Movie Improvement Suggestion

I use iTunes alot, in fact I use iTunes as my default movie player as it allows me to display the DVD cover. However, (I'm not sure that the iTunes support guys read this but...) I would like to recommend a change. Currently when using iTunes for movies if you right-click on a movie and select 'Get Info - Info', you are presented with a screen allowing you to imput details and information. This screen, however is still based around music files and still includes 'Artist, Album Artist, PBM and Track No'. It would be immesurable helpful if the movie info screen showed field such as 'Film Name, Cast, Year, Synopsis and Genre'. Does any one else have an opinion on this or can suggest other changes on the same subject?

    Hi there,
    I have been trying to post this improvement suggestion by filling-in the corresponding form but it didn't allow me enough characters to describe it correctly. So I am posting it here now and going to reference it in the Improvement Suggestion form...
    Currently it's hard to perform a good edit because Adobe Premiere Pro doesn't provide a clip basket showing all available clips running, allowing the user to preview and choose from different takes of the same scene.
    I'd like to suggest to animate all movie clips in all repositories, like Media Browser and Project panels, in order to create kind of an animated lightbox.
    These clips should be run without audio, in low resolution and, optionally, at a lower framerate, depending on the machine's capabilities and user's preferences.
    Clicking (and thereby activating) one of those movie clips should ...
    magnify that clip,
    enable audio for that clip,
    display a timeline,
    and display an in-point and an out-point marker.
    Using these markers, the user shall be able to limit the preview loop of the clip in that particular repository (e.g. to repetitively monitor only a small scene of the movie clip).

    After carrying this thought with me around for a while I'd like to add an update to my original suggestion:
    When comparing different takes (= clips) of the same recorded live scenes, the usual editing process while working with Premiere Pro would be to drill down on the take that's supposed to be inserted into the sequence. So if there were 8 takes of the same scene, first there would be 8 clips to compare, then 7, 6, 5, 4... until the final clip is found.
    In the course of the comparison process it would be very helpful to be able to "switch off" those takes that have been decided not to be used. So I'd like to update my suggestion to provide the following additional features:
    Each preview clip should provide a play/pause feature. So playback shall be switched on and off individually for each of the preview clips.
    As mentioned in my original suggestion, when activated (zoomed), the preview should provide buttons for manipulating that clip preview's playback. Originally I suggested a Play Audio button (with a speaker symbol).
    I now, additionally, suggest to add a Play/Pause button to an activated (zoomed) clip preview. If playback is active, that button should display a Pause icon. If playback is paused, the same button should display a Play icon.
    Given that, an active preview would be displayed something like this:
    After a clip has been selected for an insert, the next editing step would be to search a clip from the repository for the next insertion into the sequence. So all tracks would be back in the game.
    So there should be a new menu item, resuming playback of all preview clips in the repository: "Edit > Preview > Play all clips".
    If the user wants to concentrate on the Program Montitor video, he/she should be able to pause all preview clips. So I suggest the should be a new menu item complementing the previous one: "Edit > Preview > Pause all clips".
    Some people might prefer not to see any animation in the repositories at all. For them there should be a new option available in Premiere Preferences to pause all preview clips by default (this setting would equal to the current behaviour).
    The user might want to concentrate on a single preview clip and just want to have this single clip being played back when activated (zoomed).
    So I suggest there should also be a Solo option available.
    By holding the [CTRL] key down while clicking the Play/Pause button suggested in provision #1, all preview clips should be paused and the currently active (zoomed) preview clip should be played back alone.
    In my suggestion I have been focussing on using Premiere Pro with the mouse. But there should be keyboard shortcuts available for all these actions, too.

  • Front Row Movie Playback Suggestions

    Intro....
    I'm loving the new front row, especially since i can watch my Video_TS files. After using the software for a few weeks, I've realized a behavior. I want to watch movies at home similar to the movie theater. Specifically, I want to watch trailers before my selected movie.
    Suggestion....
    1. User selects movie, in my case under the movie folder
    2. One randomly chosen trailer plays from the Theatrical Trailers section
    3. Another randomly chosen trailer plays (the amount could be a preference)
    4. A 10 sec intro movie welcoming people to my theater (I even tell people to shut off phones
    5. Feature presentation
    Conclusion....
    I believe this will be a great option. Good for Apple because more people will watch the trailers. Good for users who like to watch trailers (in the theater you don't select your trailers), and good for people who have a custom movie intro (like me and Kaleidescape users). Seems like an easy thing to incorporate.
    Any additional suggestions to this. If there is an applescript that can do this, please let me know.

    The green status bar at the bottom shows how much data frontrow needs to grab before it thinks it can start playing the video. It doesn't show the amount of data transfered relative to the total file size. If the bar is 100% green it means that frontrow thinks there's enough of a cache to start playing the file without interruption until the end. By the time it's finished playing this cache more data will have already downloaded so it can keep playing etc etc.
    In other words, it hasn't downloaded the Star Trek trailed 8 times. It starts playing before the whole thing downloads but then stops when it runs out of data to play. Basically, the cache is set too small for your connection. There's a preferences for this kind of think in the Quicktime system preferences panel but there doesn't seem to be one for Front Row. Its suppose to be automagic... unfortunately it looks horribly broken. Very very distracting actually... makes the whole feature useless in my opinion.

  • Camera improvement suggestion

    Hi,
    I would like to suggest 2 improvement to the Camera application.
    1/ I would like an option to have the file name for photos and movies been something like: YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS
    in order to have a direct sort of file with file creation information 
    with YYYY is year in 4 digits
    MM is Month on 2 digits
    Dd is day on 2 digits
    HH is hour, MM is minute and SS seconds
    2/ I would like Movies creation date field populated. This would help to rename properly file if my suggestion 1/ is not implemented.

  • 11 Improvement Suggestions

    For a long time now I have been looking for a fast useful organizer that will allow me to organize my research PDFs, financial documents, etc. Basically trying to go towards a paperless home office if possible, and at the same time using it to keep up with my research reading. Digital editions meets some of the criteria. I can tag documents by placing them on multiple bookshelves and I can view the documents right there in the program(of course as an ebook reader I guess this is expected). The few things I really hope for is:
    1. Easy renaming of titles. Right now I have to go back to acrobat to rename the title to something useful. This is fine for documents I am creating new, but I already have a collection of documents that I don't want to have to go back and change the name on each and every one of them.
    2. Have a smart folder which lists all the untagged(non-bookshelf) documents. This way when I import 20 documents at a time I can easily see which ones are left to tag.
    3. Allow us to create smart lists. This is why people are resorting to iTunes to organize their pdf documents.
    4. Let me go to the file directly. I see the information dialog box about the file lists the location. Why can't I click it and the program opens the folder and highlights the file I am working on.
    5. Rotation within editions. Sometimes when I scanned documents in I didn't get the orientation right. Why not let me rotate it and save it?
    6. Link to acrobat reader or full version acrobat so that I can make some changes to the file.
    7. Combine the organizer within acrobat with this. I would use that organizer, but it doesn't allow me to run it separately without opening the behemoth acrobat. I want a quick organizer where I can locate the document I want and then decide if I want to print/edit or just read the document.
    8. If a file changed in the directory, why doesn't it change in Digital editions or at least ask me to locate the renamed file. I haven't even gone as far as checking what happens if I change some other aspect(ie text addition) within acrobat, save it and then go back to editions.
    9. Allow me to fill in forms and save, so that I don't have to go to reader or acrobat for this.
    10. Why isn't there a hand to allow me to move the page around while reading. This is standard on almost all other adobe product I know. Lets get a unified interface.
    11. Make it easier to tag. Maybe even predictive tagging based on content.
    The program looks really good. Runs phenomenally fast and could be very useful. If do a search of the web for pdf organizers (especially for windows) you'll see this is one area that there is a desperate need for. Macs have programs like Yep, Papers, Devonthink, etc.. I don't mind DE working as an ebook reader, but I think it could be so much more. Mac users may not be as desperate for some of these features because of Yep or Papers, but as a windows user and a researcher I am in desperate need of something that can do most of the above.

    These are great suggestions. Many of them are on our own lists. However, we are a relatively small team, so it takes us time to get to all of them. With respect to #9, there is not present intent to support this. Part of the rationale for splitting DE off from Acrobat/Reader was to provide a lightweight client that could be used in a number of ways. If you need to support forms, one will need to stick with the more powerful (and larger) Reader.

  • Movie length suggestions?

    I have a movie that runs 2 hours and 56 seconds. Is there anyway to change the settings on iDVD 4.0.1 to allow me to burn this movie? It keeps giving the message that I can't burn the DVD because the length is too long. Any suggestions?
    I have burned DVDs that are close to 2 hours before.

    iDVD limits you to 120 minutes total (that includes any menus, music, etc. you add in iDVD along with your movie.
    So no, in iDVD4 there is nothing you can do to burn a ~3 hour movie. You will have to break it up into a couple DVDs instead.

    In documents overview the convenient swipe gesture for "delete" already exists. What is about using gesture long tap (pressing/holding down) for
    Pop up dialogue "renaming" or even better
    treat that gesture like edit plus selection and offering immediately a local menu with items: 
    Open, Duplicate, Rename, Move to, Delete.
    In documents overview edit mode the functions duplicate, rename and delete start only one further popup to action, but the move needs one unnecessary step between, because the final dialogue for target choice does not have the proper headline.
    Regarding annotation or comment functions in reading mode:
    Have not found any undo for redlining, underlining, highlighting
    One solution could be toggling back those attributes on second operation
    Of course an undo button would be better.
    I miss default color settings for highlighting, underling, striking through, this could be placed in iOS system setting apps acrobat reader.
    Clicking existing annotations in normal reading mode leads opportunity to modify color as well as deleting, however, that is much too far away from the insertion action in annotation mode and user expectation of immediate correction. Otherwise it is good to have that 2nd way of highlighting selected text in reading mode.
    On transferring annotated unlocked! documents (back) to PC all my effort is getting lost.
    Annotations seems to be kept locally only on iPad instead of merging them with the documents, that behavior is very frustrating!
    Annotation tools bubble (the most left icon) and pen (most right icon) are not self explaining. Any short tap which is ok to open the other tool's dialogues does not work. In my case a longer tap (as for reading mode's local menu) is required to open notice dialogue, how shall I know this?
    The annotation mode tool bar is leaved by tapping up arrow icon at right margin...
    this seems to be inconsistently, because other bars at top are leaved by a type of return button at left margin.
    Minor issues
    Document renaming causes the loss of last reading position (i.e. last page memory) on re-opening.
    For info like this here a feedback button (without either further registration or login effort) should be introduced in iOS system setting apps acrobat reader info or inside AppStore.

    Please Upgrade X6's Firmware by incorporating atleast Support for Homescreen Widgets 'cos many applications on OVi we cannot install just bcos it doesnt support homescreen widgets...At present , i m using Orange TSunami Homescreen (third party application) to get shortcuts / widgets on my homescreen..
    Another feature is Add to favourites in contacts list just like in C6 model.
     Also Birthday reminders with Age in calender.
    Honsetly speaking I m a die hard fan of NOKIA & i hope u will never ever let me down by atleast upgrading this feature.
    When i see C6 & N97 models i feel like cheated.. i hope u will upgrade this feature in ur next coming firmware...

    Thought I'd post this here to see what everyone else thinks. I originally sent the email to the iWeb Feedback address. (BTW, I know that you can upload only updated pages to a third-party host, but, let's face it, it's a needlessly real pain in the neck.)

    I've been using iWeb since about a week after it first came out in '06. I've been very happy with it -- despite some issues, some of which were fixed in the '08 version (like knowing when text is being converted into an image) -- and have stuck with it, despite investigating RapidWeaver and SandVox. Basically, I know the app pretty well by now but lately I've noticed a few things that are missing or could be improved.
    a) You have got --simply got to -- allow people FTPing to outside hosts to publish only updated pages. This is the Number One complaint among experienced users, I think. I understand that you're trying to push people in the direction of .Mac hosting, but you're not persuading anyone (I have a .mac account, by the way). Your servers are way too slow to handle real websites and all you're doing is seriously irritating users. I came pretty close to switching to RapidWeaver SOLELY because of this pointless bit of aggravation. I saw a couple of other guys a few days ago on your forums writing that they had in fact gone to RapidWeaver for this reason and were dropping iWeb as a result. In short, in this respect, RapidWeaver (or any web-design app) beats the pants off you.
    b) The Zoom facility needs major attention. When I'm working with iWeb I find myself leaning in to the screen to focus on one small part of the page. You need to integrate a magnifying tool of some sort. This would make things a lot easier for a lot of people.
    c) Along the same lines, I'm hankering for a quick-and-easy "ruler." The blue guidelines you have are fantastic, but when I'm trying to line up things or measure exact distances between objects/text, I really need a ruler to judge pixel distance, etc. When I'm doing at the moment is drawing a line, moving it to the right spot, cutting it to length, and judging from there whether the distance between, say, two text boxes is appropriate. This is an unnecessarily onerous and time-consuming process -- and it's not even that accurate.
    d) I'm a journalist and author, and I'd really appreciate some templates/themes that captured "writing" stuff: typewriters, pens, quills, paper, gold-embossed letters, and NEWSPAPER-TYPE COLUMNS.
    e) You need clearer and more obvious instructions to help people learn about web-safe fonts. The flood of queries and comments in the Forums from people wanting to know why their website looks different in Explorer is neverending. The problem is that they blame iWeb, not Explorer, which is an admittedly atrocious browser. What I would really like is some ability to "see" the iWeb website in various browsers BEFORE I publish it to a folder or .mac. There must be some way of replicating a browser-shot within iWeb so that people's frustration would be immensely reduced at the outset. What's happening now is that I have to publish to a folder, upload it via CyberDuck to GoDaddy, then check out what the site looks like in PC Explorer and Firefox. If something small needs to be changed, I have to do it all over again -- and since you refuse to allow us to publish only altered pages, this whole process of changing one tiny thing can take up close to an hour. And my website's only about six pages long! I don't even want to think about what happens if you have 36 or 56 pages.
    f) Please oh please oh please introduce expanding menus, accordions, and the like . . .
    g) What is up with the inability to handle more than a single Site at a time and being unable to split them up before publishing? Thank goodness for the third-party developers who have come up with ways to get around this, but to tell you truth, they shouldn't need to. Fix this asap.
    h) The Blog pages need work. I tried to start a blog for the website using iWeb and, though it looks OK, I've edging heavily towards only providing a link to WordPress or Blogger and keeping it there instead. Why? Because, I'm using the Darkroom template (which comes with Futura font) with Trebuchet (because Futura is not web-safe, thanks to Mr. Bill Gates, meaning that I have to change everything to an image). Now, on the Entries page, Trebuchet works fine, but on the landing Blog page, no matter how many times I change the font to Trebuchet and save, it always reverts to the Futura default as soon as I leave it in IWeb and come back -- which of course will lead to problems with Explorer. On top of that, if I have to update the blog, say, twice a day, your rule on publishing and uploading every single page again makes the whole blogging thing a real chore. I'd vastly prefer keeping the blog on my own website, but you're kind of forcing my hand.
    i) OK, that's about it."

  • IPhoto "Events" improvement suggestions

    Events are an improvement over film rolls. But there are cases that don't work well with Events.
    For example, if I take a birthday shoot during the day, then take a picture of my bedroom at night, that final photo doesn't belong to the event. Splitting it produces a pretty awkward event of one picture. This is actually a very common case -- my library if filled with odd pictures taken here and there that don't belong to any logical event.
    It is frustrating to have every photo bound to an event. Often I take pictures just to record aspects of my life -- like what I had for dinner or a bunch of books that just arrived. The result is that the average import size is around 3 pictures. The problem is, these "events" have the same display prominence as wedding and birthday pictures. I would love to use the events viewer, but these pictures have no place. I can't hide them since they disappear in the regular photo viewing section too if I do. If I try to collapse them into one event, they soon begin to lose their temporal coherence. The right solution is to have them outside of events. But this is not possible. But the very existence of miscellaneous pictures completely undermine the utility of the events viewer.
    I think the premise that events are around 50 photos is too simple an assumption. The fact is, everyone has different shooting habits, and it would be a mistake to make events out of every imported photo.
    The novelty of events is in their viewing capability -- fast scrubbing, easy key photo selection and attractive thumbnails. This viewing ability should be extended to photo albums. It would be much more useful if I can view a folder of albums in this way. For example, I have a folder that lists all the European cities I've been to. Each city has its own album. The current way of viewing doesn't allow me to them in events mode. Instead, they are spilled into several pages. Having the events viewer for albums and nested folders would be highly useful.

    This is very true. But don't get hung up on the Word, you can make events mean what you want it to mean. In v6 I had Rolls for every import, not every picture belonged to an event - sometimes they might be months apart. So, I managed my Rolls - The Birthday Pics were one roll, but then I created generic Rolls for unrelated pics - March - May 07 was one, for instance. You can do exactly the same with Events.
    Remember, Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents). So, a photo has to be in some folder somewhere.
    And remember the ability to create and manage by Albums is not changed in v7
    As to your comments about viewing Albums in the same way as Events, why not send Feedback using the command in the iPhoto menu.
