ok just wanted to update , well had to reload everything, it lost half the registry and changed everything to .lnk extensions, so im pretty sure the bsod  was caused my issues because I didn't reload the OS fresh, and the bios was using a 1.0 flash , now since reload everything is all happy, im currently running a 4.7 Oc with 1.31 v on the cpu, 1.6v on the ram and 1.91 on vccin, and so far its stable and holding, so lesson learned "reload os when adding new mb and cpu" and make sure the bios is up to date.  after everthing is reinstalled I may try a 5.0 OC cause I kinda made that y goal currently I think its entirely possible considering its dl,ng multiple filesgames and checking my raid 5 volume, and the temp is37-41c so so far so good, if anyone wants to throw so suggestions feel free but so far I am thinking 4.7 is the magic number hmmm

  • Z97 gaming 9 + 4790k 5.0ghz QQQ???

So I decided to change from my z7a-gd65/3770 combo and go this route and for a few days (no gaming) I have had it clocked @5.0 and it hasn't gave an issue, watched movies, did multiple things, it seeded stable with the exception of a (99) hang up which a reset did the job, but tonight, ot BSOD on me with something about clock and I have been playing with it trying to get back to the 5.0 I was at but I'm unfamiliar with a couple things in the bios on this such as vccin, and ring voltage, I figured the vccin is the voltage supplied to the processor for all the functions,
so far im at 4.6 on all 4 cores with a vccin of 1.9040, and everything else is auto currently temp is at 38c, and before was 40c @the 5.0
when I tried to change the cpu core to 1.28,1.30 @5.0 it hangs with a2,or b2 and I have to revert to what I am at now...
I don't get it, it seemed stable then out of nowhere.....
    suggestions are appreciated

  • Tips / hints /advice.. Upgrade Z97 Gaming 7, 4790K

    Hi all,
I'm awaiting delivery of my new setup, z97 gaming 7 motherboard, Intel 4790k processor, corsair 16gb XMS3 1600MHz DDR3. Will be using existing ssd, bluray burner, graphics card, chieftec 750w psu, antec case.
Been reading about BIOS issues and CPU compatibility issues, does anyone have any tips, thoughts or advice on what to look out for during the build?
Thanks in advance for any help / advice.
    RM

The only issue you might encounter is if the BIOS installed on the motherboard is v10 instead of v13. The i7 4790k requires v13 in order to work.
I would prepare to have another CPU from a friend or another computer available in order to update the BIOS, if required.

sounds like along with drivers, you also flashed your BIOS and this failed and caused this issue

I tried to put the MSI Z97 BIOS on a flash drive and reboot with that, but nothing happens. There are no beeps, just the harddrives booting up and then nothing more..
place your old BIOS version on the USB key not renamed and place the USB key in rear USB ports
then see if BIOS can be recovered
else you have to RMA it as there is no dual BIOS solution on it

to what bios version live update update it?
have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed?
can you list full system specs see >>Posting Guide<<
about bios recovery, boot with working bios, and go to bios setup, then select m-flash, switch your bios chips

    To Kuba..
    1. Could you state clearly what is the original boot sequence of your HDD shown in the bios?
you mentioned that after you reset from Windows or from DOS then the sequence will changed??   how often will this symptoms happened.
    2. If you only use the Intel SSD 520 + the Normal HDD (remove DVD and the Samsung SSD) , will you see the boot sequence lost issue?
    3. What do you mean by the below??  you can't flash bios 1.5 in DOS mode???  please help explain in details
BIOS 1.5 from the support site (no matter eu or global) won't run on Windows 8.1. the file downloaded by msi live update runs normally. Can somebody help and share BIOS 1.5 installer?
    Regards
    Orginal boot sequence:
    1: SSD Intel 520 (system)
    2: SSD Samsung 840
    3: HDD
Mobo was traing to set Samsung at first place, but after disconnecting this drive, it put HDD on fist place. So i disconnected all other drives, and mobo shows only question marks in Intel SSD field.
I never had any problems with this intel SSD, it works perfect, samsung behaves the same way, it disappears randomly.
Sometimes all works correct, some times some drive is missing, it does not matter the restart is made on windows, dos, or on bios. Totally random.
When i switch to second bios (1.3) all works fine, only on 1.6 freaking out.
When i what start bios package from msi-support site windows shows "this app. can't be run on this system", thats all (there are 3 files i archive). File downloaded by msi-update starts normally (and this is only one exe file), unzip and run dos-mode update.  Unfortunately, I removed the file with 1.5 downloaded by msi live update.
Maybe the bios package is dedicated to installing from usb-drive through m-flash ?
And on the windows can update only through msi-live update? I really do not know, I'm confused.

    Hi
    Try single RAM stick
Also try to boot when motherboard is on non conductive surface like wooden table or motherboard box
Try clearing CMOS with power cord removed >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
    Maybe battery replacement will help
If above fails, disconnect everything, remove CPU and inspect CPU socket with magnifying glass and bright light.
Edit: with single RAM stick, make sure to test each RAM stick at the time, each time in different slot.

The thing is: cheap PSU that you've used in old build is most likely not support Haswell (Refresh) so that might be causing different issues too. And personally: yes I will defend it til the death. Cheap PSU can kill anything instantly, and the fact it works with old system... well. It's OLD system and so is PSU.
Also you're mixing RAM. This motherboard will work perfectly with either 1, 2 or 4 RAM sticks, never 3.
I think you should speak to the reseller OR MSI, since you think that motherboard killed all the drives (I wonder how... mobo is connected to them only through SATA cables which deliver NO power to them)..

    I'm using a Corsair CS650m.
I've noticed the CPU support issue after I encountered my problem and was surprised to see this, my understanding that the gaming boards did support the new Haswells, at least with a recent BIOS. In fact, there are some references online to BIOS update issues for this CPU.
Let me ask a crazy question: Is it possible that I've somehow POSTed correctly and what I'm seeing now is the CPU term? I'm wondering because the numbers (42-44) fluctuate a bit.  I know that POST and POST2 can be used for CPU temp, but I'm not sure how one distinguishes between that and a debug code.

70 °C with aftermarket cooler?  Either you got bad CPU (with bad thermal solution between the chip and lid itself) or the cooler is completely screwed..
1.25V is quite a lot. For my i5 4670 on 3.6GHz I use fixed 1.050V and it's all good and pretty cool, though it also was getting around 1.15 (or above, can't remember) on default settings.
So what you can do is set 3.8GHz fixed on your CPU, run Intel Burn Test together with CPU-Z and see the max V you get then. And for example if you get around 1.15V, try to use 1.08V. If all good (Intel Burn Test it then), try even lower 1.07V until you reach the point where it will BSOD (I believe) or not boot properly.
But getting the right cooler is the most important and you shouldn't be hitting these temps with aftermarket one.

I'm just curious, did you update your mobo bios to latest release? Also, what speed do you usually keep your cpu at?
I have updated my BIOS to latest version only because I though I had BIOS problem -> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=252562.msg1451633#msg1451633
Turned out it wasn't, but no one replied at the time.
I keep ,y CPU as high as temperatures allows,. I run 3 Prime95 threads 24/7 + 1 more at night time, and I prefer CPU package temps to be at low 60s.
Currently @ 4HGz 1.16v under load (tad above default 1.15v)
