Movie Motion Template into iMovie 11

Is there a way to bring a template I made in Motion 5 into iMovie 11?

Easiest way is to do this in eyeTV.
Use the EyeTV export menu to export to iMovie 09.
Alternatively you could export from EyeTV in Apple Intermediate Codec or h.264.
If you want to use Handbrake for some reason , make sure it is not including extra tracks like a closed captioning track or a chapter track. iMovie will not import these.

'enhancement request', ask for an API for 3rd party developers, add-ons, plug-ins, 'themes', 'jam packs'.
    especially the AppStore would do marvel ... imagine a 2.99$ wedding-theme download, a 0.79$ baseball-score-title, some 1.99$ Halloween blood transition ..............

  • How to import 150 .mov (quicktime) clips into iMovie '11?

    Hello,
Newbie to iMovie and having some trouble.  My wedding videographer took off with my wedding footage (and the footage of 100 other couples.)  Through the police and some of my own detective work, I was able to seize my wedding footage and have it on an external hard drive.  I have already spent thousands of dollars trying to recoup my footage and now that I finally have it, I don't have the extra money to have it made into an actual movie/dvd.
All of the more than 150 clips are in .mov format and I am unable to import them into iMovie that way.  Any ideas on how to convert that many HD clips into a file that iMovie will recognize without losing video quality & sound?
    For tech info:
    iMac 10.8.3
    iMovie '11
    Clip Info:
    Dimensions: 1920x1080
    Codecs: H.264, Linear PCM
    Color Profile: 1-1-6
    Audio Channels: 2
Thanks for your help!  This community is a great amazing resource and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to offer suggestions.
    Katie

I did it!  I realized after 2 hours of it not working, that I was doing it 1 step wrong.  I was trying to import the actual file with all the clips, rather than just the clips themselves...  Silly error, and the import of .mov files into iMovie was seemelss..  Quality is great and didn't take long.  Thanks again.

  • Existing movies not transferring into iMovie

I have several hundred video clips and stills from vacations that fill my iTunes library. I want to compile several projects for past vacations. I cannot seem to get my videos, which appear in iTunes, under "Videos" on my iPad, and on AppleTV, to populate in the video tab of iMovie. The needed files are in .m4v format. How can I import them into iMovie? Must they be converted to .mov files first?
    Thanks for the help
    Ken

I'm glad you've found a way to get the video into the iPad that works for iMovie.
Seems like a lot of effort just to edit on a basic hack and slash edit program.
And although I get what your saying, I think your missing what iOS is aimed at.
    iPads are not computer replacements.
They have never been aimed at that.
You need a computer to sync, back up, and maintain an iPad.
They are great at what they do, but you can't expect them to be a total laptop or desktop replacement.
Also, iMovie iOS is made to shoot, cut, and run.
What your talking about is best done on a desktop machine that has room to fit two years worth of videos.
As soon as you want to edit more precisely rather then hack edit then iMovie iOS is not enough.
I can recommend a few good iOS editors that are made to edit longer and better videos.
    iMovie is not that program.
And I too believe that over time as the iPads have more space, they will ultimately be a computer replacement.
My wish list would be to have access to my iPhoto library from a desktop computer that I can edit live over wireless (n routers are fast enough).
I do tell Apple my ideas, and hope they will come to light.
So please tell Apple what you want:

  • Home movies on DVD into iMovie for editing?

I've had home movie video cassettes transferred onto DVD professionally and want to move them into iMovie so I can do edits and create new movies. The DVDs play fine but I can't figure out how to get them into iMovie so I can manipulate

As Peter Joshua stated, Instant Handbrake will do the job and it is free, but you will have to check the settings to conserve the original quality because HandBrake is made to convert for iPod and will condense the movie. I have an app called Cinematize Pro, which is a perfect app for doing this. It is not free but conserves the full quality of the video and allows you to convert selected chapters or clips and not the whole DVD content.

  • Importing movies-- iPhoto or into iMovie???

I am a bit confused on which way is the best way....
Importing my movies into iPhoto and then into iMovie, which it seems to do on its own whenever you launch iMovie....
    or
Importing directly into iMovie and not have anything imported into iPhoto...
Why is one better than the other, in your opinion??? And, if you do option 1, does it have two copies on your hard drive or is it only a reference address from iMovie to the location in iPhoto???

bumpage - I am a new mac user and a prior MS enthusiast, builder, fixer. So I know my way around 'puters. And I'm loving the switch to Macintosh (that's what it was called when I was a kid). Everything's easier, and streamlined. But I'm having the same problem. I think (but am not sure) that I've had videos imported in both iPhoto and iMovie 11's even though I try hard as I can to not get dupes and I'm positive now I have 2 copies of half of the videos I imported from my iPhone4. I don't care how many thumbnails there are, or will be made, or where they are, or where they can be viewed... but I only want ONE original .MOV file.
What's the fastest way to find and eliminate these (or any dupes) on my MBP (or Snow Leopard/iLife'11)? Do it somehow through iMovie and iPhoto, or do through finder? I know I said I can put together a non-Mac PC blindfolded and drunk, but I'm still learning, albeit fast, how Mac's operate.
Can you believe I got it in November and I'm still getting used to "mounting" disc images, etc.?
Anywho...any help y'all could provide would be much appreciated. I just started deleting what I thought were dupes in iPhoto's root (master) subfolders because I was sure I always imported into iMovie first and got ALL of them every time (before firing up iPhoto to import pics), but then I spot-checked some of the .MOV's that I just dropped in the TRASH (searched for them elsewhere on my MBP - assuming they'd show up in the iMovie library folder/subfolder system) and found they only resided in the iPhoto libary folder system. Thankfully I just "PUT BACK" all of them until I can figure out a logical, efficient way to do this both retro-actively as well as going forward. I almost lost precious, precious memories of my 6-year-old little girl. I just want to get this right.
Because apparently the method(s) I'm employing are no good.
But I don't think it's all me. I mean why can't Apple just make it so that iPhoto imports ONLY photos, and iMovie imports ONLY movie clips???? Is that too much to ask? I mean you could still pull in thumbnails and add movie clips to a slideshow in iPhoto; or pull in pictures to use in a video project you are making, but how can the neat and tidiness of Mac-dom be so easily cluttered, especially by a conscientious user like myself who is being super extra careful and methodical -afraid of missteps everywhere [given that I'm extra wary while learning the advantages and pitfalls of Macs].
Not to mention...iPhoto (before an apparent recent update), would show the .MOV thumbnails in the "Import" dialog that shows when I plug in my iPhone, and would even have them selected, but would skip importing them (logically, if I'm in iPhoto, why tf would I want to import movies?) Now all the sudden I say import all and it actually does.
Give me a break here. I thought I was done picking peoples' brains on 'boards when I got a Mac. Hopefully this is my only gripe for the next year.
    Thanks for listening/reading. Much Obliged.

  • Can't import movies from photobooth into imovie

In iMovie 11 (v9.0.4), our network users are unable to import movies from the isight camera. (File, Import from Camera).  As soon as you click on "capture", then use the default event name, you get an error:
"You may not have permissions to write to /Network/Servers/rbserver.lan/SERVER_USERDATA/iMovie Events.localized."
I've tried creating this directory on the local machine, per this suggestion:  http://lists.apple.com/archives/macos-x-server/2010/Apr/msg00305.html but to no avail...
Do you know how to fix this problem?

I can't help you with your server question, but here is how I move and import video clips from Photo Booth into iMovie over my LAN:
    (1) Use the Photo Booth > File > Export menu command
to create the actual clip I will move.
    (2) Quit Photo Booth.
    (3) File transfer the exported Photo Booth clip to the Mac that will do the iMovie work.
    (4) Use the iMovie > File > Import > Movies... menu command
to import the clip into iMovie.
    (5) Clean up (throw away) unneeded clips on both Macs.

  • How do I import an old home movie on DVD into iMovie with video_ts content and .vob files

Hi, as a new mac user I would appreciate any help to use imovie to import an old home movie on DVD with movie_ts content and .vob

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion and Mavericks even though they have it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Import a movie studio clip into iMovie

I would like to use a movie clip they show before a movie begins. Like the globe from Universal, or the road from Jerry Buckenheimer Films, or of course the lion from Metro Goldwyn, etc..
Is there a way to do this? I'm using iMovie 4.

    Hi pontius,
    welcome to this forum
respect local laws, you're in a copyright minefiled... ;-); but in some areas of this planet, it is allowed for private usage (don't publish your movies on the web...):
step a) you need a commercial dvd with that opening...
    b) get rid of copyprotection; a handy tool is MacTheRipper, please search on your own...
    c)
get for 20$ the Apple mpeg2 plugin
and for free the tool Streamclip

  • Import Motion 5 movie into iMovie 11 with transparent background

I'm trying to import a movie from Motion 5 into iMovie 11 with a transparent background.  iMovie goes through the expected dialog boxes but the actual movie doesn't appear in the events window.  I know this is possible to do as I've been able to import the indymogul transporter effect movie (http://www.indymogul.com/transport) and use in iMovie 11 without too many problems.
The movie is "PAL DV" with a transparent background and I've tried all the combinations of "alpha, color, alpha + color, etc.".
Has anyone been able to do this?
    many thanks,

Hi I am looking for clarification before buying the motion software.
@dale , Is it possible to create animated graphics and text with a transparent background, that can then be overlayed ontop of my Imovie projects using the Picture in Picture option?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
