Movie made of digital stills

Hello.
I know...I've read all the threads..... PLEASE, PLEASE –SOMEBODY HELP ME! I'm making a film which is made up entirely of digital stills (JPEGS and we're talking thousands upon thousands) Some are slathered with effects, others are not. Most have a dissolve between them. Simply put, I can't get my movie to look good on a DVD. I think I've tried it all, at least everything that seemed applicable here. Is there a straightforward answer to this question: Can you get a crisp, smooth output of a movie that's made of digital photographs? If so, what do I need to do to these photos to make them look as good, or at least nearly as good, as they do outside of FCP?

You HAVE to check them on an external video monitor from within fcp to get any idea of what they'll look like playing from a dvd on a video monitor. No way to get around it. Do you have a DV camera with a firewire connection. You should be able to monitor thru it to a television.
Worstcase scenario bring your fcp project and all the media on a firewire drive into my office in midtown and I'll show you what I'm talking about. Shouldn't take long to show you. (I'm assuming Brooklyn means Brooklyn, NYC).

Casio EX-F1 Digital Still/Video Camera... Importing etc...

Not really sure if this question belongs here but trying to find some info on importing files from this camera. I have a new digital still/movie camera... Casio EX-F1 and my HD clips, especially my 1080i clips don't seem to work... Any suggestions, would be much appreciated!
This is a little info on what the camera uses, but seems like the 1080 files just come up with a blank green screen..

This camera records movies in MOV in H.264/AVC.
This means that the file format is MOV and the compression method is H.264/AVC. The compression method also can be referred to as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC.

MOV is the QT "generic" file container. It can hold any QT compression format, as well as, third-party proprietary compression formats like DivX or WMV 9 or playback only compression formats like MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. MP4 File containers are more specific in that they can only contain MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC content, open in the QT Player by default and share most of the same capabilities (such as external "artwork") as the M4V file container which open in iTunes by default and is associated with H.264/AAC content.
This camera records movies in MOV in H.264/AVC. This means that the file format is MOV and the compression method is H.264/AVC. The compression method also can be referred to as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC.
What you fail to realize or mention is the fact that it audio is not AAC here. If I remember correctly the, it uses an IMA adaptive PCM (ADPCM) compression format instead of the older DVI ADPCM associated with the M-JPEG SD video format in the AVI file container.

For iMovie '08 to allow import, both the video and audio compression formats must be "edit" compatible. As "hinted" above adaptive PCM is not edit compatible with iMovie '08. It is, however, "conversion compatible" compatible and can, therefore, easily be made iMovie '08 compatible. This means that almost any converter (even QT converters like iMovie HD, iTunes, QT Pro, as well as, third party converters, can convert these files for use in iMovie '08. My recommendation would be to use QT Pro (if you have it) to access the "Movie to MPEG-4" export option to "Pass Through" the H.264 video content while converting only the audio component to AAC-LC (Music) at 64 or 80 Kbps/channel and re-sample to either 44.1 or 48.0 KHz.

Can I back up the organizer, move my photos and still access them in PSE?

I backed up my catalog to an external HD last night and there were about 20 disconnected files. I was not able to locate them so I allowed the back up to continue without them. Do you know what the consequences are for that?
Also, several of my photos are on my C drive and several are on the external HD. My catalog included photos from both places. When I move the rest of my photos from the C drive of my computer to the external HD will the catalog still be able to access them or will I need to back everything up again?
My goal is to free up space on my computer so PSE will stop freezing up. All I'm intersted in doing right now is getting all of my photos into the organizer and tagged. I'll edit them later as I begin to create digital scrapbook pages.
Can someone tell me if the way I'm going about this is correct?

Thank you Ken. I backed up everything to my external HD, but now I think I'd rather just move everything there and recall my photos from the ext HD to free up space on my C drive. Is that possible?

When you use PSE to back up your catalog, the actual photos as well as the catalog (database) are backed up. When you restore from a backup, you can specify where the incoming photos will be placed. Ken

How to move a Preview digital signature?

I made a digital signature in Preview to use to sign pdfs. I did this on my Air because that has a camera (you have to take a picture of your signature). I want to move this digital signature I made on the Air to Preview on my Mac mini (where I don't have a camera) so I can use it there, too. I don't see an obvious way to do it. I tried copying pref files over and that didn't work. Any ideas about how I can do it?

Thanks Linc, that worked perfectly. It's pretty tortuous for a non-techie like me, but follow it carefully and it does work - though I'd recommend looking at the comments underneath, because there's a bit of trickery to get the Preview Signature Privacy to show up (or at least there was for me). I am now busily digitally-signing every pdf I can find. No doubt the novelty will wear off eventually.

How to open movie made in 8.0 in 6.0?

so, i've made a movie in imovie 8.0. only thing is there are no effects in 8.0, so after reading posts on this message board, i tried to open it up in version 6.0, which still has all of the effect capabilities. But my movie is grayed out! Won't open in 6! What's up?

you can not open projects, but movies made with iM08 in iMHD6 ...
in iM08:
choose 'Export with quicktime.. ' and choose dv-stream as codec..
you can now import that into iMHD6..
same procedure to transfer from iMHD6 >> iM08.. (choose 'FullQuality' as Export Option in iMHD6)

AVI's (10bit) made with Digital Rapids say 'Media Pending' and never play on PC

I am running all 3 versions of Premiere Pro on our work PC (CS6, CC, and CC2014). We use this system to edit AVI's made with
Digital Rapids Stream 3.7.47. Before, we could load any AVI and it would read 'Media Pending' for a few seconds then load right up.
Now, it sits on the yellow screen and never loads. I've tried 6 or 7 different AVI's and none worked in any of the 3 versions of Premiere. The only glimmer
of hope was one loaded on After Effects CC2014, but that's it.
So, I should also mention these are 10 bit AVI's. I HAVE been able to load 8 bit AVI's but the 10 bit are all problematic in Premiere.
Please help... Deadlines approaching...

DustinMedlam, I have the same exact problem. I started using my Iphone 4S for shooting video about 2 months ago and tranferred them to my Windows machine with Windows 7. I use the clips in Sony Vegas pro 11 and make short movies. I upgraded to ios 6 last week and every video that I shoot with my iphone 4S now is not usable in Quictime or Sony Vegas???? My old videos from before ios 6 play just fine and I can use them in Sony Vegas with no problems. The only way to play the files is with Windows media player. this does me no good as I just began making short films and now I can not use any of the video I have shot since ios 6. I also have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I shoot video with it and use the clips in Sony Vegas with no issues!?? I can not believe this is not BLOWING up on the internet like the WIFI issue is..... What do we do? All my video gear is for my Iphone not my galaxy S2. This is very annoying. I also notice that no one from Apple response to these support forums. So why are they available?? What a JOKE!

I was surprised to find my new mac book pro doesn't include the ability to burn a dvd from iMovie. What app should I get to burn home movies made in iMovie.

I have Burn, it is a poor substitute for iDVD.
There is NO alternative.   But iDVD is very easy to get.

I have exported movies from old digital camera - how do I ensure it goes into the correct year (eg. 2005) Thank You

Some exported movies from old digital have gone into the incorrect year. How can I move them around into the correct year or at the very least move them in the current year but in chronological order eg under 2011 I have listed them as 2004 - blah blah, 2005 blah blah but they are "all over the place". Thank You

There are two ways to do this.
The simplest is to right-click on the clip in the Event and modify the date.

If you have a long clip that you would like to split into smaller clips, there is another way. You can drag the long clip into a free tool called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. In MPEG Streamclip, put your playhead on the in point of your first smaller clip and type I. Then set the playhead on the out point of your first smaller clip, and press O to set the out point. Then FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. If your clip is DV, As you save the clip, rename it in the form clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext, where the word "clip" must be lower case. YYYY is year. hh is hours in 24 hour time. Then repeat this process until you have all your smaller clips made. Finally, you can import all these clips into an iMovie Event using FILE/IMPORT MOVIES.

Movies made on iPhone not supported by Apple TV

Although I love Apple products because of their ease of use, I never figured out why it's so hard to get movies made with my iPhone on an Apple TV. This should be so easy and it's working horribly, even with the new Photos app. I use my Apple TV a lot for watching home movies and photos, which is logical, since it's a device for showing sound and vision.
This is how I work around it. I make movies on my iPhone. Import them in Photos (before in iPhoto). Then I have to export them to the Finder. Import them in iTunes. Rename them. Then it still doesn't work on Apple TV, because Apple TV doesn't play the iPhone format (!!!), which is pretty ridiculous. It does stream them though. So, in iTunes I have to convert them to iPad compatible format. Only then they show up on my Apple TV.
Why haven't they still made this easier? All my photos and movies are imported in Photos. After importing them they should be available on my Apple TV without any extra fuss. I'm surprised that in the 'Computers'-tab there's music (which is only sound!) and film, but not photos. Why not? The home movies that are shown are only the ones that are in iTunes. Not the ones in Photos.
Anyway, I hope I made my point that Apple didn't really think this through.

"Digital Still Camera" not installing in XP Pro (IPhone 4 Os 4.2)

This is what is happening to me. the PC is on and I have3 the Itunes on the screen but as soon as I plug in my iPad my PC seems to think that it is a digital still camera and emediatly starts suting down as it seems to think the iPad(digital camera) is going to harm my PC. PC will not go anyfurther than a warning screen and I have to then shut it down unplug the iPad and start again. HELP please

TS1702 I tried to download the upgrade, now it won't install and I can not access my documents. It said Vi did not have enough space for the upgrade so I made room but still no luck.

What upgrade are you trying to install? Your profile shows iOS 5.1.1, which is the current max iOS.

PC shuts off when Ipod Touch is connected. Detects "Digital Still Camera"

My Ipod Touch was working fine until today. I plugged it into my PC and then it detects it as a "digital still camera". Then after a few seconds my PC will completely shut down.
The weird thing is that once it restarts with the Ipod connected already it will detect it as an Ipod and Itunes will open and everything normally. If I then disconnect it and connect it again, it will be detected as a camera again and again shut down.
I've looked all over the inter for solutions. Most of them involve updating the driver. But I cannot update the driver unless the device is connected. And when the device is connected as a "digital still camera" it will shut down my computer.
I tried booting in safe mode and then connecting the Ipod Touch and it worked fine. It detected it as an Ipod and everything worked fine. My plan was to boot in safe mode and then update the driver but I couldn't because it detected it normally.
I would normally try turning off some services to see if something it bothering it but I don't want to ruin my computer by consistently shutting it down unexpectingly and giving me errors each time it reboots.
I've seen other people online with this problem but none with a solution. I would really appreciate some help. Thank you

Mine is doing the same thing,I got it 2 days ago worked fine but today everytime i plug in the desk top it will shut it down. I plug it to my lap top it worked but i'm affraid that it will do the same thing again after a while. I have a feeling that there is some problem with itunes, if my computer is the problem why did it work fine at the begining.When I uninstalled the itunes and plug the ipod it starts charging but the computer did not shut down. I did some research and it seems that a lot of people having the same problem.

IPad Photo Transfer: Windows Vista Digital Still Camera Driver Failed

Hi,
I am trying to transfer photos from my iPad to my laptop. When I plug it in to the laptop the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver installs successfully and the Digital Still Camera driver fails. I have previously transferred photos in this way without any problem. When I plug the iPad in to the laptop it does not show up in 'my computer', the iPad is on and the screen is unlocked. Autoplay is on but no menu appears to transfer the photos. The photos I want to transfer have been taken on the iPad. It shows up in iTunes as normal. I can transfer photos from my iPhone to the laptop without a problem.
This is what I've tried:
- uninstall iTunes and reinstall
- restart the computer
- turn iPad on and off
- uninstall and reinstall apple device driver (even though it was up to date and said to be working as usual)
- plugged it in to an old laptop (windows xp) and it worked as expected
- checked for usbappl.syn in C:\Windows\system32\drivers and it is present
- uninstalled all Apple content from my laptop and reinstalled it all again
- repaired the Apple Mobile Device Support program
Any help would be much appreciated, it is driving me crazy!

I've had similar problem with my Iphone 8gb 1.1.2 OTB and Windows Vista right from when i purchased it. I tried calling Apple support and tried out all the things that you've done so far and got fed up with it. Now I download my pictures using a third party software called TouchCopy. Apple was not able to identify the issue but it certainly an issue with the OS and not the Iphone. It works like a breeze with my Windows XP PC at home but my laptop doesn't recognize it and it just gives "device installation failed". But curiously for sometime like 15 days ago, the device driver got installed but still I didn't get the camera icon in MY Computer... So if somebody could help... great!!!
And Hail Vista because I've had several driver issues like these and my antivirus is OneCare so I don't think Microsoft could complain about my installations.
