Movie Files showing 0:00

I recently exported my movie files (.avi) to an external storage disk.
I then deleted them from my computer and now I've tried importing them again and they are all showing the poster frame but they are 0:00
Is there a way to restore them?
Please help

It's a Kingston 4GB memory stick
they are in the same formats as they were when I backed them up (.mov and .avi)
I tried dragging to the desktop and it says the files are each in between 40 and 150 Kb.
It won't play them it just shows the start frame and says they are 0:00
Have I lost them completely?

  • Why don't my imported movie files show in iMovie?

I have a frustrating problem, and I don't know what to do. Sometimes when I import a movie file (usually a dv file) into iMovie, it doesn't show up. If I go to my finder, however, and look in the coresponding event folder, it's there. I can even open it in Quicktime and watch it no problem. It just doesn't show in iMovie when I have iMovie open, therefore I have no way of editing it. Sometimes if I try and import it again, it'll work fine, and sometimes it will only show a portion of the video in my iMovie, while the entire video is seemingly intact in the finder. I have plenty of room on my hard drive for the video. It does this with mov files too sometimes. Is there just a roblem with my iMovie?

This has been driving me barmy as well. I am on early 2011 MacBook Pro unibody, Lion OSX10.7.4. Clicking 'import' and navigating to the movie file just would not work. Why oh why? Your answers about showing 'all clips' in the event window or iMovie marking them as rejected were not relevant. Also these are movie clips I have put on my hard disk from my phone, they have not come through iPhoto.
Despair. No forums hold the answer. Until I remembered a Microsoft glitch in Lion that I just found out yesterday. (Does anybody else think that Lion is actually all downsides from 10.6.8? I haven't yet found a single thing that makes it better, and loads of things that make it worse. And I waited a year to 'upgrade'). Exel files with a '/' in the filename give you this infuriating message saying they are in use by another user. Er... doh, no other users are connected, no one else even knows these files exist, never mind uses them at the same time. Magic: Delete the '/' from the filename, and hey presto all is fine.
EXACT SAME THiNG with iMovie files. I took the '/' out of the filename and import now works fine. There you are. Yet another bit of Lion poop.

  • Why is an mov file showing up as a black screen with only audio?

I am importing a mov file into elements 11 and it is only showing up as a black screen with audio.  The clip will play in other programs on my computer but is not importing into elements 11.  The file was created on my panisonic camera.  I am pretty new to video editting and am quite frusterated.  I'm assuming it is some sort of codec issue but don't know how to proceed.  Thanks for any help.

  • MOV file shows no video in latest QT on Windows

What's wrong with a .mov file if I have audio but no video? I'm running QT 7.7.1 on Windows.

Thanks for the reply. Here's exactly what it says:
    Format: HDV 1080p30, 1092 x 614, Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo,
    48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS: 29.97
    Playing FPS: 29.97
    Data Size: -196682692 bytes
    Data Rate: 26.55 mbits/sec
    Normal Size: 1920 x 1080 pixels
    Current Size: 1092 x 614 pixels
Should I get something like xvid?

  • DNx HD .mov files show video levels incorrectly.

System Mac OSX 10.8.5  Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 release
I have a show that was delivered to me as DNx HD 220x.  This is a show that has passed incoming and outgoing vendor QC.  SMPTE Bars are present in the header of the file.  When imported into Premiere the video levels are being interpreted incorrectly.   Blacks are at 32, whites at around 200 (in RGB measurement) or black at 9 ire and white at 92 ire.
When the same files are AMAed into Avid MC 7.0.3, levels are correct.  When viewed on external scopes via AJA Control Room, levels are correct.
As I understand it, Premiere is not color managed at this point.  Any way to get Premiere to display this file with correct levels?
    Thanks,
    Jef

Not a direct answer but when I export DNxHD in a mov. wrapper I have to select RGB ( I think that is right, I'm not at my editor at the moment) in the codec settings to get it to look right in a Venice server. The default settings, the levels are too high but it looks ok when reimported into Premiere.

  • How do I setup iTunes on a Windows computer to use movie files on a TC?

I have succeeded in mapping my TC’s hard drive to my desktop Windows (XP Professional) computer. I have also changed the iTunes Music folder location on that computer to the folder on the TC’s hard drive that contains my MP4 movie files.
My problem is that I don’t know how to make my movie files show up in iTunes. I assume, but don’t know that, because my iTunes Music folder is now designated as being on the TC, whatever I do will not use a lot of hard drive space on the XP desktop. Nevertheless, I need to know before I try it because my movie files are exponentially larger than the available disk space on the XP. In short, what do I do to get the movie files that reside on the TC to show up in iTunes without taking up a bunch of the XP’s disk space? Any help will be appreciated.

Smokerz – Thanks for the feedback. I managed to get iTunes to find the movie files on my TC by simply dragging the icons of the files on the TC into the Movies folder in iTunes. This immediately made them available for streaming on my Apple TV. Also, I learned with great relief that, despite their large size, dragging icons of my movie files into iTunes did not copy them to the C: drive on my desktop computer. Thus, it looks as if the job is pretty much done. Thanks again for your advice.

  • No thumbnails for some .mov files Bridge CS5

I'm using Bridge CS5 to organise some video which has been digitised from a sony camera in File Maker Pro X. My operating system is Mac OS X. I have Quicktime player 10.1 and have just checked for updates.
Some of my .mov files show thumbnails which can be watched in Bridge. Other folders just show the thumbnails as black rectangles - these can be watched in a pop up window but not directly in the Bridge preview panel.
The files were all digitised in the same way and recorded on the same camera so should be the same format.
After looking at discussions on here I have tried updating QuickTime and clearing the cache but no dice.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Claire

That is odd that if it was recorded on same camera they are different.  I do know that the thumbnail is a complex issue.  A little foggy on this as it has been awhile, but if you get a black thumb it is the way the marker of the first frame is recorded.  In some cases this shows a black frame.  Hope this gives you some clue to do a web search for the real answer.

  • Why can't I import my ppt.mov file into iMovie?

I created a ppt movie, added music and now have a file that I want to import into iMovie. When I hit the browse button, my ppt.mov file shows up but it's light and I can't select it.

You can export from powerpoint as a MOV file. You must take care that Powerpoint does not add any extra tracks like a manual advance track. This would cause iMovie to not be able to edit it. There are several parameters you can change in the "Options" when exporting as a movie from PPT, but it is not obvious to me which of these might introduce the offending track.
The most straightforward way (or most likely to succeed) is to export from Powerpoint as photos. You can select it to Save as Photos as a series of JPEG images. These jpegs can then be imported into iPhoto for easy import into iMovie. You can add the music in iMovie as well.
I guess the question is, what are you adding in iMOvie? That might help us give better advice.
Also, if you use the iWork App "KeyNote", it gives you the option of exporting to QuickTime without a manual advance track.) Keynote can import PPT. If you do a lot of this, Keynote might be worth the money. Else, just import the photos.

  • Older .mov files have no previews

Trying to see if ANYONE else has seen this problem:
I was digging through my media archive disk and noticed something very odd: maybe three quarters of my older .mov files show only a generic icon in the finder, and trying to use the Quick Look (or preview) feature will only play the SOUND from the file.  When played within QT 7.6.6 Pro, the files are still intact.  Is this a harbinger of the problems people have been complaining about with QT 7.7?
Add: attempting to re-save the files (to see if the format has changed between versions of QT) netted the same set of features, so it would appear that the difficulty may be with Finder, not QT.  As NOT ALL files are affected, I'm not sure what's going on.  Looking at the ages of the files, there's no hard and fast correlation between what the file was created (or last modified) and whether or not it displays correctly in Finder.  Worse, these clips all came from the same rip of the same DVD originally.  I have no clue what's going on, but it's making it difficult for me to separate out video clip from sound clip files in my working directories.
Ah!  That may be it.  The files that are displaying without video in finder may have last been worked on in QT using the Export as AIFF command.  But that shouldn't have affected the parent file.  Pretty glaring mistake if that's it.

Same problem here.  But I'm using QuickTime X and Lion.  Didn't notice anything until I upgraded to 10.7.1.   I was thinking it was related to that, but I guess not if you're having the same issue on 10.6.8.

  • No Thumbnail for MOV Files

    Hello there
was looking through the forum here, no result...at least I found no solutions to my problem...
I just tried Bridge today as a new way to get all my video Clip Files into a thumbnail view and make my live easier.. but... every Movie file shows just the generic .mov File thumbnail. I am using Mac OS X 10.7.4 and Adobe Bridge CC .. Quicktime 10 and the older Quicktime Player Version 7.6.6 is installed
How can i get Bridge to show the thumbnails?? This would be a total show stopper..

ok, i was purging the cache in the Preferences Folder. it rebuilt, but it looks the same as before.
Now, if i wa susing strange Codecs i could understand.. but.. those are Animation, Photo-JPEG , H264 and all different kind of files. But not any of them show up. I was also checking the Files size limit, and set it to 20GB - 20000MB.
I also uninstalled Perian - thought maybe thats trobeling somwhow.. but.. no chance... very strange.I would think thats one of the basic functionality of Bridge...

  • Slideshow and video (.mov) files

When I import photos (.JPG) and movies (.MOV) from my camera to the ipad, they appear as an 'ALBUM' and I can run a slideshow on the ipad that will show both photos and movies in the sequence that they were taken. However, when I import the same photos and movies onto my pc, and then sync the ipad with the pc, the movie files show as 'unable to be synced'
The same photos and movies still show as 'ALBUMS' and are duplicated on the ipad under both 'PHOTOS' and 'ALBUMS'.
I can run a slideshow under PHOTOS that will include the 'imported' movies.
Does anyone know why the sync rejects these movie files - the ipad is happy to accept them from the camera?

Unfortunately, if you don't have (or want to use) the CCK, you may run into problems with a lot more cameras. In most cases, this is caused by the so-called “H.264 level”. While CCK does import videos with, theoretically, incompatible levels (that is, over 4.1), iTunes in no way synchronizes the same videos without your manually decreasing the level first. Most Canon cameras that record 1080p24 videos belong here (they use level 5.0); the most notable exception is the new, high-end Canon EOS 5D Mark III, which not only records audio into AAC instead of the far more storage-unfriendly PCM, but also uses lower and iOS-compatible H.264 levels (4.0 for 1080p and 3.1 for 720p videos).
That is, first, try finding out what the H.264 level of your videos are and change them with Subler. If Subler can't change it, use other apps to do it. Read  http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/making-stock-videos-application-play-every-mp4 -files-possible for a full tutorial (the Subler link is at the bottom). It's about synching for the "Videos" app; however, the same also applies to synching photos back in the "Photos" tab.
BTW, what camera model is that?

  • M2t files show wrong aspect ratio in Bridge CS5

We're using Bridge CS5 version 4.02.1 running on a Vista 64bit machine.  Our m2t files appear in Bridge as a 4:3 aspect ratio, when they should show 16:9.  They import correctly into PProCS5.  Our MOV files show correctly in both Bridge & PPro.  Why do the m2t files show incorrectly in Bridge?  According to Adobe Updates, all of our products are current.

For future referernce: in order to view anamorphic/non-square material correctly the Preview window of Compressor 3, you need to (counterintuitively) uncheck the Square pixels toggle (available in the center drop-down).
However, that said, if you're transcoding to ProRes422, make sure you've adjusted the Frame Size setting in the Geometry pane of the Inspector. By default, the ProRes422 preset converts material to 100% of source but, since ProRes is a square pixel codec (and HDV is not) that won't work for you. So, adjust the Frame Size value to 1902x1080 and your transcodes should be all good...

  • Why don't .MOV files display thumbnails in XP?

Can ANYONE see .MOV thumbnails in XP? If so, how? I have the most recent version of QT loaded, but .MOV files show a QT logo, not an image preview.
.WMP and .MPG files will show a thumbnail.
Is there something I am missing?

    James,
Thanks for your response.  The image was on a site I maintain.  I have already replaced the image with a jpg, which works fine.  I believe I can duplicate the problem, if you think it is worth it.  Gimme a few...
http://www.oaksbible.org/Contents/about2.html is the page with the png I restored to use.
http://www.oaksbible.org/Contents/about.html is the page with the replacement jpg
Just checked.  The png still does not display on iPhone(5) or iPad(3).  The image was also made by me in pixelmator and both (png and jpg) were exprted from pixelmator.
    thanks again,
    Tim
