Movie Purchases Question

I am looking at purchasing an Apple TV. I like the idea of keeping my purchased movies on my Apple TV, rather than consuming HD space on my MBP. My single concern is whether I will be able to push those purchased movies from my Apple TV to my iPhone should I want to watch them when I travel?
Any help with this question is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

not directly no.
you would need to sync it to an itunes library first, and then push it on to the iphone from itunes.

  • ITunes Movie Purchase Questions.

Once you have purchased and downloaded a movie from the iTunes store to your iMac is it possible to drag the film file on to a USB stick?  Then plug the USB stick in to the TV and watch the movie?

You can copy the movie file anywhere you wish, but it can only be played on an Apple device or in Apple's software. If you want to view the movie on your TV, you'll either have to connect your computer or an iOS device to the TV or get an Apple TV.

  • A recent movie purchased on iTunes and downloaded to my computer does not show up on apple tv.

I routinely buy movies on iTunes and they usually show up on apple tv automatically but the most recent purchase is not there. Im not sure why.

    Hi there mctedesco,
You may want to make sure that the movie in question was purchesedwith the same Apple ID that is being used on the Apple TV. Take a look at the article below for more information.
    Download past purchases
    Before you begin
Sign in with the Apple ID that you used for the original purchase. Use these steps to see which Apple ID you used to download an item.
See if the content is available for redownload. Previously purchased items might not be available if they're no longer on the iTunes Store. If you changed your Apple ID from one country to another, you can’t download items you purchased in a previous country.
If you're using Family Sharing, you can use these steps to download your family member's content.

  • Itunes movie purchases

i have a question about movies purchased in itunes. is there a limit to the number of devices those movies can be loaded on? i had heard rumor that movies can only be loaded onto 5 devices at a time. i have more than 5 ios devices and would like to be able to have some of those movies on all my devices. also, do those movies purchased in itunes have chapters and movie info included with them?

You only get one download of a movie.  You would have to sync it to other devices.
"You shall not be entitled to burn video iTunes Products "
") You shall be authorized to use iTunes Products on five iTunes-authorized devices at any time, except for Content Rentals (see below)."

  • HT3209 HD Discount for Movies Purchased in SD.

Is there any way to get a discount if buying the HD version of a movie purchased in SD because it was the only format offered at the time?
If not, what with every new release coming out in HD via Blu-Ray, it punishes people who are loyal to iTunes if they purchase the SD version on iTunes instead of purchasing the Blu-Ray, just because it isn't yet available. I understand the "if you buy a dvd, you don't get a discount on the Blu-Ray" argument, but this is different because the HD version is available at the time of release from other sources.

"If you buy an SD DVD from Wal-Mart and Best Buy is carrying the Blu-Ray version, will Wal-mart give you a discount on the Blu-Ray when they finally get it?  Of course not.
Itunes could ONLY offer this if the movie industry/distributors allowed it."
Again, I understand the argument, but this isn't like Walmart and Best Buy so much as Walmart and Walmart. I'm saying because I bought it from the same source, it makes sense to offer a discount if I upgrade to a better version from the same source.
Obviously the movie studios would have to be on board, but the music industry agreed when upgrading song quality, so I'm only hoping the same logic would apply to movies and television.
On an unrelated note, saying things like "of course not" makes you sound a bit arrogant. Just because someone has a question doesn't mean they should be talked down to. And for the record, Disney has offered a discount in the past on an upgrade to Blu-Rays, provided you have proof that you've purchased the DVD (i.e. the one found on the actual dvd cover). The studio doesn't care where you bought it so much as that you bought it, and offer a discount since they realize you've already paid for it once. It's not an idea without logic or precident, and shouldn't be treated like one. I appreciate the effort to help, but not the tone.

  • I've got a new IMAC, but i don't have all my music or movie purchase on it.  I just recently updated iTunes.  How do I get my purchases back?

Ive got a new iMac and now that i updated iTunes I do not have all my music and movie purchases.  How can I get it all back?.  I used to have it before update

It doesn't magically transfer itself, you have to do it.  Purchase may present themselves for re-downloading but things such as CD are only on the old machine or on the CD.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio availability by country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple recommends,  "... back up your iTunes library. " (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).
    Additional tip at https://discussions.apple.com/message/24176756#24176756
Select the iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes if you have the sidebar displayed, or with the button at the top right.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • How can I play an HD movie purchased from Itunes  on my TV using HDMI connection?

I would like to know how i can play movies purchased in Itunes on my TV using the HDMI cable?   When I try playing HD movies from Itunes I can't play them.  I get the following error:
"To play in HD, you must have a computer with a built in display or have it connected to a display that supports HDCP".
I used to be able to play them before but not anymore.  Not sure why.  Maybe it's due to the new update.  Is there a fix?
    Thanks,

Ok, best to contact itunes then so they can look into it

  • Every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad and the message I get is this: some of the items in the itunes library, including were not copied to the ipad because you are not authorized for them on this computer... help?

For a couple months now, every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad giving me the error: "some of the items in the iTunes library, including were not copied to the iPad because you are not authorized for them on this computer". I have read many forums about deleting, reinstalling, de-authorizing and authorizing my iMac through the iTunes store. Many suggestions don't work except to rename the movie to *.MP4 in Finder under the iTunes movie directory. I imagine this is a setting or a bug somewhere... any suggestions on how to bypass having to rename the files in Finder? My research into Google suggests this problem dates back to 2007 or so but it is now more prevalent than ever.
    Thanks.

You can't. The apps must be purchased separately.

  • How do you transfer movies purchased on iTunes to watch through USB on TV.

    Hi,
I was wanting to purchase new release movies from iTunes instead of buying them on DVD from retail store. I was wanting to transfer some of them to a USB so my daughters can watch them on their tv as well but for some reason the coding won't allow it. I don't want to do anything illegal just watching the movie I purchased on another tv. I don't have Apple TV and not wanting to purchase one at the moment either.
    Thank you for your help

iTunes movies are DRM protected and have to be played back with an Apple device.  I presume the same applies to any legal online movie purchase as this is something the media companies likely determine.  If they want to play it back on their TV and you do not have streaming capability then you'll have to go with a DVD player.

  • How do I get movies purchased on Apple TV to download to my iTunes library?

Using iTunes 10.7 on my iMac where my main iTunes library is located.  I have a couple of Apple TVs with the latest updates.  When I purchase a movie on Apple TV, what is the easiest way to get it to download to my iMac?  It seems that it is much easier to purchase movies on my iMac and then they show up in the library for that computer on my Apple TV - but you have to wait for the movie to complete the download before you can watch it - sometimes inconvenient.
So, following a purchase of a movie on my Apple TV what is the easiest way to download that purchased move to my iTunes library so I can also watch it on the computer or my iOS devices?
SOLVED:  Looked at post labeled "Movie purchases in iCloud" and received my answer.  Movie now downloading into my iTunes library.

Thanks - I understand this in principle - but still think it should be up to the user.
If my Apple TV glitches and I lose a bunch of tv shows, its not the end of the world.
If I have no room on my computer for a large powerpoint presentation for work because my hard drive is full of Simpson episodes, it is.
Not giving the user the option not to have gig upon gigs sent to his computer is very.... well, Gatesian.

How do i move a movie purchased with apple tv to my iPad

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.

  • How do I access my iCloud content? Specifically movies purchased in itunes.

How do I access my iCloud content? Specifically movies purchased in itunes. I have multiple Apple devices, one itunes account, one cloud...purchased upgraded storage. The iCloud page on Apple website states that movies purchased in itumes are automatically transferred to the cloud. I can't find the movies unless I sync my devices via a cord. I am interested in purchasing Apple TV but want to make sure I will be able to access movies purchased.

Movies are not stored in icloud.  They are on the cloud - yes, but what Apple means,  is that you can redownload the movies via the iTunes Store, where all movies are stored (the itunes cloud).

  • Why no support for past MOVIE purchases?

Why limit this new feature to only music, books, and app purchases?  I've bought movies on iTunes too, and now that upgrading to Snow leopard has more or less trashed my iMac and I need to go to a data recovery specialist to save what I hadn't backed up, this would be a welcome addition.
Why no option to download past movie purchases?

Probably because the movie industry has not allowed this.
Why not just do the basics and backup?
There was no option to redownload music before this week.
    Things are improving.
