MOVED: Z68-GD80 (G3) BIOS flashing

Don't update bios from windows, it very often ends badly.
At anyrate, try a full cmos clear >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
If you are unable to get it to post or recover, you will need an spi programmer from either msi or a decent computer shop.
Also, it MAY boot with your IVY cpu so that is worth a shot.
As a final note, if you need to send it for RMA as for the beta bios, as it has been reported to really rock.
z68a-gd80 (G3) I had to assume by what bios you used.

I have a major problem right now with my z68-GD80.  I went and tried to update the bios to get it all ready for a new 3770K I have (was at I.80, going to J.10) and it got as far as trying to reboot the system after it apparently updated the bios from within windows.  However, it only got as far as giving me a double short beep and then sat there for 30 minutes before I shut down the system.  I fire it back up, does double beep again, but this time its cycling itself every 30 seconds or so.
I then go and clear the cmos to see if that will help get this thing into some sort of working state.  All that does is cause it to try to cycle between the bios's, but according to the led on the mobo, its only trying to boot from the first one.
So, any idea how to get this thing back on its feet, or am I SOL?
    As of this minute Specs:
    CPU: 2500k (all stock)
    Mem: 1x8GB Kingston Hyper-x KHX1600C10D3B1k2/16G
    No ODD's (Two Blu-rays pulled)
    No HDD's (256GB M4 pulled)
    GPU: Reference 5870 (stock)
    PSU:  PCPC 750W
    OS: Win8 Pro x64

All you can do is try a full cmos clear w/ a bare bones set-up. What you should have done when you saw the blinking light was enable multi bios update in bios to recover the bad bios.
Probably the simplest thing to do is bring the board to a computer shop with an SPI programmer. It will probably cost around $50-$75 to get this fixed.
If you have a Sandy bridge CPU, stick with 7672vH5.zip unless there are issues. If you absolutely need to flash your bios, use the forum flash tool and archives.

I had a very similar experience.  Here is how I fixed it.
Download sp41954.exe from here  or search for it.
Double-click on the file to launch the application.  If you are running Vista or higher, close the program, go to where it extracted (C:\swsetup\sp41954) and find the file FirmwareUpdater.exe.  Right-click on the file and select properties.  Click the Compatibility tab and select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)".  Launch FirmwareUpdater.exe and create a bootable diskette.  If you are running XP, you can create the bootable diskette from the sp41954 directly.
Power off the laptop.  Connect the USB Floppy drive with the newly created diskette to the laptop.  Hold down all four arrow keys while turning on the laptop.  Continue to hold down the four arrow keys until you see either the num-lock or cap-lock key flashing ( don't remember which).  It should be reading from the diskette.  After a minute or so, the laptop should reboot and operate normally.
When I did this, I disconnected everything from the laptop and removed the battery.  I do not know if it was necessary to remove everything or not.
    Hope this helps.

  • P67 GD80 B3 board not booting after bios flash error 98

    Hey
Got a bit of a problem now after a bios flash on my P67 GD80
Been having some stange problems with the system not booting with multi over x50. Tried a newer bios didn't work then with a older bios just to see if there was a diference.
And sure there was a diference beacause now it shows the 98 post error all the time.
    Same problem as this guy.

    98 error and black screen.
I know that this board has dual bios and it can swith between the two if one of them goes wrong. It have done that before then i was benching but now i can't get it to work...
Is my board just a paper weight now or is there something i can try to get it to switch to number 2 bios?

Is the BIOS blue LED blinking or solid? If no BIOS LED at all, then there is hope. Try & force to POST from the secondary by removing all the RAM except for a stick in the primary blue dimm slot. With power cord removed from the PSU, remove the battery for ahwile, clear CMOS, & test. If you had the Auto BIOS Update enabled before the failure, it should flash the primary. If not enabled, first thing if you can get in to BIOS is to enable Auto Update, shut down & restart & hope for the best.

  • 20.1 and Z68 gd80 b3.

So the 20.1 and Z68 gd80 b3.  Is that bios only for Ivy bridge ?

Added: Additional information to Reply #5. It was rumored that PCI-E 3.0 was able to be enabled on this specific board when an Ivy CPU was used, I remain skeptical of this as the PCI-E slots are not hardware compliant as they don't have the needed contact fingers. Is it possible a workaround was found to this hardware limitation? Don't know since I no longer have a B3 to test this one way or the other.
This is also one of the rarer mainboards that can be safely crossflashed. If not intending to install an Ivy CPU, it is still recommemded to not flash an Ivy UEFI/BIOS. Flash is not without risk, so think twice before attempting it.

  • Ram problem! (msi z68-gd80,g3)

    Hey there.
have a problem with my new ripjaw x series ram 1866. ( and all other ram)
Tried installing all 16 gb of it earlier today and apparently only the first blue and black ram slot work.
Before i updated my bios to the newest one the pc wouldn't even load it would automaticly restart, but after getting the newest version of bios the computer keeps running but no signal to the screen.
I tried mem test on all 4 sticks by using them on the first two slots 1 black and 1 blue and there are no errors.

Also, please read the >>Posting Guide<< and provide full system specs (especially precise model names/numbers of the memory modules you are talking about here).
How and where do i change those settings? Am a total newbie so you'll have to be patient with me..
In the overclock setting of the bios tried changing the volt to and freq to what you said but after changing that even the working 2 didn't work.. so i had to reset bios.

Hmm?  Wow.  That's odd that something IS indeed different enough that those BIOS doesn't work on your card but does on mine.  There must have been some revisions made on the physical board or something in the firmware hardware or something.  ??
How old is your card?  I just got mine in the last 3 weeks and though stock can sit around at suppliers for weeks, experience dictates that because stock is a 'revolving door', often the actual age of a component is somewhat relevant to when it is purchased.
I simply wouldn't try the Lightning BIOS for many reasons.  Good advice and good to know either way.
I'm not willing to risk an expensive card but I've read of others who have flashed an HIS and Powercolor to an ASUS BIOS.  Wonder if things like that are possible and what are the potential implications?  I do have an old(er) 7970 than may be a good experimental device.

    Mine is SLIGHTLY different...
Edit: I managed to flash V308MH.111 over V308MH.160 but it black screened as I got into Windows.. Since our cards have the same release date I thought maybe they were the same after all...
Edit2: I know it sounds like a no brainer but don't EVER EVER flash a lightning vBIOS on the gaming edition, screen wouldn't receive signal anymore. I managed to reflash the stock vBios thanks to MSI's genius 2-bios switch solution :D
Edit3: I tried flashing MH.100, same as 111, black screen in Windows

  • Msi p67a gd65 with p67a gd80 beta bios

In my experience, for a 2700k, UEFI/BIOS v1.H proved to be the very best one.
I would go ahead and use what P D says there, he did a lot of testing on his many builds the past few years and knows more about it that most other people.
What I had in my last reply was just the basic required info you needed to answer question about 2700K support after going through 1/2 dozen lists needed to find my info.

  • MSI Z68-GD80 (G3) Big Problems

So I have gotten my MSI Z68-GD80 (G3) Motherboard 1050 Watt powersupply from corsair 16GB of ram Corsair Vengence GTX 580 Twin Frozr II 2600K and a H80. At Stock Speeds My computer just frezzes in till i reset my computer or it automatically restarts and i have been losing Work Info because of this problem. In Prime 95 i ran it for a hour no Errors or anything. When i Enable OC genie Prime 95 Crashed in 30 minutes my computer freezes loud noise comes out of my headphones. Then i try pressing reset button no respond so i had to turn of my powersupply. btw my highest temp on the core was 55C. This usally happenes when i play games like: MW2,WAW,Crossfire,CSS,TF2,and so On. Btw im on the latest UEFI and drivers i believe since i used the LiveUpdate.
If i have to RMA this Board can I drop it off at MSI Viking Road Richmond I Live Near there.

Have you tried it without OC Genie ? What are the results ?  Which BIOS are you using ?
Only insert one memory module. Do a CMOS clear >>Clear CMOS Guide<<  Remove the battery for a while.
Ensure that EuP2013, Spread Spectrum and XMP are disabled.
Retest with only one memory module.

  • Z68a-GD80 b3 bios fail ?

    Hi,
i recently bricked my p67a-gd65 b3 via bios flash (both bios corrupted), and i got the z68a-gd80 b3 in return from msi,
now i do need to say when i first turned on my pc i immediately noticed the blue bios light was flashing, so i knew the first bios had failed and its now running on the second bios.
So i figured, lets update the bios, and i downloaded the latest bios version 20.1. And so i booted into dos, started to update Intel ME and then it flashed the backup bios.... then it automaticly rebooted and the infinite bootcycle maraton began... everything powers on for 1 sec and it dies, powers on for 1 sec and it dies.. etc et, there are no blue bios lights on when powering on so i thing the bios is partly corrupted, enough to NOT boot, but also enough to not turn on the bios lights on the mobo anyone got any idea ? i really don´t want to rma the board cuz i just got it like a few days, and the RMA proces of the p67a/gd65 took almost 2 months :(
    Thanks in advance!

  • Does 870a-G54 NON FX Motherboard now support Vishera CPU's after bios flash?

I have the non fx version of the 870a-g54, I have the latest bios flashed on my motherboard right now and in the description of the bios update it reads "- Update AGESA code for Vishera CPU"
So is this support for FX cpus now ?
Is the 870a-g54 FX board the same as the mainboard non fx with just support for FX out of the box?
I'm confused, I would really love to upgrade my CPU, I know my motherboard has weak power phasing so I won't be overclocking at all if I did upgrade.
    THoughts?

OK, here's a list from MSI I found that support Vishera, if anyone can prove otherwise then go by this list. There is no sense going back and forth without definite proof, as far as I'm concerned the proof is this list.

Right there -> 890FXA-GD65 ,white socket , has FX support. So white or black it simply has to be tested and stated to work.
It was stated to work with FX 5 months before the CPU release. And this is just one example
Anyway i would say FX  CPU-s SHOULD be used with boards released last year ,just to be safe it doesn t blows up when the CPU reaches some Turbo State.
FX series needs proper VRM stages.

  • BIOS flash for KT4-Ultra FISR

    Hi
I have a question about BIOS flashing for the KT4-Ultra FISR board.  I currently have version 1.1 of the BIOS and was told that I need at least 1.2 to recognize my AthlonXP 2500+ correctly. (It currently shows as a 1.1Ghz athlon with the FSB set to 100MHz * 11 multiplier)
Is it worth moving up to 1.3 or 1.4 instead of just 1.2?
    Thanks
    KT4-Ultra FISR (MS6590 v1.1)
    AthlonXP 2500+ (barton)
    Zalman Copper flower heatsink
    512 MB DDR333 RAM
    Powercolor Radeon 9700 Pro
Antec Soho 1080 case (430W truepower supply)

I would have to guess BIOS may make a difference. Although XP2200+ and XP2500+ Barton both run at 1.83GHz, the BIOS may be confused as to the processor type if the Barton was released after the initial BIOS version. Only 2700+ and 2800+ were 333 FSB at the time of BIOS release maybe... then again, I am a useless tech... just a guess is all I have to offer.
