Movie is choppy in slow motion...

Hi there,
I'm using iMovie HD for movies from my Canon MiniDV Camcorder. Importing and cutting works fine, quality of movie/sound is ok.
After, I use iDVD to burn DVDs from my own movies, works fine too. My only problem: Slow Motion!
When applying slow motion to a piece of movie, it is very choppy. When burned to DVD and watching it on tv, still the same thing.
I'm using a G4 1700mhz, 1gb Ram. What could my problem be?
Thanks alot for any ideas!
-Lucas

Hi Lucas,
there's a simple technical reason: to get a smooth video, you need 25/30 frames per second, so does your camcorder record the video...
apply a slow-mo just doubles (triples...) the frames - in result, you have 12 or less fps... that is choppy...

Where can I see the movie made with the new option of "slow motion" besides on my iPhone5S screen?

  • My video keeps getting choppy (like slow motion)!!!!

    Hey all,
Whenever I open a different application or try and text chat with another online buddy, the video chat on my side becomes very choppy, as if I am in slow motion. The person Im chatting with says that I later look blurry and pixelated. What should I do? Would downloading the 10.5.3 update fix my issues, or is it a RAM issue

  • IMovie 11 quick time movie is in slow motion. why?

Sharing using Quick Time to make HD movie. Movie comes out in slow motion, but audio sounds okay. Followed online suggestions for settings. Settings are as follows: PLEASE HELP!

You don't say how the file was created for youtube. When you export a video from Flash you have a lot of options available to you. You can change the image area size, the frame rate, you can choose one of many video and audio compressors.
As a start, you should keep the image area and the frame rate the same for the video as it was in the original Flash file. When the Adobe Media Encoder opens, your file will show up in the Queue section with a compressor and a preset selected. You can select the format and change it to anything that you want. Since the default format has given you a poor result, select a different format or customize the existing one. There are many, many, options available. Take a look at the Media Encoder documentation for more information on those options.

  • Slow motion problem publishing from imovie to idvd

The problem is with publishing a film to idvd from imovie. The slow motion clips "glitch up" when viewed on idvd but run smoothly when viewed on imovie. The visual of the slow motion clip pauses as the audio continues. The movie picks up as normal after the slow motion scene ends. There is another point in the movie where a non-slow motion scene does the same thing (visual pauses and audio continues) until the end of the entire movie. The glitch stops before the credits (which is not filmed fottage). How do I fix this?

hmmmm..I would double check the other clips. Other than that I am stumped. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.
Also, once you changed to 25%, you need to re-SHARE the video. (If you haven't already)

  • Help! Movies from iPhone 5 play in slow motion when opened in Quicktime on PC

    Hi there,
I was hoping someone may have the answer or have encountered this problem as well, as I have been unable to find anything on it elsewhere on the net.
I have transferred some movies, taken on my iPhone 5, to my PC. However when they are opened in Quicktime (as recommended) they play in slow motion.
However, the sound still plays at normal speed.
I have already tried going into the QT settings where you can speed up the playback, but this doesn't work either, no matter how fast I set it to - they still play super slow.
Although they are taking up heaps of space, I am worried to delete the movies off the iPhone in case they have not copied over properly and I lose the originals!
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks!

Hi Matthias, thanks for your response!
We are running on Windows XP, is that what you mean? I will try and download the VLC player and see what happens. Are iPhone 5 movies higher res than iPhone 4, as we can play those?
If it is the system, do you know whether or not if I save the movies to our PC, then transfer than to another computer, should they play ok? I just don't want to delete them off my phone and have them permanently slow, iykwim?
Sorry if my ignorance is showing - I'm not overly tech savvy when it comes to this stuff!
    Many thanks again!

  • FCPX choppy slow motion, picture quality and effects

is it just me or does final cut pro x have really bad quality picture. two main things i have noticed in using this software is the slow motion is really choppy even after rendering out with optical flow and there is a lot of vibration in the picture. lines are jumpy and when adding effects it gets much worse, also there are black lines at top and bottom of screen.
i was using edius prior to getting a mac and it was as smooth as butter, slow mo and all. im kinda bummed about the whole final cut thing.  please help.
    thanks.
i dont think it has anything to do with my mac. im running a new imac 3.4ghz i7 quadcore 16gb ram and 2gb grafix card.

yes, those are the properties i use.
so there is somthing wrong with the picture?
    not just me?
is there anyway to import it at 60i?
for some reason it doesnt give me that option..

  • Slow Motion choppy

I've tried to slow down a clip in FCP, and also did a trick with Compressor that's talked about in another discussion on here, and with both attempts, I'm ending up with choppy slow motion. What it's doing is holding on each frame for a period of time (depending on how much it's slowed down), instead of flowing smoothly between the frames and giving a nice slow-mo effect. Rather, it looks like a render job or something, frame by frame, da-da-da-da....and on.
Does anyone have any idea as to why it'd be acting like this? The sequence is set to 29.97 - the footage was captured from a DVcam, firewire, 29.97.
I got the tape from another person who filmed it - there's a chance that it was shot in 24p - could that be the problem? I took the tape and put it in my Sony Handycam to capture the footage. (I think the camera used to record was a Canon - a nicer, higher-end one, but not quite sure if it was 24p).
    Thanks for any help.

I found out that the footage was shot at 24p with a Panasonic AG-DVX100. I was given the tape and captured it with my Sony HandyCam via firewire (hopefully that doesn't cause any problems - so far it looks good when playing back at normal speed).
As far as higher frame rate goes, I am used to doing slo-mo in FCP with footage that I shoot with my Sony cam - at 29.97, and it doesn't behave like this.
When I do the Compressor trick, it looks very similar to slowing it down in FCP, maybe just a little cleaner, but the timing and "pausing on frames" is the same.
If I understand you correctly, I don't believe it was "pre-processed" by de-interlacing, unless that would occur in the way I made the quicktime or something (but I doubt it - I did it as you explained).
    Thanks for all the help.

  • Background Movie becomes slow motion

    Hi everyone,
I've imported a background movie in my Live Type file so that I would know where on the screen and for how long I should place my graphics. However, it turns out that when I play the movie on the canvas, it's in slow motion. Is there a way that I can make the movie run smoothly like the original? I've tried rendering, but it doesn't seem to work...
    Thanks for any advice.

However, it turns out that when I play the movie on the canvas, it's in slow motion. < </div>
Are you saying when you render it's slowed down or is this what you're seeing wile editing your LT tracks? What happens if you do a RAM preview render so the timeline turns green?

  • Compressing .mov to mp4 comes out in Slow Motion!

I have Compressor version 3.5.3 but I don't think that's what the problem is.  I'm trying to compress an 11GB Quicktime file down to a couple of GB.
    It's a PAL .mov file, 1920x1080, 25fps, 48000kHz/16.
These are the Settings I chose :
    Video: Encoder MPEG4, 1920x1080, 25fps,
Key Frame interval:  I change 15 to 25.  Is that wrong?
    Bit rate: medium VBR
Audio:  Mono because Stereo greyed out 48000kHz.
Bit rate 64kbps is what comes up with 48000kHz.  (When I changed it to 16bit it brought 22000kHz)
Frame Controls Option is off.  Is that correct?
The result was a clip in Slow Motion Video and Audio alike.
What did I do wrong?  Is there an incompatibility somewhere?  I'd be most grateful for any suggestion.  Thank you,

Hello Russ, these are the 3 Inspector screenshots you requested:
    1)  Inspector for the Quicktime file to be compressed:
    2)  Inspector Summary 1
    3)  Inspector Summary 2
    4)  Inspector Encoder 1
    5)  Inspector Encoder 2
That's how I ended up with slow motion in the converted mp4 file.  What do you make of it?
Many thanks in advance for any light you could throw on this.

  • Slow motion 50% export H.264 MOV (at half frame rate)

    Hi,
I'm using a QuickTime MOV file (H.264, 1080p/59.94fps, 15 seconds) and have set slow motion to 50% (= 30 seconds).
Can anyone confirm that when I export this clip to 29.97fps I won't lose frames?
I have Compressor and think I found nearly all required settings except:
    - Key frames - shall I use automatic or 24 or what? (How can I find out what the original key frame value was?)
    - Frame reordering - shall I uncheck this option? (What does it mean? It's not in the manual.)
    Many thanks!

If you want to make absolutely sure you won't lose frames, you should manually set a project to 29.97fps, import your 60/59.94fps and conform the video (Retime menu > Conform Speed [the retime menu is the 2nd one from the left over the effects browser area/under the inspector area]). FCPX will automatically frame for frame adjust the video to fit to the slower frame rate.
Key frames (video compression, not animation):  a key frame is a complete image -- 100% pixels in use. Every frame between the key frames are only the parts of the image that change from the last frame (like Cel animation). Setting Automatic allows the software to make the best choices of when and where to create a complete frame. Otherwise, you can experiment with different values (up to All, which is pretty much no compression) to see what kinds of results you get and the overall quality (use very short pieces, like 5 -10 seconds.)  High motion areas in video are always going to be the most challenging with respect to compression (particularly bitrate), so... it's worth figuring out what settings you like that will give the best results (and 5-10second clips don't take that long to render.) I generally use Automatic and adjust the bitrates to give the best overall results (which occasionally requires testing segments.)
Frame reordering:  allows applications to "decompress" video frames in a different order than they are played, thereby allowing those apps that understand it a way to work faster. Larry Jordan suggests that this setting always be set for H.264 video (although I don't if I'm uploading to YouTube -- I try not to give YouTube any excuses for recompressing my video, so I try to have it already optimized before uploading... so far, it seems to be working.)

  • Videos are importing into AfterEffects in choppy slow motion?

I am trying to make my first commercial. I used a cannon camera to shoot alot of footage.
When I watch the ".mov" file in quicktime it plays perfectly fine. However when I try to import into After Effects and hit play the video is in slow motion and is very choopy? I cant figure this out to save my life and this is a project for school! I have tried changing the settings to "hdtv1080 24" and it still is not working?
Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong??

Um, it sounds like you're doing just about everything wrong.  With AE, you need to walk before you run, you have to know the basics before you can do ANYTHING of substance, and it appears you don't have the time to learn the basics.  And no, there aren't any hard-and-fast answers to a situation where you need just a couple of simple things.  What you think could be simple may not be in AE terms.
Do you even NEED to use AE?   Why can't you use a video editing application, which is far easier to figure out?

  • Premiere "instant movie" with slow motion 60fps

I'm recording at 60fps and using Premiere Pro. Is there any way to use a feature like the "Instant Movie" in premiere elements and have it either create the whole movie in slow motion or at least clips in slow motion?

I just searched the user guide PDF and did not find "instant movie"

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
