Movie Clips in Drop Zones?

I want to place movie clips into the drop zones, but cannot figure out how to do this. When I go to "Media" my movie clips are not available. The movie appears in the bottom portion of the media window, but I cannot get individual clips to put into the zone.

There's a bug in iDVD where indiviadual clips in a folder, that have other folders in with them, don't show up.
Put your clips in a folder without any other folders.

  • Resizing clips in drop zones with motion 5.04

Can someone please help me resize clips in the dropzones.  When I drag the clip into the dropzone it show as too high up causing the head of my subject to be cut off as an example.  I do not see anywhere that shows a "fit" option in the inspector or anywhere else.  I purchase templates with dropzones in place.  Also when I try to resiize the handles that are showing, the complete drop zones resizes.
Is there some parameters I am supposed to using with the clip itself?

The "Adjust Item" tool is contextual, and will only help you move the image around inside of a Drop Zone.
If you need to "resize" the content of a Drop Zone, use the Scale parameter in the Inspector's "Image" section.
I happen to be doing this at the moment myself.

  • Wronge clips in drop zones

When I drag a clip into the drop zone of a theme, a different clip appears and plays in it's place. I have tryed deleting the incorrect clip and drag and pasting again, but the same clip keeps comming up. An suggestions?

There's a bug. Instead of playing the clip you drop in the drop zone, iMovie plays from the beginning of that clip's media file.
As Matti suggested, the solution is to export the clip from the Timeline to a Full Quality movie, then import that movie to the project and drag it to the drop zone.

  • Drop a movie clip to play it

I have a drag and drop set up and I can move the two clips at the bottom around on the stage. When I let go, it snaps back to the original position. I would like to have the user choose a movie clip and drop it in the gray area. On release in that area, I would like the movie to play in the window. Any advice on creating this type of drop trigger would be great. If you know of a tutorial, or sample code, even better.
    Thanks,
    Rich

convert your gray area to a movieclip (eg, preview_mc) and when your movieclips are dropped use a hitTestObject(preview_mc) to determine whether to center the draged movieclip in preview_mc and play it or return it to its start point

  • Drop zone movie playback

i have a movie playing in the drop zone, which is about 1hour in actual length. is there a way to specify the start and end points of what is played in the menu/drop zone.
at the moment it only plays from the start of the movie, but i want it to playback footage at a certain point in the movie?? eg not from 0 sec - 30 sec, but 45sec - 1min
    thanks

    Hi Tarun Thind
Welcome to apple discussions. yes, you can control the start point of drop zone movies but the control /slider may be very limited. You may have better luck with the pro apps for more precise editing features.
    Help menu says the following:
Setting the duration of a movie in a drop zone
Movies that appear in drop zones have the same duration as the background movie of the menu, if there is one. You can change the duration of all drop zone movies and the background movie.
To change the duration of all the movies on the menu:
Click the Menu button and drag the Loop Duration slider to the number of seconds you want the movies to loop, up to the length of the longest movie.
Setting where background video begins and ends
When you use video as a menu's background, you can use the entire video or just a part of it. To use just a part of the video, you set where you want it to begin and end.
To specify the video you want to show:
Go to the menu that uses the background video you want to adjust and then click Menu.
Click the small triangle above the Loop Duration slider. (You only see the triangle when custom video is in the background well.)
The slider control becomes the Background Movie Start/End control, shown above, and the slider is split in half.
Move the left half of the slider until you see the part of the video that you want at the beginning.
Move the right half of the slider until you see the part of the video that you want at the end.
Click the triangle again to return to the Loop Duration slider.
    hope this is helpful

  • Background movie and drop zones?

Hello everyone, I'm Dion (David's son), and I'm trying to make an iDVD theme which has a custom moving background and drop zones.
I'm modifying the theme "Sliding Panes", which has seven drop zones. When I drag my custom movie either to the background of the theme or to the Background well in the Settings pane, the background movie is applied, but the drop zones disappear. I've tried everything I can think of (which isn't much, I'm not an iDVD veteran) to avoid this, which includes opening the Drop Zone Editor and then trying to drag the movie to the Background well, which, obviously, doesn't work.
I would sincerely appreciate any advice or answer anyone has - even if it doesn't work.

If you replace the theme background with anything you're going to remove the drop zones that are designed to play within that theme's background. I guess it has "holes" in the background where the drop zones play. You would have to have transparent spots in your movie so the drop zones would play thru. Even then I'm not sure replacing the theme background wouldn't remove the drop zones from use.
You could try the following. Select the sliding panes theme and make it a favorite. The in your User/Library/iDVD/favorites folder find that theme, go into the them package, locate the Contents/Resurces folder in there and substitute your movie for the backgroundmoive that's in there. You'll have to rename your movie accordingly. That may do it. Be sure to do it on a favorite copy so in case it doesn't work you can just remove that them from that folder.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

You have a one hour movie in a drop zone?? Um ...why?? You know that is not the place to be playing your movie, right? And you know iDVD has a maximum length capacity of 2 hours using Best Quality?
Most people use Drop Zones to show little teaser/highlights of the main movie
To that end, you will have to use an editing app like iMovie or FCE to create a separate little movie to play in the drop zone. I just go back to my original movie and cut out the segment that I want to high lite, give it a new name, an ddrop it into iDVD

  • Can i backtime a clip into a template drop zone?

trying to use a transition template but when i drop the clip into the outgoing clip's drop zone well it goes in from an in point which makes aligning the transition with it's ingoing and outgoing clips a major pain in the ***. Ideally I'd like to just back time the outgoing clip. Can i do this? any other workaround suggestions?
    thanks

thanks. i'm not sure if i did exactly what you meant, but i found a pretty good workaround. I put a marker in the template where the new clip starts, then i line that marker up with the edit point between the clips, giving me the ins and outs as you said.

  • DVD Menu:  Make Person On Background Movie Walk In Front Of Drop Zone?

This is the same idea as the iDVD theme - Fish.
In that, there is a photo frame at the bottom of a fish tank.
The inside of the frame is a drop zone.
A fish on the background/theme movie swims in front of the photo frame containing the movie you have dropped onto the drop zone.
It looks completely realistic and there is no translucency in the fish.
    How is it done?

Just to make it clear, I can do the drop zones etc. it is just that I can't make something on the background movie pass in front of the drop zone.
When I tried it in DVDSP I had partial success by fiddling with the order of the layers but the "fish" was always translucent with the movie in the drop zone showing through it slightly.
I am sure it can be done in Motion?

  • Drop zones & autofill issues

    hi everyone.
so here's my problem - i've created a sequence of videos in imovie, created chapters for those movies in imovie, & then "shared" to idvd. then i load the theme i like in idvd (baby mobile, btw). i'd like for the videos in that group of scenes to be displayed on the animated drop zones, but for some reason every drop zone in every scene selection displays the same movie (which is the first movie chapter). i've tried autofill drop zones but it just puts the same movie on every drop zone.
so, does anyone know how to make the movies for each chapter exported out of imovie appear on their respective drop zones in idvd?
    imovie hd 6.0.2 & idvd 6.0.2

This may be a function of the Theme. I know a theme like Brushed Metal will do what you want when you have chapters; other Themes, like Wedding only shows one clip at a time. Haven't used your theme but I suspect it is the case.
Only workaround I can think of is, to export short movies from the beginning of each chapter and drop them into the indivdual drop zones ... more work and it increases the length/size of your project.
With that kind of Theme I generally create one or two nice mini-movies (anywhere from 30 to 60 secs in length and drop those into the zones

  • Drop zones don't seem to respect in/out...

I'm trying to get started using iMovie HD for some of my simpler projects, but I can't seem to understand the edit model of the application. It seems like a hybrid of the old iMovie and Final Cut in ways that completely confuse me.
I've imported a 5 minute clip. I then use Cmd-T to split it up into usable and un-needed pieces. Then I try to use some of the clips in the theme's dropzones. In all cases it plays from the beginning of the orginal clip and not from the beginning of the split. So it seems like Cmd-T only sets in/out point on the duplicated clip and the drop zones don't respect that. I don't seem to see any option to crop to only the non-hidden frames, nor a way to easily even see the hidden frames to delete them manually.
I would have expected this to still be one of the easy operations, and not a "power user" feature, so I must be overlooking something. Is there any good way to extra subclips from a master clip for use in drop zones? Or do I need to just reimport the master clip as subclips to begin with?

    Welcome to the forum!
No, you're not overlooking something. You've stumbled across an iMovie HD bug, where the drop zone plays the entire SOURCE FILE of the clip, not the split clip that's just part of the file.
The workaround is to export your split clip to a Full Quality movie — use the "Share selected clips only" checkbox in the export dialog to export just that clip — then import THAT movie back into the project. Drop the new movie into the drop zone and it should play correctly.

  • Issue With Drop Zones

Perhaps there's something I'm missing, but whenever I drop clips into bumpers or an opener (specifically, the road trip theme) it shows the a still frame of the clip that is not the beginning of the clip. Whenever I add the desired clip after it, it simply starts from the beginning. Whenever the theme zooms into a clip, shouldn't it seamlessly blend into the clip? I've tried various ways and every time it jumps. At one point it zoomed into a white screen.
    Am I missing something?

That's a known bug. Instead of playing from the start of the clip, the drop zone plays from the start of the clip's source file.
Export the clip to a Full Quality movie, import that movie into the project, then drop it into the drop zone.

  • Not scaling images in drop zone

    Hi,
For some reason when I drop an image into a drop zone in iDVD 6, it will not scale the image so a large chunk of the image is cropped off. Since the image I need to use has some text on it, I'm trying t resize it to fit in an external editor, but no luck as of yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many, many thanks,
    David

    David,
I know I used to have the problem you described back in the iDVD 4 (or earlier) days, but I just did some more checking.
The article Selecting the portion of a movie or image that appears in the drop zone at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/5.0/en/258.html says (in part): When you drag a picture or movie into a drop zone, the aspect ratio of the image is preserved and it is scaled larger or smaller until the top, bottom, left, or right edge of the image meets the edge of the drop zone. You can move the image to choose which portion of the image is visible in the drop zone.
The article was written for iDVD 5 but when I 'fired up' iDVD 6 and tried some 5 megapixel images in the drop zones of several themes, everything worked as advertised in the article.
What theme are you having problems with?

  • Drop Zone Image Adjustment in iDVD '08

I use iDVD 6 for making slideshow DVDs of family functions to send out to my other family members. One of the features that I used in every one of my projects was the ability to drag around any image that you place in the Drop Zone that has been automatically cropped, so that you can pick which part of the image you want to be visible.
In iDVD '08, however, this feature has been removed. What's worse, some of the new themes (Modern, for instance) crop the majority of the images you place into the Drop Zone. I find virtually every new theme in iDVD '08 unusable because of the removal of this feature.
I tried using an old theme from iDVD 6, but I was also unable to adjust the location of my images in relation to the drop zone.
Am I just doing something wrong? In both the toturial vid and the manual, Apple makes no mention of adjusting an image once it's inside the Drop Zone.
In the meantime, I am reverting to iDVD 6. I don't understand why they would remove a feature that was so useful.

*Here's the whole explanation from iDVD Help:*
Repositioning an image or movie in a drop zone
When you drag a picture or movie into a drop zone, the aspect ratio of the image is preserved, but it is scaled larger or smaller to fill the drop zone. As a result, sometimes part of the image is cut off and does not appear in the drop zone. In this case, you can move the image to choose which portion is visible in the drop zone.
_To reposition an image or movie in a drop zone:_
1.) From the drop zone on the menu (not in the drop zone editor), click the image or movie and press Command.
2.) Drag the image until the part you want is visible in the drop zone.
Keep these things in mind as you position an image:
If you drag a narrow image to a drop zone, the image is scaled vertically, and you can move the image up or down only.
If you drag a wide image to a drop zone, the image is scaled horizontally, and you can move the image side to side only.
If you accidentally drag the image too far, you will remove it from the drop zone. (The cursor changes from a hand to a puff of smoke.) Choose Edit > Undo to restore the image to the drop zone.
Repositioning a movie in a drop zone is different from selecting which part of a movie shows in a drop zone (which allows you to select which frame of the movie is displayed in a drop zone). For more information, see Related Topics below.

  • Resize Pictures for Drop Zone?

I read a thread from about a year ago that brought up resizing images to get them to fit in a drop zone correctly. I just started using idvd and just ran into this problem, and it truly annoys me that Apple wouldn't allow resizing and image within idvd to get it to fit, or drag what part of the image shows in the drop zone...
Anyone have a solution, or is this still a "pay to get it" type of thing with pro tools...

So what you really need is to reposition the image within the drop zone (as opposed to resizing) .... is this correct?
If so, have you already tried holding down the control key as you click and drag the image to the desired position?
