When the OC Switch is used, which basically changes the clock speed on the hardware level, the BIOS should automatically adjust the Memory Ratio to the new clock speed, at least after a CMOS Clear (which you should do after changing switch positions).

    HI Guys. I have a i7 950 3.07 which i was planning on overclocking. I have the X58A-GD65 mobo and was thinking of using the easy switch as a basic overclock. Im a little worried about my ram however. I have 4gb (2x2gb) at 1333mhz. If i use the easy switch is this going to fry my ram as its not 1600mhz? I have heard that you can unlink your ram so it stays at 1333mhz? If so how do you do this?

    Ok, so here's my system:
    Win7 64bit Ultimate
    MSI X58A-GD65 BIOS V22.2B8
    Intel i7 930 (D0) (OC @4.2GHz)
    RAM OCZ 3x2GB kit OCZ3RPR2000C8LV2G (OC @1.6GHz)
    OCZ RevoDrive 80GB
    2x WD Caviar 500GB 7200rpm SATAII
    Sapphire Radeon HD 5870
    Enermax Liberty Eco 620W (ELT620AWT-ECO)
    Even if I remove the OC, all the APS LEDs are lit up. I shot a short video that I took with stock settings and system at idle, so that you can see what it look like.
    I add that the problem was present even with the original BIOS v22.1 (and the PC was not overclocked, as it was impossible to do so with that BIOS).
    Therefore, I was wondering if there are some settings that I should check, or if I can hope that v22.3 will solve the issue.
    But I would also like to know other users' opinion regarding the fact that I'm using a beta version of the BIOS, and if for this reason I should upgrade it in any case.

    I bought the MSI X58A-GD65 because I am a complete moron who wanted a hardware Easy Switch.
    It works really well,but I was pissed when I noticed that my 12GB's of RAM was no longer recorgnized. Only showed 8GB's..............
    So I set the Easy Switch to deafualt ( 133 ) and decided to overclock the CPU and tweak the RAM.
    I just read every forum where people had problems w/ various settings, and since I only want 3.2GHz w/ 12GB's of RAM @1.4v it was a walk in the park.
    Clearing the CMOS after a day of torturing myelf and committing Human errors,I easily was able to simply undervolt the RAM from the 1.65v default,and raise the 133 default setting up by a factor of 5 and rebooting.
    So this is my first OVerclocking experience and MSI seems like a worthy board..
    I use this to perform hardware and virtual musical synths and instruments 6 nights a week.
    Since I cam from a solid 32bit DAW that ran 100% for 3 yerars,I didn't upgrade, but actually did an entire new rebuild since I wasn't sure ofthe stability in x64.
    But this DAW has worked for days on end now flawlessley.

    I don't see the point of posting system specs because I'm sure it's a bug, the bios refuses to save the Cell Menu options but whatever. I can't argue with that because this information is crucial to most issues

  • X58A-GD65 Stock

    Just thought I'd chime in here to say the MSI X58A-GD65 is a great board for lengthy stable use.
    I wanted something that was stable, and would overclock until I hit certain temps, then leave it alone.
    I use my 4U ATX 6 nights a week and use it 8-12 hours a day.
    The stock cooling is fine for my mere 3.5GHz speed using the i7 930.
    I actually hit 4.2GHz w/o any effort using the Easy Switch, but the temps were too high, so I then just did my tweaks manually from reading various tricks from members.
    If anyone is looking for overclocking moderately with stock parts, and 24/7 stability, and at a cheap price.....

    Intel and Supermicro boards are no longer my first choice.

    I will be using some SUperTalent USB 3.0 RAID sticks for storing 40-50GB sized instrument libraries after CES in a few weeks too.
    The X58A's Marvell chip is the newer one, and not the one Asus and Gigabyte used on the first X58's as they stumbled over each othjer to get their products to market.
    I will be posting some results here after the show.
    This board is such a pleasure to use, and since stability is what keeps my payscale higher than most I look forward to using an 8 port hub and being the first guy to run a professional DAW w/o Mechanical HDD's, or SSD's.
    MSI stability should be preached as well as their effortless 4.2GHz Easy Switch right out of the box on stock parts....
    I prefer the stability and cool temps w/ a slight OC and stock parts.

  • MSI X58A-GD65 Overclock Problem

    Hi there,
    I have been trying to overclock my mainboard and it doesnt change my Clock Frequency, actually it changes but when I try to reboot system, it comes back to 133mhz again! I'm sure that it is not failure of overclocking, what should I do about this problem?
    Every detail can change but clock frequency...!
    I updated mainboard by the way to the last firmware.
    NOTE: I manually change frequency on mainboard to 200mhz. now Setup says 200 mhz, while computer starts, startup says 200mhz, in Windows, it says 133 mhz! even CPUZ says 133mhz!... what is going on :S

  • MSI X58A-GD65

    This is driving me crazy
    Currently have this motherboard(no bios updates but is running ESXi) so cannot upgrade with out loads of problems
    Anyway running 24 gig of ram
     2 ssd's a a 64 gig OCZ agility and a ocz 240 Onyz SSD
    well i tried to add another 240 gig OCZ agility
    anyway when copying to this drive the drive goes off line(shows no errors)
    fair enough could be the drive
    then chnaged that for a
    octane 2 240 gig ssd which has been running windows 7 for 4 months that shows no errors and working fine
    plug that it and create the storage so i am able to use it
    try moving data to it after a couple of mins that drive goes off line
    re imaged windows to it and using it at the moment on another pc with no problems???
    also the agiltity 3 drive is working fine within windows on another motherboard??
    i just do not know where to go here now
    made sure disks seem to be working fine but
    when connected to the X58A-GD65 it seems to take the disk off line
    funny though the 2 existing ssd's seem to be working fine
    any ideas?

    I am not an ESXi user myself but I checked around and it could be a compatibility issue.
    MSI does not test ESXi on their desktop boards.
    Desktop boards may or may not work properly under ESXi, I can;t find any desktop boards in the hardware compatibility list of ESXi either.
    So support will be thin if any.
    Doesn't mean it shouldn't work though.
    Have you tried a Sata HDD to see if that works?
    Which version of ESXi and which verison of the datastore are you using?
    Do you run AHCI mode?

    (IDE mode might have some issues)
    Updating the bios as xmad suggested is also something you could try.
    Which bios do you currently have?
    I attached the latest bios (M46/v22.4B6), could you give that a try?
    You can use this bios update in DOS or use the >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<

  • X58A-GD65 USB3 problem with WD MyBook

    Hi,
    I have X58A-GD65 with i7 processor, 6 GB RAM, 4 internal HDD, 4 external HDD, Win 7 x64. Two of the external are WD MyBook Essential USB 3.0/2.0.
    My Renesas drivers are v 2.0.34.0 (the ones from the board page).
    When I plug two of the WD drives, only ones can be seen. Both on BIOS level and Win 7 level.
    Any insight or any newer drivers that work?

    I memory serves corretly, there is a firmware update available from WD that pertains to this.
    Also have you checked in the disk manager? Perhaps one needs to be set up.

  • Missing "Init display first" on x58a-gd65

    Hello. I have X58A-GD65 motherboard with core-i7 on it.
    Also I have two videocards -- nvidia gtx460 and gt430. I have two monitors and need both of them to be connected to gtx460 (and gt430 is needed to be headless). Gtx460 is plugged into the second pci-express slot and gt430 is plugged into the first -- it's needed to avoid overheating.
    So the problem is that I see post message and bootloader choosing screen only with a monitor connetcted to gt430 and it's unacceptable. If I have both of monitors plugged to gtx460 I see nothing until the OS is loaded (I have both linux and windows).
    All of my previous motherboards were based on AMI bios too and they had an option "Init display first" in which I could set the main PCI-E port. But your motherboard for unknown reason is missing that option -- I tried V22.1, 22.2, 22.3 versions (with 22.0 I have memory issues).
    What can I do to set init display at the second pci-express?

So the gtx460 temp increases up to 80C under 100% load. That's not a problem but the fan of gtx460 starts spinning at 3000rpm and it's very annoying. Temperatures of other devices stay below 50C.
    But if I put gtx460 in the 1th slot and gt430 in the 0th there is a plenty of space in front of gtx460 and all the temperatures stay below 45C even if both cards and the CPU are all loaded at 100% => no annoying noise and fan spins at 800rpm.
    That's the point actually.

    Yes.
    You may have to call into Verizon Customer care if you have a smartphone to remove the data plan and help you move over.  Other than that it's a simple swap between devices.  Contract doesn't matter unless you negligent in payment(or the person who you bought the device from is).

    As you can see my build can  be considered high-end.
    So far I have overclocked CPU to run at 3.0 GHZ and RAM speed at 1800 MHZ.
    If I set CPU to run at a higher speed the system boots fine but the OS refuses to start
    Also I have encountered some hang ups in games. I believe it's because of the automized RAM timings.
    In order to overclock I have to access the "Cell Menu" in BIOS Settings.

    Reasons: These technologies conserve power, I want to have better perfomance not to conserve energy.

    Ouf, that all the options in Cell menu... This motherboard must have been designed for professional overclockers.
    So any suggestions, any guides that I should follow?
    I have heard and seen on the internet that Core i7 920 can reach 4,0 GHZ but not quite stable can I achieve such perfomance with good stability?
    How do I get the real full specifications of these RAMs?
    Should I enable some of the CPU features to conserve power and have a better temperature?
    Should I enable also green power?
    PS) Again to clarify it. I'm aiming for perfomance.

  • X58A-GD65 - Marvell Raid SataIII - Problem

    Hello,
    I've got a serious problem with the Marvell Sata3 Controller on my X58A-GD65 MO/BO.
    At the boot, when the Controller is getting initialize the Computer just stay there for ever and I must take off all the devices (HDD & Dvd-rom) from it to start my computer,
    some times it might get pass the initialization but the Windows can't see the Devices on the Controller, or some times it Stack on boot shows only the Windows boot screen (I've got Win7 64bit)
    I've got Intel i7 950 @ 3.07mhz
    with 6X 500GB sata2 at iche10 @ RAID5
    12GB ram 1333mhz
    2X Nvidia 9600GT (not sli)
    1X Nvidia 9800GT

    I've got 2X PSU, one for MO/BO 850w, and one 750W for the HDD and GPU.
    I didn't tried to remove any Ram or any Gpu cause is the Computer from my work and it want lot of time to make all this tests... but if I disable the Marvell-sata3 Controller from the Bios all works perfect!! Also if I put the Hdd and Dvd-rom from Marvel to Intel Controller it works great.
    Also if I disable Intel sata controller and remove all the Hdd from it and Boot my system from Marvell sata3 controler after a while the Marvell controller it will freez at Initialization at the boot.
    It's Marvell sata controller problem but I don't know how to fix it, also I search the web and there are lot of people having problems with this controller (not only Msi Mo/bo)

  • X58A-GD65 overclock problem

    Hi all,
            I just got the X58A-GD65 and updraded the BIOS to V2. I'm trying to get my Dominator 2000GT and intel i7 950 to 2000mhz and 4ghz respectively.
    I can get the memory up to 2000mhz using XMP on auto and manually giving it 1.65v. Very stable!
    I can also get the CPU to 4.2ghz with the base clock and multiplier to 175mhz and x24, again stable.
    The problem is I can't get them both working together, when I enable the XMP feature on the memory, it remove the multiplier value on the CPU and doesn't allow me to change the base clock speed.  It just runs them at it's own speed of 3.42ghz which is a good speed, but I know i can get 4ghz+ from my CPU.!
    Where am I going wrong guys?

    Probably need more CPU V. Raise in small increments & check for post. In no way should it need to get up to 1.400, so the limitation will most likely be RAM speed & a limitation of the CPU IMC.     The XMP profile at 2000, uses CR of 2 not 1. That 'may' be the problem at that speed.
    With a bclk of 176, mine are currently running 1760 CR 1, 8 9 8 24, tRFC 88 @ 1.62V's. 
    Added: In the spirit of the pursuit of science, I did some more testing. The mainboards are capable, the RAM is capable, but it does seem to ultimately rest with the CPU itself what it can handle. This screenshot is most likely an 'exception to the rule' & 'non' typical of capability for a standard 1366 i7 9xx series. This is with an i7 970 which has much different operating limits. * DRAM V. 1.68V's with VDroop reads 1.66V's in CPUID H/W Monitor.
    * WARNING.....Maximum DRAM voltage for other than i7 970 or 980X is 1.65V's! Permanent CPU damage/degradation may be the result!
