Movie Download Slow

Check with the CNET speed check and I'm operating at 1.5M download. The system has been downloading OLD DOGS for the last 24 hours and is only a seventh of the way done. In parallel I downloaded to 1G movie rentals in 10 minutes each.
Why HD - OLD DOGS taking so long

It's taking so long because Apple's servers aren't giving up the data to you any faster than that.
I've gone around and around with Apple over this same issue, which doesn't seem to be limited to iTunes Store only, as it has disrupted a couple of updates of my iPod software as well. No luck in trying to deprive them of any excuse to try and blame it on the customer, though. They are too well practiced at that art.
Consequently, I've sworn off of purchasing any more iTunes downloads, or any new Apple product which depends on software updates from Apple, which effectively means their entire product line. At least until they fix their system.

  • Very SLOW movie downloads from iTunes Store

I posted this in a different thread, but saw it was already answered. Thought I would post a new thread.
Downloaded and installed 9.0.1. Still having EXTREMELY SLOW download speeds on any movie downloads. I am downloading "Troy" and at this time it will take 18,000 hours to download. Something definitely is not right.
Songs download at their normal speeds. Movies take literally forever.
So 9.0.1 did not correct the problem.

I usually test around 5 as well, but sure enough I noticed a HUGE slowdown in my internet speed after an evening of downloading rentals last week. The slow speed (less than 1.5!) continued on after that and it took a tech support call to my ISP to get it "fixed".
My guess - Qwest is "throttling" video-intensive internet use. Torrent or not.
I believe Qwest automatically throttles any encrypted downloads but I don't know if AppleTV downloads are encrypted?
My speed is back up around 5 again, and I will keep a close eye on it next time I rent.

  • HT1657 I rented a movie, it was downloading slow , I left it (it was indicating a 2 hour time for the loading) .

So when I next look for the movie I rented , there was no sign if it in the movie download section.
I looked in "Account" section and saw where it existed under "recent" . So , I don't see where I can watch it. I am at this time using my pc laptop, Itunes .....Terry Stright

  • HT1551 Slow movie download

Usually a movie download is ready to play in 5 minutes.  Twice now, it has taken more than 2 hours.  What's going on?  What can I do?

We have had the same problem recently.  Usually we download quickly, including movies from iTunes.  Today, our SD movie is taking forever to download from iTunes onto an iPad 2.  Wireless network is n speed.  A speed test run on a macbook at the same time shows a blistering 34 Mbps for downloads, so we can't blame the ISP.

  • Apple TV, HD movie downloads extremely slow.

It is taking upwards of 30 minutes to get an HD movie downloaded to my Apple TV before I can start t he movie. I am using AT&T U-verse Gateway with 16 megabit capability. I am averaging about 10megabit download speed on iMac and other MacBooks in the house.
Several factors that just don't add up:
I have five bars on the Apple TV wireless signal strength.
I have no delays or interruptions when streaming Internet Radio from Apple TV.
I have no delays or interruptions when streaming movies trailers from Apple TV.
I have no delays or interruptions when streaming YouTube from Apple TV.
I have very few delays or interruptions when streaming music from the iMac to Apple TV.
I have no delays or interruptions when streaming movies from Netflix on the Nintendo Wii.
    I have recycled the AT&T U-verse wireless(802.11g) modem/router.
I have changed the wireless channel on the router to 9.
I have recycled the Apple TV numerous times.
I'm not sure how everything else downloads or streams without issue on the same wireless network, and sometimes same Apple TV, with the exception of iTunes HD movie rentals.

I have the same experience with my ATV1. The obvious factor is the server that is delivering the HD media to the device.

  • How to remove remnants of a failed iTunes movie download?

Hi, please let me summarize my recent experience with an iTunes movie rental. At this point, I mainly want to know how to regain the space on my iPad. The whole disgrace of why the download was slow, why iTunes on my mac did not know about the rental initiated on my iPad (so I had to buy it again), or the fact that after the failed download iOS seems to have left a huge blob on my iPad "forever" stands here to flag this issue for fellow users and Apple.
Let's start with the issue that would help me solve the situation as things stand now: Now I have the movie downloaded to my mac's iTunes, finally, but now I cannot sync it to the iPad, as the latter has no free space --- as the failed download of the movie there left there a large "file", which I cannot remove. The file is not seen by the iPad's iTunes Store or Movies apps (there I deleted what I could), I closed both apps specifically, I restarted and synced the iPad multiple times, but the free space is not recovered.
The background is that our Friday movie night ended up being a 4-hour ordeal attempting to have a fraction of the movie downloaded to start watching, and even worse, the download did not finish (or even continue!) while we started watching, but failed, and failed miserably, losing me even more time now. I started renting the movie one more time, then on my mac, hoping that the download will be faster there, but it wasn't, and now that I have the movie, I still cannot play it on my $500 "resolutionary display"...
Not even to mention that iTunes on my mac did not know about my rental on the iPad. So instead of the promised "seamless" continuiation of the movie on the MacBook (which I hoped will have a[n even] better connection to the iTunes Store, partly because of its better antenna --- it did not), I had to pay up again, restart the download, and still see it only trickling down.
The whole problem started with the download speed being unacceptable. I checked my downstream bandwidth, which was 16 MB/s. Then offering me to download the movie in 5 hours or so is more than disappointing.
Funnily enough, in the end now my mac's iTunes realized that there were a purchase on my iPad, and restarted the "original" download. So now I have two 4.5 GB copies of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy on my mac! What a waste of space and bandwidth. But of course, iTunes keep track of me having started "watching" one of them, so that will soon expire. Pfff.
What a disgrace this is. Google Play, Amazon Instant, Netflix must be gleaming. I only tried iTunes for the 1080p experience on my expensive new iPad.

And there was more. I had to re-rent the movie on Google Play and finish it there, because the iPad won't play its downloaded fragment, nor did my mac's iTunes, which already downloaded two copies of "Happy" and three copies of the twice-rented Tinker, Tailor..., would show ANY of that under Rentals nor allow copying ANY to the iPad during syncing (though the movies at least showed up there, see the note three steps above this).
And iTunes would still start downloading another copy of both movies whenever it checks for "unfinished downloads". I think my HDD will be fully of copies of the same movies soon.
And the iPad still have a huge chunk of "Tinker, Tailor..." lingering on somewhere in the non-transparent file system...
At least the iTunes support guys ("Express" Lane after 24 hours, though over a weekend) were nice in their email, and I got my money back. Now I only need my time, sanity and storage space back.

  • 2.0.1 Movie Download Ready To Watch Time Longer?

Sorry if this thread already exists but I want to specifically focus on the 2.0.1 upgrade wrt this.
So last night I did the 2.0.1 upgrade and we rented a movie.
The download speed did not seem any slower as a rough guess it still took about a minute or two for 2% loaded. However where as with 2.0 sfw it would say "Movie Ready To Watch" after about 2% loaded, the 2.0.1 sfw waited much longer (roughly 20 minutes and 50% - rough figures) before it gave the ready message.
I realize Apple doesn't want users to start watching too early and cause a freeze but I had no freezing problems previously even when starting with 2% loaded with the 2.0 sfw.
Now I have to wait longer - a big step backward in my opinion.
I also tried to play prior to the ready message and it wouldn't allow it.
Do others see this same behavior?
(PS In order to prove it is the 2.0.1 update I should have rented a movie with 2.0 installed - but didn't want to risk losing it to the upgrade and waste $5).

I don't think the movie download experience in terms of time and when it is ready for watching is related to any of the software releases so far. I downloaded 3 HD and 1 SD movie after the upgrade to 2.0.1 and my movies were ready for watching in around 30-45sec. I let it download completely before starting to watch the movie though. My ATV is connected via G class wireless thru a Comcast cable modem where I get download speeds of 12mbps.

  • HT1577 Is there a way I can make my movies download faster in itunes?

Have closed all other applications and genius is off. Everything else downloads really fast but the movies are killing me - up to about 3 hours and counting. Then it's slow to put on my ipod. Have tried HD and SD, no difference whatsoever. Help!
I have previously downloaded a movie and put it on my ipod within about 30 mins but for the past month or two itunes movie downloads are REALLY slow. I've read other forums that say similar but no one has got a solution yet. I thought I'd put it out there again - does anyone know what it is?
I am using a brand new imac with tonnes of memory, broadband internet is obv the likely cause but EVERYTHING else is fast, only itunes movies are slow. Is there a setting that's been changed, perhaps in one of the software updates?
I'm a new mac user so go easy on the tech advise please, I'm still in windows mode...
    Cheers

    Hi emburg,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with the speed of your movie downloads.
It would be helpful to know what your download speed currently is.
The link below will provide a few troubleshooting steps that you can try improve the download speed:
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
...You can also try the following steps to troubleshoot the download issue.
    Restart your computer or device.
Check for updates for your Mac or PC and install any software updates. Also, check for and install updates for any security software you may have (anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall, and so on).
If using Wi-Fi for Internet access, try using a different Wi-Fi network when downloading. If you are connecting to a home network, try restarting your Wi-Fi router. Also, check for and install any firmware updates for your Wi-Fi router. (Refer the manufacturer's website for your router to get information on updating its firmware).
If you are on a computer, try using an ethernet cable for wired Internet access instead of using Wi-Fi.
    Resuming downloads from a computer
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
    Click the "Check Downloads" button.
Click the Resume or Resume All button, or the resume arrow  to resume the download.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • ATV 3 movie downloads

We just bought the ATV 3. We don't have great hi-speed (about 5MBs) and I know the download will take time, however, shouldn't the ATV keep downloading the movie without having to sit on the download screen?  It seems that if we leave ATV the download stops.  As long as I'm in iTunes it'll download, but when I leave, the download stops and I have to resume the download.  I assumed that the ATV would download the movie in background, even if we were watching regular TV, as long as the ATV was connected to Wifi.  Is this not correct?

So.. just so I understand this... the ATV only downloads the movie to be played right away.  If you interrupt the download by, lets say switching your input to watch regular TV, it stops, even though it's still connected to WiFi, and when you turn it back on, it has to start the download over from where it left off.
I had thought that the movie downloaded to the ATV and was ready to watch at any time. We had started the download last night and it was 'ready to watch' - and we watched it for about an hour and then it stopped. We had caught up to the download.  I left it on and we went to bed. I thought that we could resume the movie this evening because it would have finished the download - but no, it resumed the download from where we had left off.
So.. since we're on a slower than normal hi-speed, we should rent the movies on the computer and then stream them via home sharing.  Does that sound reasonable?

Restarting my iPad does not help
Some thing similar also happened to my old laptop when trying to download the iOS 5 update to my laptop when it came out. It kept getting disconnected and every time it would try to start over and act like what had already been downloaded was not there though it was still taking up the storage space.
And it continued repeating until it took up all of my storage space. The data file would not show up anywhere so I had to restore my laptop to the factory settings and that worked for awhile but I eventually had to get a new laptop.

Did you try to set it up as new device, as explained in this article?
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If this does not work, use iTunes to set it back to factory settings, which would also install the latest software:

When I try to enter codes for digital movie downloads it tells me "code redemption is temporarily unavailable. Try again later." Customer support has been no help. Anyone else have this problem?
Am sick of going back and forth with what has turned out to be worthless customer support. Have sent them so much info and pictures, no help. All they do is send me links for instructions on how to redeem the codes. I know how to redeem, I have redeemed at least 50 codes. To them I am obviously an idiot though. To me it seems to be a problem on their end, but can't get an answer from them on why it is telling me code redemption is unavailable. Please help! Anybody!

Confirming my suspicions with every passing hour. Support on this forum is non-existent like the support from Apple support. But, you got my money now... why would you care?

  • ITunes Movie Download keeps stopping at 1.64GB

    Hiya,
I recently bought the Avengers off iTunes [HD, trying 1080p] but everytime the download gets to around 1.64GB, the timer vanishes and the progress bar stops going up indefinatly, though it says it's still downloading.
The iTunes extra part of the download has installed and works perfectly (it was a seperate download). Occasionally when using the pause/resume all button to try and get the movie download to work the extra came up with a -50 error, but after another reset it downloaded fine. Another issue both have had is the timer starts saying thousnds of hours will be needed for the download after a pause/unpause. The movie is watchable upto about 41 minuets after/during every download
    Thing's i have tried:
-Deleting the "Downloads" folder in iTunes media
-Downloading to an external Hard Drive by changing the locatoin of my iTunes Media folder (where the download froze at about 400MB instead of 1.6GB)
-Deleting the film/download file and begging the download anew from "check for availabe downloads"
    -Restarting iTunes
-Restarting my computer (2011 13" Mac Book Pro Running Lion 10.7.5)
-Leaving the download to run over night, was still on 1.64GB in the morning.
    -Watching/Not Watching whilst downloading.
I might try downloading in SD/720p, but will i be able to download the 1080p version later on if i do so?
    Many thanks.

    Heya, thanks for replying
I eventually got in touch with iTunes support who could see I still had pending downloads and were quite happy to cancel them and give me a store credit refund. Their advice was to try another movie or leave it for a few weeks as the movie I wanted was under high demand, which may have led to the problems I had (Avengers + Christmas, fair enough really).
...so about 2 days later I tried it again along with the batman trilogy and everything downloaded just fine.
I always hate the idea of going to customer support but I have to say apple's has always been quick, reasonable and helpfull, so just go for it with a detailed explination and you should be fine
    Good luck!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's exactly what you need. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US
This is the only way to view a video on the TV. After connecting your MacBook Air to the TV, image on your TV should show immediately. Then, press Command and F1 keys to mirror your MacBook Air display, and open the video

  • Can I move downloads from one comeputer to another?

I have downloaded music at work on my work computer and at home on my other computer is there a way for me to get the ones I downloaded at work on my home computer?
I hope so. What happens if your computer crashes and you loose all of your iTunes Music?
    Thanks Everyone

    Hey Mr. King,
You certainly can move downloads between computers. Check this article for ways how:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93063
Do keep in mind, though, that you can only have a total of 5 computers authorized to play the music associated with your account at a time.
If your computer crashes, you may be out of luck, as I'm pretty certain you can only download music purchases once...I'd highly recommend backing up your purchased music files regularly. Here's an article that outlines how to keep yourself backed-up in case of a hardware failure:
