Movie File Stops Downloading

Maybe someone here can give me some pointers. I bought "The Incredibles" in HD from the iTunes store, but the HD file won't completely download. Most common occurrence: It loads up to about 780 MB, then jumps around a bit in downloaded size, then starts over from the beginning. Then it would stop again after about 780 MB with an 8008 error. Occasionally (not sure what triggers that), the download goes all the way (3.7 GB), then stops for some time, and breaks off with a 3259 error, or just restarts again with no error message.
I've already contacted support about that, and did about everything they suggested, or what I could find online. Among the things I've tried:
- Completely uninstalled and re-installed iTunes;
- Tried a different user account (which is about a vanilla as they come, with nothing running that does not come from Apple out of the box. Firewall turned off, too.);
- Tried it on different networks (my own home, and my work [university] network);
- Deleted the partial downloaded file (as recommended by support.apple.com for a 8008 error).
Nothing helps. Any advice?

Okay, I cleared my DNS cache (http://infosonic.wordpress.com/2008/02/16/os-x-flush-dns-cache/). That seem to be taking care of the 8008 error and the 780 MB thing. I have now downloaded the full 3.7 GB. But now the download seems to get stuck right at the end. After some waiting, iTunes reports a network timeout and a 3259 error.
Any hints what to do now?

    I have a weird question - is it possible to make an online video (.MOV file) "un-downloadable"?
    I work at a college and a professor wants to post some videos within the school's public site. But, because of his concern with copyright, he wants to make it so the videos are impossible to download to the viewers' local machines.
    Is there any type of setting or code that can be put within the .MOV file that would allow this to happen?

    Any browser viewed QuickTime file will be "cached" (stored on the viewing computer). This is how browser work (they keep a copy of every page element) to help speed up viewing.
    QuickTime 7 (Mac and PC version) even allows the user to set the size of this cache so movies can be viewed while "off line".
    True "streaming media" (served with special streaming server software) is not cached on the viewing machine so no local copy is made. Streaming Server (QTSS) is free software available from Apple.
    What your school probably really wants is a way to prevent "copies" of your files being used. This is nearly impossible as anyone that views the file could use screen capture software to get a copy. Even the true streaming version.
    I use Snapz Pro.
    You could use some type of "log on" Web page to help limit the audience.
    You could also use "skin track" movies which make screen capture a bit of a chore.

    My example will open in QuickTime Player. Even Pro users are prevented from saving or editing the file because it is protected by an AppleScript droplet "Save As Un-Editable" and modified for Tiger and QT 7.

    Make sure your iTunes and iOS is up to date, that may cause the movie not to download correctly. Also if there was an issue with your internet connection, it can corrupt the file.

  • DVD either plays wrong movie file, stops while playing, or won't play

    Hi, everyone. I'm pretty new to Macs, having got a MacBook a couple of months ago. I just made my first dvd using iDVD, and it played perfectly in preview, but it has all kinds of playback problems. In addition to my main feature, which I made in iMovie, I included a few .mov videos from my digital camera, created a slideshow using iDVD, and, for kicks, put a single image of my cat with a caption exported from Power Point (for Mac) to play before the title menu. (Ah, yes, the newbie likes to play with new toys!)
    Problem 1: I placed the newly burned disc in my mom's HP laptop to see if it would play, and we chose Real Player to play it. At first nothing would play, but we tried a couple of buttons, and then the dvd started. But, instead of the pic of my cat I expected, one of the .mov file began to play. It then went on to the title menu as it was supposed to. However, none of the buttons would respond to the mouse or the keyboard.
    Problem 2: Wondering why that was going on, we tried the Windows Media Player, QuickTime, the HP QuickPlay player, and a 4th player on her laptop I was unfamiliar with. None of them worked. I even tried ejecting and reinserting the disk each time, Finally, Real Player would not play the disk on a second try.
    Problem 3: I put the dvd in a dvd player hooked up to a t.v. The same incorrect .mov file played, followed by the title menu. I started the Main Feature (iDVD movie, 30 minutes long); it started, but then after a couple of minutes, the video just stopped. I hit play again, and the same wrong .mov file played again. Any time I went to the title menu and clicked to play any of the .mov files or the slideshow, the same single .mov file played.
    I am using some DVD+Rs 4x that my friend gave me (the videos are for her). They are the CompUSA brand, which she apparently uses all the time. I've never had a dvd burner before. I encoded for Professional Quality, chose Single level dvd, and used widescreen aspect ratio in NTSC mode. There are 46 minutes of content in the project, and the little arrow on the Capacity meter is just a little over the halfway mark, still well within the green. The content size is 2.43GB; I have 111.53 freespace.
    If anybody has any idea of what when wrong, I would appreciate it. I have double- and triple- checked everything I could think of, and read every help topic I could find, and I can't find anything that I did wrong.

    My suggestion is that you use the 'crawl before you walk' and 'walk before you run' approach.
    Don't try a 'kitchen sink' project before you have cut your teeth on a couple of simpler projects. If you don't want to waste a DVD, just create a disk image file (an option under FILE in iDVD) and play it with the Apple DVD Player application.
    The only sure way to test your DVD is with a set top DVD player hooked to a TV set. There are too many strange variables associated with the many Windows DVD playing applications.

    It sounds like you put the files in the wrong locations within iDVD. (Look at the MAP view for positioning.)

  • .mov files stop halfway on .mac homepage

    I'm having a problem playing a .mov file on my homepage. I made it in iPhoto6 as a slideshow, exported it to a .mov file. I tested it and it plays fine on my hard drive as well as my idisk. It stops half-way through, however, when I play it on my homepage using Safari. I have called my cable ISP and the modem is working fine. I have deleted the page and re-loaded it. It consistently stops at the same halfway mark. Can anyone help? I have some eager people waiting to see this. Thanks.

    I'm working on some MOV files in CS4 and they will randomly stop working; my image is lost.  Sometimes it does this when exporting as well; it will, to my suprise, pick clips and make them a blank screen.  Please help!

    I purchased a movie and my computer does not have enough memory to save HD version. it has taken 4 hours to download half of the movie. How do i switch to standard version?  Also, when it says it's ready to watch, it won't play. 

    I really wish the Apple team would fix this.  It's one of those nagging things that was overlooked, I would imagine, and no one but musicians that perform would notice.
    Anyway, my workaround is this.  I just put a really long silent space at the end of the song giving me time to stop it before it loops.

    For a while I've used this script but after upgrade and a new machine it stopped working.
    I have  Mac OS 10.8.5.
    This is what I have.

    I'd like to be able to create a new folder for each "group of files" (new folder 111111, new folder 222222) and move the appropriate files into each of them.
    The filenames are always built by 6 digits underscore and 2 digits. Can be whatever filetype. (123456_01.jpg)
    I have a script that used to work just fine but now it just creates one folder and then freezes.

    When I want to move a downloaded file into a folder in documents I move the file to the desktop and then to a folder in documents.
    There must be some way to do this directly but I cannot discover it.  I seem to be able to only open one session of Finder.
    It would also seem logical to be able to open more than one session in Finder.

    Click on the Finder icon in the Dock.  Use command-n to open two Finder windows.  Navigate to the Documents folder in one window and the Downloads folder in the other.  Drag and drop files from one to the other.
    There is also a copy and move functionality.  Select the file you want to move.  Press command-c.  Navigate to the desired destination.  Press command-v  to copy the file there, press option-command-v to move the file there.

    You should be able to drag and drop them into the folder you want them to go into. You may want to open up a secondary Finder window through File -> New Finder Window if that helps.

  • Safari stops playing mov files in Lion

    Having just upgraded to a new iMac i7 2gb graphics and 8gb of ram, I was very annoyed to find that what works fine on my old 2core iMac running snow Lepoard fails on lion.
    My current problem is .mov files stopping when embedded into a web page. After many hours to apple care and compleatly reinstalling lion 3 times! Would they actually check the web page and confirm it stopped for them using lion yet it was fine on snow Lepoard! At present they are checking the mov files and said they would return a email as to the problem.
    Has any one else had similar issues with .mov files and safari?

    Have you emptied the Safari cache? If emptying the Safari cache from the menu bar doesn't help...
    Go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari
    Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac.
    ~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
    For Lion:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • An mov file which play fine in quicktime on my mac mini will not play in quicktime on a windows 7 unit. Error 2048, quicktime does not understand this file. Any ideas as to why it works in mac version of quicktime and not windows version?

    The .mov file sis downloaded from my Sony camera. It is not altered and plays fine on the Mac mini using QuickTime. It will not play on a Windows 7 unit using the latest version of Quicktime. Why would that be? Why will one version of QuickTime work and another not work?

    Also make sure the file type is not of a DivX. That your camera supports. Which QT for Mac also supports, but the Windows version of QT does not support DivX, so you're not purchasing something for the Windows computer that is not needed?
