this variable alone.
      You know CPU PLL VCore s too high when:
        * Its possible you could actually gain stability by lowering this.
    DIMM Voltage (default: 1.5V, Intel's max 1.65)
      What it does:
        Voltage to the RAM. Despite Intel's warnings, you can raise voltage beyond 1.65 as long as it is always within 0.5V of VTT (as described above).
      When to raise DIMM Voltage :
        * High performance/gaming RAM usually requires at least 1.65v to run at spec.  Some manage to get it slightly lower.
        * Stable bclks over 180 often require VDIMM beyond 1.65V.  Remember to keep VTT voltage within 0.5V of VDIMM.
      You know DIMM Voltage is too high when:
        * Memory is too hot.  [more info on this is needed]
    DIMM DQ Vref (default: +0mV)
      What it does:
        It is the reference voltage for a pseudo-differential transmission line. The DQ signals sent by the memory controller on the i7 should swing between logic-hi and logic-lo voltages centered around VREF. VREF is typically half way between the drain and source voltages on the RAM.  Most VREF generator circuits are designed to center between the VDD and VSS voltages on the RAM. There is usually temperature compensation built into the circuitry as well.
     When to raise DIMM DQ Vref:
        * Vref might be adjusted if (after measurement) it was determined not to be properly centered between VDD and VSS of the DIMM. Without a good osciloscope it's difficult to imagine that most users could set VREF correctly. They may be able to set VREF empirically by moving it up or down and checking for POST or BSOD problems.
     Further reading:
        http://download.micron.com/pdf/technotes/ddr2/TN4723.pdf  The document is for DDR2 but differential signaling is a topic that transcends memory models. It has been done for decades in high-end systems and the advantages/drawbacks are well understood.
    QPI PLL VCore (default: 1.1v, <1.4v is pretty safe)
      What it does:
        Keeps on-chip memory controller in-sync with bclk.
     When to raise QPI PLL VCore:
        * Try raising this along with Vcore and VTT, but in smaller increments.
        * Helps stabilize higher CPU Uncore frequencies and QPI frequencies (in CPU feature)
        * Try raising this when you increase memory clock speed via multiplier.
        * Try raising when LinX produces errors after a few minutes without BSOD
    IOH Vcore (default: 1.1V)
      What it does:
        Sets voltage for on-chip north bridge which connects PCIE2.0, GPU, Memory, and CPU.
      When to raise IOH VCore:
        * Possibly needed if you overclock your north bridge (via bclk and CPU Uncore freq.)
     You know IOH VCore is too high when:
        * Memory errors? (just a guess)
        * GPU intensive apps like 3dmark vantage crash. (another guess)
    IOH/ICH I/O Voltage (default: 1.5V)
      What it does:
        some sort of on-chip bus voltage. unknown
    ICH Vcore (default: 1.05V)
      What it does:
        South Bridge chip on the motherboard.  Connects all motherboard features, cards (not PCIE2.0), and drives to CPU/memory on IOH
      When to raise ICH Vcore:

      When to raise PWM Frequency:
        * Overclocking beyond 4.2ghz
      You know PWM Frequency is too high when:
        * VREG approaches 85c
    VDroop (default: enabled)
      What it does:
        Safety feature designed by Intel to protect the chip from excessive wear from voltage spikes.  Enabling VDroop keeps actual voltage running below the VCore setting in BIOS
      What does disabling VDroop do?
        * Makes VCore setting the minimum value for actual voltage; CPU will run at higher voltages than what you set in BIOS.
        * Disabling VDroop is the same as enabling Load Line Calibration on other x58 boards.
      Why would I want to disable VDroop?
        * Some overclockers use it because it allows them to get a high overclock while setting lower VCore in BIOS. This is because the running voltage is actually higher than what was set in BIOS.  Disabling VDroop keeps actual voltage higher than what is set for VCore in the BIOS.  Enabling Vdroop keeps actual voltage lower than VCore.
        * It might help if you are pushing the bleeding edge.
    Diagnosing errors. What to do when...
    BSODs
        * BSOD "IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL" (I forget)
        * BSOD 101 "Clock Interrupt not received from Secondary Processor" Try raising VCore
        * BSOD 124 "general hardware failure" Try raising VTT
    LinX Errors
    If you get an error you would have x same (correct) results and 1 different (an error):
        * If the incorrect result differs slightly from the rest (numbers very close, same powers in Residual & Residual (norm)) it is most likely that there's not enough vcore. In this case only a small vcore bump is usually needed to stabilize the system (alternatively, Vtt & GTL tweaking can sometimes fix this too)
        * If the wrong result differs much from the others (different power or even positive power in Residual or Residual (norm)) it might be 1) insufficient vcore (the error would happen at the very first runs then) or 2) some memory / NB instability (when it worked for say 10 minutes ok and then produced a different result)
      More serious LinX errors:
        * BSOD during testing (at the very first runs) is often caused by too low vcore
        * System hangs and remains hung it is almost 100% not a CPU but memory or possibly NB issue
        * System reboots (with no hang prior to reboot and no BSOD) - a CPU issue, but not vcore related (insufficient PLL or Vtt I guess)
        * System hangs for a short while and then BSODs - once again NB or memory problem (but might be wrong Vtt / GTL setting as well)
        * System hangs and then just reboots - wrong Vtt (too low or too high) or GTL settings

    That screen grab helps a lot. There’s a much easier way of doing what you’re doing.
    Remove all your tabs and set the text in justified paragraphs.
    I’ve typed in dummy text in the example I made below, but after “19.1” put in a space and put your blinking cursor after the space and before the ’N’ of ‘Notices'.
    Then hold down the Command key and hit Backspace (on Mac at least - it’s the key between the Inverted commas/ apostrophe key and the return key).
    The text will jump into place the way you want it to.

    PS You can set a tab, instead of using a space, in the description I gave above. So, after 19.1 or 19.2 or 19.185 etc etc insert a tab, then hit the Command Backspace after every paragraph number and they'll all line up exactly together. You'll find that editing text within the paragraphs
    after you've set it will be LOADS easier this way.
    You can put the tab anywhere you want it to be using 'Command-ShiftT' and putting a 'left align' tab just after the number. Just type the Command Backspace after the paragraph number and it'll work

    Need help overclocking a AMD Phenom 2 1100T cpu on a 890FXA-GD70 motherboard. I only want to overclock the cpu, not my ram. Basically, I need to know which voltages to change and at what voltages to start at. Also, I've currently have the cpu multiplier and Turbo Core multiplier set at 3.7/3.9, not the stock 3.3/3.7.

    If you didnt adust the multipliers for anything or changed the FSB then simply bump your CPU (Not CPUNB) to about ~1.42v   that should keep it stable.
    Run Prime95 or Intel Burn test for a couple hours to make sure

    Yes, you can use the API RessourceBundle to read configuration informations.
    Just create a propertie file with your locale, and access it to read informations :

  • I have constant K8N Neo2 problems advice needed. (long) Update

    I need some advice on what my problem might be and if I need to RMA the motherboard or power supply.
    I have a new Athlon 64 3500+ processor, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS v1.3 motherboard, with 2 512MB DIMMs of Corsair Value Select Memory. I have had and am still having a series of crashes and lock-ups I will list below. FULL SYSTEM SPECS BELOW AT BOTTOM.
    I initially installed the motherboard with a SINGLE 120GB hard drive from the old machine and the installed the memory in memory slots 1 & 2 to try dual channel memory mode. I then formatted the C partition and did a clean install of Windows XP Professional with SP2, installed the MSI drivers on the installation CD that came with the motherboard (Nvidia nForce3 Version 5.03 System Drivers, Realtek gigabit ethernet driver, Realtek AC97 audio driver) & the GeForce v66.93 video driver. I then got my first blue screen "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" crash, I ignored this crash and rebooted. I shortly got a black screen crash which I also ignored.
    I then installed a new 200GB hard drive and a old 120GB so I could transfer the data from the old 120GB to the new 200GB drive. The data transfer went fine. As I was preparing to install some applications I then got my second blue screen "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" crash. Suspecting the Corsair Value Select Memory could not handle dual channel I ran Memtest-86 for 2 passes and got NO errors with the memory in dual channel mode, so I left it.
    With my data backed up on the 200GB new drive I removed the new 200GB and the second 120GB hard did another clean install of Windows XP Professional with SP2, this time with Nvidia’s nForce3 Version 5.10 system drivers, the Realtek gigabit ethernet driver and Realtek AC97 audio driver  from the motherboard installation CD & the GeForce v66.93 video driver. I downloaded the latest version of Core Center and installed it and got it working. CPU temperatures were showing a low of around 29C, average of about 44C, and spikes at full loads of about 55-57C. I then ran Ghost to back up the boot partition. I installed all my applications, reinstalled the 200GB and 120 GB hard drives moved some data around with no crashes.
    I then installed Rome Total War and played for about 2 hours and had one black screen crash after the reboot played for 4 more hours with no problems so I shut down and went to bed.
    In the morning I got up started the computer let it run for awhile the CPU temperatures were in the low 30Cs to low 40Cs I tried to copy some files from the D partition to desktop and the screen freezes I waited about 5 min. with no change and no drive light activity so I hit the reset button. Upon reboot I got a ‘no system disk found” error, I went into the BIOS and checked the drive set-ups and boot priority, everything was correct. I tried for a half hour to get the system to boot with on luck. I used the Ghost to restore the partition image I had made earlier and still no boot. I finally decided to reinstall XP again put in the installation CD and when I got to the screen where you decide where to install Windows I changed my mind quit and bingo the machine boots into the restored Ghost partition???? I started to reinstall my applications got one more blue screen"MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" crash and another screen freeze that I had to reset.
    So I decided to start from real scratch I removed the new 200GB and the second 120GB hard drive ran Killdisk on the boot drive, made a new clean 20GB C partition and did another clean install of Windows XP Professional with SP2, this time with Nvidia’s nForce3 Version 5.10 system drivers, the Realtek gigabit ethernet driver and Realtek AC97 audio driver from the motherboard installation CD & the GeForce v66.93 video driver. I installed the latest version of Core Center and installed it and got it working. CPU temps were as before.
    I tested the memory with Memtest-86 again 2 passes no errors. Just in case I then moved one of the memory DIMMs to memory slot 3 out of dual channel mode and to a slower speed and ran Memtest-86 for about 20 hours with 21 passes with no memory errors, so I think memory can be ruled out as the problem.
    Next I installed my applications I got one screen freeze that I had to reset. I reinstalled the other 200GB and 120GB hard drives. After I got all my applications install and Ghosted the boot partition. I have had one more one screen freeze that I had to reset.
    I have a problem I simply cannot figure out. The memory is obliviously fine. While I have seen CPU temperatures spikes as high as 57C the CPU temps as reported by Core Center averages in the high 30Cs or low 40Cs and most of crashes/lock-ups don’t seem to occur during high CPU load/temp. The power supply might be a little light for the system but many of the crashes have occurred with only one hard drive in the system. The fact after one for the lock-ups the system would not boot for awhile and then magically just booted gives me concern there might be a motherboard problem.
    Any solution ideas would be appreciated. Should I RMA the power supply, the motherboard, or both.

    Your PS unit is a little weak for that much hardware, but I doubt thats your problem as well
    re your PSU, given youv'e got a less hungry Graphic Card, thought it was at worse marginal, have seen worse.
    To investigate further it may be worth diconnecting one of your HD, maybe the 200gb for a time.
    It's a small thing but it may be slightly better to have both your maxtors together on IDE channel 1, given their identical.
