Movie download sites

I'm a newbie...
I want to start downloading movies and tv shows but I'm petrified about which sites to trust. I tried a site one time which I paid for, however this proved to be a link to Limewire!
I was told that to download movies to Apple I needed to have the DivX codec (which is now available for Mac). I've downloaded the 15 day free trial...
I'm wondering where other Apple users are going for downloading and if the DivX codec info I got is true (ie. should I buy the pack/bundle)?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Tiz,
Yes, it's disappointing, but there's a reason. You see, on OS X, there is no open DRM scheme for companies to use to protect online videos. Apple will not license FairPlay and Microsoft's Windows Media DRM (by far the most popular on the internet) is not supported by Flip4Mac.
There is hope - however. Microsoft's "Silverlight" platform will fully support OS X (at least at runtime; development will be Windows-only). Large companies like Blockbuster, Amazon, and NetFlix may use that platform to provide universal access to videos.
There are other DRM solutions for OS X, but none that are currently licensed by the large companies you're looking at. Those guys are, sadly, still very much centered on Windows.

  • Good Movie Downloading Site?

i need a reliable way to download entire movies, any suggestions?

well, there are many ilegal ways of doing that, but i wouldn't even suggest any of those (since they are illegal and i don't do them). You can just do a search on google for "full movie downloads", and you will find a site that will let you do that for either a monthly fee, or just a one time fee.

  • Ipad mini movies download site

Is there a site i can download movies for free directly to the ipad mini already formatted correctly.

Not websites. But there are some apps that allow you to download free movies to watch on the device. The movies will expire after a certain amount of time, but depending on the app, you can get the movies for quite some time and watch them over and over again if you like.
But these apps only work if you have a subscription to the service. I have the Xfinity Play App from Comcast. As a Comcast Cable TV subscriber, I can download movies to my iPad - without any additional charges - and then watch them at my leisure.

  • Free Movie Downloads

OF back with another question. Are there any "free movie download" sites that are legitimate? I have always been of the opinion that if "it sounds too good to be true, then it usually is".

Only you can determine if you meet the requirements. However, for example, the Perlinger Collection FAQ includes the following:
+Are there restrictions on the use of the Prelinger Films?+
+There are no restrictions. You are warmly encouraged to download, use and reproduce these films in whole or in part, in any medium or market throughout the world. You are also warmly encouraged to share, exchange, redistribute, transfer and copy these films, and especially encouraged to do so for free.+
+Any derivative works that you produce using these films are yours to perform, publish, reproduce, sell, or distribute in any way you wish without any limitations.+
+Descriptions, synopses, shotlists and other metadata provided by Prelinger Archives to this site are copyrighted jointly by Prelinger Archives and Getty Images. They may be quoted, excerpted or reproduced for educational, scholarly, nonprofit or archival purposes, but may not be reproduced for commercial purposes of any kind without permission.+
This discussion has gotten pretty far afield.
    Best of luck.

  • Issue playing movies downloaded from iTunes on TV when linked to computer via HDMI cable.

Recently I purchased the advance digital copy of "Star Trek Into Darkness" as it was it was released just in time for  moving some people into another state; we planned to watch it when we rested for the day.  After hooking my windows 7 laptop up to a Samsung flatscreen TV using an HDMI cable, iTunes refused to play the movie.  It would play when the computer was disconnected from the TV, and the same error would appear when reconnected.  The error stated that I had to be connected to an "HDCP compatible device."
Is this some way of iTunes forbidding me from watching movies downloaded from their service when connected to an exterior device?  My computer has no issues playing other content, such as netflix, when connected to a TV.
For me it's pointless to buy movies now from iTunes; I feel like I've wasted $20.  Why on earth would I want to sit in front of a computer to watch it when there's a TV five times the size available?

    Hello happylilvampyr,
Unfortunately, this is due to a lack of HDCP support provided by the TV in use. More information regarding HDCP can be found in the following article.
iTunes for Windows: Unable to view or play HD video content that requires HDCP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3354
As an alternative, you can always download the movie in standard definition, which will allow for viewing on non-HDCP devices.
When you purchase an HD video on a supported device or computer, only HD video will be downloaded. To download the SD version, you need to download the video again from your Purchased page. Conversely, if you purchase an HD video on an unsupported device, the SD version will be downloaded. Then, you will need to download the HD version from your Purchased page. • Where can i find a good download site for the iphone?

where can find a good download site for the iphone for games and videos?

There is only one - the iTunes App Store for apps/games with over 500,000 to choose from, and the iTunes Store for video - movies and tv shows.

  • Flash movie downloader?

Does anyone know a "DECENT" easy to use add on that will allow me to download movies from sites like youtube etc... so that I can add them to itunes/ipod/iphone/psp.....
    Either for safari or firefox.
I have tried one called "download helper" with firefox, but it did not work!

Downloading Flash video as is easy as finding the source file in the page code. Using Safari Activity you can just copy the .flv URL and paste it into the Downloads window to get a local copy of that .flv file on your computer.
But the iPhone (Pod and Tunes) apps can't play Flash Video so you'll need to convert them to QuickTime formats. http://perian.org and QuickTime Pro ($30) can handle that for you.

  • Spent some time trying to find a Safari download site with no success.  Where is the iMac Safari download site?

Spent some time trying to find a Safari download site with no success.  I found lots of Safari sites but no Safari download site.  Where is the iMac Safari download site?

(The following does not apply to users of Lion OS 10.7 or later)
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
(If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
Safari 4.1.3 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1422
Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4, Tiger 10.4.11 uses Safari 4.1.3, Leopard uses Safari 5.0.6,  and Snow Leopard uses Safari 5.1.x. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari  can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them, and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
    Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

  • ATV iTunes store movie downloads vanished

Having searched for related topics and come up empty, I am posting a new thread concerning iTunes store movies purchased directly to and lost from my ATV (disclaimer: in searching for related topics, almost all of my key words showed up results of "0", so I am suspicious that the support site is wonky ... I had to scan for related topics and tired of it before finding anything close). I have the iTunes receipts, so I am sure that I "purchased" the movies and did not "rent" by accident. Both movies have vanished from my ATV, without having been watched. They also do not appear on any of my other computers iTunes libraries. I did verify that they were purchased and were listed with a movie downloaded from my desktop computer to ATV, which is still present on my ATV. Just the two movies purchased through iTunes directly to my ATV are lost.
Having read Winston Churchill's post on ATV not being a back up device, I am wondering if the ATV has problems with retaining content. If it is not able to reliably store files, is it in fact just an expensive "chord" linking my computer to a tv? (Winston Churchill refers to the ATV as an "iTunes extender", not a stand alone device ... could have sworn my ATV is "standing alone").
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
ATV and computers running latest iTunes and ATV software.

    Hey Chris,
just wondering where you got this information from (how the iTunes movies are formatted/encoded)? is there an apple technical document that gives the specs for the iTunes movies? has Apple released this information? if so where (could you possibly include a link?), and if not, how do you know it? i'm encoding some of the DVDs that i own to put on my ipod using handbrake. Does this mean that if i set my handbrake average bitrate to 1500 kbps (and the format to MPEG-4) that i will be importing them at the same quality as the movies on iTunes? thanx very much!

  • ATV 3 movie downloads

We just bought the ATV 3. We don't have great hi-speed (about 5MBs) and I know the download will take time, however, shouldn't the ATV keep downloading the movie without having to sit on the download screen?  It seems that if we leave ATV the download stops.  As long as I'm in iTunes it'll download, but when I leave, the download stops and I have to resume the download.  I assumed that the ATV would download the movie in background, even if we were watching regular TV, as long as the ATV was connected to Wifi.  Is this not correct?

So.. just so I understand this... the ATV only downloads the movie to be played right away.  If you interrupt the download by, lets say switching your input to watch regular TV, it stops, even though it's still connected to WiFi, and when you turn it back on, it has to start the download over from where it left off.
I had thought that the movie downloaded to the ATV and was ready to watch at any time. We had started the download last night and it was 'ready to watch' - and we watched it for about an hour and then it stopped. We had caught up to the download.  I left it on and we went to bed. I thought that we could resume the movie this evening because it would have finished the download - but no, it resumed the download from where we had left off.
So.. since we're on a slower than normal hi-speed, we should rent the movies on the computer and then stream them via home sharing.  Does that sound reasonable?

  • Installing a local testing server - download sites

This is my second attempt at setting up a local testing environment. The first time it seemed to go OK, there were just some steps I had to take that just didn't seem right though, which made me wonder if I had the correct installation files, correct set up, etc. At that time I had downloaded and installed the WAMP package.
So, I'm fairly confident it's WAMP that I need. I just want to make sure I have the correct install files.  Could someone point me to the actual download sites for these things - there are so many options available with an internet search, I can never be sure if I'm getting the latest versions. Would someone mind posting the main sites for the following?
    1. Apache
    2. WAMP
    3. MySQL
    4. PHP
I'm also wanting these sites to ensure I'm getting accurate info for set up and usage, and not some half-baked you tube tutorial video or blog posts.
    Thank you community!!

I use Xampp and it doesn't seem to have the Skype issues and it makes setting up your local test environment about as easy as it can be.  Just install it and go. Then make sure you locate any of your local sites in the "htdocs" folder and you are ready to go.  You can also tweak things to use a different folder for your web root, but I'm usually happy to just leave it as is.

I have like five GB's of ghost data (data the device claims is not there but it is still taking up space) on my I pad 2 from a failed movie download attempt. How do I fix that with out resting my iPad? I have only 1GB left of storage
The movie had gotten to the point that I could watch it all the way through but it still said processing and got stuck at that point and when I turned off the wifi to try to restart it, it deleted its-self but did not free up any of the storage It was taking up
Restarting my iPad does not help
Some thing similar also happened to my old laptop when trying to download the iOS 5 update to my laptop when it came out. It kept getting disconnected and every time it would try to start over and act like what had already been downloaded was not there though it was still taking up the storage space.
And it continued repeating until it took up all of my storage space. The data file would not show up anywhere so I had to restore my laptop to the factory settings and that worked for awhile but I eventually had to get a new laptop.

Did you try to set it up as new device, as explained in this article?

If this does not work, use iTunes to set it back to factory settings, which would also install the latest software:

When I try to enter codes for digital movie downloads it tells me "code redemption is temporarily unavailable. Try again later." Customer support has been no help. Anyone else have this problem?
Am sick of going back and forth with what has turned out to be worthless customer support. Have sent them so much info and pictures, no help. All they do is send me links for instructions on how to redeem the codes. I know how to redeem, I have redeemed at least 50 codes. To them I am obviously an idiot though. To me it seems to be a problem on their end, but can't get an answer from them on why it is telling me code redemption is unavailable. Please help! Anybody!

Confirming my suspicions with every passing hour. Support on this forum is non-existent like the support from Apple support. But, you got my money now... why would you care?
