Movement of drop zones appears jerky on preview

Hi,
I am using the Reflection Black theme in iDVD 6. I put an individual photo into each drop zone but on preview, the movement of the panels is really jerky and does not appear smooth at all. Is it supposed to be like that ?
Also, how do you add several photos to each drop zone. I know it is possible to do this but each time I try to move several photos, it just replaces one and does not allow more.
Any suggestions ?

I used that theme and it was jerky every time I launched iDVD and in Preview. The DVD is fine.
Also, how do you add several photos to each drop zone...it just replaces one and does not allow more.
I think you can only have one image in each drop zone. Some previous drop zones allowed multiple images.

Can drop zones accept more than one movie clip? Everytime I try, I get the message, "Action not supported in iDVD".

    Hi dodger48,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Can drop zones accept more than one movie clip? No. You can put the clips together into one with iMovie and use that.

  • Exact Frames for movie in drop zone

I am trying to get some exact frames for a movie in one of my drop zones. Looks like the slider only moves in 30 second increments. I know this correlates to the length of the loop for my menu. However, I would like to know if there's a way to move the slider more precisely. There is a certain frame I would like it start on and I just can't seem to get the slider to stop on it.

Well, I have my Leopard disks, but have not installed it on this computer.....tried it out on my son's Mac mini first. Not sure I am ready for it yet. Maybe after reading that all the initial problems with it have been resolved......mayber after the 5th revision !
I do use the 7 themes in iDVD and have not had freezing issues, just the slider inexactness.

  • Background movie and drop zones?

Hello everyone, I'm Dion (David's son), and I'm trying to make an iDVD theme which has a custom moving background and drop zones.
I'm modifying the theme "Sliding Panes", which has seven drop zones. When I drag my custom movie either to the background of the theme or to the Background well in the Settings pane, the background movie is applied, but the drop zones disappear. I've tried everything I can think of (which isn't much, I'm not an iDVD veteran) to avoid this, which includes opening the Drop Zone Editor and then trying to drag the movie to the Background well, which, obviously, doesn't work.
I would sincerely appreciate any advice or answer anyone has - even if it doesn't work.

If you replace the theme background with anything you're going to remove the drop zones that are designed to play within that theme's background. I guess it has "holes" in the background where the drop zones play. You would have to have transparent spots in your movie so the drop zones would play thru. Even then I'm not sure replacing the theme background wouldn't remove the drop zones from use.
You could try the following. Select the sliding panes theme and make it a favorite. The in your User/Library/iDVD/favorites folder find that theme, go into the them package, locate the Contents/Resurces folder in there and substitute your movie for the backgroundmoive that's in there. You'll have to rename your movie accordingly. That may do it. Be sure to do it on a favorite copy so in case it doesn't work you can just remove that them from that folder.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Insert Movie into drop zone?

When I drop my movie in which is a logo animation I made in Lightwave the logo goes way beyond the edges in height and width. If I scale the drop zone To the size of the movie (320x240), it just scales the movie up along with it. What gives?

How are you making the drop zone?
If you drag the movie from the bin to the menu, you can scale to any size in inspector
If you are setting it into a pre-made shape such as with borders) you can still adjust in inspector but the movie is part of the inspector
(Also note that you should be careful about posting the same issue a few times in a short period of time, people will answer, just give it some time)

  • Drop Zone =[ sad bunny

Hi, I'm new to Flash and Actionscript,
I'm using Actionscript 3, I've created an flv just to test
things out, see what I can do and so on,
I created a drag and drop MC object, the script for the
    dragging of orangebox works fine,
I then created a Drop zone, but when I preview the movie and
click the button that navigates to the
frame that contains the drag and drop, I get this error:
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no
    properties.
    at Testing_fla::MainTimeline/frame5()
I was aiming to get the frame to change once the object is
    dropped into the zone,
the movable object's instance name is orangebox and the
    dropzone's is yellowbox
these are both Movie Clips, dimensions of orangebox = 100x100
and yellowbox = 200x200 if it helps.
Help will be very much appreciated, Thank you

By the way, I included some of my other errors in the script,
before I changed the ._x and ._y 's into DisplayObject
because the Compiler Error box told me to.
    thanks again =]

  • Drop Zones iDVD

i think i have followed the directions for creating mini slideshows in drop zones, but when i preview my menu the photos don't change. they just stay on the first photo in each zone. any thoughts as to how to get the slideshows to play in the drop zones? thanks

Try extending the amount of time the slideshows are on in the drop zones. There is a slider. Try fooling around in the controls if that doesn’t work.

  • Drop Zone referencing time code 00:00:00:00

FCPX drop zone is referencing timecode 00:00:00:00 in my Motion template.  How can I use drop zone footage with a different timecode?

I appreciate the post Fox and the link to your fine video on using the Comparator Generator; however, what I'm finding is that when multiple drop zones appear in a project clip they seem to reference the first drop zone.  (Your example uses only one drop zone. I've never had a problem syncing video with only one drop zone.)  My post, that I referenced above, didn't specify using this procedure, but that is exactly what I did.  Just to review a portion of that post:
For the first test I placed each Drop Zone within one Group in Motion.  Drop Zones start at the following timecode for each location as follows:
    UL: 00:00:00:00
    LL: 00:00:10:00
    UR: 00:00:20:00
    LR: 00:00:30:00
After publishing the project, I loaded it into FCP X.  I used the same timecode video for each Drop Zone starting it at timecode value 00:01:00:00.  Now, one would think that each drop zone window, having been placed exactly 10 seconds apart, would show timecode values for the inserted videos also each 10 seconds apart.  But they don't!  All four Drop Zones show exactly the same timecode value.  They are acting as if all four were placed within the Motion 5 timeline starting at 00:00:00:00.  But they weren't.
I perfectly aligned the start point for each timecode clip segment for it's appropriate drop zone, (first one at 00:00:00:00; second at 00:00:10:00; third at 00:00:20:00 and fourth at 00:00:30:00) but found that FCP X ignored the clip's cursor location for all but the first drop zone.  Each of the other three referenced that first drop zone and when playing the project back, the timecode readout in each window precisely matched when they should have been 10 seconds apart.
However, I also found that if I loaded the drop zones in reverse, starting with the last and moving to the first, using the exact same procedure, then all four drop zones synced perfectly.  Honestly, it's got me scratching my head.  I'm now working on a project that uses 12 drop zones and I'm seriously considering creating each drop zone video clip separately, exporting them from FCP X, importing them into Motion directly, then export the Motion project as a video which I can then import into FCP X.  I shouldn't have to do that, but at least that seems to work.

  • Drop Zone Delay?

I've made my DVD menu in FCP and have added a video transition attached to the front (so I can have the sound). The problem I have now is this, is there a way to delay a Drop Zone so that it doesn't pop up during my transition? Right now my transitions are about 5 seconds, and the drop zone appears in the middle of the transition. Or will I need to create them in Motion?

You'll definitely need to create them in Motion or any other compositing app, I'm afraid. A drop zone is simply a specific space on a menu for you to add other content. You can't delay the arrival of that zone into the playback - so you'll have to build it elsewhere and bring it in to DVDSP as an asset.

  • Movie Clips in Drop Zones?

I want to place movie clips into the drop zones, but cannot figure out how to do this. When I go to "Media" my movie clips are not available. The movie appears in the bottom portion of the media window, but I cannot get individual clips to put into the zone.

There's a bug in iDVD where indiviadual clips in a folder, that have other folders in with them, don't show up.
Put your clips in a folder without any other folders.

  • Drop Zones shows correct image but previews using old photo with same name

Everyday I do my customer DVD's in the same format. I capture, then edit, take eight screen shots (as jpeg's) to use in iDVD for the title screen. Then after I have checked the completed DVD I delete the Jpeg's and the iDVD project. I also delete the iMovie project as I use a standard template with promo at the start and credits at the end.
After upgrading to iDVD 6 (i did upgrade iMovie 5 to 6 but had to go back because of bugs) I have noticed that when I add my jpeg's to the drop zones they appear correct but the preview in the background shows another jpeg. Looks like a previous jpeg used for another project that I have since deleted.
Has anyone else had this problem. I found that if I go back and rename the latest images I want to use (i normally just use a generic name like c1, c2, c3 etc) it works fine until now. But I am sure this problem will resurface with time even using full names.

    All,
    I had the same issue.
In my case, Blob Cache was enabled for the web application in which the image issue was occuring.
I cleared blob cache, and after doing a hard refresh of my browser, the correct image was then displayed.
To clear blob cache, do the following:
    Navigate to:
    http://yourwebapp:port/yoursite/_layouts/objectcachesettings.aspx
Select:  "Object Cache Flush"  and  "Force all servers in the farm to flush their object cache" check boxes
    Click the OK button
    Hope this helps.

  • Drop zone movie playback

i have a movie playing in the drop zone, which is about 1hour in actual length. is there a way to specify the start and end points of what is played in the menu/drop zone.
at the moment it only plays from the start of the movie, but i want it to playback footage at a certain point in the movie?? eg not from 0 sec - 30 sec, but 45sec - 1min
    thanks

    Hi Tarun Thind
Welcome to apple discussions. yes, you can control the start point of drop zone movies but the control /slider may be very limited. You may have better luck with the pro apps for more precise editing features.
    Help menu says the following:
Setting the duration of a movie in a drop zone
Movies that appear in drop zones have the same duration as the background movie of the menu, if there is one. You can change the duration of all drop zone movies and the background movie.
To change the duration of all the movies on the menu:
Click the Menu button and drag the Loop Duration slider to the number of seconds you want the movies to loop, up to the length of the longest movie.
Setting where background video begins and ends
When you use video as a menu's background, you can use the entire video or just a part of it. To use just a part of the video, you set where you want it to begin and end.
To specify the video you want to show:
Go to the menu that uses the background video you want to adjust and then click Menu.
Click the small triangle above the Loop Duration slider. (You only see the triangle when custom video is in the background well.)
The slider control becomes the Background Movie Start/End control, shown above, and the slider is split in half.
Move the left half of the slider until you see the part of the video that you want at the beginning.
Move the right half of the slider until you see the part of the video that you want at the end.
Click the triangle again to return to the Loop Duration slider.
    hope this is helpful

  • I have 3 consecutive movie clips that I am trying to drop into the drop zone but it only recognizes the first one and only produces the firts one in a DVD. How can I drop all three  movie clips into one drop zone

On IDVD, I have 3 consecutive movie clips that I am trying to drop into the drop zone to create a DVD but it only recognizes the first one I dropped and only produced the first one in a DVD. How can I drop all three  movie clips into one drop zone.

I have had some luck doing the following: Export each clip from imovie as a quicktime clip. Open iDVD and create a new project. Import a few stills into iDVD and then click on the button that gets created to get into the screen where the individual slides appear. Drag each quicktime into that screen and arrange in the order you want. You can then delete the stills. The button that appeared when you dropped in the stills will launch a complete show.

  • Is there a way to use the drop zones as a preview area for highlighted video

I'm making a fairly simple dvd menu, using the centre stage theme  Title Page and I was wondering if there was anway to use the drop zone as a preview area for the highlighted video.
    Thanks!

    Hi
It is at least possibly to use some buttons like this - But to get this right I had to make special button movies from the big original movie.
My problem started when I used the original movie that I could not go back far enough for the last buttons and not precise enough either - so by making the small button movies I got 100% control.

  • How to add more drop zones or movies in an idvd menu

I was building a dvd in idvd and ran out of drop zones to fill but I couldn't figure out how to add more drop zones.
I tried different templates but I could find none that had more than 12 drop zones.
Then I was adding movies to the main menu and idvd refused to allow more movies added when I reached 10 movies. It said that the template did not accept more movies.
I tried a few other templates and could not get it to accept more.
I don't want to add submenus because the movies being used do not lend themselves to being put into different submenus.
Is there some way to add more than the default drop zones in an idvd template and to add more movies in a menu without having to use submenus?
    Thanks for any advice.

I couldn't figure out how to add more drop zones
Sorry, the templates 'are what they are'.
I don't want to add submenus because the movies being used do not lend themselves to being put into different submenus.
You need to figure out how to work with what is available.
