Movie Downloading Issues

I am currently trying to download a movie. I started it 12 hours ago and so far it's only at 509 KB out of 2.06 GB. It's telling me it has 55,000+ hours left. What can I do to make it download faster? I'm not even sure it's downloading it properly. I bought a movie just two days ago that downloaded in less than 5 minutes and that's what usually happens. Any advice helps!

I am having the same issue. I have a movie which I purchased and am trying to download and it keeps saying ready to play in---and that goes from 3 hr -6 hrs. What is going on? I thought I could watch immediately! The same thing happens with Netflix. I'm beginning to think this is a internet speed issue. Are we all trying to download at 8pm?

  • Digital Copy of movies download issues

I am finally trying to get the digital copies of the Blue rays I recently purchased onto my computer and ipod. Out of the six movies I've tried all but one have downloaded and show up in itunes but only show a grey screen with no audio when played. Any way to make this problem go away so I can enjoy my movies on the road?

You are not alone. I did exactly the same thing today. Namely, I decided to get the all the digital copies from the 6 BluRay disks I bought last month onto my Mac Mini. My Mini is 3 months old & working perfectly. I updated to OSX 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 last week. (And that may be the problem). Ran permissions fix, etc. I've downloaded many digital copies before without issue. Today I stopped at #2 because the movies had no video or sound even though the download produced viable m4v video files of 1.5 & 1.9 GB each. When I try to run the files on QuickTime7 I'm told that I'm not authorized on iTunes. But earlier digital downloads play fine on both. Of course, I had signed on to iTunes properly but I went ahead and de-& re- authorized myself. To no avail. I checked these discussions & discovered several complaints about this since the upgrade to 9.2. One guy even said he got a "kinda-sorta" admission from an Apple CSR that there MAY be a problem. OK..that happens. BUT why no alert on iTunes so we hold off for a few days? Did I just lose money using the ONE decrypt key I'm allowed per movie? I paid extra money for these "deluxe" Blu Ray editions just so I could I have a copy on my iPod & AppleTV. Will Apple or the studios unlock these movies I paid for? iTunes help was impossible to navigate so I complained to the 2 movie studios (Warner Bros & LionsGate) about this ripoff! Their customer support is easier to reach than Apple's. Can you believe that! I've been with Apple for 8 years but I feel really screwed by them today!
Could someone please send me the link to Apple customer service? I know Apple doesn't read these discussions. I want to cut & paste this to them.

  • Movie download issues with iTunes for iPad

I purchased a 3.5 GB movie and have 8 GB of free space.  The download starts throug iTunes, makes it about half way through the download and then starts over.  It's done this around 5 times now.  My OS is up to date.  Anyone experienced this problem and have any suggestions?  It even boots me out of the movie if I'm watching it while downloading before it starts over.

You may recall that from one of my posts.
Yes -and I do remember it pretty well actually. I was referring to you in my post above - without naming you.
You said in your post that he emailed you from his iPhone and I asked how you knew it was from the phone and you responded that the email contained the "Sent from My iPhone" in the signature.
How's that for remembering! Meanwhile, I can't remember what I had for dinner last night?
And back to the topic, I do have issues myself with Mac to iPad and iPad to Mac compatibility. I would hope that Apple is working on this. Really I don't understand why it hasn't been resolved by now but I continue to wait for the fix as well.

  • ITunes movie download issues

Bought "Prometheus" downloaded watched for a few minutes, then paused and updated to iOS 6.  Went to watch Prometheus again and it was nowhere to be found.  Tried to download again, but there was no space, deleted 3.8 GB worth of space to download and tried to download again.  Download began, pressed pause and resume, and it didn't start again.  Stopped it and deleted the download to try again, however there was no disks pace left.  Searched for Prometheus in the ipad search menu, click on it and page flashes back to ipad home screen.  Can anyone help?  Movie won't work, but is taking up disks pace, doesn't show up in videos but I can't delete anymore apps to try to download again, pretty frustrated.  Thanks!

This is a user to user forum not Apple support.
I've seen some odd behaviour in recent months - movies say they're downloading but are not or have slowed to a crawl.  I usually find restarting the unit and selecting it from the rented area kicks off the download again.
If you continue to have issues go to:

navigate to iTunes support and raise a support query.

  • Apple response to my movie download issue. A one time refund, Read the Terms of Sale, you buy the rental you own it works or not. I tried VUDU and it works great via my PS3. Thanks for everyone input.

    Hi Ernest,
Chris, here from the iTunes Store. I see that you rented the movie "Captain America: The First Avenger" from the iTunes Store and it will not play properly. When it comes to your money, I can certainly appreciate how important it is to feel that you are treated fairly, and I would be more than happy to help you out with this today.
I'm happy to report that I was able to make a one time exception for you, and have reversed the charge for "Captain America: The First Avenger," which I understand did not work for you. In five to seven business days, a credit of $3.99, plus any applicable sales tax, should be posted to your Visa.
Please keep in mind the refund will not process until payment has been received successfully by iTunes, which usually takes three to five business days from the date of your purchase. Once payment has been received, you will receive an invoice for your purchase and the refund will appear three to five business days after your invoice is sent.
It is highly recommended to monitor the order that a refund has been requested for, to ensure the purchase was processed successfully by your financial institution. If the payment or refund does not appear on your statement after the appropriate amount of time, please respond to the correspondence received and we will gladly investigate this matter further.
Please note that according to the iTunes Store Terms of Sale, all sales are final, so this is an exception which I cannot guarantee will be granted again in the future. The iTunes Store Terms of Sale are available for you to review here:
    Terms of Sale
    http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/sales.html
If you have any further questions or concerns regarding this issue, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, Ernest, and I hope you have a great day.
    Sincerely,
    Chris

Sorry your experience wasn't a plesant one, but most of the issues they work on are hardware in nature, not software.. I'm not taking up for Apple... I'd had my share of run-ins with them as well.
As for your iTunes issue... an EASY solution is to simply tell iTunes that the location you want your tunes stored in is your Public folder. Items in your public folder can be seen and opened by others, so your wife could easily access the files there.
For you, go to your Music folder, find the iTunes folder, and drag it to your public folder.
Next, go to iTuness>Preferences and click on the Advanced tab, then the General Tab, and the first window you see is the iTunes Music Folder Locataion. Click Change, then navigate to the iTunes folder in you Public folder.
Now, next time you purchase a song from the iTunes store, or import songs from a CD, they will be stored in the iTunes folder, in your public folder.
You wife does basically the same thing except she navigates to YOUR public folder, and the iTunes folder inside.
She will have to manually find and import any new songs you add but at least your entire library will be available for her to listen to.
There are other ways of getting the same thing done, but I think this is the easiest.

  • HD Movie Download Issues

Well, over the weekend I was trying to purchase an HD movie via iTunes. For some reason the option to download the HD version is grayed out and I can only get the SD version. I wanted to stream it to my AppleTV 2. It has a message there about not having Windows 7 with an HDCP compliant video card, but the point is that I want to watch it downstairs on the AppleTV. I don't care about playing it on my computer.
I did see that I can download the HD version on my iPad or iPhone, but who cares about watching HD on a screen that doesn't even support HD? It told me that I could download the HD version to the phone and then the SD version would be available for download on my PC.
Does that seem stupid to anyone else? Is there something I'm doing wrong? I don't want to buy it on my AppleTV, because then I can't get a copy to my computer.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Have you tried transferring the movie to iTunes on your computer and playing it there, to see if it's a problem with the movie file or with your iPad.

  • Movies download issues after changing iTunes store

After moving countries, I changed my iTunes store and payment info from US to Netherlands, that was fine. But when I tried to download the movies I purchased in the US iTunes store, I got the message that "this movie is not available in the Dutch store". Of course not, I purchased it while having the US iTunes store! I found all the movies also in the Dutch store, but Apple wants me to pay for them again, despite the fact I paid for them before under the US iTunes store - this is not making any sense at all, since I did not change my ID, just the country and the payment info - and at no point in the process was there a warning that you would loose all purchases made under the previous store. What am I missing here? Any ideas how to get back the movies I paid for? These are the movies I had on my iPad, by the way. Thanks!

If they are still stored on your iPad then you should be able to copy them over to your computer's iTunes library by connecting and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases.
I've never changed countries so I don't know what does/doesn't show (though it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't), but it is mentioned on this page : Change the country of your iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, and Mac App Store account. But ideally you'd be keeping and maintaining a backup copy of all of your downloads even if you don't change countries, a rights-holder could remove their item (film, music album, app etc) from the store at any time (and audiobooks and ringtones are one-time only downloads) - you are only guaranteed one download of any item.

  • I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes.  Before iOS 8, movies played fine.  After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive.  Anyone else have a similar issue?

I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes.  Before iOS 8, movies played fine.  After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive.  Anyone else have a similar issue?

I checked with SanDisk's own online support and they indicate that they have notified Apple of the issue.
According to SanDisk, the problem lies with Apple not having the iOS 8 version of the Safari browser having DRM decoding enabled that the Media Drive relies upon to decode and play iTunes DRM titles. Non DRM encoded videos will play in the browser.
DRM audio is not effected as this is handled by the native iOS music app.
As of the date of this post SanDisk have not been given a timeframe by Apple for this issue to be resolved.
I hope that Apple resolves this issue quickly as I have a large collection of DRM video titles on a 128Mb memory card installed in the Media Drive that I am unable to view.

  • Issue playing movies downloaded from iTunes on TV when linked to computer via HDMI cable.

Recently I purchased the advance digital copy of "Star Trek Into Darkness" as it was it was released just in time for  moving some people into another state; we planned to watch it when we rested for the day.  After hooking my windows 7 laptop up to a Samsung flatscreen TV using an HDMI cable, iTunes refused to play the movie.  It would play when the computer was disconnected from the TV, and the same error would appear when reconnected.  The error stated that I had to be connected to an "HDCP compatible device."
Is this some way of iTunes forbidding me from watching movies downloaded from their service when connected to an exterior device?  My computer has no issues playing other content, such as netflix, when connected to a TV.
For me it's pointless to buy movies now from iTunes; I feel like I've wasted $20.  Why on earth would I want to sit in front of a computer to watch it when there's a TV five times the size available?

    Hello happylilvampyr,
Unfortunately, this is due to a lack of HDCP support provided by the TV in use. More information regarding HDCP can be found in the following article.
iTunes for Windows: Unable to view or play HD video content that requires HDCP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3354
As an alternative, you can always download the movie in standard definition, which will allow for viewing on non-HDCP devices.
When you purchase an HD video on a supported device or computer, only HD video will be downloaded. To download the SD version, you need to download the video again from your Purchased page. Conversely, if you purchase an HD video on an unsupported device, the SD version will be downloaded. Then, you will need to download the HD version from your Purchased page. • HD Movie / TV episode download issue / problem / difficulty

The issue is that the download is extremely slow.
I purchased both the HD and the SD versions of Lost - "the Final Journey" - (2.56 GB and 1.11 GB respectively), as they are free.
The download was proceeding in parallel.
While the SD episode was downloaded in about 3 hours (370 MB per hour), the HD version was not moving at all (or almost). It did less than 10 MB in 3 hours (3.2 MB per hour).
I do not understand why the HD version which is 2.5 times larger, downloads at a pace of 100 time slower than standard definition version.
This experiment clearly shows that my connection is fine, and there is something different in the server that holds the HD version, or the way it is handled that makes the download so slow.
(the fact that they ran in parallel does not matter, because when the SD episode finished, the HD episode downloaded alone at the same slow pace).
I had a similar issue on a HD movie rental, but was not able to resolve it then,
and gave up. At the time, I did not have the SD version download in parallel.
    Thanks,
    Gideon.

I guess Apple does not care enough to answer their customers. Do not purchase any more videos from the Apple Store until these forums no longer contain these download issues, especially with no replies. Funny, I don't have these problems with my PC companies!, You know, Real computer companies!

  • ITunes Store Movie Rental Download Issues

Hey there. So I bought a rental movie from the iTunes store. It was downloading but I don't think it finished because my computer hibernated after a while. Since then I have been trying to resume the movie download but it won't resume or finish. It keeps saying (Error -50).
    What can I do?

you have 30 days to start watching it.
He probably means that it's too late in the evening to start the video, at least that was our problem.
The movie was Hi-def, lineout, but they almost always are and we've never had it take so long--it would have been faster for me to drive out to the local video store and pick up a DVD.

  • ITunes Movie Download keeps stopping at 1.64GB

    Hiya,
I recently bought the Avengers off iTunes [HD, trying 1080p] but everytime the download gets to around 1.64GB, the timer vanishes and the progress bar stops going up indefinatly, though it says it's still downloading.
The iTunes extra part of the download has installed and works perfectly (it was a seperate download). Occasionally when using the pause/resume all button to try and get the movie download to work the extra came up with a -50 error, but after another reset it downloaded fine. Another issue both have had is the timer starts saying thousnds of hours will be needed for the download after a pause/unpause. The movie is watchable upto about 41 minuets after/during every download
    Thing's i have tried:
-Deleting the "Downloads" folder in iTunes media
-Downloading to an external Hard Drive by changing the locatoin of my iTunes Media folder (where the download froze at about 400MB instead of 1.6GB)
-Deleting the film/download file and begging the download anew from "check for availabe downloads"
    -Restarting iTunes
-Restarting my computer (2011 13" Mac Book Pro Running Lion 10.7.5)
-Leaving the download to run over night, was still on 1.64GB in the morning.
    -Watching/Not Watching whilst downloading.
I might try downloading in SD/720p, but will i be able to download the 1080p version later on if i do so?
    Many thanks.

    Heya, thanks for replying
I eventually got in touch with iTunes support who could see I still had pending downloads and were quite happy to cancel them and give me a store credit refund. Their advice was to try another movie or leave it for a few weeks as the movie I wanted was under high demand, which may have led to the problems I had (Avengers + Christmas, fair enough really).
...so about 2 days later I tried it again along with the batman trilogy and everything downloaded just fine.
I always hate the idea of going to customer support but I have to say apple's has always been quick, reasonable and helpfull, so just go for it with a detailed explination and you should be fine
    Good luck!

How do I sync a movie downloaded to iTunes, but I get a message that says "Cannot sync movie to iPod because this computer is not authorized"?  How do I fix this?

And I assume you have already checked to see if your iTunes purchases are authorized by choosing Store -> Authorize This Computer?
Some have been able to resolve this issue by removing the downloaded purchase and redownloading it again at no cost via iCloud.  See this article for more information on redownloading past purchases.
