  • Z87-GD65 fails to boot when I enable X.M.P.

Guys, Looking for any advise out there.  I have two systems with new Z87-GD65 with an Intel 4770K and 16GB ADATA RAM and one of the systems fails to boot whenever I enable X.M.P.  I've switched out the RAM from one system to the other and everything is fine on one and same thing on the other.  I've tried clearing out the CMOS and booting from both sets of bios.  I have OC turned off.  Everything is fine until I enable X.M.P.  I'm at a loss any ideas?
    Thanks,

sounds like a bad motherboard, trying different kind/brand of RAM would help. also, I am assuming the CPU fan is firmly plugged in in "CPU fan header" on the board, right? is there 1 or 2 of those? try one RAM stick in all slots one at a time, then same with other stick. if all that fails, i would think it's a mobo.

  • Z87 GD65 bios flash result in freeze.

    Hey guys,
    First time MSI customer here.
I bought the GD65-Gaming, it came with bios v1.1, downloaded v1.9, formatted a USB stick to FAT32, copied the file E7845IMS.190 to the root of the USB stick, went to bios, m-flash chose the 2nd option (bios + ME), chose the file and it just froze. I waited 3-4 minutes and nothing was showing on the screen and i was not able to move the mouse cursor. I tried two different USB keys, one NTFS and one FAT32. none of which worked.
    Am Running 4770k , gtx 670, 16gb kingston beast @ 1333mhz and Windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition.
Please help me resolve this, I'm pleading you.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Open http://www.speedtest.net/ site from Internet explorer [Not with other browsers]
and let flash player to install
the flash player version must be for Internet explorer, not for other browsers.
then killer manager will able to perform the tests

First, try the network driver here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=174229.0
I installed this via Device Manage > Update Driver > Browse Computer For Folder > Killer E220x/Win 7(I'm assuming it's backwards compatible with Vista 32bit)
It says it's installed, but it gave me Error Code 39.

    thanks for your comment ...
BIOS updating is a necessary thing as MSI does not support my GPU on its mainstream BIOS updates.
as it happens, another member of the forum told me that these BIOS updates were actually supported by MSI:

  • Flashing of MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING failed and dual bios not helping, not sure why?

    Hi all
For the first time in 20 years Ive had a firmware flash fail it seems.
I have a MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING and updated the bios with the latest firmware via the "M-FLASH" utility within the systems bios.
All seemed to have gone well, it flashed to 100% rebooted and then just a blank screen and a sequence of keyboard light flashes.
After a minutes panic I thought not to worry, the motherboard has a dual bios.   So I powered down and switched the bios switch to bios B hoping it would assist and the problem is identical.
    Any tips anyone?

I just tried this along with removing power from the main board and it seems one of the two did it!   thanks

  • Z87 gd65 Intel Management Engine Driver fails to install.

The Intel Management Engine Driver from the MSI z87-gd65 website did not install correctly.
I was updating some drivers here and there and noticed a newer version of the MEI had been released.  The installation procedure came back with a nasty error, and a pesky exclamation point showed up in my device manager.  I was able to install the newest version (10.0.0.1204) by googling for Management Engine Interface and downloading directly from microsoft, but I would have preferred to use the file on the MSI site, as I believe the one I used was intended for another motherboard.
This is the driver I ended up installing, which worked correctly.
Was anyone else having problems updating the management engine driver?

There is nothing wrong with downloading from Intel's page. It's them providing the driver anyway, and MSI just used it on their product page to make it easier to find; there's no specific driver of Intel ME for specific motherboard or setup. So you're fine.

  • New Z87-GD65 USB Issues?

Trying to find out if I need to return a newly installed board to the store for an exchange. I have another PC, with this same board, that was built back in August, and it works great.
If I go into the BIOS, sometimes the USB drive is detected and sometimes not. Had to reboot 3 or 4 times to even get it to see a usb drive to load Windows 8.1.
In windows it will detect a usb flash drive about half the time. I have an ASUS N-53 USB Wireless stick that has only been detected one time. NOTE - All of the items I have plugged in work without fail, on the same board, in another PC. I thought it first it was maybe the front ports in the case (Fractal Design R4) but it has the same issue on the backside ports that are coming directly off the board.
I have reset the bios to defaults and also flashed the bios to latest. Also tried it on bios B to make sure it wasn't something specific to BIOS A. Since I was having the issues before even installing Windows, I'm going with a faulty board. Before I go through the trouble of returning the board, is their anything else I can do to check?

    As a follow-up...
I went back to the store and did an exchange. The new board is working like a champ, so I assume the USB controller was bad on the original. Just got unlucky on that last one.
As I stated previously, this is my second Z87-GD65 and I really like it. I would recommend.

  • MSI Z87-GD65, Freezing while gaming, then reboot loop/bsod/total failure.

    Hey fellow MSI'ers
Im hoping to find a solution for my problem i have been getting. I build a custom gaming rig a few months ago (specs below)
Sinds a couple of days iv been getting wierd problems, System runs fine, i can do everything watch movies do work stuff. But when i start gaming it will work great for about 15-30 minutes, then i hear a click/beep thru the sound system, and a total pc freeze, screen freezes nothing works.
So i hit the reboot, then the system decides to turn itself off and get into a reboot loop, turning on for few seconds then turning off again for a few back on for a few, etc etc.
Only way i can get it running is pull the power, make sure the Motherboard has no charge left, then wait a bit and replug the power. Most times it will boot up fine and story starts at part 1 again.
First off i thought it would be temperature, tho im running a almoost ull watercooled system, (Ramm + cpu + video) and i put up temp controlls on my seconds screen, and they never got above 35, on any of the components.
Now seeing my build it is extreemley hard to quickly test a diffirent component, been running memtest with no problems, But when i do graphx/cpu stresstest/benchmark i get the same issue.
As i stated before it has been running perfectly for few months.
I read that PSU might be a problem, compatability wise with Haswell, tho then it wouldnt have worked for so long and just now giving these strange problems.
    What i tryéd so far:
    -Reinstall windows
    -Flash bios
    -clear bios
    -unplug as much as possible
    -diffirent ramm
-Running with or without crossfire enabled.
All same problems, i hope somebody has a idea without having to pull apart my custom build.
    Specs:
    -Cooler Master HAF XB
    -Intel Haswell 4770k
    -MSI Z87-GD65
    -2x Asus 7970 in Crossfire.
    -Corsair Dominator GT 2x4gb
    -Corsair ForceGT 128GB SSD
    -Antec TruePower 1200
    -2x 512gb Seagate MomentusXT

UPDATE: Been running bencharmks/stresstest from onboard graphix, both cards disconnected. (lots of towels to be sure) and runs without problems, tho reallo low fps but thats expected.
Going to see if i can run 1 card at a time, see if i can cause the problem to happen again.
So did you agtually try it?
Yep, bleeding is nice job and dooing it right on all steps is needed so yeah great, but if your CPU can handel the stress and you have tested the PSU then i cant see other way.
Tip: take the hard loop, pipe, bridge(betwean the blocks away and add two 90angle fittings with long tobe, so you can rest each card away the pc 1 at time that way you dont need to bleed the system bitwean.
(allso rest of the toops needs to be so long that it can be far away...)
And yes you need reg edit your SATA drivers like xmad sayd, if you like to change IDE to RAID.
P.s. nice build! Hope you get it working
Edit: You dont need to insert that PSU in the case, just connect wires whrere they need to be, at the momen for testing.
Edit2: My current needs little service and update( add backplate, water change, delid cpu and moving GPU to bottom slot).
Edit3: Wait that one 120mm low Rad keeps your sytem 32c??? Damn you have great chips, cold house or software issue. need for delid main is the heat i dont like and i have hmm 10 times that space to get heat off :D

  • Z87-GD65 weirdness

    Hi,
I just installed a Z87-GD65 in my desktop, replacing a Z68a-GD65. Booted up to my old windows install, let the drivers install, installed the ones that were missing from CD. Installed LiveUpdate 6. Flashed the BIOS to 1.A, and rebooted. The board does not want to reboot, but when I power it off and then power on again, it boots just fine.
So then I go to install the updated drivers in LiveUpdate and got all of them installed, but I am getting an error with the Intel ME drivers. When I pick Download, it gives me an error that the computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements. So I rebooted and tried again, without success. Eventually, something happened, I'm not sure what, and now every time I power down to reboot, it powers on, sits with a black screen for about 20 seconds, powers off again, then back on and displays a screen that indicates the CMOS settings were cleared and to press F1 to enter setup or F2 to continue.
Any insight or assistance with this issue will be appreciated.

I did a little more research on switching the BIOS while the machine is booted, something akin to the really old method of recovery of booting a known good board, removing the BIOS chip (when they were removable) while the system was booted and inserting the bad board's chip, then flashing, which would allow you to recover the bad board.
I was able to successfully flash. Details and steps below.
When I initially flashed to 1.B using mFlash, the screen went black on me mid-flash but I wasn't looking at it to see what percentage it was at. I let it sit for somewhere between 30-60 seconds before powering down and trying to boot again. It didn't look good because the screen didn't come on. So I switched to B but later on switched back to A to play around with it and see if I could get anything. That's when I got stuck and posted the original message.
After much research, if you go into setup on B, load up mFlash, select the USB stick, switch to A, then select the file to flash, it will flash the A chip.
So because of the problem I had before, I decided to watch it like a hawk. I lost video again. It was at 47%. I let it sit. This time for 2-3 minutes after the video cut out, figuring that the previous flash must have continued anyways and that it wouldn't reboot properly on it's own anyways, and that the previous flash must have gotten really close to the end in order for it to not have been a completely failed flash.
That seems to have done the trick. I powered it down, powered up, no video. Powered down again. Powered up, got video for a few seconds, then lost it again. Powered down a third time, powered up and it booted straight into Windows.
My guess is that whatever is causing the reboots to fail, when I power it down, that's doing the same thing that the reboots would have done.
Now I get to test the reboot issue on the latest BIOS and make sure that I can actually save my setup settings. If I have any issues with either of those, I'll make a new thread.

  • Z87-GD65 BIOS A Issue

New to the forum and MSI boards.
This happened about a month ago when I was using "Live Updater" (I know, BIG mistake). My system crashed during the update and would not restart afterward. The screen would just go black then the system would restart and sit with a black screen. At the the time I needed my system running and just booted up using BIOS B. Everything worked and is working fine when using BIOS B. So now that I have a little extra time on my hands I decided I would fix the corrupted BIOS, but I'm unable to get the USB drive to boot. I tried the method of booting with the good BIOS and then flipping the switch to the failed one and flashing from the USB drive. It got about 50% and my system reset with the same black screen. My debug is coming up with code 36. Any ideas?
    System specs:

    Quote
Last week I replaced a defective Z77-GD65 with a new one. Since the first one came without an operational BIOS last August (I fixed that somehow with a BIOS-update on a memory stick, but I can't remember how I did that!) I just assumed the BIOS on the new board would be outdated too. So after a succesful trial boot-up I updated the BIOS (10.8 to 10.10).
After that, I could no longer boot into Windows: soon after starting the OS-boot the system would restart. Back to 10.8 I have had no more trouble. I am thinking the newest BIOS-version is no good.
Are you talking about a Z77 and not a Z87 as listed in the topic title? Did you post in the wrong thread?
