Movie Gets Big Too Fast

Any suggestions on how to keep movie file size down to fit on one DVD?
Am doing a family wedding video. But I'm over 3.5 gb and it's only 14 +/- minutes of raw clips at the highest quality setting. The wedding's not nearly over yet, forget about the before the wedding stuff and the reception.
For sure I'll trim and cut, but there's a ton of stuff I want to include, like music and slides, not to mention a lot more video footage and transitions. I'll also have to clean up the audio for the vows and all that and put it back in.
I know there are different quality settings. But I don't want to have to release the wedding on several DVDs. I will if I have to but would like to try to get it all onto one DVD.
What is your feeling about the compression settings available in iMovie? Any suggestions? Quality vs. Length. . .
And does file size matter with DVDs the same way audio CD's are based on time? Or am I comparing apples and oranges?
Thanks.

Now are you talking about importing into iMovie?
Hi Frisbo.
I'm new to iLife and Quicktime, so bear with me, if you will.
Importing digitized hi-8 analog video into iMovie 6.0.2, where I intend to edit. Ultimately it will be burned to DVD for home TV viewing.
I was planning to go to iDVD 6.0.2. I have Quicktime 7.1.1 Pro. So one or all of those programs will be the route.
This is not for commercial release so I have a little leeway, though naturally the better the quality, the better my dinners will be when I visit the newlyweds
If thats what you are planning to do, you might have to
export with the 2nd best video size. (CD-ROM). That
will save up a ton of space, but you won't get the
GREATEST video quality, but you can get quality that
your able to see.
Is that gonna work?
Yes. Definitely helpful and I've done a couple tests based on your comments. Thanks.
That leads me to refine the question for an expansion from you:
Before I actually burn a DVD as a test, do you know how long playtime a DVD will hold at that resolution you mention? Up to 90 minutes or so?
And should I grab from my camera at the highest resolution and work in highest rez and then only worry about compression when outputting? I have plenty of ram.
Or is it better to keep the same quality from capture to edit to burn?

  • .mov files - video too fast, audio ok

    HI!
I have a problem with .mov files. They play and the sound is ok, but video plays too fast and i ahead of audio. I'm sure the video is too fast, because i can see when someone is talking that it's way too fast. I've tried reinstalling quictime, installing older versions, reinstalling direct x and graphics drivers. I even tried quictime alternative. Nothing helps. This happens to files that i have on my disc. And it only happens on my computer, on my brothers it plays just fine, so the files are ok.
    Can anyone help?

  • Data getting used too fast

I'm having issues with my data 2 months in a row I have went down too 100 meg from 1 gig. Previously I wouldn't even use 500 meg and Im using it for the same stuff. In 2 years with an IPhone 4 and 4S this is the only 2 months. So I have turned my data off when I use Wi Fi as it appears when data is on its getting used even when Wi Fi is showing as active. So if anyone has had a similar issue I will appreciate coments.

I also have battery issues and I happen to do debugging and tester as a living. The battery problem does not seem to be due to hardware failure as much as a software bug, which should be tagged as critical. I first called support from my service provider and was sent a replacement device that, as you might expect, ended up with the exact same problems as soon as it got upgraded to firmware 3.1.
I ended up calling Apple support since my iPhone is still under warranty. I have to send them over my device... Honestly, it is getting more than annoying at this point! I lost a whole week without my iPhone since it is unusable. I have to now ship it over to Apple and wait. This means an extra 2 to 3 weeks in total, translating into a full month of paying the full iPhone service package, but without having the iPhone. I would hope to get a good compensation as this means a decent amount of money I am losing...

  • Ipad battery get low too fast

Since some iOS Updates, my Ipad 3 has got an empty battery after 2-4 days. Before the updates my iPad was running 2-3 weeks in standby.
Does anyone have the same problem like me, and how did you solve it?

    FYI
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or - Recalibrate the battery. See link below.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Digitized 8mm movie shows too fast in iMovie

Have successfully made an iMovie from digitized 8mm home movies. The conversion looks good except that the screening/viewing speed is too fast, and there doesn't seem to be way in iMovie to slow it down. The fast, jerky motion is sporadic -- maybe 50% of the movie.

I'm hopeful. Tried Movie HD and got frustrated with it. iMovie '08 is much more user friendly, too bad is missing some of the old good features.
In case you need it, here is a "Quickie" video tutorial showing how to use the "Movie Speed" option. Just remember, an entry of 1.000 is the current speed. Multiples of "1" are speed multiples (e.g., 4.000 would be four times as fast) and entry of fractions will produce slow speed output (e.g., 1/4 = 0.250 or one-fourth normal speed.)
The specific tutorial is JES DEINTERLACER TUTORIAL 001 and this is the HOME INDEX PAGE.

  • Flash movies too fast with flash 10?

I have a website with some flash movies. they run at 30 FPS.
i recently installed a new version of flash and now my movies run
too fast. not too much fatser but enough to make a difference to my
audience. is this a feature of flash 10? what can i do to make sure
my viewers dont also have this problem??

Do you hear anything? Check your audio output. If it is set to hdmi, there's nothing to slow down the video and it plays too fast. Set the audio output to speakers and...voila!
This happened to me today. I had plugged in an external mic that used an A/D dongle (usb output) and it switched my audio output from speakers to hdmi somehow.  I could download flash movies as .webv and play them at regular speed with VLC, with no sound. I use Linux Mint 17, but I saw other forum posts where this happened on Windows and Ubuntu.

  • Interactive "on page load" animations in swf get messed up if clicked too fast

interactive "on page load" animations in swf get messed up if I click too fast "next page" or "previous page".
It seemes it can't manage on "page load" animations so fast, so as a result i have mixed animations for example of page1 and page2.
if page1 has animation1 and 2 and i clicked next page, the next animation to appear is number 3 of page 2 , instead of number 1 which must be the first one to be triggered.
This only happens if i click fast and several times the "next page" or "previous page.

I have to say what you are trying might not be the best technique. The show hide might work ok for one or two items on a page but when you use it in the manner you are you are going to have the issues that you are now having...not to mention longer page loading do to larger file size of the page. My suggestion is to look into jquery and there are many plugins that can be modded to look the way you want however perform ten times better then using AP divs with show/hide.
Here is one example that I found of a jquery plugin. There  plugin after plugin on the web for every scenario and they all can be modded to fit you needs. Do a search and you will eventually find something that fits your needs.

  • Help! why iMovie app stalls when skimming over movie clips? too big a file?

    Hello all,
I've only been using a Mac for about a year; and am pretty new to using iMovie as well. I have a Core 2 Duo- Macbook with OS X 10.4.11 and 3 gig of RAM. Anyway, forgive if I don't use the correct terminology:
Okay I know my screencapture vido clips (.mov format) are about 30-67mb. I'm only loading one at a time that I need to work with in the 'New Event" section.
Even if I turn off every application, disable spotlight, take out the widget apps, background running apps, and turn off wireless, I still get the iMovie app...
...um how to describe...hmm.....well....that pinwheel/hourglass....."please wait a sec' thing comes up whenever I take my mouse and try to skim a SHORT amount of video (with no audio i might add). So if I move it then it takes several seconds for the app to catch up and then play the part that i skimmed over. I don't have to move it far or fast. This is happening even though I have added the movie from New Event to the project space.
Ah, I just looked more carefully and this 'catching up' thing is happening no matter what I'm doing like even trying to get to the menu or close part of the project window. And I might add my fan is gets louder and faster a few seconds after trying to do anything in iMovie and goes down after I do something else shortly afterwards. I noticed on the Activity monitor that it's taking ALOT of CPU power to just skim over little bits of video (or so it seems from the spikes in the visual meter in green 'user' bar part)
    What's up with this?
Please help as I'm trying to finish this graduate school webpage project that needs to be turned in tomorrow (yeah I know, I procrastinated :-P
I'm also trying to save money from calling Apple Support and pay them because I didn't pay for that extended care plan

Okay thanks for that explanation of things. I had forgotten about having data/media on a separate HD. I should have remembered that from when I've dabbled in creating music and had read to store one's audio and other data on a separate drive.
So, yes all my media is stored in the same folder and just on the main drive. Also, in the import settings i chose for the files to be copied to where ever it copies them. I thought that might help. Was that a good choice or.....?
I guess in the long term I need to switch to my external drive. However, I'm not at my house at the moment, and can't use the drive because I have to learn to config it anyway into two separate partitions and formats for storing PC stuff on and Mac stuff...currently have a PC-NTFS formatted partition with PC data and haven't taken the time to learn how to do the other partitioning for the Mac.
I need to figure out how I can deal with this stuff between today and tomorrow
So from the info above in the other reply I guess the Mpeg 4 format is not acceptable then for a format as you talk about making it easier to scrubb? I did a quick screen capture to see which file formats I can save stuff in. So are you saying I should have saved the files in DV-PAL format? BTW, I don't have any audio recorded with the file. It's just a visual presentation. also BTW, the reason I chose the mpeg 4 was in thinking that it might be better with the file size when converting the finished iMovie and then converting it to a Flash .flv file so I can put a small video on a webpage.
So would I need to re-save the clips somewhere to another format? Hmm which app would re-save a current video file if I need to do that: iMovie, Flash, Quicktime, iDVD, and Dreamweaver is the stuff I have that would deal with any kind of video.
I hope all this doesn't end up being that I need to use my external HD which I don't have the time to research/re-read that info for dual formatting a drive for PC and HD. Unfortunately, I've got three assignments to do with the time I have today (Tues.) and tomorrow, then school is finished.

  • A bug? Photoshop Action Playback is too fast after CS5-CS6 upgrade!! My action wont work

    On a PC
I upgraded from CS5 to CS6 (cloud) over the long weekend and I'm now faced with a massive headache. The process actions I use intensively for my work are all foxed by the simple problem that the action playback is going too fast for scripting over two documents to keep up. I have tried everything I can think of but the only thing that allows the action to progress sensibly (as in previous versions of the software) is the step-by-step playback mode. This is too slow to use on an ongoing basis.
The problem is caused by the following sequence
    Save as document (on desktop)
Open as document - open as Camera Raw - after settings open in Photoshop
    Select All
    Copy
    Close - saving no
    (PS automatically selects previous document)
++++ paste ++++ ERROR Paste command is not currently available
This is where Photoshop should select the previous/underlying document before applying the Paste command. Since the upgrade its been trying to paste the clipboard in the split second after closing and selecting the previous document, and reporting no document available at all. Slowing or pausing the playback with step by step or stop&continue works around the problem but causes workflow to slow down drastically.
Is there a way to script a pause during this one crucial moment? Or is there a preference setting I have overlooked that is casing the behaviour?

Save as - open as camera raw - select all- copy - close - paste. The dance is the ony way I can apply Camera Raw settings such as clarity, noise reduction etc to my retouch after the initial raw conversion. Its a well used technique that I've known about for years. Loads of people use this method in CS6, but for some reason I can'y get it to work after the upgrade.
The action is recorded in the regular record/play type action script. Its a big action and would take many hours to convert into javascript (even if I had the skills). I could possibly use the script recorder plugin but that rules out future tweaks without rewriting everything from scratch. app.refresh and $.sleep sound interesting though... is it possible to incorporate them into the basic action script?
