Movie not on Apple TV
I was wondering I was looking at buying a movie, when I looked on iTunes (on my iPhone and computer) it showed the move and I could buy it. When I looked to purchase it on ATV (Apple TV) I couldn’t find the movie. The reason I would like to buy it on my ATV is so that I can watch it from the cloud if I ever don't have my computer with iTunes with me. Anyone know why? I looked multiple times and even triple checked myself. The movie is "Just go with it" so you can reference this question.

You can only rent movies on ATV2, not purchase. There is no accessible storage, only a small flash for caching streamed content.

Sorry about the crazy title, I don't know how to say this succinctly.
I have just gotten a new apple tv and have synced several movies to it, but still have my entire library on my mac pro streaming to it. There are a couple of movies that show up on itunes under the appletv device, they also show up on my iphone remote AND can be played on the apple tv by the apple remote on my iphone. however, it does not show up in the movies list on my apple tv. I have had a couple of older ripped movies not show up and reencoding them did the trick with the apple tv preset on handbrake, but the tricky one is Wall-E which is the digital copy from the blu-ray. meaning, this one is downloaded from itunes, and is totally legit. It plays on my appletv, but only from my remote on my iphone, I cannot see it or play it from the apple tv directly.
btw, I now see the reencoded movies on apple tv, but I was still able to play them from the remote, before encode...
I have tried syncing it, then unsyncing it then syncing again, no luck. even not syncing it, it doesn't show up....I think I know what happened, I am not at home to double check, but can someone confirm this? in 2.3 apple added the ability to group movies by labeling them in the Show field of the video tab of get info. My guess is, and I can confirm when I go home, that the missing movies are in a "folder" called animated, that I over looked when scrolling down looking for a specific title. This is actually a good thing, but I didn't label the show field specifically, though it certainly is labeled on those tracks that I am missing, at least the couple I checked, and the ones that I do see, nothing is in that field. (thanks to back to my mac, now just allow screensharing on my apple tv... :))
This is a great feature, just don't like it being entered without my knowledge...
I will confirm upon getting home, but I bet if you have a large library and things go missing, make sure you have checked for folders. I know in my case, I added a genre to these movies by command selecting them and selecting get info, then changed the genre only. Either by bug or design, the Show field was also populated automatically. (both said animated) those that I entered the genre by itslef or in the library without get info, did not seem to populate the show field... -
ITunes movies not showing up on Apple TV
I'm having some trouble with my movies not showing up on Apple TV.
The movies I am missing are not purchased from iTunes but I have converted them using Handbrake. I've double checked the format and they seem to be what's required from what I've read in other threads.
I've also made sure they are in the "movies" category and not "home movies."
I'm not the most computer savy person... most of what I know is just from reading threads. Can someone help?

The stuff it is choosing to call "home movie" is 100% legit movies, but not ones I bought through the itunes store. So I load a movie and then it mysteriously does not show up in my Apple TV because it has defaulted to "home movie".
What I still fail to understand is what the heck is the purpose of this apart from annoying users who's stuff now does not appear on ATV without explanation or warning. So glad to have this forum to help me, but why should I have to do this to figure out how to overcome a stupid thing that Itunes is doing to my movie (it is a movie!)?
As I say though, what possible benefit is it for a users media to be labelled in this way and anyway, why does calling it a home movie make it unreadable in ATV? -
Why can't I purchase movies from my Apple TV? When searching not all available movies even show up!
I've had my apple tv for a while now, but have never actually purchased anything from the itunes store directly from the device. A friend recommended "Sleepless in Seattle" to me, and since it's not in Netflix or On Demand, I decided to buy it from itunes.
In doing a search in the Movies section of my Apple TV and typing in "Sleepl", I got no results. Bummed, I went onto Amazon to see how much the DVD would cost. On a whim, I opened itunes on my computer and did a search for the movie. To my shock, it is available for purchase on itunes for $9.99!
Once I found this out, I went back to my Apple TV and searched again. The movie still didn't appear to exist. I noticed then that every movie on the apple tv only gave me the option of renting, not buying. I was going to purchase from my computer, but then thought better of it because I wasn't sure it would be made available for me to watch on the apple tv.
Is there something wrong with my system? Why can't I buy movies from the device? I can buy tv shows, so it just seems weird to me that this is limited to the movies!Ha, ha, you are such a tool!
That profile was written in 2007 and never updated. Unlike you, I don't live on this forum. I have one 5 year old Dell gathering dust, waiting for the trash that has some kids software on it my kids never use.
Currently I own a 27 inch iMac, and a 21 inch iMac used by my wife. I just sold my MacBook Air, which replaced my MacBook Pro of two years ago. I have an AppleTV v2, and unfortunately gave my AppleTV v1 to a friend before I realized they stripped out the movie purchase feature. We also own an iPad, two iPhones, and 4 iPods, two of which are used as digital music storage for our cars.
So yes, all of my factual posts concerning Apple's shocking decision to try to hide the fact they removed significant functionality from AppleTV when they revved it, are just driven by the fact that 4 years ago I used almost no apple products. Apparently I harbor a twisted desire to hurt the company that provides me almost all of my technology of choice today, despite being an early software developer for the Mac, helping start two Macinotosh software companies in the 1980s and 1990s, and working at Apple for 2 years in the early 90s.
The truth is, Apple's products weren't so good 15 years ago so I gradually switched to Windows for professional reasons. About 4 years go I bought an iPhone, and started to wake up to the fact that Apple had done a tremendous job moving the Mac platform to the intel architecture, and was very happy to replace my crappy dells with Apple products.
But that doesn't mean I wear blinders when their product teams and marketing department makes mistakes, or does something deceptive. -
I recently purchased a movie via my Apple TV (in Canada) however I can't seem to get it shared/uploaded to my Apple Computer (itunes/movies/library). I can see the movies from my computer on Apple TV but I can not seem to get the movies from Apple TV shared/uploaded to my computer. Can someone please help me out on this? Thank you

Movies rented on Apple TV, not synching back to iTunes?
I thought I understood that movies you rent from the Apple TV 2.0 would synch back to iTunes and be available to watch on the Macintosh or from there could be synched to a current iPod for viewing. (For 24 hours once the movie is started on any device, or for 30 days which ever comes first.)
I took the Apple provided update to Apple TV (40GB) so now I am on version 2.0. I took the iTunes update to 7.6. My Apple TV seems to sync just fine with my iTunes library, i.e. otherwise couldn't be happier with the product.
I launched iTunes on my Mac; my Apple TV appeared as a device and then went back to my TV and rented a movie directly from Apple TV interface and watched it immediately. That process went just as Apple described it should, i.e. very smooth. However, immediately after watching the movie, I checked iTunes for rented movies (devices: Apple TV, Movies tab, and didn't see it. In the Rented movie section of the screen it said, "There are no rented movies in your iTunes library that can be transferred to this Apple TV." This is correct, but I just thought somewhere I would see the movie I had rented from the Apple TV within my iTunes. I tried proactively hitting the synch button; nothing. Went to the Movies library; nothing.
Perhaps I misunderstood the process as described by Apple (Steve Jobs 2008 MacWorld keynote) and the process really doesn't work in the ATV to iTunes direction. But I'm hoping there is something simple I missed in my settings in either iTunes or Apple TV to enable this to work.

If you download a rented movie on your computer, you can transfer it to your Apple TV, iPod, or iPhone. Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time. *If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.* -
I have purchesed a few movies on my apple TV account eg. Superman. Unfortunelty I cannot get these items to download to my computer so I can upload them to my iPad or iPhone. Movies that I have brought my computer however are automatically download and are available to watch on apple TV. I am using the same apple account for all of my apple devices and I have clicked on downloads on my computer and yet the purchesed movies on apple TV do not appear.
I have checked in the iTunes store on my computer for the same movies I have purchased on the apple TV, but the option to download isn't there, only the option to buy. What do I do?Got it!

When you say tit only sees your music folder, are you saying it only sees your music folder or does it see other empty folders. -
I use Apple Mail and dislike Outlook. If I create a note in Apple Mail, move it to my desktop for easy access and then open the note, it opens in Outlook. How do I stop Outlook from opening? Do I need to uninstall Outlook? Will it disrupt other software?
Open Apple Mail, and open Preferences (under Mail in the Menu Bar). On the General tab, check the "Default Email Reader" and set it to Mail (6.6).

I am getting a lot of static when using Brookstone wireless headphones and watching movies on the Apple TV. I know it is not headphones, because they work fine when I switch it to cable TV, then the sound is clear with no static. Any suggestions? Which wireless headphones work best with the apple TV?
Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem? -

Movie disappeared in Apple TV, general/downloads tab does not exist
Hi, I've just rented a movie using my Apple TV. The movie started running and after 5 minutes of watching, suddenly it stopped and disappeared. When I wanted to rent it again, I got the error that "the movie has already been rented so I need to go to setting/download... a tab which simply does not exist.
Anyway, I've tried general/itunesstore/check for rentals and it doesn't go anywhere as well.
As a result,
i cannot watch the movie because it just disappeared
i cannot rent it again because apple tv won't let me
apple tv will charge me and just because i don't think it's fair, i'll run after 2,99 for a couple of days to convince a call center operator.
isn't it just bad? apple's doing its worst lately. I've just had my skype gone blind in MacBook Air because they changed the software so that skype can't see the camera. (it's fixed now.)
i really want some people to feel themselves bad about their work down in cupertino.

Your problems are not unique: many people who use this forum have experienced the same thing you two have.
Here is a solution - first proposed by Corza from Australia - that worked for me:
In Apple TV, cursor over to Settings and check -
Settings > iTunes Store > Location
Settings > General > Time Zone
Settings > General > Region Format.
It was the last one that worked for me. The wrong country was selected under Region Format; as soon as I made the correction, everything returned to normal with my rentals.
I should add that another series of steps has worked for others.
Sign out of, then back into, iTunes. You will have to re-enter your Apple ID and password.
Restart Apple TV either from within the device itself, or by unplugging and waiting for 30 - 60 seconds, then plugging in again.

I have 46 movies downloaded from apple on my windows 7 PC I can only see 32 of them on my apple tv, I keep trying to share on my computer but they will not connect, any ideas? Sometimes I can connect though computer and get all my movies but usually I can not connect though the network.
