Movie made in iMovie HD 6  can't burn DVD as is

I have edited and titled and added stills with Ken Burns effect and the movie previews exactly as I want my DVD to play. I exported to iDVD and it asks me to start all over with chapters and titles and all that. I just want to burn my DVD from exactly what I put together on iMovie HD 6. Please help

How to create a DVD without menu (there are several options):
1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
3. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
4. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
• create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
• Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
• Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
• Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
• Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
• Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
• Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

hope this helps!

iCab indeed does allow for that

  • Is there a way to transfer od movies made on Imovie 2 to Imovie HD?

is there a way to transfer od movies made on Imovie 2 to Imovie HD?

The QuickTime movie Silly Rabbit mentioned is an easy way to import an old project to iMovie 6, but unfortunately that feature wasn't added until iMovie 3. There's no such movie in iMovie 2 to import.
If you have iMovie 2 on this computer, a very reliable way to bring the project into iMovie 6 is to export it from iMovie 2 to your video camera, then import from the camera to a new iMovie 6 project. The clips will arrive as clips, but they won't be editable as before. You won't be able to edit titles, for example.
The easiest way — when it works — is to simply open (a copy of) the iMovie 2 project in iMovie 6. iMovie 6 will offer to convert it. It usually converts without a hitch, unless your iMovie 2 project has non-standard iMovie 2 features like third-party titles, transitions and special effects. iMovie 6 may have trouble with those. You can't go back, so convert a COPY, not the original.
I'd try the conversion first. If it works, you're home free. Keep the iMovie 2 project around until you're sure.
Suggestion: please provide a bit more information in your user profile. "IMAC" doesn't tell us much, there are so many different models.

  • What app should I get to burn home movies made in iMovie

I was surprised to find my new mac book pro doesn't include the ability to burn a dvd from iMovie.  What app should I get to burn home movies made in iMovie.

I have Burn, it is a poor substitute for iDVD.
There is NO alternative.   But iDVD is very easy to get.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753
    800-275-2273
If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.
Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

FC/e is based upon the Quicktime-engine; so, on 'Export using QT', you'll get all codecs & settings.
    but which one..
due to sheer popularity, YouTube became a 'standard' - I'm happy with the convenience, YT and the 'embed'-code offers - excellent quality, automatic adjusted to the watchers connection&hardware.
    my export settings are 720p, h264, 6MBit/sec - gives a - imho! - superb quality.
(example of a 'screen-test' from my latest project CLICK )
for creating so-called 'flash video'/.flv, you need 3rd party apps.
Sorenson Squeeze is more of an pro-tool, .. you need some background knowledge to get noticeable 'better' quality.
.. and the question is: are you willing to pay $.$$$ for that 0.x% more quality .. ? does your source offers such a 101% quality, which needs such affords?
if bandwidth is an issue, because you're hosting on your own servers, consider the free codec xh264, you can install as a free QT-plug-in.. with low or super-low bitrates, it offers a superior quality compared to h264 ...

  • STILL can't burn DVDs on Mac OS 10.6.5 after trying everything

    Hi there.
Ever since I've updated to 10.6.5, I can't burn DVDs, doesn't matter which brand or what software I use. however, I am able to burn CDs. I went to my local Apple Store and they booted OS 10.6.3 on my computer via firewire and what d'you know ? it burnt a dvd right away. this is clearly an issue with the latest update. I did as they said, reseted my PRAM and even re-installed the latest update (I downloaded the 10.6.5 combo version from Apple Support).
Is anyone experiencing the same ? I know a lot of people had the same issue couple of weeks ago. did anyone successfully overcome it ?
    cheers.

This is an older post from the Roxio Community (http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/39824-toast-burns-cd-but-not-dvd-on-mac/); but seems like similar problem - maybe worth a try:
Either something is preventing the data from being sent to the drive's DVD-writing laser or the drive's laser is failing to start writing the disc. The only thing you can do with Toast is trash the plist and prefs files in the User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast. You might get a laser-cleaning disc for your drive. (A different laser is used to write CDs than is used to write DVDs). Also try choosing Save as Disc Image with Toast and burn the resulting disc image using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window.
Note that the laser cleaning idea was also mentioned in the previous link provided. Have you tied that? - would be nice if a simple solution worked.

  • I can't burn DVD's on DVD Studio Pro since I install Snow Leopard

Well, my computer was working great, I had tiger installed and I decided to update to snow leopard and "big mistake" since then I haven't been able to burn DVD's from DVD Studio Pro, at the time to start writing the information to burn it, it shows a message saying " the recording device reported the error #6. Unknown device error. I connected and external dvd burner and when is time to burn it says "The recording device reported the illegal request. Unknown device.
I can easily burn DVD's from iDVD what makes me believe the problem is not with the burner. I went to Melrose Mac and they told me there is a conflict between FCS and Snow Leopard, they suggested to install Leopard instead, he mention many people has complain about the same issue Can that be possible? I got something thinking my computer was going to work better and I screwed it up!

Did you also upgrade DVD Studio Pro?

  • Can iTunes burn DVDs into our idevices?

Since burn CDs is a piece of cake but can iTunes burn DVDs into our idevices.

I haven't tried to convert DVDs to iPod yet (had it for a week) but in the past I tried to convert DVDs to my PocketPC handheld using many tools and found that there is no quick, easy and trouble-free way to do it. The fact that Apple chose to use specific (proprietary) video codecs does not help. You have to get your hands dirty, learn a lot about video, codecs, bitrates and so on. It was more time and energy than I was willing to spend. I may give it another try though. I bought the Apple AV cable to view video on TV and it'd be a shame to not use it.
You may find some tutorials and other conversion tools at this website: www.dvdrhelp.com, they also have discussion forums. (hope it's ok to post this link)

  • Can't burn DVD

    Dear,
I can't burn DVD +R with my macbook pro. Bought verbatim, sony, fujifilm dvd's nothing works.
An error shows up in toast something like this:
Sense Key = Medium Error sense Code = 0x73, 0x03
    Kind regards,

I don't burn dvd's very often, so the challenge is to remember when I do.
Just remember that a disk image is like a "virtual disc", so you want to make Copy using the Image File.

  • I can not burn dvds anylonger with my MacPro. Why ?

Hi everyone. I already posted this message in another thread but got no useful replies.
Configuration: MacPro Early 2008, MacOSX 10.6.8
I can not burn dvds anymore and do not know why. I can play dvds and cds though!
The following is the usual error message displaying after clicking the button burn :
I have run Disk Utility from the Install cd of Snow Leopard and the small things which needed repairs have been repaired.
I have reset the PRAM and the SMC (System Management Controller). Nothing.
I have set up a new user account with admin privileges but it did not work.
Please, note that I am trying to burn the same Kodak Pro dvds for photo and data archival that I burned in the past in the same MacPro.
I am actually burning my dvds using my MacBook Pro connected with my MacPro through Airport but it's a very slow process, of course.
    Any piece of advice ?
    Thank you !
    Paolo
