Movie files embedded in Powerpoint for Mac 2011 play audio, but only show black (no video).

I'm trying to embed a video in a presentation using Powerpoint for Mac 2011.  It successfully imports the video, but when I try to play the video in the slide it only plays the audio and black (no video).  I have tried .mov and .wmv files and neither works.  I have Flip4Mac on the machine which is a MacBook Pro 15", if that makes any difference.  The video in either format plays outside of the Powerpoint presentation and if I send the presentation to another MacBook Pro the video in the slide plays no problem.  Anyone have any ideas other than not using a Microsoft product on a Mac?

I suggest you post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products, as it's their software you're having issues with:

  • Keynote will not open in Powerpoint for Mac 2011

I followed all the instructions for saving the Keynote presentation for Powerpoint. But, when Powerpoint for Mac 2011 tries to open it, it will not open and gives me an error message indicating it needs repair; I click repair, it says there is something missing. Help!!!

There have been many postings on this problem recently. It seems that opening the exported PP in 2004 and saving it will then allow it to open in PP 2011. If you don't have an older version of PP, try to download OpenOffice or some other free office program, open the exported PP in there and then try in PP 2011.

  • WMV Files Not Playing In Powerpoint For Mac 2011 (Lion OS)?

    Hi guys!
I recently upgraded to Lion (and I think I like it) BUT I have been putting together a Power Point presentation for work (I'm a University Lecturer) and trying to embed some movies with no luck... I insert the files and go to play them, but all I get is audio. I have tried MOV, AVI, WMV, MP4, etc, etc... no joy. I have tried Flip 4 Mac, QuickTime and VLC... no joy. When I play the embedded file, no video, just audio!
Before I upgraded to Lion, it was esy... convert the clips, inset into PowerPoint, and away I go!

  • Can't open .ppt files in MS Powerpoint for Mac

I recently upgarded to OSX Maveriks 10.9.1 and now have Mail 7.1.
I am receiving .ppt files as email attachments and I want them to open in Micorsoft Powerpoint by default (I have Office for Mac installed). Currently it opens in Keynote and I don't want that to happen. Before I installed Mavericks i was able to do this and opened .ppt files in Keynote only if I wanted to.
Hope I have articulated the problem well and loo fwd to solutions.
    Thanks
    Rach

    Hey Rach0k,
Thanks for the question. You can configure which application will open .ppt documents by following these steps:
OS X Mavericks: Choose an app to open a document
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14279
    Permanently change the document’s app
    1. Select the document, then choose File > Get Info.
    2. In the Info window, click the triangle next to “Open with” to expand the section.
    3. Choose an app from the pop-up menu, or choose Other to locate a different app on your Mac. To download and install a new app, choose App Store.
    4. If you want to use that app to open all documents of the same type as the current document and created by the same app, click Change All.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • MOV files from Friend's Apple MAC doesnt play on my PC in Quicktime or AVL

Hi there, A very good friend of mine sent me a dvd of some recent video of his new baby girl in mov format. I tried to play this on quicktime but with no luck and also had issue playing it the the AVL player ( I think thats what that called it)...apparently it will always play mov files, but not this one....I also tried converting the file but no luck either....please can you help me.
    Thanks

Thanks thats a great start, see below:
The following appeared if that helps:
Format: Apple Intermediate Codec, 1888 x 1062, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (LR), 48.000 kHz.
Hopefully this means more to you than it does to me. Do I need to buy the QT full version in order for it to work as well ? I assume if I wanted to burn it to DVD I wouldnt have any other option.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Problems with editing Powerpoint for Mac in Office 2011

    First time posting,
I seem to have delayed functionality in editing slides.  e.g. inserting shapes/text boxes/table etc, can be viewed, but on next slide I try the same and it is not visible, but may appear 5 minutes later when editing.  Also can not see some detail on preview, but they will then print out.  Incidentally when I send a file I have been working on to a PC, I can then see the various inserts I have made with no issue.
I have Mac OSX version 10.7.5
    3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo; 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
and Microsfot powerpoint for Mac 2011, version 14.4.5

As Office is not an Apple product, I strongly recommend asking in the Microsoft Office:Mac forums here:
    Office for Mac
Everyone there is a Mac user AND an Office user, something you can't say about Apple's forums. You will get the fastest help there and I think you will find the contributors more than helpful.

  • Office for Mac 2011 - can't open old files

I am currently on Mac OS X v10.6.8.  I recently installed Office for Mac 2011.  I cannot open some of my old files.  I think the ones that use the old file names, e.g. .doc and .xls, rather than .docx and .xlsx.
Can anyone explain how I can open these files in my Office for Mac 2011?
    Many thanks!

The free LibreOffice will open them, and it's the most cross platform office program (Linux, OS X and Windows versions)

  • Outlook for Mac 2011

I just migrated one macbook Pro to another both using OS X 10.8.5.   When I try to open Outlook I get an error message that says "This identity cannot be opened with this version of Outlook".
It worked and still works fine in the original machine and Word & Excel work fine in the new machine, but not outlook.   I tried removing Outlook for Mac 2011 and reinstalling but I get the same error message.
    Any ideas out there?

Or better yet, start using mac mail. I went back and forth between the two for year, and without getting into specifics or details I went back to mac mail and never looked back. Simple and does everything it supposed. Mac version outlook got stripped of a lot of functionalities that the pc version includes. With rare fixes, updates, and frequent problems between lost mail, corrupt identity files and mail which hangs up during the sent process just shows you that they half as*ed the mac version of outlook. Save your frustration and switch.

  • Imac is 4 months old.  Using installed Outlook for Mac 2011 but now want to use ical so that I can start to use iCloud to sync with my Ipad2 and iPhone.  How do I move my calendar from outlook to ical on the iMac?

This is my first attempt at using this forum so please be patient with me.  I am new to the apple world.  Bought an Imac desktop computer back in October and installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 because I was used to Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and outlook.  Now I am being told that I should be using ical for my calendar so that I will be better able to move to icloud for use between my Imac, Ipad2, and Iphone.
The question is:  how do I move my calendar which is in "Outlook for Mac 2011" into ical on my Mac?  Do I have to remove the Outlook entries from the computer and reinstall them back to the same machine or can I somehow move calendar entries within the machine?  I appreciate any help I can get.  Thanks.

I also already deleted my phone number from iMessage on my MBP.

Thanks for your contribution on this thread.

The forum for Office on mac is a different forum called Microsoft Community forum. Currently, I am not able to move the thread to that forum.

  • Additional file size is added to my PDF when attaching it to an email in Outlook for Mac 2011

I'm generating PDFs from Adobe Pro X. I have a 7.23MB PDF file that becomes a 9.8MB PDF file when attached to an email.
I'm trying to keep the file size as small as I can - why is the extra size added to the PDF?
I'm on an IMac, using Outlook for Mac 2011 and Adobe Acrobat Pro X/Indesign CC to generate the PDFs.  This isn't an isolated issue, it happens when I attached word documents as well and is extremely annoying!
Looking forward to hearing from anyone out there (desperately!)
