Movie playback in Itunes

Hi all,
I have the latest version of Itunes and Quicktime on my Windows Vista Premium Computer running an Intel Core 2 duo 2.66 GHZ chip, 4 GB of ram, a Geforce 8800 GTS video card and a Creative X-Fi Fatality Xtreme Gamer sound card connected to Logitech 5.1 surround speakers. All have the latest drivers available.
I've set up Quicktime for 5.1 surround at 24-bit, 96 KHZ which is what is supported by my sound card. Itunes works fine when I play music files both purchased from the Itunes Store and elsewhere in that I have 5.1 surround sound.
The problem is when I play a movie file in Itunes I only have stereo sound not surround, even funnier when I open the same file directly in Quicktime I have the picture without any sound whatsoever, only when I switch Quicktime to stereo sound do I have sound.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so know what the solution to the sound issue is, or can point me in the right direction. My limited memory is that this was not a problem when I was running Itunes and Quicktime in Windows XP SP2. Thanks in advance.

Ok weirdest thing. I have since solved my problem by switching the audio setting in Quicktime from 5.1 speakers to stereo. Now when I play movies in quicktime or itunes I have 5.1 surround sound and I continue to have 5.1 surround sound with music files in itunes.
Doesn't makes sense to me since you'd figure if you set your speaker setup in quicktime to stereo you would only have stereo sound but I have surround. So if anyone else has this issue try that and see what happens. Go figure.

Recently updated iTunes to 11.1.1.11 and now my Disney movies won't play - the audio keeps dropping out. Any help?

Do you have a KVM switch to share your monitor between your Mac and your PC? I was getting this problem when I got one of these so my new Mac could share my monitor etc with my old one but found a way round it. In System Preferences -> Displays, tick the 'Show displays in menu bar' box. Then click on 'Detect displays' from the drop down menu. The screen will go blue for a moment and the computer will recognise the monitor for what it is.

What Happened to .mov playback in iTunes

I upgraded to 7.6.2 and now none of the .mov files I have will play in itunes. They used to work just fine, now I get a blank screen, or I hear the audio but there is no video. Is there any way to fix this problem. It worked in older versions of iTunes, no reason why these files should stop working now.

ITunes movie playback, audio and video not in sync after upgrade to Mountain Lion

After upgrading to Mountain Lion I have problems with iTunes movie playback, and the audio/video at times stalls/delays, or skips a few seconds, or even gets out of sync. I have 2011 iMac 27" with 16G RAM and am running the latest iTunes and Mac OS X software, and shutting down extra programs doesn't help. Please let me know of any solution.

I also have this problem, and some videos will no longer play in iTunes.
I get a message that this video is not compatible with this version of iTunes. I have to open the video in Quicktime to watch it.
Unacceptable! This hardware and software is too expensive to have these performance issues.

Jerky playback of movie trailers within iTunes

When I try to view movie trailers within iTunes itself, the playback is jerky. It pauses and stops before resuming.
This is repeatable on two computers (Mac Pro and a Mac Mini), both running the latest version of iTunes and OS X Snow Leopard. I have a DSL connection
Yet, if I use a web browser (Safari) to go to trailers.apple.com/trailers/ , the playback is fine. Which makes me think that there is some setting within iTunes. But I cannot find any setting to change.
Any ideas?
As soon as I post this message, I'm going to boot up in OS X Lion and see the results.

When I boot into OS X Lion, the playback is fine. I reboot into OS X Snow Leopard, no change (that is, the jerky playback continues).

ITunes 7 movie playback too bright!

So I bought some movies from the iTunes store for the first time ever and double clicked them in iTunes. They started playing, but I noticed that the brightness of the videos is much higher than when I play them in Quicktime. For example, when playing a video in iTunes the blacks are almost gray, while playing it Quicktime the blacks were very dark as they should be. Why is the video playback in iTunes of lesser quality than in Quicktime? I'd like to play my movies directly in iTunes, but I also want decent playback, so now I have to revert to Quicktime all the time which isn't very convenient.
Any explanation or solution would be appreciated, thanks!

I actually have oppisite problem. The screen is too dark. I am sending the output to the HDMI input on a Toshiba LCD screen. Adjusting the TV brightness does not help. Calibrating the display does not work either. As soon as the movie starts it seem to revert to a default setting.
Any ideas?

Movie playback problem for PC iTunes

Hello,
I recently began having an issue with playing movies in iTunes. For some reason, I am no longer able to play music videos / movies in my iTunes.
When I click to play the movie, the screen is completely back and the timer / play length, is already at the end of the movie. However the movie does start at the correct spot, as I am able to very briefly hear the audio. Additionally, if I were to scroll through the movie I could see the visual, however if I click to a certain area I will just see a frozen frame and the movie will fail to play.
I followed all the trouble shooting steps listed by apple and other steps like making sure all the software is up-to-date, etc.
Anyone have any similar issues or advice to tackle this problem?
Any help at all would be appreciated.

I have similar problem on both my Windows 7 Laptop and XP desktop. Movies will not start in my case, but if i use Windows media player they work fine. Both running the latest 10.x. version

Choppy mp4 playback in iTunes

Until tonight, I've never had issues with video playback in iTunes. I have a library of mp4 video files that I've played successfully in the past with little or no video quality issues.
All of a sudden, none of my videos will play correctly in iTunes. The video is incredibly choppy, with a new frame or two playing every 30 seconds while the audio plays relatively normally. If I open the same file in another player (VLC or WMP), the file will play correctly with no choppiness. In fact, I can play the video file in both players at the same time with zero quality loss, so there's no lack of computer power that would cause this in iTunes. To the best of my knowledge, nothing changed on my system to prompt this - I was literally in the middle of watching a video when it happened.
After experiencing this issue, I upgraded iTunes, Windows, and my video card drivers to the latest versions/drivers (rebooting several times in the process), but this did not help. Next, I followed all of the instructions in the relevant support document (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718), also to no avail.
For the heck of it, I rented an HD movie from the iTunes store and had the exact same problem. I originally thought that this might be an issue with my media, but it is clearly not.
I often stream video from my PC to my AppleTV, and this is also experiencing the exact same choppy video (as you would expect).
I have no clue what else to try. I would prefer to watch the videos in another player, but this is sadly not an option if I wish to continue using my AppleTV. Has anyone else experienced this (or a similar) problem? I'm at my wits' end, and very unhappy that I spent so much time transferring my video library into iTunes. Nothing substantial changed on my computer that should have caused this, especially not in the middle of watching a movie. Any help or further ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Movies playing in iTunes will not show closed captions

I have purchased several movies from the iTunes store. They all have Closed Captioning listed in the store description. I need Closed Captioning because I have hearing loss and even with my hearing aids, I cannot hear all the dialogue in movies.
In my iTunes app, I opened Preferences-->Playback and checked the box for "Show closed captioning when available." Then I play the movie in iTunes. No captions. I click on the Controls menu for Audio & Subtitles. It's grayed out.
I go to the .m4v file in Finder and open the movie with Quicktime to see whether I can get captions that way. No captions. I check the View menu for Show Closed Captioning. It's grayed out.
At this point I'm thinking these movies do not really HAVE captions, despite what the store description said. However, this proves to be wrong because I turn on my TV and start up my Apple TV 3. I select "Movies" and then "Purchased" and find these movies. When I play these movies via the Apple TV, they all show up on the TV screen with the captions working perfectly.
So, what gives? I've spent hours searching the internet for a solution, but all I can find is that the selection I've made in iTunes preferences *should* make the captions show up in iTunes. I'm stumped. I want to play the movies on my computer in iTunes (or in Quicktime) so that I don't have to be at my house in front of my TV in order the enjoy them. Is there any way I can make these movies play in iTunes with the captions showing? Can anyone make any suggestions? I'd be very grateful if someone could help me achieve this goal.

I have same problem with my son's iPod Touch running iOS 5.1.1. I set "explicit" to off, but then many songs we purchased on iTunes that are labeled as "clean" do not show up on his iPod Touch. If I set "explicit" to on, they do show up.

after perusing other subjects with playback issues:
this is the fix:
-Launch Control Panel - Double click Quicktime, If you do not see quicktime, look on the top left side of control panel and switch to classic view. This will then allow you to see Quicktime.
-Now click the advanced tab and click on Safe Mode GDI Only, Apply, then ok.

Can't play HD movies purchased from iTunes on Windows 7 without Internet connection

Purchased (not rented) Wreck-It-Ralph from iTunes and downloaded it to my local drive. I confirmed that the file is, in fact, in a local directory. However, when I pull up the move's details iTunes it states that the file is in iCloud. (Library > Movies > R-click movie icon > Get info > Summary tab > "Where iCloud".) Every time I try to play the movie, either by playing it from iTunes or by going to the file itself and opening it via iTunes, it won't play unless I'm connected to the Internet. And even then, there's still a long pause before playback actually begins. It almost looks like it's trying to buffer it.
If the movie file is taking up 3gigs of space on my computer (that's authorized to play content from iTunes), I expect to be able to take this video on the road.

Movie playback issues

My movies are having playback issues again. Default settings are 44.1kHz 16bps 720p HD.
Operating System: Windows 8
Itunes Version 12.1.0
The issue is the sound goes in the beginning of each film. I have a computer which is two years old and yet there seems to be a recurring problem with movie playback.

I think it depends on which version of iTunes you are using. I had the same problem with digital copy movies when I loaded the 64bit version of iTunes 8.1, iTunes64setup.exe, on a Vista machine. Once I deleted that version and loaded the 32bit version of iTunes 8.1, iTunessetup.exe, I was able to view the movie in iTunes AND download it to my iTouch.

As jules says, your rate (currently at least) may be slow.
If it used to be good I wonder is your ISP is slowing ('throttling') your speed after you've used so many GB of a quota each day or month - check what they think you should be getting as a download speed.
While Apple's servers do occasionally play up, it's generally the ISP being slow not Apple.
If you're using Google's DNS servers that has caused issues for some.
Recommended speeds for near instant playback:
SD         2.5Mbps
720p      6 Mbps
1080p    8 Mbps
Is your speed test from somewhere like speedtest.net?
It might be helpful to post Mbps to ensure we/you are not confusing speeds by using different units to those measured.

Playback of iTunes Contents Stored in iMac mid-2010 (upgraded to Mountain Lion) using Apple TV

I am not 100% certain that upgrading to ML is giving me issues with Apple TV playback (not mirroring) but I AM having trouble with playback of music and movie stored in iTunes/iMac mid-2010.
I have an iMac mid-2010, 3rd generation Apple TV, cable broadband connection, and linksys wireless router.
Ever since I upgraded my iMac from snow leopard to ML (and yes I followed all directions and updated my apple TV as well to the latest software version), Apple TV takes as long a 5 to 10 minutes to play a song in my iTunes/iMac.
I thought it was the broadband or wi-fi connection so I tried netflix streaming using apple TV and it was fine.
Playback of movies stored in iTune/iac are also affected and it takes a long time to load as well.
In addition, once the content is playing, there's lagging/buffering and the playback stalls.
What's going on? Is it the speed of the wi-fi or broadband as suggested by Apple troubleshooting tip and this forum? The only thing that has changed from the time that playback of itunes contents using apple TV was working vs. not is the upgrade to ML.
Anyone else experiencing this problem? Recommendations?

So by switching your router to one that was WiFi "N" allowed you to obtain higher speed and allowed you stream from your computer to your apple TV/TV without any issues
My Current Router is an older Wireless G Router but I have no issues at all with this router it works with all my devices at home and I havent had any problems what so ever. However my room is the only room in the house in which I stream wirelessly to my TV most other devices are just tablets and other laptops that are connected to the network.
Also I was wondering if this is more of a networking issue rather than a graphics card or OS issue? Im not even sure where this falls in place.
