Movie in Keynote not playing in self-playing presentation

I have a QuickTime clip in my presentation that will only work on normal presentation mode of Keynote. In the self-playing mode, which should allow the presentation to run its own, the QuickTime clip starts, but shortly thereafter stops, as does the whole presentation.
The file extension for the movie clip shows as MPEG - anyone know how I can get this to play properly on cue in the presentation ... I saw a post that suggested iSquint, but I couldn't get it to solve the problem -- HELP!

Curious,

This seems to be an issue concerning recent updates to KN and QT.
However, your problem may simply be a codec issue. Does the file play without probs in QT? (I see it does play in normal pres mode). You may need to convert that file from its original mpeg codec to something else. If you have QT Pro this will be easy.

I have got VLC which runs them fine but cannot get movies saved in iPhoto to play in VLC...and of course its a real bugger to copy moves from iPhoto to another folder; in fact if anyone can tell me how to do that I will accept defeat!

  • Quick time movies (.mov) files will not play in Iphoto 11.

Quick time movies (.mov) files will not play in Iphoto 11. The thumbnail of the movie shows but when selected only a exclamation mark appears.  I rebuilt the library, thumbnails, permissions etc. I also found the movie files in the iphoto database intact and working. Please advise.

    You're welcome.
Well believe it or not, that's exactly what the exclamation point means. Search the forum. I've been doing this a while.
Next, I have no interest, commercial or otherwise in Library Manager, I have no shares in the company that makes it. I didn't make it. It's not my software.  You could give those guys a million dollars and I'll get nothing from it. I and other expereinced users have recommended it thousands of times on this forum for this problem. Amazing how often it works. Of course, a quick search would have told you that already.
Another: Believe it or not you can use the Rebuild Function of Library Manager for free. You don't need to purchase it for that purpose.
Y'all have a nice paranoid day now.

  • My MOV videos do not play when I burn a DVD using iPhoto.

My MOV movies do not play when I burn a DVD using iPhoto.  I can use the other method with my Mac to burn DVDs but the videos are not good quality like they are in my iPhoto albums.  How can I get better quality in the DVD videos if I am unable to burn a DVD using iPhoto?  I upgraded to the free Mavericks.

    Hi
Most common origin to this are:
Brand of DVD used - NoName, Memorex etc cheap brands might work as Data-DVDs - BUT NOT as Video-DVDs
Type of DVD used - I only use SL-DVD-R as they also playback on older DVD-players. DVD+R for newer DVD-players. Never ever DVD+/-RW. Dual-Layers usually creates more problems than Single-Layers
BURN SPEED - Very IMPORTANT factor - I never go faster than x4 - Normally I use x2
Material used - Video Codec, Photo and Audio file formats
Video-Codec: StreamingDV, AIC and HDV (I use)
Photo: .jpg - NO .bmp or other - all converted to .jpg first
Audio: .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz (as on Audio-CDs) - NO .mp3, wma etc ailient formats - all converted to ..aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz first
Free Space: on Start-Up (Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - I never go less than 25Gb when doing Video-DVDs (for SD-Quality Video - if HD material is used 4-5 times more are a safe low level) (Other external Hard Disks - DO NOT COUNT as space here can not be addressed by Mac OS or iDVD for it’s massive use of .temp files)
Dusty DVD-burner Laser: I use a Cleaning DVD (no liquid but the one with brushes) from time to time.
Harmed DVD-burner Laser: Easy to do by burning more than three DVDs at a time - I let it rest for 30 minutes till next batch of three DVDs. If this happened - then only a costly repair will help. It will not heal by it self.
OBS: There are more than one Laser in the DVD-Burner so other functions might work OK as Playback CD/DVDs and even burn CDs. Still being broken.

  • Why is the rented movie from iTunes not playing?

I have rented a movie from iTunes in my iPad, and it is not playing.  When I press on the movie title from the iPod > purchsed section, it gives me a black/blank screen for a second or two and then takes me back to the main desk-top screen.  Is there another program or step that I am missing?

Absolutely correct!  Wasn't even thinking about that.  LOL

You view rentals in Videos > Movies, not the iPod app.

  • Imported .mov file does not play in Flash export

I have imported a .mov file as a background for a flash banner I want to put on my website. The exported flash file plays all of the text animations, but the .mov background does not work -- it's just frozen on the first frame. I have read similar problems with QT exports, but I haven't found any similar flash problems. Thanks for any help.

I think it might be necessary to look at the Inspector in QuickTime. Open the .mov file in QuickTime and go to Window > Show Movie Inspector:
In the info window that comes up, under the Format: field you want to look at the second row where it tells you the audio track format:
In this example, this particular clip is in a really odd format. It is MPEG Layer 2 (no Layer 3 which is MP3 format) at 32Khz, Mono. Preferably for anything in iMovie or iDVD you would prefer the Inspector to look like this:
Linear PCM, 16bit (etc) 2 channels, 48kHz. This can be accomplished by downloading and installing MPEG Streamclip. Open the program and drag the .mov clip into the applicationw window (with five dots in it). Then under the File Menu choose Export to QuickTime:
Then go to the Compression pull-down menu and choose Apple Intermediat Codec (AIC):
Then under the Audio section, leave the audio pulldown to uncompressed but do set the sample rate to 48kHz instead of Auto:

  • MOV video does not play

    Hello guys,
I have posted a H.264 video clip on my website. It's size is 31 MB. It had played great when I was testing it from my desktop, but once I post it, it does not play. "Q" logo shows up, then the very first frame of the video shows up, but that's it. It does not start to play. Here is the link:
    http://www.icebergfilms.com/Video_files/demo1.mov
Any idea what I do wrong?
    Thank you so much

    Hi Kirk,
reason I am doing all these conversions is to achieve the smallest file possible for internet streaming in shortest period of time. I am exporting my video from Final Cut Pro timeline as QT movie. Then it goes to Compressor to be converted to ProRes to make it progressive and to change frame size. Resulting file goes to Compressor again to be converted to H.264. ProRes is an intermediate codec saving a lot of compression time.
I am trying to check settings during last conversion (from ProRes to H.264): Make it Fast Start and change the audio to AAC. But even though resulting file shows that video is AAC, the file is not any smaller at all. And video does not upload any faster with Fast Start on. So obviously, I am doing something wrong.

  • HT1657 rental movie on iTunes not playing

I just rented a movie and it wont play...suggestions? I have all the updates done. I tried restarting my computer and nothing...

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • ITunes movie purchases will not play on external display - HDCP auth error

    Hello,
Well, I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a storm over this one already but I expect there will be.
Just got a new MacBook last week and finally found a mini Display Port -> VGA adapter so i could use my 19" external display. I rented a movie from the iTunes store yesterday and when I tried to play it on my external display, it gave me a warning/error that the display was 'not an authorized HDCP display' and it would not play. Plays fine on the small MacBook screen, just nothing external. To make it even worse, i tried all the movies that I have purchased from the iTunes store with the same result... NONE of them will play on anything but the MacBook's small 13" screen. This is crazy unacceptable.
Has anyone else run into this yet or have any ideas of something I may be overlooking in order to get purchased movies to play on an external display?
    Thanks!

Hm, how many Apple users did I see scorning Vista and its content protection madness; agreeing with Peter Gutmann's searing critique of Vista[1].
And here we are now with Apple users who have spent thousands of dollars on Apple hardware (30" Cinema displays are not cheap!), buying films legitimately through Apple's store only to find themselves screwed when they just want to watch the film!!!
The deeper questions we should be asking is if Apple have done anything to enable end-to-end encryption. Vista made significant sacrifices to efficiency and stability to get there, what has Apple done to our OS? We have no technical details on this yet, but wouldn't Apple be improperly implementing HDCP (in spirit if not letter) if it didn't force end-to-end encryption from source to final destination, most of which has to go through your system?

  • AVC HD from Panasonic Lumix movie mode does not play on the iPad. Motion JPEG mode does play the videos, however there is no sound. Any suggestions?

AVC HD movie mode from a Panasonic Lumix camera will not play on the iPad, the format in the camera is not compatible. However, Motion JPEG mode in the camera will play the video on the iPad but there is no sound. Any suggestions?

Ok, I was an old fool, there is indeed a setting on the Lumix LX5 camera which seems to allows both audio and video, although not AVC HD, the camera must be set to Motion JPEG and subsequently NOT to PICT Bridge, rather to PC for the output. Anyone who decides to purchase a Panasonic Lumix should be aware of this. The iPad 2 will display Lumix perfectly in 720p which is enough for the old fool. The Sony NEX5N at twice the cost will do 1080p, but on the iPad and our TV the difference I suspect will not be noticeable.

  • I have a iMac - when I burn dvd of my home movies it does not play on other dvd players

When i burn a dvd on my imac - it does not play on other dvd players

    Buy iDVD on Disk.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • Movies and videos not playing clearly

I have my movies converted to mp4 format. They play clearly in itunes. On my ipod touch they do not play clearly...the color is choppy. It looks like it's a high-def movie and the ipod can't support it. I have other movies that are older that I have converted and play perfectly fine.
    Help?

Aside from Red, Green, and Blue, is it OK?
    To reset:
Hold the Sleep+Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
Ignore the prompt on the screen to slide to turn off.

  • Sept 2009 Keynote not playing on Apple TV

The Sept. 2009 Keynote will not play on my Apple TV. The video will not play by clicking either "Play" or "Download". All other Keynotes and other Podcasts play just fine, but this particulate one generates a "The Selected Video Cannot Be Played" error message followed by "The Format Was Not Recognized".
I'm using the latest update on my Apple TV. It appears the Apple needs to fix this Podcast. I'd love to show it to my family, friends and neighbors on my 60" HDTV!

  • Amazing Spiderman movie download does not play, what's up with that?

I bought the "Amazing Spiderman" movie in iTunes; it will not play on my Mac Pro.  A version of it did start on my ipad(3) wanted to finish on my Mac but all I get is a black iTunes window with controls and everything, but it will not play.  They still haven't updated Apple support pages to reflect Mountain Lion (10.8.2).
Oh, other movies that I have bought or ripped seem to work fine.

I got this response; I would have expected it to appear here, but it didn't.

You may have bought/ downloaded the Hi Def version of the movie but your monitor/graphics card combination doesn't support the HDCP protocols necessary to play the DRMs HiDef movies offered.
Try to download the standard def version that will play for sure.
Fortunately Apple lets you download the standard version free (after you've paid extra for the HD version)
When it finishes downloading, I will try it again.
    Oh, it did show up!

  • .Mov files are not playing on my Mac BookPro

As of this week, I am unable to play my .mov files through Quick Time on my Mac Book Pro.  A small windo appears and states that sometype of conversion is occurring and eventually some of my movie files will play.
I am at work creating a .mov file through quick time and the file will not play.

That's a well documented limitation of JavaFX. Mov files are simply not supported.
