Movie Rental doesn't transfer to iPod Video

Just downloaded my first rental movie off iTunes (ver 7.7.1 (11)) to give it a try. Tried to sync with iPod video (latest rev software) and it comes up in the sync menu as 'download' not as the movie title. It appears in iTunes under a Rental Movie folder with all the details. However, When I try to play it on my ipod it just comes up with a blank screen and seems to be only 400MB in size not the 1.3GB its supposed to be.
I have tried the following
- Resetting the ipod
- Rebooting my iMac
- Manually transferring the movie across to the iPod.
Can you suggest some fixes that might enable me to re-sync, re-index or fix the problem. Or tell me who to call to reverse the charge on the movie rental.

What sort of "iPod video: is it that you have? Your problem may lie with the model you have. Rental Movies will only play on the iPod Classic (not the 5th Generation iPod), the iPod Touch, the iPod Nano with video and the iPhone:

  • Some movie rentals i can transfer from ipad but most not! Whats the problem? They are all SD.

Some movie rentals i can transfer from ipad but most not! Whats the problem? They are all SD. Some are watched others not. It just seems to be a fluke sometimes that they show up in the rented movies when i sync. And bought movies I always have to manually transfer to my computer!

How did you rent them ? From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657 :
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • Expired movie rentals not deleted from my iPod Touch

I have rented 3 movies during the last month. Transferred from iTunes to my iPod Touch to watch on my TV. After 24 hours of watching these movies, they expired. However, they are still there in my iPod, inaccessible but still there. When I turn on my iPod I can see them in my list of rentals for about one second, then they disappear from view. Also, when my iPod is connected to my Mac, in iTunes, under Devices > iPod, there is an entry for "rented movies" and the three movies are there, but all grayed out so I cannot delete them. Even if I cannot delete them from my iPod, I think they are taking up space, because the space occupied by Videos is much more than what I really have. How do I delete these expired rented movies from my iPod? I know they are supposed to be deleted automatically after expired, but not in my case. However, previous movie rentals have been deleted normally, this just started happening last month.

I got a reply in another thread which solved the problem on my iPhone 3G. Here is the advice that worked for me:
Tbo6652 posted "Re: Rental movie taking memory on i phone when is expired" in "Rental movie taking memory on i phone when is expired" on Dec 24, 2008 1:10:04 PM.
click on the iphone icon in the left panel and go to summary, check manually manage movies and music, click the drop down arrow to the left of the iphone icon, click "Rented Movies"....delete the unwanted movies.

  • ITunes doesn't see my iPod video 30 gb! Please help me!

When i connect by usb 2.0 my iPod, the pc see the iPod as an external drive and It seems to be empty, while iTunes says that there isn't any iPod connected. The latest iPod software is installed. Opening the iPod while it isn't connected to the pc, there isn't any file but in the settings is written that almost 10 gb are full and 20 gb are free: this should be ok because before that these problems appeared that was the memory used. Of course I can't update the iPod or reset it to default because the iPod updater doesn't see any iPod connected to the pc while it is really connected... Well, windows sees my iPod while iTunes doesn't see it so i can't make any operation on the iPod and when it isn't connected to the pc i can't listen to the music... Please sombody help me!

  • My movie rental doesn't show available, how can I retrieve it?

I was watching a movie rental on my Apple TV and there was a power outage. When the electricity returned my rental was no longer showing available. When I tried going to "Check for Rentals" in the iTunes settings on my Apple TV, it never actually brings it back.
How do I get access to the movie? I'm probably not going to find out prior to the 24 hours expiring, so, how do I go about getting a refund?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

  • Can't Put Movie into my iTunes Libarary or iPod Video(5g)

I recently converted a video to mp4 using ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter. It's in the mp4 format and should be perfect to be put into iTunes. Well when I try sticking it in there it says that it can't be played on my iPod or something like that. How can I get it in there?

Okay... I did this last night. I ran the converting thing in iTunes. I woke up in the morning to find out it was 1/3 finished. I pressed the "x" and it jumped to three fourths then cancelled. Is there anyway to speed this up. Because I ran it from 10 to 7. 9 hours seems like a bit much.

  • HT204370 What can I do if the PLAY button for a movie rental doesn't play?

Help! What to do? Wanted to watch rented movie again within the 24 hour time and the play button doesnt play?!

You should be able to select Force Quit from the menu beneath the Apple icon in Finder
and choose to Quit iPhoto from there, without messing up the Mac OS X in the process.
    OS X - Support
Not sure if rebuilding the iPhoto library would help this issue. However if you had to
turn off the computer without the correct method (unplug, etc; instead of menu choice)
the system may have accrued damages and should be checked, maybe repaired by
use of the Disk Utility in the system. Or restart the computer in Safe Boot mode, then
run 'repair disk permissions' while it is running in that reduced mode; then restart after.

There likely are other means to rectify troublesome applications, including reinstall.
Be sure to backup your music, image, video, and other work on an external drive
or suitable device as a precaution against loss should there be a hard drive failure.

  • Data transfer via ipod video

Does iTunes or any other software need to be installed on a remote computer to do data transfer?
(Ie. transfering data from school/work where I wouldn't be allowed to install software)

No, all you need to do is go into itunes prefs -> ipod and set it to mount as an external device.
And i believe to acesses the external device in windows you have to go to start -> My computer... and you should see the ipod as an external device.

  • Transfer movie rentals to ipod

I downloaded a few movie rentals from itunes and the Apple website and all other information I found says to go to the ipod movies tab when the ipod is connected and then just click on the rental movie to transfer it. When I go to my ipod movies tab, the rentals aren't there. What can I do to transfer my movies to my ipod?

What kind of iPod do you have? I only ask because rental movies will only play on the iPod Classic (not the 5th Generation iPod), the iPod Touch, the iPod Nano with video and the iPhone. In addition for all of these you also need the latest firmware updates installed to enable them for rental playback.

I use PQ DVD. It is easy to use just open it up, insert your DVD, hit play on the interactive menu and press record. It will send the file to a pre-determind file and then just open iTunes and drag it accross. As simple as that.
