Movie maker black preview screen

Hi.
I am having problems with windows movie maker, I can add pics and movies into WMM but the preview screen is black, the sound works fine.(I can see the pictures to the right of the preview screen) I have trawled google for fixes and lots seem to point to the Video Graphics driver being at fault. I have checked and updated the drivers for latest version using dxdiag. I have uninstalled and re-installed the WMM, I am now at a loss of what else it could be, any one else come across this problem?

I've had the issue with the black screen in Movie Maker. I have Windows 7 operating system and a Radeon graphics card.
I followed the advice about uninstalling Movie Maker 2012 and installing Movie Maker 2011 but this didnt work.
I have tried file conversion, so the videos i converted to .avi but this didnt work either, so i reinstalled the 2012 version after Windows advised the 2011 system is for Vista etc.
Ive also tried checking for driver updates on my graphics card, but all my drivers have come back up to date.
I also configured the switchable graphics option, as some suggested, so movie maker is operating in high performance mode.
I also tried another piece of random advice on Youtube of saving the video to my desktop and then opening it from there with Movie maker. but that didnt work either.
My videos place on VCL recorder and windows media player, but i am completely out of options of why the black screen on the movie maker. As others have reported, the sound is fine, just not the video in the preview screen whilst it is playing.
Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Im not great with computers, but my searching doesnt appear to have any other options.

Using Warp Stabilizer results in a black preview screen.

I have been trying continuously for the past two days to get Warp Stabilizer to work. It actually did work once, so I know it can. But mostly all I get after it has gone through the procedure is a black preview screen. Or no result, not seeming change at all, even though it has gone through all the steps! This is happening when I have selected the "No Motion" result, the "Smooth Motion" result seems easier to achieve.
I need something finished, and I am at my wits end. I have tried making the test bits shorter and shorter, because I saw on another forum a suggestion the the power of - or available space on - the pc might be the problem. But my laptop should be strong enough, it has been able to handle everything else I have thrown at it over the pas couple of years.

I tried Warp Stabilizer but, now I ma working with ProDAD Mercally V2. The problem I had were : freezing of Premiere Pro and "paste" of the video which followed the mouse.

Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums. So that I can provide you with the best possible assistance here I am going to need a little more information.
So you say Movie Maker give you a black screen on play back.
First here is a link I would like you to go to and check out. Please post back with as much information as you can. Do not post your serial number.
Advice for asking the "Very Best Question"
Other things you can post back with is.
1) What type of file are you trying to play back. ( .avi, .mpg, wmv, .ogv.)
2) Have you used other media players that have built in codecs to play different video types.
( VLC media play it is free to download. Quicktime from apple. Windows Media player. Realplayer.)
3) Have you saved this file and tried to play it on other systems. If it plays black on other computers then you have a corrupt video file.
Please try a few things and let me know what you tried to do to solve this issue.

Do other videos have problems on your system. If yes you could have an issue with the notebook. If no you are looking at a software issue or an actual issue with the file itself.

When you post back could you provide key system information as well. What is your product number and what Version of Operating System are you running. For example Is it Windows 7 home or pro or ultimate. What updates or service packs have been installed.

Whenever I try to use iMovie, the preview screen is blank. I can't make movies because I cant see what I'm doing and even if I press export, the video that I try to watch is blank. I can hear audio when my cursor skims over the clip yet no video is seen. Even if I try to watch in full screen nothing but audio plays. I also cant open iMovie projects from other computers. I feel like I just wasted $15 on something that has no use! PLEASE HELP!

Went to turn camera on to a black preview screen

Can take picture and preview it. But when it get ready to take another picture all you see is a black screen . Shut it off and restart sometimes everything

Premiere Pro CS6 black preview screen

So I just installed Premiere Pro CS6 on my laptop and when I try to play the timeline I can hear sound but no video plays. I don't think it is a codec issue as the video appears in the project panel.

Showing movie artwork in videos preview screen

Is there anyway to set frontrow so it shows the movie dvd cover rather than actually start showing the movie in the preview screen. seems to make more sense than showing the opening credits to each movie that start to look the same. any help would be great, thanks.

I am also having the same problem. I deleted the movie from iTunes but kept the file so I could add it to the library again, but it still comes up with the artwork I no longer want! Please could someone try and solve this?

I understand that your desktop computer is not able to display a visual on the monitor screen. Are you able to get a visual on your monitor screen when you first boot into Windows? Does the black screen occur if you boot your system in Safe Mode, and then launch the program? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. I imported over 4000 hi-res images into imovie. Preview screen is black.

I just imported 4774 images with dimensions of 3264 × 1832 (pretty huge, I know). After the 3.5 hours it took to import, the preview screen was dark, and only about 1/3 of the image thumbnails worked (the first third). I moved on anyway, and made all of the images .1 seconds long (it's for a time lapse if you hadn't guessed). So I exported the movie, and the final .mov file was still black. Did I break iMovie? My computer has 8gb of ram and is running on a SSD, so I don't think my computer is the problem.
Any suggestions?

Did you by any chance upgrade your Mac OS from version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to 10.7 (Lion) during the time you were working in iMovie on all these projects?
If not, start by deleting the iMovie Preferences file.
Go to the Desktop
Hold down the Option key and choose the Go Menu > Library
Go to Preferences > com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
Move the .plist file to the trash and restart iMovie
See if the Project files react any differently. Failing that try doing a Repair Disk Permissions:
Restart the Mac, hold down the Option key continuously until 2 hard drive icons appear
Choose the Recovery Volume as your startup disk and let it run until you see the Desktop
Choose Disk Utility from the Recovery Menu
Run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility
Reboot the Mac and when you see the Desktop appear launch iMovie
See if the Project files are the same or different. Next step after this is to one at a time take the Project folders out of users/me/movies/imovie projects. Move one to the desktop and start iMovie. Try skimming the projects that acted up recently. Moving one project at a time might help isolate which project may be causing problems. You can also place project folders back in their original location after doing this testing and iMovie will recognize them on the next relaunch. It won't hurt anything.

Microsoft movie maker preview box

I have been having a problem with all of my video editing software but microsoft movie maker in particular where I can hear the footage being played but it does not get displayed in the preview box. It is a blank screen. I ordered my laptop in 2012 so

Did this issue occur recently ? Have you update your graphic drivers? What`s the format of the video you edited?
1.To update the graphic driver, you may need to download the driver from the graphic manufacturer website.
2.The video codecs of this machine may have suffered a corruption. I recommend you to try the Microsoft “Fix it” to have a repair.

3.The format of the video you edited may not be supported by the Movie Maker, I recommend you to convert the video into .wmv format to have a try. The .wmv format works very well in Movie Maker.

Preview Screen Black on iDVD

I have just installed Leopard and iLife (with iDVD). Everything is great EXCEPT when I get ready to create a DVD, the preview screen is and stays black. I know there is some little hidden button that I need to click, but I ain't found it yet. Can anybody suggest something?

May be far fetched but. As I remember it naming of a movie project can cause problems.
I just save it to desktop as QuickTime (No conversion, No self-contained)
Then without any re-naming just import or drop this into iDVD.
Here You get the name on it's menu and Here You can alter the name to eg "Play it"
or whatever.
When I tamperede with this I got results with movie but lacking the sound-part
though the name/reference didn't match any longer after re-naming in DeskTop.

Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). All of these options allow you to open, edit, and save Word-formatted documents and spreadsheets. I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.
