Movie playback is way too dark

hey guys i have had this problem for a while but am only getting into it now i am lookin to try and figure out whats wrong. well as the title states whenever i play a movie through my I tunes for some reason it always plays back super dark and i don't have any idea how to fix it does anyone know what might be wrong

Can you be more specific about what App you are using? An example of a video?
How fast is your ISP Internet connection?
What make/model router are you using?
From what you describe it appears that there is a bottleneck in getting video data to your iPad. Diagnosing this can be tough because the problem could lie at the server, on the Internet path to the server, on your local network router or in your iPad itself.
Note that videos do not have to completely load before playing. Usually they will start when a sufficient buffeting amount of the video has loaded. The important thing is that the rate of loading exceeds the rate of play.

  • My movies which were bought from iTunes play way too dark in iTunes.

My movies play way too dark in iTunes.  This is only the case when I connect my Mac Mini to my TV through HDMI.  What's strange is that when the subtitles in the movies come up the picture goes to the correct brightness.  Normally, however it is different to see most of the scene when it is a night shot or a dark scene.  The brightness on the TV does not seem to affect it, I believe this is a software issue.  Are there any controls for picture quality that I am missing?

    You device has limited capacity.
If you have toooooooo many movies, that occupy toooooo much space, you will not be able to add any movies oor music without deleting something else.

  • Canon 6D images way too dark in TV mode

When taking lacrosse and football photos, I prefer to set Canon 6D to TV mode using 1/500 or 1/640 with appropriate ISO for time of day or night. In the Spring in late afternoon / early evening games.  After having no problems for say first 100 photos, the camera in TV mode starts setting aperture too high (say 9, when just before was 4.5 in identical light), thereby creating photos that are way too dark. I shoot with sun behind me, so the natural light is pretty consistent, while the aperture selected automatically in TV mode jumps around wildly.
To avoid missing too many shots when this occurs, I move to Manual mode, keep speed at 1/500 or 1/640, and set aperture to correct number. I'd prefer camera do the work while I zoom in and out. and as the sun begins to set.
I never had this problem with other Canon DSLR's. Also, the camera behaves once it's totally dark and I'm depending on stadium lights.
Am using Canon 6D with Canon 70-200 mm EF IS II USM.
    Suggestions?

My guess if you've dialed down exposure compensation as well... and it's easy to do accidentally.
In Tv mode, the front dial (by the shutter button) controls your shutter speed, but the rear dial controls "exposure compensation".   The rear dial will only be active to do this when the camera meters the exposure... e.g. half-press the shutter button and then turn the rear dial to adjust exposure compensation.   The rear dial also controls exposure compensation in P and Av modes as well.
You can see if you've done this by looking at the meter either on the top LCD or through the viewfinder.  In Tv or Av mode, the arrow normally points to the center mark if exposure compensation has not been adjusted.  (this is the scale that shows -3..2..1..|..1..2..+3 )
You can also adjust exposure compensation via the rear LCD by pressing the [Q] button and navigating to the -3..2..1..0..1..2..+3 scale and then pressing the 'Set' button and it'll let you change the compensation.
The center position on the scale means you want to use the exposure recommended by the meter.  But you would want to use exposure compensation in situations where you realize the meter is unlikely to be accurate.  Camera's use a light meter that measures reflected light coming off the subject.  A hand-held (aka "incident" light meter) measures light falling on the subject (you actually walk up to the subject, hold the meter in front of them/it and take the reading while standing in the subject light).  An incident meter is extremely accurate becuase it's measuring the light itself... not a reflecttion of the light.  A reflected meter is subject to the fact that some subjects will reflect more light back to the camera than others.  E.g. a "white" subject reflects significantly more light than a "black" subject.)  Hence cameras tend to attempt to overexpose when shooting scenes dominated by dark or black objects and they tend to underexpose when shooting scenes dominated by mostly white or light objects.  The compensation control allows you to tell the computer that want it to shoot for an exposure darker or brighter than what the meter believes is needed.

  • Fusion HDR Pro  32bit way too dark

    Hi,
I often use Fusion HDR Pro in 32bit mode with final ajustements in ACR to control high contrast situations.
I now have un issue in PS CC 2014 with a fusion image (in ACR) which is way too dark and contrasty.
The same treatment in PS CC (not 2014) with the same images works fine.
Any idea what could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Jo

After some researches, I deleted the Photoshop folder with all the presets an restarted PS, Fusion HDR works fine again.

  • Safari 4 UI is way too dark, can't read bookmarks bar :(

    Hi guys,
I have an issue with Safari UI. It's just way, way too dark for me. Bookmarks bar is especially hard for me to read. Why is Apple using a dark gray background and black text? It's incredibly hard to read. I don't have vision issues (I have 20/20 vision) and yet I find it straining to even look at the bar for long periods of time. And why don't they allow "favicons" to show up on the bookmarks bar? I think allowing favicons to show would improve usability too.
    What can I do?

Unfortunately, you'll just have to live with it; Apple has made their design decisions for the UI so they are consistent across all (or most) of their applications. If you have a PowerPC Mac, you may want to try Unify to lighten the UI of Safari and other applications. It may not work with Safari 4, and whatever you do, make a complete bootable backup of your hard drive before you install it, and Repair Disk Permissions after that, then restart Safari to see if it works.
Favicons are not cached due to the fact that they occupy a lot of space, and that will slow down Safari, so there is no provision for allowing that at the present time.

  • The Godfather DVD is way too dark

I've tried changing monitor and calibrations settings but nothing helps much. It's just way too dark, I can barely make out faces and objects, especially during night scenes.
    Any suggestions?
I have the 2001 DVD Collection.

Have you also adjusted the settings in DVD Player? Go to Window/Video Color for the Brightness, Contrast, Color, and Tint controls.
If your normal desktop looks fine, you should not have to change any monitor settings.

  • Movie in DVD is too dark. I need some advices on my steps, please.

in PPro 2.0 i've create a movie with duration of 1h20 minutes. After i have finished i export->Movie using Microsoft DV AVI codec. I obtained a AVI file of 15Gb.
In Encore 2.0, i imported this file and used as my timeline. I also wanted a cool motion background for my menus, with dynamic link i create a composition of 4m:30s with a motion background, is 4minutes and 30 seconds length because i wanted to match the MP3 i choosed to the menu.
back to encore 2.0, i just hit the button to create the DVD. Everything looks as i expected, except the fact that the movie is a little bit dark. i assume i lost quality with the compression? i compared some scenes from the 15GB file(from PPro) and the dvd movie(from encore) and there's the diference. Encore put the movie a little bit darker.
also another facts, i would like some advices. in AE7 when i was creating the motion background before i used Dynamic link with encore i tried a diferent approach, i try to render it to AVI file so i could import in encore. i was soo surprised that the avi file i got was 8Gb(yeah! eight gigabytes) for a 4m37s motion.. i render with default settings.
question: what approuch you guys use? you use dynamic link and let encore handle everything? or you render to a AVI file using AF7 with settings other than default ones, if so, what settings/codecs?
    thanks in advance.

    Maybe, but probably not.
I'm with Mr. Simon, I think this is a color correction / grading issue, and not an Encore issue. You can't look at a video on a PC monitor and expect it to resemble in any way what you'll see off the computer -- very few PC monitors can show you the Rec.709 color space that HDTVs, DVDs, and BDs use. This is what production monitors are for -- letting you see the "truth" of the signal.
Without a production monitor in your workflow, you'll have to itterate. That is, make a DVD, take it to a DVD player / TV and watch it. If it's too dark, come back to the PC, correct it, make another DVD.... rinse and repeat until done.

  • Photos suddenly way too dark?

    Okay, here's the info:
-Just updated to Mavericks (works fine)
    -Updated iPhoto
-When I launch iPhoto on my MacBook, all my photos look fine
-When I connect my external monitor, the photos look too dark.
-I've confirmed that the Color Profile for the monitor is properly calibrated--it's JUST iPhoto
-When I scroll between photos, they momentarily look exactly like they ought to look; but once they've fully loaded, they suddenly become extremely dark again
    Any ideas?

No--you evidently didn't understand what I said. As I indicated, EVERYTHING ELSE looks fine on the external monitor. On websites, in other photo apps, in Preview--everything looks exactly the same whether on my internal or external monitor.
It's ONLY in iPhoto that things look messed up. The photos, as they're loading, look correct; as soon as they've fully loaded up, they suddenly become so dark as to be difficult to see--everything else on the screen remains looking exactly the same. And if I drag the window from my external monitor to my internal monitor, the pictures suddenly look okay again.
But, if I view a photo in Preview, it looks the same on both monitors, even as I drag it between the two. So, again, it's ONLY iPhoto.
Incidentally, this is a new problem--as far as I can tell, it only started after installing Mavericks.

  • Prints way too dark

OS windows 7 64 bit    PS CS6      Printer Canon Pro 100     Eizo monitor  all profiled
When printing A5 & A4 sizes resulting print is perfect
When moving to A3 or A3+ there is a slight colour shift and prints are unacceptably dark
I'm setting PS to manage colours with the appropriate profiles and printer managing colour box is set to none
Contacted Canon who asked me to try printing with Image Garden( a generic program pumped out with all Canon printers)
Whilst slightly light colours were OK but you can only print to paper stock sizes With this result Canon say its an Adobe problem
If anyone has some ideas I would very much appreciate.

Doesn't sound quite as severe as your issue, but I once had an issue with dark prints/lost detail coming back from a professional lab.
My system is profiled and well set up.....however, for some reason, my ambient light monitor controller monitor had switched off and my monitor got/crept brighter than it should.....that was the reason, and might be a contributory factor in your case.

  • Photobook: Way too dark sRGB/Adobe RGB

I've just received my third photobook. We make one each year and the previous ones have been great. I already found out that it's advised to use only sRGB images. Since there are no warnings when importing with another profile or any profile-conversions, my 100+ euro book has some very dark pictures.
I'm not satisfied by the result. I'm no noob to colour (as a graphic designer) but is it so hard to check for a profile and convert it? It looks good on screen but the print looks bad.
    Anyone had this issue before?

    Contact Apple - http://www.apple.com/benl/support/photoservices/returns/
As to has anyone else seen this issue - yes - pretty much anyone who uses Adobe RGB has the issue of dark prints - if you want to avoid that then you have to avoid using Adobe RGB - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdobeRGB_colorspace - It is different than the sRGB color space - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGBcolorspace - and is not compatible with the Apple printing service
The sRGB color space is well specified and is designed to match typical home and office viewing conditions, rather than the darker environment typically used for commercial color matching.
Ergo - use the Adobe RGB that is designed for commercial color matching and things will be darker
expect it - it is what it is - and don't use it if that is not what you want. It is not an error or wrong - but it is different and if you choose to use it then you will get the predictable results.

  • Epson printer printing way too dark

    Hi
Since I installed Yosemite, my old Epson R265 inkjet photo printer will only, regardless of any amount of adjustment, output prints that are so dark and muddy it looks like I'm viewing the prints through a dirty old pair of sunglasses.
I've tried every kind of solution, reinstall the driver, remove then re-add the printer and changed all manner of print settings. I'm getting the same results through Photoshop CS5 and iPhoto.
The printer worked perfectly the day before I installed Yosemite and I'm using an image that printed out correctly before the install to test print.
I'm completely at a loss, I know from a week of trawling through articles online that there are some printing issues with Yosemite, but nothing similar to the problem I'm having.
Any advice you can give would be a massive help, I'm prepared to buy a new printer, but i get the feeling that the problem won't go away and I'll be wasting more money.
    cheers
    David

I am having the same problem about 50% of the time.

  • How do I lighten up my browser window so I can watch movies? They are too dark!

I've got my monitor set so it is at it's brightest, and I still can't watch my horror movies. I asked this question before, and then it disappeared, with no answers, so I am asking again.

  • 2626 screen way too dark

I am working in China and recently bought a Nokia 2626 here. The problem I have with it is that the screen is a dark brown color, and when then sun is quite bright here, then I cannot see what is on the screen at all, when the sun is out. :-(
Is it possible to remove the screen and replace it with a plastic I can see trough also during sunshine??
    Thanks
    Calle

Ok more info, as i forgot a little of it. The problem has existed for 9 days now, after taking battery out and restarting etc. I also deleted all extra apps I had added since I got the phone.  The light/white screen does go away..but its random but is normally white/light screen 95% of the time over the last 9 days. The phone has not been dropped or any water damage...no kind of damage what so ever. I think thats about it!

  • Embedded movie is too dark, too much saturation

    Hello,
the embedded movie - a slideshow - is too dark, too much saturation and contrast, means same for all images. Have tried as mov and mp4 / acrobat 9 pro.
    Thanks for some advices.

Acrobat doesn't do anything to your media when it's embedded into a PDF file, and it simply plays them back in Flash Player as would happen on any webpage. There are no brightness/contrast controls nor any changes made by the software. If the images are too dark that's a problem with the video file itself.

  • Images too dark on external display

    Hello,
I use Lightroom on my (Lenovo) notebook. Because of the small screen size, I tried using it with an external (Samsung) display. However, when I open Lightroom on the external display, all the images suddenly seem way too dark. It is the case that this display is generally too dark, because when I view the same picture in a photo viewer or a browser it is not too dark. See for example this screenshot. On the left hand you see an image (export from Lightroom) in my browser, on the right hand the same image in Lightroom. You can clearly see it is much darker. When I view both images on the screen of the notebook itself, there is no difference between them.
Actually, when I move the Lightroom window from the notebook display to the external display, you can clearly see Lightroom adjusting the images from light to dark.
Does anyone know what causes this, and how I can prevent Lightroom from showing the images too dark?
    Thanks!

I guess you misunderstood my problem. It's not only that images on the external display are way darker than on the notebook, but also that on the external display images in Lightroom are much darker than when I view the same image on the same display in a photo viewer or a browser. In the screenshot pictured above both the light and the dark version of the image are on the same external display.
However, in the meantime I found a solution. Changing the Windows Color System device profile to a non-WCS-profile did the trick: Photos appear as black, gray rectangles | Lightroom | Windows
Thanks anyway for trying to help.
