Movie freezes on my new iWeb site

Just tried to publish my movie (1G) (new user) to my new iWeb site (new user)... It takes forever to load (is the file too big?) and then when finally loaded it freezes with ever other photo or so and will not play smoothly. It's been frustrating and I would really appreciate your help! Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes, a 1 G movie is way too big for a web site. How did you create the movie? Have you looked into ways to reduce it's size. Quicktime Player can reduce a movie's size to meet several criteria as shown in the File->Export for Web settings window:
That can reduce it somewhat. If you bring the movie into iMovie you can export it to a MobileMe gallery in multiple sizes to fit the viewer's internet connection speed and device.
The resulting gallery can be inserted into a web page using iFrame code and an HTML snippet as in this demo page: Adding a MMe Gallery from iMovie 09. This is predicated on you having a MobileMe account where you're hosting the site.
A way to add the movie to a page and have the page load fully without having to have the movie load are demonstrated here:
Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window
QT Movies via Export for Web in QT Player
Still another alternative would be to convert the movie to flash and use that. Flash conversions are generally much smaller than Quicktime files. You can learn more about that at:
http://roddymckay.com/VisualMedia/FlashVideo.html
http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Movies.html
The bottom line is: 1 GB is way too large.

  • How to copy iWeb blog to new iWeb site?

    Hi Folks,
I am able to successfully move, via drag and drop, my blog from an old iWeb site to a new one in iWeb.
However, what I want to do is to preserve the old blog as a backup, and them start updating and chagging the blog contet in the new iWeb site. I actually use the blog on my site as a way to list courses.
I've tried to copy files in the iWeb site files, and then reopen iWeb, and I can't see the blog page listed.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Inoshi

To be able to drop and drag from one site to another in iWeb, you firstly need to have iWeb 09.  You then need to open the relevant domain.sites file and you need to have the sites underneath each other, so Site1 above and then Site2 below and all you do is just click on the Blog page on Site1 and just drag it over and down to Site2.
You can't do it individually, but you need to drag from one site to another.
I would also advise that you don't use the iWeb blog, as it is not that good and there are better alternatives out there.
You might like to look at some new software too such as EverWeb - http://www.everwebapp.com.  It is very like iWeb, but is actively supported and developed whereas for the last 2 years, iWeb has not been and has not been sold by Apple either.
If you wanted a better blogging system, you could transfer your whole website into WordPress.org.  You need to install it on a server at your web host, but it might serve you better and you can create a blog it you want to and you can extend it with the use of plugins.  Would not take too long to re-create depending on the size of your site and it is relatively easy to use compared to the other CMS's.
Think about changing before iWeb becomes unusable.

  • How can I make my old Homepage take me directly to my new iWeb site???

Is there I way I can have it so people don't first have to "land on" a .Mac homepage and then push a "button" to get to the new iWeb site?
It would be GREAT if anyone knew a way to do this... I am so excited with my new site, but need it to replace my old .Mac homepage (or at least make it so people are automatically redirected to the new iWeb page)
    Anyone have some ideas??
    Max

They should go all back into the green Purchased playlist when you make another purchase.
How can I get it back into a playlist other than dragging each song
Make a Smart playlist and set it to Kind contains Purchased, then you won't have to drag any songs.
    I have over 3500 purchased
    Really?
    3500 purchased songs?

  • How do I remove old web site when publishing new site with same URL in iweb? Hit replace when publishing new iweb site (so we could have control over changes) but new site name is attached to old via a / after our www address we want to keep.

I hit the replace when publishing the new iweb site (so we could have control over changes - last one was not an apple based site) but new site name is attached to old via a forward slash and underscore after our www address. Makes it very messy with a very long web address.  Original address now followed by iweb site name followed by name of first page? Went for iweb as not that computer literate - all going so well?! Cheers for help in anticipation. Have to get off to work now but be great end to week if we could be sorted tonight. Rupes

Well yes of course, if you try and publish through iWeb there won't be an option to publish without your site folder which is exactly why I told you to download Cyberduck and use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server having published your site from iWeb to a local folder.  That is what you need to do if you don't want your site name to be included in yoru url.
It would have been easier also if you had used Cyberduck initially to connect to your server and delete your old site yourself - at least that way you would have deleted the correct files rather than relying on your hosting service to do it and doing it incorrectly.
Download Cyberduck and then select the publish to a local folder option from iWeb and then use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server, but rather than uploading the whole site folder and separate index file, upload ONLY the contents of your site folder and then your url will be http://www.domain.com/page_name.html.
    It really isn't rocket science!

  • Can't Upload new iWeb Site

Ok, so I had my old iWeb site uploaded everything was great. I modified the look and now I can't seem to get the **** thing uploaded. I have tried three different programs. I've tried Cyberduck, Fetch, and one I saw on here Easy iWeb Publisher v1.2.3.
Every freak'n time I try they disconnect on me. For example, Cyberduck and Fetch timeout and disconnect on the 'about us.css' file. it's only 4K, but it will not load it. What is going on? I'm so completely frustrated. I leave for LA in one day and I need to get this site uploaded. Please help!

I would roll with you on that one, except my old site
had the exact same titles and it worked fine. I have
been trying to upload this new version of our site
for a full 24 hours and yet I only have about 4 pages
loaded. iWeb really need to have ftp features with
options to choose publish only changed pages, etc.
This really has nothing to do with iWeb. The current various dedicated ftp programs have more options than iWeb would ever likely have itself. Any problems you are having are the result of issues with your host or your connection or your ftp operation. Your host ought to be able to look at logs and find out what's going wrong and fix it.

  • Elder "domain" file opens only new iWeb site

    Hi folks,
[I'm a newbie on this site, tried to find the answer in other topics, but couldn't find....]
While buying a new hard disk, I made a simple backup of my old folders on my Ipod. Importing user/library/application support/iWeb/domain on to my (new) desktop, it's only starting up iWeb application, opening the choose...option, or a new test-site I recently made.
How to activate the elder domain (with a fullsize website in it) ?
[I can control-open domain, forcing to show the Html and see my text as text only]
    Frits Toben

    Hi Tom and others,
'm not sure what you are trying to do, but opening a Domain file >>accomplishes nothing. The Domain file must be read by the iWeb app
Shortly, the trouble is that bringing in the old "domain" file from my backup disk into the iWeb/application support - file [after deleting the newly formed "domain"-file], it doesn't affect the starting up iWeb at all. The app is always giving a new start-up: You only can choose for a new template.
So I don't want to change anything, I only want to add my old site after having cleaned up my original hard-disk [and making a backup by hand]
In fact there are some more files in the Library that form the "old" site. There is a iweb.plist, there are cache files including maps with cache-code. There are also specific preferences, there are even Thumbnails with a date filing in it. But you can't force iWeb to read these all, because it makes a new file after starting up, not being able to open something that was made before.
However, there is one thing that gives me hope: the resouces of the "old" domain are showing in the media browser.......after I changed one of the new preference files with the old one.
friendly regards and thanks for helping me so kind,

  • Viewing new iWeb site...

I am new to the whole iWeb software [actually we just bought our first mac for christmas]. I have published a couple web pages. Both have had quite a few photos in them. My question is that when i access the pages from my work pc they take a long time to download. A friend of mine has noticed the same from a computer he uses back home in NY. My question is..
Is the download speed due to who hosts my webpage??
I should note my work requires me to be on the internet quite often, so my connection and computer are top of the line. [cable connetion].
One of my sites is going to be for a youth group so i want to make sure kids will be able to access it easily without a lot of waiting.
    Thanks!!

usually you shouldn't need anything over 640 by 4XX
personally i even make thumbnail versions of my graphics as well, but if you downsize all your photos you are using to no bigger than 640x??? then you should see a nice improvement in speed.
but if you have a graphic that needs to be larger than the 640 size, you need to downsize it to what you need. i.e. 700x??? so it will fit natively and not need to be stretched.
    does this help?
i did this with my site : http://www.brianmedia.net
and it loads a lot faster than before.

  • Hard drive dead with iweb site inside.  new iweb site replaced my old site!

Is the old site a gonner? I had published the site with a personal domain, hosted with mobile me. When adding a new site, iweb replaced my old one. the old one was my business portfolio. the new one is just a single property advertisement.
why dont I see my old site on mobile me? (even before I published this new one)

I don't believe so. Not unless the new site had the same name as the old/business site. Mount your iDisk and check inside the Web/Sites folder for your personal and business site folders.
What type of domain name forwarding are you using? If your business site is in a different domain file than the personal site the last published site will have the minimal URL for your MMe account: http://web.me.com/yourMMe_AccountName/.
You may have to change your domain name forwarding to include the business site name in the URL: http://web.me.com/yourMMe_Account_Name/Business_SiteName/.

  • Buy & Sell Tools for new iWeb site

    Hello,
I've had a Hompage website business for sometime, but with iWeb and the fact that somehow my business can now be Googled has made me take a hard look at what I created and how I am going to shape it into a sucessful small business.
My biggest concern is that I do not have any real buy & sell tools to go with my business. I ran across a mention in this forum about RegNow, but I honestly cannot figure out what they actually do. I want some legitimate enterprise to provide the tools I need so my credit card customers can buy from me. I would also like for my customers to have the ability of tracking their order as well.
Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Phillip

You could just set-up a Paypal on your site and that would be easy and effective. Look here to find out how to get a Paypal button on your site:

If you shipped through UPS or Fed-Ex you could e-mail your customers a tracking number so they can track their order.
Check out http://iWebTricks.com for other iWeb tips and place your mark on my Guestmap (that I just figured out how to open in a new custom-sized window) while you're there.
If you find this information useful or if it offers a solution to your problem, please mark this reply either as "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons in the title bar of this reply. Thanks!

  • Trying to publish a new iWeb site to mobileme

My son is part of a family account I have and he is experimenting with creating a blog using iweb
Is publisihing on Mobileme still supported?
We are trying to publish but it's selling us to sign in (and we are signed in) and can't progress further
I know that no future for IWeb publishing to MobileMe has been announced but is creating a new blog for an existing member of a family pack still supported?
    Thanks in advance
    James

Yes, if you already have a MobileMe account, then you can publish until June next year.
The Family Pack has different log in accounts, so just log out and then log in again.

  • My new iWeb site

I have been using wordpress for some time now for my personal blog. I needed to create a site for my work, so I decided to give iWeb a try for the first time. My experience was not bad, though I think I still like the look, and customization available for wordpress...but here it is.
    What do you think?
    http://www.forberglaw.com

    Hi Ed,
If you're a blogger-only guy then I would go for the WordPress and that's why:
Because using wordpress you can edit your blog from the net, from wherever you are (as long as you're staying on our planet), from whatever computer you're on (your parent's your's brother's sister's aunt's son's daughter's oncle's grandpa's grandma's, PCs running Windows or Mac OS). If you use iWeb you have to have a Mac, have iWeb and your Domain file where iWeb stores its files. I'd say it's quite limited.
If you're planning to make also other things than blogging then you could use both iWeb and Wordpress together and link between them.
I used Wordpress ("the download thing") for a while but I'm not a blogger guy so I don't have it anymore. Make sure that if you want to use "the download thing" your hosting has to fit the requirements. If you have .Mac it's not gonna work.

  • Move iWeb sites from SL to Mountain Lion

Hi All, now that I have finally (reluctantly) decided to move to ML I need to move all of my old iWeb sites from my SL disk. Can anyone tell me how please

To use iWeb on your new Mountain Lion system, you will need to move both your iWeb application as well as the website database itself. Here is where each item is located...
iWeb Application is located in "/Applications".
iWeb website database is located in "~/Libarary/Application Support/iWeb". There is a file in here called "Domain". This is your actual database used by iWeb.
Move both of these files into the exact same locations on your new Mountain Lion system. If need be create folders in your user Library to drop the "Domain" file into. Mountain Lion hides your Library folder, but you can get to it by opening Finder, holding the "option" button down, and clicking "Go" in the menu bar up top. You will see a "Library" option appear in the menu that drops down.
    Hope this helps.

  • New iWeb User needs help regarding multiple sites

As a new user please excuse me if this has an obvious answer.
I have 4 web site, very simple, that I have used Frontpage with for years.
I want to make new websites with iWeb but I am worried I may screw something up.
I have already created one new iWeb Site and it comes up in the left hand pane as SITE 1.
I have used that for ages and use a seperate FTP program to publish to my independent Server with no problem. I usually publish to a folder first then use the FTP software to publish to the Server and its fine
The trouble I have now is probably becasue I don't know how to use iWeb properly but I'll try to explain.
I made another website and it creates SITE 2 in the left hand pane and I have produced a few pages for that site.
My problem is that when i go to publish to a folder for the 2nd site, it automatically does the first site as well ?
In most other programs (like Frontpage) you have to open the individual sites on their own so you can keep everything seperate but iWeb seems to put them all together.
I now have a folder (on my Apple) with SITE 1 and all its files and in another seperate folder (which I made just for SITE 2) have SITE 1 and SITE 2 and I'm scared to delete the copy of SITE 1 in case it deletes all of it !!
I wish there was a simple 'OPEN SITE' command in iWeb where you cna pick the opne you want to work on but it doesn't seem to be there.
If I am missing something obvious I'd be grateful of some advice becasue I really would like to get the other sites made up.

I'll try to make this simple!
Lets say that you have a website already and you named the site Family.
You decide you want to create another website for example, My Pets.
First create a 2 folders a place them where you will remember where they are.
One of the new folders will be called (Family) (of course both folders are empty at this time. The second folder you created you will name (MY PETS)Ok you with me so far?
Now lets suppose you have the iweb open to the (Family) website. Quit iweb...
Go to users/Library/Application Support/iweb. You will see a iweb icon that will say (Domain.Sites2. Drag the domain.sites2 to the (family) folder you just created. Now for your new site that you want to start. (MY PETS) OPEN iweb. You should now be prompted to choose a template. That's because you removed the domain.sites2 out and put it into another folder.
iweb thinks your are starting a new project and prompts you to choose a template as described earlier. Any pictures you add you should keep them in the separate folder in case you need edit or if you accidentally delete them. For example on the (my Pets site) any pictures you have there you will have in the same folder as the my pets folder you created. What I do is I make additional folders within the site folder I created so I can find things faster. Pets,I would have a pets folder and so on. Do the same for the other folder.(Family)
Now you created your new website (MY PETS) and you decide you want to go back and work on the (Family) website. Quit iweb. and then go to User/Library/Application Support/iweb... REMOVE the Domain.sites2 (MY PETS) and go to other folder(Family) and drag that Domain.site2 where you previously removed the other domain.sites2.. Open iweb and there it is.
Tip: When you place a Domain.sites2 into one of the folders you created it is always good to copy the domain.site2 and paste it into the same folder. When you copy and paste a Domain.sites2 the copy of it will say (Domain copy.sites2) This is a good practice to make because if you forget to close a iweb and drag a domain.sites2 out and replace it with another site. iweb will overwrite it when you save and quit. If that happens Just go the the copy you made and drag it to the: users/Library/Application Support/iweb.
once you drag it to iweb folder click on it once and press enter. You will see the text Domain Copy highlighted. Just delete the word (COPY) make sure it looks like this when your done... Domain.sites2
Open iweb and there it is.
Sorry about all the detail as this is a bad habit of mine, but I hope it helps.

  • How to copy/paste iWeb site

    Hi!
    3 questions...
    1) How do I copy and paste my existing iWeb websites pix and text and links and so forth into a newly created iWeb website?
    2) How do I create new iWeb site name
    3) How do I delete the old site?

The only inane question is the one not asked. The best way to backup your web site is to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites2 file that is in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Varkgirl has an Automator work flow that will copy it to another location of your choice. I believe you can find it on  Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site or use this link to directly download it: Click Here. I believe it makes a zipped copy of the domain file and moves it to the location of your choice. It can take a while depending on the size of your site.
Since I have over 45 individual sites I use a backup application to backup it up after each time I edit and/or publish. After the initial backup the application, Synk Standard,it only backs up those new or changed files in the domain file(s). Much quicker that backing up the entire file(s).
If you have an external hard drive you can just drag the domain file to it after each use, replacing the previous one - if you don't have a backup program.
It's all one big learning curve here in the discussions. Some of us are just on a different part of the curve than others. Good luck.

  • My iWeb site can not be opened by many windows users only macs.

My iWeb site should open for all platforms = How to do?
I am also confused about compatability of my hard work and new iWeb sites (I love the iWeb App yet i got 4 family members all in different locations in the USA who run windows ....tell me that they could not open the web site which I announced via email.) Other Mac users did reply back saying it opened fine.
Please send me a way to enable my work to open or if u must please tell me if the windows users need a RSS Reader and or .Mac accounts and or iTunes etc etc ...I wish to feel like the work I do on my Mac is compatable for all. As is Apple continues to isolate others and will include others only if they switch....
Hey Macs are great so why not attract others with a platform that just includes all. Noone wants to enter a beautiful garden if the path to it is filled with thorns and at entrance others find a closed gate which reads You are not welcome.... that aint right and I'm a dumb bell old Dad who thought finally I was creating a web page that all could visit.
Send instructions please on how all people can access my iWeb sites.
    Alex L
My post above was replied with suggestion from Tom as seen then I followed up with thanks as seen.
Anyone else out there have problems and answers per setting iWeb sites so all platforms can access your site???
I really doubt there is any way for anyone to help
you unless you provide the url which is not opening
    some some users.
Thanks Tom for posting a reply which suggests I post my url so I have listed it below. I am just a Dad with all else so know that the guy writing this and using iWeb is a novice old man. I do like iWeb very much so if u can again reply or anyone reply how to allow all PC users to be able to visit this site than great.
    Thanks
    http://web.mac.com/alxnj/iWeb/ALsite/My_Family.html
Anyone else have ideas and or same problem?

    Thanks Andy,
I wish I could have told my sister about this as she could not open my homepage back before my new iWeb site. She now can open my site without the yet in case denial window does appear = I thank you.
I think my iWeb site works as Noone has said otherwise from any platform etc...
    Alex L
I do agree that should not have to be a consideration for any users so i agree that it would be great if Apple could allow simplicity to run seemlessly.
I have had this problem since Homepage, and here is
what has worked for me. I send out the link, and
then for PC users I send the link with "<" after the address (without quotation
    marks. e.g., <http://site.com>).
I also put a note that if that doesn't work, to just
copy and paste the link into a browser. With that I
have only had 1 person say they still can't open.
Everyone else gets it to work.
It's a lot to do and seems like a hassle, but you get
    used to it.
    Hope this helps!
    Andy Martini
PS - APPLE! When are you going to fix this??! It
seems like such a small thing yet you guys have been
    stumped for YEARS on this!
