Movie doesn't show - flickers of desktop instead

I'm trying to watch a .mov file and when it starts to play I see strange images that look like my desktop in the player screen instead of the video. The Audio appears to work but is clipping some here and there and sounds like an echo. Tried fast forwarding, even a software update did have any effect.

Was able to watch the .mov file using Nero. Very strange that Quicktime will not work. Desktop background that shows is very low res

My external HD stopped showing up on my desktop, but shows up in my Disk Utility..
I have tried a disk verify and repair - sometimes that works and completes, sometimes it doesn't.
Either way, it wont eject or mount, and still doesn't show up on desktop.
There are no ticking noises coming from the hard drive, and it lights up still, and i have tried replacing the cords, and restarting/shutting down the computer, and have tried it on a mac desktop also - same problem.
    Any help would be great!!!

and have tried it on a mac desktop also - same problem.
Try this on one of the Macs ...
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Finder > Preferrences
Select the General tab then select:  Show External Disks

iTunes 11 picked up on my entire extensive movie, tv show and music collection flawlessly, but importing a new movie into iTunes 11, it shows up in the list view, in the get info window the assigned artwork shows up, but the movie doesn't show up in the non-list (with artwork) view.
The media collection is on an external drive. And on my older Snow Leopard machine, the newly imported movie also shows up (with artwork) as it should.
Just not in iTunes 11 non-list )main movie) view.
    Any ideas on this?
    Cheers!

Wait - I meant to say that on the older machine the newly imported move shows up correctly using Front Row, not in iTunes.
Besides, i just noticed that my my hardware profile is not up to date - I am referring to an iMac running MountainLion 10.8.2

  • Pico 16GB Thumb Drive Doesn't Show Up on Desktop

I was uploading video files to my 16GB Pico thumb drive and then it just stopped, and now it doesn't show up on my desktop.  When I look it up in Disk Utility it shows up, but it wont let me erase or restore it.  What do I do to fix this?

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.

My movie shows up on itunes on my computer. I can play it and send it to view on Apple TV but it doesn't show up on Apple TV's menu and all the other movies on my iTunes do. Any thoughts? (I have checked different lists on Apple tv).

Do you have an iCloud account?  Sometimes they end up there.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Redownloading of movies is only available in the US at this time, even then not all movie studios are allowing their content to be redownloaded.

    help

By default you can only add M4V, MP4 and MOV files to iTunes. Simply drag and drop them into your library. If you have videos in other file formats (like AVI or MKV) you have to convert them one by one with a tool like HandBrake.
On Mac there are dedicated tools that will import videos for you, even without reconverting them. Additionally they will download artwork, put them in the Movies or TV Show category, etc. But I don't know if such tools exist for windows.

  • My External Hard Drive and Pen Drives doesn't show up in desktop but shows in finder.

Hi, I've been wondering why my Pen Drives and Hard Drives won't show up in desktop when I plug it in.
Its showing up in finder but I cant seem to solve this problem. help!

    No problem.
    (1) Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.  If your dock is on the bottom of the screen, it is the icon on the far left.
    (2) Now, look at the menu called Finder at the top left of your screen and find "Preferences there". Or, you can just press command-,  (command-comma).
    (3) Anyway, once the Preference window opens select the category "General" from the choices there.  You will see a list of things which you can choose to have displayed on the Desktop.  Make your selections and close the window.

  • Flash drive doesn't show up on desktop?

I have a f;lash drive that I've used for a long time to carry data between my home computer and my work computer.  Suddenly it isn't showing up on the desktop of my MacBook Pro running the latest version of Yosemite.  It does appear under devices in a finder window, but not on the desktop.  I have restarted my computer, not just let it wake up from sleep, but that doesn't change anything.  Any suggestions for how to get it to re-appear?
    Thanks!

  • IPod connects and charges, but now doesn't show up on desktop or in iTunes

I've seen numerous threads/topics about iPods not connecting/showing up...and most say to reset, but if i can't even get it to show up in iTunes in order to reset how do I go about this?? Also, if I reset, am I losing all my music/worked saved on it??
I plug it in and it flashes like normal when its connected on the iPod screen, but it doesnt show up on the desktop or pop up in iTunes.
    thanks in advance!

A reset is just rebooting the iPod. You will not lose anything and can be done without a computer...
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries.

  • Purchased Movie Doesn't Show As Purchased

Several years ago I purchased "Facing the Giants" and have enjoyed watching parts of it on occasion. I went to watch it today, and there's no indication that I ever purchased it. In iTunes I can see the few other movies I purchased under the quick link purchases dropdown, but this one is no where to be found (except in my playlist but then it says it can't find it when I try to play it). There isn't anything hidden on my iTunes.
I don't want to repurchase it.
    Thoughts?

If the film is no longer in your country's store, or if the rights-holder has removed it and replaced it with a new version, then you won't be able to redownload it. If it is the same version that's still in the store then check to see if you've hidden it from the Purchased section : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
You say that it shows in a playlist but doesn't play. If you still have the film listed in the Movies part of your iTunes library, then even if you don't have the actual file on your computer, iTunes won't let you redownload it as it will assume that you still have the film somewhere - you would need to delete it from Movies to be able to redownload it (assuming that the version that you bought is still in the store).

  • Leopard icon doesn't show up on desktop to install.

I've got the Family Pack to Leopard, and already installed it on my computer fine (iBook G4). Just tried installing it on my mom's (same computer, but Tiger OS) and when I install the disc, it makes a ticking sound...and never loads on the desktop. Won't even eject because it doesn't know anything is in there, so I have to restart the computer to eject.
What sounds like the problem? The disc isn't scratched up, so I doubt it's the disc.

Sounds like a bad optical drive. Be sure to visually inspect your DVD because those clicking noises are indicative of a head hitting the media which can scratch it or worse, render it useless.
It could also be the head resetting because it cannot read the DVD.
I would see if a movie DVD works in the drive as a test before putting your Leopard DVD back in.
I would also recommend you make a backup of the Leopard DVD, You will need a dual-layer burner and DL blank, of course.

  • FCP X 10.0.9  Import Window doesn't show folders on desktop

    Hello,
I have a number of folders on my desktop that contain movie files, jpeg files, you name it. When I try to import from the desktop, the import media window only shows the files and not the folders they are in! I have thousands of files on my desktop! For the life of me I can't figure this out. I have included a screen shot of what my window looks like when I select the desktop to import media. Again, I have a number of folders that don't show up, only the files in them. This is maddening when trying to import files! I know i can move the files to my hard drive but i am used to desktop work flow. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I've not heard of this problem before.
All I can suggest is to try trashing the preferences with this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.

  • IPod touch v2 doesn't show up on Desktop

All my other iPods show up on the Desktop when I connect them to my iMac. Is there something wrong with my iPod touch, or did I do something that I shouldn't have ?

That is intentional; unless you've used third-party software to enable that option, the iPod touch, iPhone, and Apple TV will not appear on the desktop and cannot be used for file storage.
